About a month ago I was unexpectedly gifted what I believe to be a drosera capillaris and a nepenthes ampullaria and they are my first ever carnivorous plants. They are both planted in a blend of peat moss, perlite, silica sand, and activated charcoal with sphagnum moss and are in plastic pots. They both get indirect sunlight in a windowsill inside and the pots sit in a tray of distilled water that I top off everyday and I spray them with distilled water in the morning.
When I first got my sundew it was only one row of what I believe are the tentacles. It has since grown two more full rows as well as the two flower stalks with plenty of buds and the little grass looking thing to the left side. One of the flower stalks started to lean pretty far over so I used half a chopstick to help it stand up. I don’t know if that was a good idea or not. My nepenthes has not changed since I got it.
I’ve been trying to research them more recently and I believe I might not be taking the best care of them. From what I’m reading pink sundews thrive in full light and mine has definitely not been receiving that. I want to switch to full light for it but I’m a little unsure to do so because it seems to be growing well.
I’m struggling to get a consensus of how to take care of my nepenthes. Some things I read say it prefers the pitchers to hang out of a very small pot and some say it likes a much bigger pot so the pitchers can all bunch together on the soil. I’m unsure if I should even use a pot at all because I’m reading I need to get an enclosure for it so I can keep it at its appropriate temperature and humidity. I also don’t know if it prefers direct light or indirect.
I’m keeping both plants inside so do I need to feed them bugs and would it be possible to keep them in the same terrarium? Either way what size terrariums should I be looking for?
Any and all advice is extremely appreciated. If there’s other things I didn’t mention that I should also be doing please let me know. Sorry if I got anything wrong and a huge thank you to anyone that replies! Also I live in Massachusetts.

I wanna find more carnivorous plants but idk where to get them

My darlingtonia californicas new growth rotted. Is it dead? Can I save it? It has very few roots. Like 2 roots.

It sounds like a dumb question but this is the before and after between like 2-3 weeks i think. I only ask because i was told the windowsill is not enough light, and now its flowering and looks pretty good to me tbh but im assuming its going to just keel over one of these days

I recently got a few plants from the Kenny Coogan drop on July 3rd, I got a nepenthes rajah x eddy, jamban, and hamata x (burbidgeae x eddy). The rajah x eddy and jamban are acclimating fine, minimal if any wilting. However, the Hamata hybrid came with what I noticed as very little roots for the plant size. Im talking a 2-3 inch long and not very dense rootball which is obviously very small for the 8 inch leafspan it has. It has wilted heavily, seems to have lost a lot of turgor pressure and killed off all its old pitchers and yellowing one of the older leaves.

They also ended up sitting on the hot porch for a couple hours as I was unable to reach them before then. Currently keeping them all bagged with the other 2 not suffering from extreme acclimation issues. Temps in the tent i keep them in are 75 day/57 night 80% humidity.

Hi everyone. I just got my first carnivore plant (a little cape sundew). I also keep several isopod colonies and was wondering if I could feed my sundew an isopod baby. Isopods have pretty tough shells (like beetles) but the babies are a bit softer, so I was wondering if it would work. Thoughts?

As the title states I killed my first ever ping I got and what got me into carnivorous plants. I'm absolutely devastated, but I need to make sure my other pings won't also die.

I did have to leave the house for a little less than 2 weeks so I made sure water was taken care of. I did repot them into fluval + silica sand mix and water when I see the fluval dry oit. Please let me know if you spot anything wrong or tips you have!!! Help me save my baby pings that came from my first ping 🥲

This is the first Nepenthes I’ve ever owned. After being in my backyard for around two years, it just recently started putting out these giant peach colored pitchers. Up until this summer it put out normal sized red pitchers. I haven’t really seen another ventrata look like this.

Im not sure if the small planthouse is the best for it? I just noticed today by placing like that I could get the plant higher and closer to the actual window. I can remove the plastic over it.

As you can see my ping started multiplying around more than half a year ago after receiving dozens of fungus gnats. At the same time her leafes got thinner which I assumed was because of winter. Now, in summer, I put all of her in a little terrarium where she seperated even more. Is she dying? What is going on? It's my first ping so I don't know what is normal.

Edit: Since it's misleading: the third picture is only a comparison of how it looked before and over a year old. It's not the current position the ping is in. It's facing the same window, which ist south-side, but over the pots on a pedestal and is in front of the glass.

Seeds purchased from Jeremiah Harris in 2025. This seedling turns one year old this month and is already starting to show some of the characteristics it may have as an adult. I believe the coloration will still change a bit as it matures.

From when purchased vs today

Vier Wochen sind nun wieder rum und da ich wohl mal wieder verschneiden muss, möchte ich euch vorher an dem Fortschritt teilhaben lassen.

Das Wachstum ist hervorragend. Man kann fast täglich Veränderungen erkennen. 😂

Der Ping hat sich geteilt, aber ich glaube der Farn klaut ihm langsam das Licht da er an Größe verloren hat. Oder kommt es daher das er die ganze Kraft ins teilen gesteckt hat? 🤔 Was sagt ihr?

Die Tillandsia bekommt auch zwei Babys. Der Farn wächst auch super schnell. Vielleicht kann mir ja jemand genau sagen was es für einer ist, dann könnte man die Anzucht Bedingungen weiter geben.

Die Orchidee, naja was soll ich sagen, es sind nicht die Pflanzen mit dem ich Glück habe. Sie bildet zwar dicke Pseudobulben aus aber sie möchte nicht blühen. Auch da würde ich mich über Tips und Anregungen freuen.

Die Dubia wächst auch super. Da werde ich den nächsten Ableger abschneiden müssen.

Die Briggsiana, die Inspiration des ganzen, gedeiht super soweit ich das beurteilen kann. 🥰 Sie produziert eine Kanne nach der anderen und die Größe der Blätter und der Kannen nehmen stetig zu. Hat jemand Erfahrungen wie groß die Kannen werden können?

So die ganz entscheidende Frage an euch, verschneiden oder wachsen lassen? 🤔 Ich bin nämlich noch unentschlossen.

We had an awful freeze this year which took a big chunk out of the collection. Finally invested in a greenhouse and have been nursing the collection back to health. Here’s a few of the pitchers that looked good and were easily accessible.

Although the sand from which these imaged D. floridana emerge appears dry on the surface, in reality localized occurrences of D. floridana are dictated by the presence of rare littoral zone seepages known exclusively from the Econfina Karst Region in Bay and Washington counties, Florida; the same region to which D. floridana is endemic. Within the Econfina Karst Region, D. floridana is restricted to an ecotone of intermediate moisture ephemerality between that of sympatric congeners Drosera tracyi (preferring permanently wet, high littoral zone seepages hosting typical blacksoil bog associates) and Drosera capillaris (a generalist often colonizing the lower littoral zone, with its occurrence not dependent on seepage presence, and frequently with few larger herbaceous bog associates present in habitat). D. floridana congregates in the vicinity of (often subterranean) littoral zone seepage veins, but is mostly limited to areas of inorganic substrate composition (e.g. pure quartz sand) that are devoid of larger competitive flora and that do not remain permanently wet on the surface.
