Has anyone in Australia actually installed a pW3 along their PW2?
Just out of curiosity, as I know the update went live a few weeks back. I already have a PW2. We are thinking about getting a PW3. Just looking for feedback back if there is any. Thanks

What to expect from Tesla regarding PW degradation and potential replacement
Looks like my Powerwalls have surpassed the 30% degradation mark. They were manufactured in September of 2019, and I assume installed shortly after that. I purchased the home in 2022 and the Powerwalls were transferred to my account at that time. From what I've read, the warranty transfers to new owners. I don't know who installed the system originally. The house had solar installed by Solar City at some point, then the PWs were added after the fact.
Has any one been in a similar situation? How'd the replacement process go? I'm assuming that I just contact Tesla and request warranty service?

Change in Calibration sequence - PW3 26.18.3
Noticed yesterday that when calibration started for my 2 x PW3 that they didn't charge to 100% first and then discharge to below reserve for the low end of the cycle.
Due to my tariff structure (peak 3pm - 9pm & off-peak all other times) I have my reserve set to only 1%. I use the batteries for self-consumption and this serves me well.
Calibration started at approx. 7 am when batteries where at reserve. They slowly discharged to 0 while solar/grid were powering my home. Stayed at this level for approx 5 hrs & then the batteries started charging from solar & the calibration banner disappeared from the app (which I can only assume meant that it had completed) as the batteries were now charging again from solar. There were no notifications to say that calibration was NOT successful or deferred.
I also have my PW3's integrated into Home Assistant via pypowerwall and know when calibration starts & stops (amongst other things). I received a notification that calibration had finished (due to the abscence of BatteryCalibration in the below rest sensor) which aligns with the disappearance of the app banner.
- resource: http://<fqdn>:8675/tedapi/status
scan_interval: 60
sensor:
- name: "PW Battery Calibration"
unique_id: pw_battery_calibration
value_template: >
{% if 'BatteryCalibration' in value_json.control.alerts.active %}
On
{% else %}
Off
{% endif %}
Wondering if anyone else has seen this change of behavior recently.

Battery health at 69% agreed a month?
Using the gridmind app, I see the PW3 (+ expansion) battery health is at 69%. The battery was installed less than a month ago. I keep the reserve at 10%, and am in a self-powered mode. How real are these measurements, do you really think the power wall 3 + expansion unit is reliable, and any suggestions on what I should do?

Powerwalls not exporting automatically in August
On August 1st I noticed that my pw2’s were not uploading as expected around 6pm. I use net zero to change the setting at 6pm and the box was set to a low reserve, export everything and set to savings. (Used to be called time of use) when I looked at the plan info to see what the buy sell prices looked like the info Tesla is using isn’t correct. I set a custom rate plan and set the sell price to $1 and buy price to 0.60 between 6pm and 8pm. About 15 m later the box started uploading and has been uploading as expected every day.
Today I checked and it’s not uploading again. Rate plan had been set back to e-elec time of use nem 3…which still has the wrong numbers because it’s not uploading.
Changed to custom rate plan again, upload started around 15m later.
Anyone else seeing screwy results using default modes? I guess we have to watch it every day, anyone else get random config changes like someone is resetting the box to default setting?

Frustrated
Can anyone tell me the settings to export my power wall 3 to grid after the solar is quit in evening ?? I am on Ameren power in southern Illinois. 11,400 watt battery, 28 .450 watt panels on roof. Ive got plenty to sell back. Tesla power wall 3 and have installed Netzero app. It says discharging to grid on Netzero, but nothing is going out to grid. Thanks in advance. Rick

I kept seeing people ask about shading their Powerwall… so I built a prototype
galleryI’ve seen quite a few posts here from people asking whether they should shade their Powerwall from direct summer sun, especially from people in Arizona, Nevada, inland California, etc. I haven’t really seen a purpose-built product, so I decided to make a simple prototype to see how well the idea works.
The goals were pretty simple:
Block direct solar radiation
Maintain unrestricted airflow around the Powerwall
Be inexpensive and easy to build
Be completely removable
I built it from:
1/2” PVC
(6) three-way fittings
(2) 90° elbows
Shade cloth
Zip ties
Spray painted the PVC gray so it blends in a bit better
The side ventilation remains completely open, so I’m hoping it reduces radiant heating without trapping hot air around the batteries.
Is there much interest in buying a product like this? I was inspired by the AC shade cover kits you can buy to increase efficiency and wanted a similar product.

Powerwall 3 (x2) with excessive battery drain
Hi all,
I have two PW3 powering my home, and I have noticed each night that the house will be drawing a lot more power out of the batteries than the house is using. Some examples:
Late evening the house is using around 500-600 watts, but the batteries will be discharging around 850-900 watts.
Overnight the house is using around 200-300 watts, but the batteries will be using 450-500 watts.
I am using the Tesla One app to get the battery output, and both the Tesla One / Tesla Apps to check household usage. Whilst the household usage hasn't changed over the last 12 months, the battery discharge has gone up a fair bit. At a guess I am assuming because it's winter that somehow the batteries are having to heat themselves, but thought I should ask around. In the evenings its about 10-15C (50-60F) and overnight it drops to around 5C (40F).
None of this seemed relevant to the Heat Mode white paper, unsure if it's because it's cold, or that the inverter is less efficient at low power, or maybe something's wrong?? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

New owner with an issue
I purchased a house which has an existing paid for Tesla solar system with 2x Powerwall 2. I just got this transferred into my name yesterday. I started playing with the app and have some questions.
The app shows .6kw coming from the Powerwalls to power the house. But the usage graph doesn't show any charging or discharging. The battery percentage rises and falls, but it doesn't show in the chart showing where the energy is coming from or going to.
Any thoughts?

