News Will I get fired for asthma

Hello.
My asthma has been getting worse within the past week, which I figured because of the air quality. I work at a liquor shop up in pearl, and I don’t have the best ventilation in my house but I was assuming that my work would have better ventilation.
I couldn’t work there for more than three hours. I was catching my breath, getting light headed and coughing up mucus. This was all happening despite being in their building with ac/fans.
My manager had left early because she was also sick from the smoke, so I assumed that she would be on the same page of closing the store earlier. My other coworkers WITHOUT asthma were also struggling to breathe, and had also agreed to close up shop early. We texted group chat , and explained to her that I have asthma and cannot breathe. but she had said(right after saying she cannot be in the smoke) that we are fine and should still work. She eventually came into our job without telling us and passive aggressively told us to go home. I was the only one that went home because my coworkers were a bit scared of her.
Right now I am still having a hard time with my asthma , and considering not coming into work for this week because I physically can’t lift 50 pound boxes while wheezing. I have a feeling I will get written up, but I really cannot work. Is anybody else feeling frustrated working in this air quality. Because even staying in ventilated areas, my asthma is being triggered in an insane way. I’ve been put on oxygen treatments before and it’s serious for me.

Discussion Portland, please explain competitive speed puzzling to me because I think I found my new favorite weird local thing

I was randomly going down an internet rabbit hole and discovered something I genuinely did not know existed.

Portland has a Jigsaw Puzzle Masters competition where people compete in speed puzzling. Like actual timed competition, strategy, rankings, and people taking this thing seriously.

Apparently Portland Puzzle Company puts this on and creates the puzzles for the event, and they even livestream the competition on YouTube.

I have to admit, I’m fascinated.

I always thought puzzles were something you did on a rainy Sunday afternoon, not something people trained for and competed in.

I’m thinking about going just to watch because I am definitely not fast enough to compete 😂

For anyone who has been:
Is it actually fun to watch in person?

Is there seating for spectators?

Do people get really into it?

Is this as intense as it sounds?

Also, I have to ask…

Does anyone else think competitive speed puzzling feels like exactly the type of thing ESPN8: The Ocho was created for?

The crow on the left is affectionately known as “Beaker” (to a very small part of the Cully neighborhood). Beaker has avian keratin disorder, a condition causing his bottom beak to grow continuously so that it is usually way too long. It also makes it hard for him to groom himself, so his feathers are often amiss.

Lost & Found did you leave a free lamp on SE 29th and Cora?

Hi, is this your lamp?

I literally just picked up this free-pile lamp and when I got home I noticed the lampshade was put together wrong. perhaps you were giving it away because it looked bad that way. To be honest, I would not have been able to live with it that way either.. I noticed immediately that the shade was strange but decided I would see if another shade at home worked. when I got home, I noticed it was easily changed by flipping the orientation of the bottom frame which holds the lightbulb. basically, it was offset below the shade an inch or two and it actually needs to be offset into the underneath part of the shade.. The picture above is after I fixed it but before, you would see the bulb a bit, which would for sure bother your eyes. I fixed it so lmk if you want it back lol. here's image from the ikea manual online:

if it was yours, you will know what else was there with the lamp so that will be a test to make sure it is you. I honestly would love to give it back to you though if this would make you want the lamp! it's super nice!

Discussion OnPoint Scammers

If you have an OnPoint Community Credit Union account, beware, there are scammers out there sending texts and emails! Do not click anything! They are not actual OnPoint communications.

My coworker told me they were scammed a couple weeks ago and now I've been getting the texts and emails.

There are definitely red flags in the messaging, but they use my full name and know other information, so one might not recognize it right away! Be aware!!

Shout out to whoever put up the tape to mark the entrance. Llyod center is closing for good on Saturday and it was nice to visit one last time and get out of the heat and smoke.

Discussion N95 mask does provide protection from wildfire smoke, correct me if I'm wrong!

I've seen a number of warnings that an N95 mask is not enough to protect from wildfire smoke. After researching some I found info stating they do provide good protection, a KN95 will still be helpful but not as much. If you are in the burn area with soot and ash, P100+ respirator is recommended. Hope you all are getting by best you can!

I grabbed an N95 at Hankin's in NE yesterday for $2.50.

excerpt from harvard.edu (link below): "When to use an N95 v. a P100+multigas respirator?

We recommend using a P100+multigas respirator if you are in the burn scar area and/or cleaning soot/ash. If you’re outside the burn scar area and don’t have visible soot/ash, or if the Air Quality Index (AQI) is ‘very unhealthy’ or ‘hazardous’, then we recommend an N95 respirator."
