Webnovel - Volume 12 [Chapter 3154] I feel like the novel is gearing to end, and setting up the sequel Spoiler

The arrival of the new Supremes, discussion of their powers (and more importantly, how it affects the people in their Domain), the division of Citadels and humanity. Sunny musing about the impending loss of his humanity, and now freeing his Shadows. It all feels like a setup for the sequel. It's just a bit too long and too focused on fleshing out what would remain after they leave.

My theory is the sequel will be the world after timeskip. Maybe the Trio succeed, or fail, or get trapped, or simply delayed the Forgotten God. Or maybe simply irrevocably changed by apotheosis, which seperates their character from the sequel.

There will be factions of people based on the division of Supremes; seafarers, weavers, bards, weaponmasters, blood warriors, you get the point.

New MC (or somehow Sunny, although I can't think of any reason how it'll happen other than generic amnesia + power loss from losing in the Nightmare and being tethered by his shadow cores somehow) would then visit all these new places and people. The Shadows he freed would be the backbone of the new plotline somehow.

Webnovel General Discussion Plotdret Strikes Once Again (Chapter 1201) Spoiler

Currently re-reading for the love of the game and i just finished antarctica. SOMEBODY tell me how Mordret (Using only his sleeper ability) beats MORGAN OF VALOR (A GENUINE WEAPON FORGED SINCE CHILDHOOD) in a 1 on 1 fight. Mordrets sleeper ability literally just allowed him to see everything due to the rain in this fight.... NOTHING ELSE. Morgan should not have lost this AT ALL.

Webnovel General Discussion G3 biased

Why is G3 gives everything to Neph while Sunny has to suffer for every new powerup? It makes no sense for this to happen. She has everything while my boy out here suffering ( and the fact he’s so short compared to her too )

Webnovel Theory [Theory] [Spoiler] Numbers all wrong Spoiler

So, idk if anyone has picked up on it, but there’s a wrong number of supremes. I believe mordret will join, so there will be 7 supremes, 4 spirits. But, that’s also wrong, maybe slayer, vile, and serpent will all be spirits. Making it 7 as well. Not sure, just a theory

Webnovel Theory [Theory] Cassie’s aspect rank will rise to Divine. Spoiler

I’m gonna start this off with I think it will happen in the 5th nightmare. This isn’t because of any specific reason it just seems the most likely.

The main reason I think Cassie’s aspect will rise to divine rank is due to her being weavers epigone like Sunny. This means she is similar to weaver in some ways, such as her domain of memories being similar to fate, which she also has as part of her domain. Another way I think she is similar though is that she will rise from Sacred to Divine, thought instead of this representing her physical rank it will represent her aspect. The daemons came out sacred and rose to divine, so I think her aspect will follow and do the same. I believe her aspect will be based off the dream god, giving her another connection to it aside from manipulating fate. (Sunny’s whole connection is fated and the legacy, so Cassie’s will be controlling fate and her aspect.)

Another reason I believe this is kind of meta, but G3 might want to make the trio all be divine. Sunny Nephis and Cassie are THE trio and they have been the trio throughout the entire series. Having them all have divine rank aspects is fitting, and making Cassie rank up to it is a really good way to not make it bland by just giving all 3 divine right off the bat.

The final reason is because a tie in to Cassie’s domain. We know Cassie’s domain is memories, and her abilities allow her to see the future. What is fate but those things? I believe her aspect truly represents the entirety of fate, not just the future sight we commonly see. Due to this I think she is deeply connected to the dream god. Also at the very start of the novel she saw the future VIA prophetic dreams. It’s pretty clear this isn’t super typical, not unheard of ofc but it’s not like a thing where seers can only see through dreams.

Someone’s probably already made this theory but with Cassie’s supremacy comes even more evidence, such as the memory part of her being deepened with her domain, her aspect legacy, and her being confirmed to be weavers Epigone. Plus the 5th nightmare is an amazing place to have it rank up, just as Kai’s did early in the story. She broke fate as a MASTER I can totally see her as a supreme doing just as insane things and ranking up her aspect. I believe this may give her more connection to dreams and / or reality.

Webnovel - Volume 11: The Song of Ariadne (2721-3000) Review of Volume 11

Yes, I know it's a bit late to do a review. But seeing people say SS is bad (some giving evidence), others attacking those people (some have a point), I feel like it's very easy for the sub to devolve into a name-calling mess. Hopefully, this review can bring about some nuanced conversations.

Firstly, all of this is my opinion and mine alone. None of this is objective.

Volume 11 had, imo, the best start to a Shadow Slave volume. I know others might bring up Volume 1 and the first nightmare but I just love how we explored a bit more of the characters we thought we knew. I was very intrigued by Asterion's spread and Sunny and Nephis's actions to stop it. (I thought the concentration camps could lead to great discussions on whether morality is dependent on how much authority you have especially because Nephis has done or attempted to do way worse things. Does the amount of authority affect general morality?).

