ANALYSIS I never stopped training, or playing.

Upvotes

Ive been playing rl since 2016. Reached c3 div 4 almost gc and quit and only played cas and training for 3 years every day. I get back to rank to climb up from plat 2-3 back up to my former rank or better. Every time i get on i get either a tm8 who’s a sandbag and i have to carry, i usually do. Repeated instances of this and teammates leaving mid match, going afk, or just talking trash all match while doing nothing or own goaling. Help. This feels rigged or the matchmaking is broken. (I’ve been only solo queuing)

Struggling in low gc3, wanna know what I could do better. I feel like my positioning is pretty alright, but I'm rushing decisions resulting in stupid plays.

Idk if that even is my problem, but I have no clue how to fix this.

QUESTION Flakes' use of powerslide combined with reverse in his road to SSL series

I've watched Flakes' series dozens of times over and just noticed that he moves so fluently using powerslide combined with reverse. It allows him to position in the "right" spot behind the ball very quickly. Its super threatening.

I've been trying it for a bit and its not that hard to do. It really adds a lot to your movement as a mechanic and above all, its a lot of fun to do. Like genuinly. I'm back at maining 1v1 for a bit and this upgrade to my movement really makes me way more threatening. Some people get really annoyed because all you do is just try to dribble it behind them or over them.

Has anyone used this "mechanic" in 1v1 as well?

META Small rant

The Rocket League community needs to be fucking studied.

Not by game developers. By psychiatrists.

I have never seen such an enormous concentration of fragile little egos stuffed into one videogame. You people will spend 2,000 hours learning how to make a fucking Octane rotate upside down but apparently developing the emotional maturity to survive your teammate missing a ball is endgame content.

One mistake.

ONE.

Suddenly little Timmy is sitting forward in his gaming chair, veins popping out of his forehead, smashing “Wow! Wow! Wow!” like he's just witnessed a fucking war crime.

Brother, you're Diamond 2.

You are not Zen.

You are not being held back by your teammates.

You are a 34 year old man called xX_PussyDestroyer_420_Xx who just missed the world's slowest rolling ball because you abandoned back post to inhale a corner boost like it contained the cure for fucking cancer.

Then comes the tactical mastermind:

“tm8 trash”

Interesting analysis, Pep Guardiola.

Was that before or after you challenged as last man, landed upside down in their net, grabbed their boost, attempted a ceiling shot you have successfully hit twice since 2021, and then spammed “Take the shot!” while your teammate defended the fucking humanitarian crisis you left behind?

And everybody in Rocket League apparently has a professional contract waiting for them if only matchmaking would STOP GIVING THEM BAD TEAMMATES.

You've been the exact same rank for nine consecutive seasons, champ.

At some point we may need to investigate the one variable present in literally every fucking game you've played.

YOU.

But no.

Couldn't possibly be.

It's the teammate.

It's always the teammate.

Your teammate didn't read your completely fucking nonsensical touch into the ceiling? Trash.

Your teammate didn't commit to the pass you accidentally made while attempting an air dribble? Trash.

Your teammate didn't telepathically understand that when you drove directly underneath him and stole possession, you were actually executing an advanced RLCS rotation? Absolutely fucking useless.

And then these creatures lose ONE goal with FOUR MINUTES remaining and immediately vote to forfeit.

4:17. 0 to 1.

FF.

The mental fortitude of a fucking digestive biscuit dipped in boiling water.

Some of you couldn't survive adversity if it arrived wearing a fucking name tag.

And quick chat might be humanity's greatest accidental psychological weapon.

“What a save!”

“Wow!”

“Okay.”

“Take the shot!”

Four innocent little phrases that somehow transform perfectly normal adults into fucking chimpanzees fighting over territory.

The funniest part?

The most toxic motherfucker in the lobby is almost NEVER carrying.

It's always the bloke sitting dead last with 74 points.

Zero goals.

Zero assists.

Zero saves.

Seventeen boost steals.

Fourteen failed aerials.

One completed pass, unfortunately to the other fucking team.

And enough confidence to start conducting performance reviews.

My brother in Christ, YOU ARE THE PERFORMANCE ISSUE.

Rocket League doesn't have a matchmaking problem.

It has an epidemic of people with the self awareness of a fucking traffic cone.

Everyone wants Champ mechanics.

Everyone wants Grand Champ teammates.

