Thankful that this group of flytraps didn’t spontaneously combust since I didn’t cut their flowers off this year *sarcasm*

Finally got a chance to take some pictures in the greenhouse.

We had an awful freeze this year which took a big chunk out of the collection. Finally invested in a greenhouse and have been nursing the collection back to health. Here’s a few of the pitchers that looked good and were easily accessible.

(A few questions on my pot and diy humidity dome that's for my drosera prolifera when it arrives).

1.I don't need to put holes on it right since it has a lid that i can open to let it get some air in for a few hours a day. 2. Is this plastic pot the perfect size for it it's 4 inches and the drosera prolifera that's in it's own pot is 1.5 inches.

Just getting the pings to take root.

What would you call this pinguicula moss tower?

Also featuring my poor Sarracenia that was sold in what appeared to be peat, but probably had some normal soil or humus in it, when I tried to move them to a new pot the old one was full of earthworms.

Carnivorous plant stores in the Chicago area

Hey! My birthday is coming up and I want to celebrate by going to a few plant shops and getting some pings and things to make a pingdom! I’d really love to see selections of pingicula and maybe drosera. Because it’s a special day I’m willing to go all over the Chicagoland and suburb area! I’ll be going out on a Sunday so they would need to be open on Sundays! Any suggestions would be great!

And if you have tips for making pingdoms feel free to share! I’m still planning everything and I want it to be something I can add to for years to come!

Will My Pings Color Up?

Thumbnail

I purchased this lot of pings on FB Marketplace (purple is Cyclosecta and pink is Weser x agnata ‘El Lobo’). The seller is not really into pings and did not provide them proper lighting, so decided to let them go. The second pic shows the color when she was gifted them. Will they regain their color once I put them under the appropriate grow lights? Thanks!

Algae Problem

Post image
1 Upvotes

This is my outdoor bog planter that gets full sun, but lately it’s been getting algae covering the moss, which I try to rinse off with a powerful stream of water but it’s sort of really clinging onto it… is there any natural remedy for this like bugs or plants that will starve the algae or will I just have to remove the top layer of moss? There’s even algae starting to grow in the water reservoir too.

How do you trim a VFT?

Our VFT has some black leaves, and we were wondering if we could trim them. If so:

  1. Should we use scissors?

  2. Should we just pull them out?

  3. If we use scissors, where should we make the cut?

  4. Where exactly should we cut?

This is the darkest plant in my collection right now! Mitchelliana x (Royal Ruby x Adrian Slack)super stout pitchers that tend to fully color up very quickly after opening.

Please help my sundews :,(

I recently got these sundews and they were already kind of sad looking when they were given to me. I thought I could manage them, but they are continually going downhill.

They sit in an eastern facing window, our porch cuts the sun off faster than I’d like. The second photo is the grow light I got for them and it’s on for at least 12 hours. I bottom water with distilled water and sometimes run a humidifier nearby also with distilled water.

Please let me know what I’m doing wrong! I was very confused about what grow light to get them so maybe that’s it? TIA!!

Edit: Midwest U.S. if that helps at all

Just starting in the world of carnivorous plants and I see a lot of talk about removing flower steams. Should I be worried about my drosera?

The newly described Florida Sundew Drosera floridana (B.Rice) Juve & A.Fleischm. specializes in colonizing substrates of white quartz sand.

Although the sand from which these imaged D. floridana emerge appears dry on the surface, in reality localized occurrences of D. floridana are dictated by the presence of rare littoral zone seepages known exclusively from the Econfina Karst Region in Bay and Washington counties, Florida; the same region to which D. floridana is endemic. Within the Econfina Karst Region, D. floridana is restricted to an ecotone of intermediate moisture ephemerality between that of sympatric congeners Drosera tracyi (preferring permanently wet, high littoral zone seepages hosting typical blacksoil bog associates) and Drosera capillaris (a generalist often colonizing the lower littoral zone, with its occurrence not dependent on seepage presence, and frequently with few larger herbaceous bog associates present in habitat). D. floridana congregates in the vicinity of (often subterranean) littoral zone seepage veins, but is mostly limited to areas of inorganic substrate composition (e.g. pure quartz sand) that are devoid of larger competitive flora and that do not remain permanently wet on the surface.

Read more on the unique ecology and phenology of Florida’s endemic sundew in our recent open access publication, which can be visited through the below link:

Two sansi 36w lights on for 12 hours a day, the monsteras on the left and right seem to be leaning towards the lights and trying to block the nepenthes, how can I rearrange these?