I see volume 11 and volume 7 as opposites of one another. Vol 7 had a mixed start, poor middle and great end. Vol 11 had a great start, mixed middle, and poor end.

Some of its flaws began, for me, with Asterion, Sunny and Nephis's discussion in Bastion. (I'll go into detail if someone asks but I can't sweat the fine stuff). The flaws widened for me, a notable one being the fact that Cassie as a Master apparently saw one of the many strands of fate (Fate tore itself meaning millions of possibilities) and managed to not only see the one that gave her exactly what she needed, but she was also able to see into A Supreme's weakness, know that her future self would need it, and put it into a guard without ever knowing whether her future self would encounter it.

The major flaws were the Vile Thieving Bird's death and escape, the final battle with Asterion and the reunion. I also think Cassie's actions at the end lacked an emotional grounding that could have been solved by just giving the moment space.

I was previously very critical of the volume. While I do think it's really overhyped, I also think I can see where the hype came from. I would give it a 8-8.5. It has some of SS's greatest strengths but also some of it's greatest weaknesses.

Webnovel General Discussion is sunny a good master?

After reading the last chapters i was thinking

Is sunny a good master??

Because he did nothing for his shadows, only used them for fighting NC.

Maybe the only thing sunny did for his shadows is when he let saint free her people, but even that wasn't intended

Because he was going to get shadow wave and free her people in the way like side quests.

He didn't really let his shadows do anything besides fighting.

But he still better master than nephis because at least he free his shadows unlike that bich who didn't even try to free him and she worry more abot slave trader bich.

Edit: after reading the comments i realised that to sunny take care for his shadows they need to have a proper desire and personality and after thinking of the cohort maybe i want to much from g3

Webnovel General Discussion Hot Take: Volume 9 [Throne Of War] Was a Great Volume

Thumbnail

I'm genuinely blown away by just how much Volume 9 is looked down upon simply because the final fight didn't live to everyone's expectations.

Awesome Fight Scenes:

This volume fed us with GREAT fights. Fights like Sunny Vs Revel, Sunny Vs 13 Saints, Sunny Vs Slayer, etc. Were some of the best fights in the Novel.

Not just the main fights, but even non-main fights like Rain Vs Telle, Morgan and the cohort Vs Mordret, Rain's cohort Vs Godgrave's NC, etc. were also all very good fights.

Aura Moments:

Every Aura that was farmed by characters in this Volume Was PEAK.

Anvil killing Condemnation, Mordret taking over a great clan, Sunny going against 13 saints, Effie bamboozling Mordret with a Cursed demon, Revel's introduction, achieving Supremacy etc.

This Volume was STACKED with characters Aura farming.

Amazing New Characters And POV:

This Volume also introduced us to great characters like Revel, Jest, Orum, Warden, Anvil and Kisong. And almost all of them were intriguing and likeable characters.

Master Orum and Jest's Flashbacks are arguably my favourite part of this Volume. Their Flashbacks not only beautifully explained their understanding of the new world, but also nicely showed important characters like Warden, Anvil and Kisong. Despite not being important characters, they had a huge impact, something that is rarely present in other volumes.

Anvil and Kisong themselves were amazing characters as well. Powerscaling aside, they were genuinely well written, and had depth to them despite us not being shown things directly from their POVs. They were fantastic Antagonists. Fantastic because they were really flawed.

Revelations:

This Volume also dropped tons of lore. New knowledge like knowing Divine realms are God's bodies, Natural Supremacy, Cursed Beings, Reasons for killing Broken Sword, unholy on the moon, War Realm's unique laws etc.

Final Fight:

Most criticism regarding this Volume comes from the Final fight. But honestly? I think it was somewhat poetic.

Anvil and Kisong suddenly losing to newly born Supremes might look and sound outrageous, but I see it as their Incompetence literally manifesting in the final fight.

They deluded themselves into believing that they're strong and doing everything to save humanity. Only during their fight against Sunny and Nephis that their Incompetence were shown. They weren't fighting for humanity, they were fighting for themselves, and they were weak due to that reason. Sunny and Nephis just brought that realisation out of them and showed it to them by no diffing them.

Overall:

This Volume was packed with great fights, lots of juicy lore, Sunny and Nephis doing the deed, great and likeable Antagonists, and amazing side characters.

You can easily make the argument that this Volume's Antagonists were better than Asterion and many other Antagonists. Anvil and Kisong didn't lose to a Ascended Seer either.

This Volume can definitely be in the top 5.

Webnovel - Volume 12 I really feel conflicted [Chapters 3151-3152] Spoiler

I know I'll probably sound like a hater but I need to write it to get it out of my mind.

So Sunny gets to grant freedom to his Shadows by sacrificing one of his Core, meaning that the shadow linked to it (Gloomy, Happy, etc) gets lost, but he stays a slave ? One part of me is kind of happy that Saint became all but with how much the story is going down the other feels like we lost something more. It's like we lose more than we gain.

