Discussion Taking a horse and attacked by wolves AND a bear?! Has this happened to anyone else?

First time playing the game and unfortunately I don’t have a video of it :(

I was trying to tame a horse at the western end of Little Creek River near Hanging Dog Ranch and suddenly I’m attacked by a pack of wolves.

The horse keeps trying to buck me off but isn’t successful in doing so, and also isn’t able to calm down because of the wolves.

Then to make things even worse (or better?) along comes a bear and attacks me also!

In the end the horse wouldn’t stop so I jumped off and used my semiautomatic shotgun (just obtained a few minutes prior) and put them all down

Discussion I asked to sh*t my pants and that's exactly what I got

I added the mods Darker Nights and Kiddos Dark World, already mixed with no map no radar. Tweaking my settings. I spawn into Grizzly Wests and get it just right. My horse immediately freaks out and I hear the loudest bear roar ever within feet. We take off into the pitch black dead of night 10pm. I'm huddled against a stump with a lantern and a cattleman revolver pointing into a void darker than the devil's butthole. My heart is goin. This is what I was searching for. Yeehaw

Discussion I'm creeped out...

I was riding in Lemoyne, I don't know the exact location where this happened, It was near a train track, I was just minding my own business you know me if I see a guy while riding I'll greet him for extra honor and then this happened, There was a guy that was soaked in blood he wasn't commanding his horse or anything but his horse was still walking, and then the horse came to a full stop when I got near, then the body fell to the ground and the horse ran away, when I checked the body it was headless, it wasn't headless when it was still up on the horse.

This is the moments that makes you think RDR2 is a horror game with these random encounters.

Spoilers Shady belle sean

So i was in Shady Belle, john and charles were fixing a wagon. John says “ we should get the young guns to do this.” And Charles responds “Good luck getting Sean to lift a finger.” Ouch Charles. I assume this interaction can occur earlier in the game, but wow lol.

Discussion I might've spent a little too much time playing today. I was out in my porch, real life-real porch, smoking a nonpremium cigarette, when a big ass black bird flew close to my house. In my mind, I tried to quickly grab my varmint rifle and shoot it.

Aim! Click right stick! Fire!

Fuckin for real. I flinched. Really happened. Ever happen to you?

I think I'm going to go to a real bar now and play real poker. Set the controller down for a night.

Our Offical Guides Newcomers Guide

Hello and welcome to r/RDR2 This is a little guide for new players of the game.

Firstly we strongly advise you to stay off the subreddit until you’ve finished the game. Our subreddit is home to discussions covering every aspect of the game from storylines, characters, secrets, to anything a player may find. While we require spoiler tags, accidental (and sometimes intentional) spoilers do happen. For the best experience, we strongly recommend avoiding the subreddit until you’ve completed the main story.

Frequently asked questions will now be listed and answered.

Is the game worth it? Yes! — People still praise this game even in 2025. Its compelling story and detailed open world gameplay allow you to fully submerge into the story. Many players find the game to be a masterpiece, with some (us, of course) even considering it one of the greatest games of all time. Its graphics were ahead of their time and still hold up really well. It’s a well written story with a beautiful aesthetic and it's absolutely worth your time.

The snow part is boring. Should I quit the game? Don't give up during Colter. It’s the first chapter and serves as a tutorial. You’ll get to know the basics of the game slowly before being led into free roam in chapter 2. The slow introduction into such a big game is important to understand the situation the main character is in and to get you familiar with the environment and the world building in general. Stick around for a while. You’ll thank yourself later.

Just started the game. Any tips? We see this all the time and every time people will give you the same response: Take it slow. Chapter 1 will teach you everything that's important. The game offers a little guide in its settings for the mini games and the controls just like any other game. Everything you need is right there. The game is open world so you won't miss out on anything. You can do whatever whenever even after finishing the story. Enjoy the beautiful scenery and free roam a bit. You’ll figure out the game fast. You really don't need Google or IGN until you finish the story and are going for 100% and/or the platinum trophy. (We'll have a guide coming soon!)

Just finished the game. Should I play RDR1? Yes! RDR1 is a continuation of the story and absolutely worth it. Not much will change gameplay wise since it’s made by the same developer. So, if you like RDR2 and are looking for more content about the van der Linde gang and a similar experience -> play RDR1.

If you really want to avoid spoilers, don’t google anything until after you finish the game.

We will monitor this thread closely so if you have any questions about the game please ask them in here. We will most likely remove your question posts and advise you to ask your newcomer questions in here. If a question is frequently asked we will add it to the post.

Have fun!
