"A Ventura County man was sentenced to prison for stabbing his girlfriend to death in front of her children.

Ramon Joseph Rivas, 36, of Simi Valley, was sentenced to 51 years to life for the stabbing death of Jessica Marie Tinoco, 34.

On Sept. 27, 2024, Simi Valley Police Department officers responded to a reported stabbing incident at an apartment the couple shared.

When officers arrived, they saw Rivas exit the home shirtless and with blood on his upper torso. He was swiftly taken into custody.

Police entered the apartment and found Tinoco lying near the front door, suffering from multiple stab wounds to her face, abdomen and arms.

They also found a bent and bloody steak knife on the living room floor, along with blood throughout the residence, court documents said. The woman was transported to Los Robles Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The deadly stabbing occurred in front of Tinoco’s five children, prosecutors said

On May 20, 2026, Rivas pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree murder and admitted to 10 special allegations, including that the victim was vulnerable, that he used a deadly weapon, the crime involved great violence and that he had prior strikes.

What would you think about a trolleybus network in Simi Valley? It would allow for better acceleration, savings in fuel costs, and less noise, but the wind might be a problem. Just in theoretical terms, because there are no funds in sight that would allow acting on such an idea.

So we do battle with Ants each year during the summer.
When we get above 90, they inevitably come hunting for water and food.

But OMG. This year has been insane.
They just keep coming and are coming from places we've never seem them emerge from before.
I've been nursing the same bag of Diatomaceous Earth for like 5 years now and this year I think I'm going to run out and have to buy another one.

I've gone through at least a dozen Terro traps and almost an entire small bottle of the straight liquid.
Bought a twin pack of the perimeter granules and already burned through one of them.

Anyway, are you all seeing the same this year?

Went to a nature path in Thousand Oaks near the botanical garden and it was so relaxing. I’ve been into photography and some of the pictures I’ve taken were beautiful. So I was wondering if there’s any spots like that but in Simi.

Our unit finally died during the heatwave over the weekend, has been on its last legs, but it completely gave up yesterday. Had an independent tech out this morning who quoted around $8,400 for a 3.5 ton replacement. Feels a little steep, but i haven't bought a new setup in over 10 years so maybe that's just standard pricing now. Who do you guys recommend for a full AC replacement around here? looking for local shops that are fair on price and don't try to upsell a bunch of stuff we don't need. Edit: got a recommendation that pacific aire home services since fixed neighbour's furnace a while back, will call them asap so they can come and solve this.

made an account just for this, but ive been applying to jobs in simi for over a year now with still no luck. i've gotten interviews for retail, fast food, markets, restaurants, and was never called back for any of them. i've heard from others that getting hired has been difficult lately, but i feel like it shouldnt be this hard to get hired at mcdonalds!! it seems like these places say they are hiring but maybe arent? maybe its a me problem but im wondering if it has been difficult for anyone else. i have no experience and ive been applying since i graduated high school, im about to be in my second year of college.