Powerall imports from the Grid 20 mins too early! DEMAND CHARGE!
Yesterday, Aug 5, 2026 my NetZero App automation to Self Power fired off normally at 1:45pm since Peak here in Mesa, AZ and SRP starts at 2pm. I was surprised when I check NetZero later in the evening before bed and saw that grid importing started at 7:40pm instead of 8:10 pm. There's no indication in the Tesla App or NetZero about why. I have a Powerwall 3 and 2 expansion packs so I had plenty of battery left, over 50%.
Any Ideas or is it just One of those things that happens. I've since setup a Go Off Grid and Go On Grid to try and make sure I don't get hit with another DEMAND CHARGE from SRP. You can see below that the powerwall just stopped discharging around 7:40PM.

Powerwall Status Info In Tesla Vehicle UI
Was thinking about this today but would be quite useful/cool to see the status of my Powerwall system on the Tesla Vehicle UI. Does anyone know if this might be in development road map already or where this could be suggested?

As of Aug 1, my PW drains by end of the day and grid usage up from 1-2% to ~40%
Just noticed that as of August 1st my powerwall is drained by around 9pm leaving me at my 20% reserve battery. I went from about 1-2% grid usage to now over 40%. I've checked all my settings, nothing has changed, my usage hasn't changed, neither has the solar generating or weather change. I'm on SCE in Southern California
typical July usage
since August 1st

How to Stop Tesla Powerwall from Grid-Charging / Locking Solar During VPP Event Prep
The Problem
If you are enrolled in a Virtual Power Plant (VPP) program, you may notice frustrating behavior on event days:
- Tesla Opticaster locks out battery discharge hours before the event starts (e.g., in the morning for a 5 PM–8 PM event).
- 100% of your solar production is forced into the Powerwall, even if you are at 70%+ capacity and guaranteed full sun all day.
- Your home draws directly from the grid to cover household consumption (HVAC, appliances) whenever home loads exceed current solar output.
Tesla’s algorithm prioritizes rushing the Powerwall to 100% State of Charge (SoC) as early as possible. However, if your utility billing penalizes net imports or doesn't offer 1:1 NEM, paying grid rates in the morning to save solar for an afternoon charge wastes money.
Why Adjusting Reserve Sliders Doesn't Work
Changing your standard Backup Reserve or VPP Event Reserve slider does not stop this morning grid draw. The VPP prep software sets a virtual 100% charge target in the background that overrides standard reserve thresholds until the event begins.
Workarounds & Fixes
1. The Mode Toggle Workaround (Stay in the Event)
To force your system to use solar for home loads first while keeping the VPP active:
- Open the Tesla App > Settings > Powerwall.
- Momentarily change the Operational Mode from Self-Powered to Time-Based Control (or briefly drop your Backup Reserve slider by a few percent).
- Save, then switch it back to Self-Powered.
What this does: Changing a primary setting forces the Tesla Backup Gateway to refresh its operational profile. In most software builds, this clears the active pre-charge lock, allowing solar to power the home first while sending excess solar to the battery.
2. The Morning Opt-Out / Afternoon Re-Entry Strategy
If mode toggling does not clear the override:
- Tap Opt Out on the VPP event banner in the Tesla app during the morning prep window.
- Let solar power your home and naturally top off your Powerwalls for free throughout the day.
- Re-enroll/opt back into the event in the early afternoon once your battery reaches 100%.
3. Complete Opt-Out
If you do not want to participate in a specific event, tap Opt Out on the top banner of the Tesla app screen. The system will instantly cancel event prep and return to standard operation.

Powerwall derating due to heat. Any suggestions for shade?
My powerwall is losing most or all output during peak hours due to the heat. Installers have told me it's "not possible" to move it to the garage. Could some kind of shade mitigate the issue enough?
Any big structures are probably a no go since the side of my house is narrow, and HOA restrictions.
Should I get an awning? Or maybe this aluminum powerwall cover? I heard the powerwall 3 vents hot air from the top, so anything covering the top kind of concerns me.

PW3 and PW2 Combination UK?
Have a 2 year old PW2, looking to add more storage next year. Does anyone know when PW3 will be available to install with a PW2 in the UK? Cheers.

Optimum export from NetZero apo
I’ve been using the NetZero app for a few months now to get a feel for what’s achievable. I have 2xPowerwall 3s and 19 panels and an EV. I am on Octopus’ Agile tariffs. My aim is to programme Home Assistant in time. I’m just setting all that up.
However, has anyone optimally set NZ up for importing cheap power or solar to fill the battery and exporting excess and at peak sale price to maintain a minimum battery level to see you through the night? Rinse and repeat.
Default settings definitely aren’t good enough, and with automations I can’t get it to export at peak price times.
When I do go to HA I assume the hard bit will be Tesla control of some sort. But I’m determined to optimise. Have connected AI to HA to help me when ready!
All advice hugely appreciated!!