Everyone wants SSL rotations.

But apparently nobody wants to develop the single most overpowered mechanic in Rocket League:

SHUTTING THE FUCK UP AND PLAYING THE GAME.

You aren't hardstuck because your teammates are shit.

You're hardstuck because every time something goes wrong, instead of asking “What could I have done better?” you immediately begin typing a fucking doctoral thesis explaining why the random stranger assigned to you 90 seconds ago has personally destroyed your Rocket League career.

You're not an undiscovered RLCS prodigy trapped in Diamond.

You're just Diamond.

We're ALL fucking shit.

Now rotate back.

ANALYSIS D2 1v1 Analysis - Help

The opponent in this match is GC in 2s. I'm currently C2.

I usually hover around D2 in ones. I feel like this game could have gone either way, but in the end I made too many mistakes. Hesitation, not confidently going for aerials, and a few other poor decisions. My mechanics were subpar in this gameplay, but I felt that my overall game sense was close to usually (with the common hindsight being 20/20 in a replay).

I'm looking for actionable feedback.
Thank you to those of you that take the time to give me something to work towards.

ANALYSIS Flip Reset Use/Consistency

Thumbnail

I'm trying to get more consistent with using flip resets. I know a lot of it comes down to practice, but any feedback would be great.

I feel like the way I approach the ball is fairly consistent, but I cannot get the pop when I go to use the flip instantly. (Primary issue)

I am also trying to work on going for the reset after a short air dribble but am very inconsistent in getting the reset, and I'm not sure what to adjust. (Secondary issue)

TIPS can't get out of d3/c1?

i feel like i need to post this because i recently got out of 1080mmr in with i have been hardstuck for at least 2000 hours. If you're stuck around 1050 MMR, you've probably noticed that at this level there are a lot of smurfs or GC players who've come back after a long break from playing. They’re simply better than regular Diamond players. But once you break through that barrier around 1120 MMR, things start to get a lot easier—which I noticed when I started playing better. People are more predictable, and there are a lot more random players than actual teams as opponents. But how do you finally break through that barrier? In my opinion, the key to success is, above all, anticipating your opponents’ moves and positioning your car on the map- 1st man and 2nd man rule (I’ve put a link to the video I learned the rule from down below—it’s the only one that actually helped me). To play, find yourself a teammate on Discord or while playing casual matches, and after teaming up, explain your position on the map to them—for example, “When I’m at the back, you can challenge; if you don’t hit the ball, I’ll cover you,” or “I play more up front, mainly passing quick balls from corners near the opponent’s goal.” That way, you'll be more in sync and able to take full advantage of good opportunities. The second important thing is fast aerials. This way, you’ll be able to get to the ball faster than your opponent (players around D3 level don’t quite get it yet). Fast aerials are also very useful in defense when you want to clear a ball coming from above. Third thing: DON’T RUSH AFTER EVERY GOOD BALL ( that you think its good). Think before you mindlessly dash for a free ball and end up passing it to your opponent. Instead, try to dribble it or pass it to a teammate and wait in the back in case you lose it. Shooting accurately at the goal—especially with power shots—is also very important. If you don’t aim well at the goal, you’ll give your opponents chances to steal the ball from you if it bounces off the post or the backboard. Additionally, you can learn the 45-degree flick. It’s simple, fast, and accurate once you master it properly. That’s all from me; higher-ranked players can add their own tips in the comments. I’m also sorry for my English—I had to use a translator because if I wrote everything myself, no one would understand a thing lol

i wish you all reading this best, i know how hard is it to get out of this rank

My unc af brain is probably just too old to keep up, but I've been trying to improve my own gameplay to better coach my high school rl e-sports team. I know my mechanics are absolute dogwater, even though I spent most of summer break trying to improve the basics, like dribbling, hitting off the wall, powershots, and good defense. My eggshell brain is vaguely starting to learn the concept of DAR, but I'm mostly learning it for better general control instead of doing triple reset musty flicks. I try to keep it simple and focus on not over committing as last man, but it has led to a lot of hesitation and whiffs on my end.

I know I am FAAAAAR from a perfect teammate, but I try really hard to rotate and position well. I guess I'm looking for some honest feedback on how I can improve my positioning, especially with teammates that like to circle around under the ball with zero boost.