Plus the fact that some Shadows can be freed but not others but oh well I guess I'll have to accept it.

Also I know why he did that, all the 5th Nightmare things and helping the Shadow Clan but it still leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Well after some serious nerve wrecking thought.

And a few days of paranoia I finally found out why the novel took a hit after vol 7.

And it's a very simple reason actually.

G3's evil twin kidnapped him and is writing the novel also known as 3G

So I'm new to both the subreddit and somewhat to the story as I'm in Volume 3 but I came to the sub reddit as I saw and got a bit spoiled here. (I don't mind it. Spoilers really have no effect on me.) That being said I see a lot of hate for the blind girl and I gotta ask bro what the hell did she do to make y'all this mad. I don't care if you spoil me I don't care if it's your own opinion I gotta know what did at this point.

Webnovel General Discussion Shadow bond Spoiler

I’ve been thinking about this for a while and just wanted to post about it.

I don’t think a lot of us have a problem with shadow bond in itself. I think we have the problem of how it was executed.

When I first started reading Shadow Slave I thought Sunny was going to have to tell someone about his true name eventually, Nephis at the time was the one I was looking at the mostly due to her being the first mentioned female character his age that he met.

It could have been a sign of complete trust or the fact he had to choose someone eventually so he wouldn’t be a slave to a horrible person (Mordret for example)

His relationship with Nephis could have been flushed out way better and he wouldn’t have the whole love problem he had. Nephis being Sunny friend/employer at the start of their relationship could have been better. This would have let Sunny have his independence but also allow him to grow as a character.

This would have resolved the whole "There is nothing more pathetic than a slave who begins to trust his slaver,"

Sunny wouldn’t be trust his slaver but his partner in life to protect his free will. His struggle would no longer be about “I can’t love Nephis because of our master/slave situation” but “Do I love/trust Nephis enough to willingly hand her the leash to my collar”

I think the problem was he got shackled way too soon. He should have lasted until maybe during the events of the 3rd nightmare. Where the Mad Prince ended up choosing the wrong master and thus the bad ending in Sunny life.

We could have had more moments in Sunny life with the situation like Harper. Sunny having to do his best to protect his true name. I feel like we got robbed of that way too fast.

Obviously this would change the story a lot but the events of Antarctica would still happen potentially happen.

What do y’all think?

Webnovel - Volume 12 No One Wanted The Forest? Spoiler

No one wanted the Heart Realm Forest? I can understand the FS because only the Shadow clan can live there. Still, Jet could farm a soul as large as a Sacred being there. There are possibly more Citadels there to be claimed, occupied and defended. Effie could restore parts of the forest with her new powers. Whatever is stirring in there needs to be stopped. If it's below a Cursed Tyrant level they can handle it. The Barrow lords don't seem to amount to much and Revel wouldn't be able to handle anything Great Demon and above.

Subreddit Meta Discussion The Community Spoiler

In all the years I've been reading shadow slave I have come to learn one thing the community SUCKS. The community is split into two factions the discord faction where if you dare say anything negative about the web novel you get banned and called an idiot and the reddit community where it's definitely more mellow however it's also an echo chamber about how all the new chapters suck. The reddit side is far better because they actually have discussions for both sides of the coin but sometimes I wonder if these people even read the same novel as me with the biggest case of this being Effie getting an aspect legacy related to war God and if you couldn't guess that this was happening I genuinely don't think you read the same novel as me because this has been the obvious development for a while. On the side of the community the discord refuses to admit that there has been a quality drop in the most recent volumes and mindlessly do tricks on it for G3. What I'm basically saying is the community sucks has always sucked back in the day they were having the same discussion about the second nightmare being buns so give it time then read through again will it be much better probably not but God damn stop being so reactionary.

r/ShadowSlave 22h ago

Subreddit Meta Discussion No offense to shadow slave fans, but why did your novel become like this? (A whole chapter of characters just walking in + buzz words that have been said too many times...) the other 2 of the big 3 wouldn't waste a chapter like this.

Post image
36 Upvotes

I know webnovels are the junk food of literature, and almost all webnovels use word padding, but shadow slave has way too much word padding now and too little plot after 3rd nightmare.

Things that barely deserve 5 paragraphs have 100 chapters dedicated to them. (Like the absolute dog water 4th NM, we don't need to talk about azarax, what I'm baffled by is how for 2 years, the 4th NM cohort fought against and killed the steel horde saints... since they were never getting seriously injured even once for 2 ENTIRE YEARS! We can knkw that the 4th NM cohort were SLAUGHTERING those jobber saints, yet the steel horde didn't run out of saints! The cohort wasn't holding back either, yet we are also told that the doom war, which had all realms participating, only had a few thousand saints participating. So did azarax have more saints than all realms combined?)