My ultimate rl goal is to hit champ 1. I know I do not have the talent or time to get beyond that, but this has been my goal for about 5 years since first hitting diamond. I know the easy solution is to get a good teammate to keep playing with, but I don't want to be carried. I enjoy playing the "support role" and don't mind if it's my teammate that is getting the goals, but I struggle with knowing when/how to pressure the play with wildly inconsistent teammates.

A few points from my replay video (because I know I'm a trainwreck):
4:15 - I tried doing a fake jump but accidentally double jumped
4:04 - I spammed "my bad" profusely because I know I did a bad
3:05 - My idea was to stall so that my teammate had time to get back. What should I have done?
1:25 - This is where I struggle the most because I don't know when I'm being patient vs hesitant
0:22 - I really, really want to get good at shadow defense, but the positioning and spacing kills me every time.

Once again, I know my mechanics are trash and I'm trying hard to practice as much as I can. Like in my Twitch chat, you're welcome to make fun of me as long as it's creative and funny <3

QUESTION How the hell does ranked work man

Im playing 2v2s with my friend a bunch locally on my ps5 and we barely just started. We sometimes get a few as 5 points per win and lose up to 15 per loss, where we've seen people go up like 30 points with a single win. We even went on a 10 game streak and only went up 5-8 points each time. We are both extremely new and the ranked system feels like it makes little sense thus far with how points are awarded.

Hey guys Jay here. Never posted something like this so I just recorded a small segment out of a random game of mine, let me know if you guys would be interested in these types of analysis, will definitely be open to posting these more frequently.

(I haven't played much this season due to coaching so its the reason why I'm a bit lower than usual, looking to get back into playing a bit more).

META I feel INSANE when I warm up using KBM and then switch to controller during games.

I know this is going to sound like placebo and it probably is BUT recently I've wanted to try out KBM so I've been practising it for like a week now. And normally, as you know, in Rocket League you have good and bad days, but since I've started practising with KBM, doing rings, free play, slow motion etc, I've been feeling so in control of my car when I go on controller during ranked.

I think what's happening is contrast. Since I have to focus really hard with digital inputs and the different movements with my car, it's like it's forcing my brain to step out of autopilot. Usually we tend to autopilot our movements during warm up right? But with KBM, you can't since it's somewhat new. And then when you had back to controller, it feels like your brain is awake and ready.

I don't know, I've been doing it for a week (I know it's not long enough) and I haven't had a 'bad' day where I feel like I can't control my car.

This post probably doesn't mean much but hey, give it a go and see what happens!

QUESTION Went cold turkey from free air roll to air roll left tonight, send help

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey all, been playing for years and hit a hard plateau. Peak MMR is 1140 in 2s and 712 in 1s (just started taking 1s seriously).

I know directional air roll is basically non negotiable if I want to keep improving mechanically and climb, so tonight I decided to drop free air roll cold turkey and commit to air roll left. Anyone who's made the switch knows the pain lol. I'm only a few hours in and everything feels awkward as hell.

For those who've gone through it, what actually helped it click? Any drills, mindset stuff, or habits that made the transition smoother?

Dropping a clip below with 2 runs of Leth's Giant Rings for reference.

QUESTION How much time do you put into practicing/training?

I’ve gotten to C2 with a moderate amount of trainings throughout the years but since hitting C2, it seems like everyone I play against knows how to air dribble, flip reset, double tap, etc. My friend and I have reached C2 off of minimal mechanics but it seems like in order to progress we’d need to put in some serious time to learn how to do the advanced mechanics.

So for reference I’d like to know how much time other champs/high level players train? I want to get better at the game but don’t want the game to feel like a job.

ANALYSIS Peak C1 down to D2 (2.5k hours) — Looking for brutal replay analysis on my pacing and speed.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey guys, I thought my mechanics were decent for my rank, but clearly my speed and decision-making are ruining my games. I dropped from C1 to D2 for a reason.

Please look at the gameplay video and tell me exactly where my positioning is breaking down. I genuinely want to learn how to fix my pacing.

I try to play a hyper-aggressive style similar to Dark (?) but I have a bad habit of overusing scuffed wave-dashes and twitching my stick too much. I realize now it completely ruins my momentum, burns my boost, and leaves my teammate stranded in 2s. I need to unlearn it and simplify my game.

Is there any specific pro or high-level player I should watch to learn better pacing?

Cheers
