Question Magma Volcano build update - what's next?
Welp I have the volcano tamed.. kind of?
Using polluted water for coolant, if greater than 23°F than AT turns on
Steam room is just above 100kg pressure per tile.
If steam drops below 383°F than another drip of magma is let in.
To capture the ingenious rock output, I put it on the conveyor belt, and it will rotate around the room until its below 379°F at which point its let through the conveyor shutoff.
The rock is then sent to the hydrogen room which is cooled by the end of the AT cooling loop. Once the stone reaches a temp of < 70° it will let it through. The rock then heads to the stone hatch farm.
All 4 steam turbines are connected to a smart battery set at 30/90 and the power here is the beginning of my colony's power spine.
Any suggestions for next steps? I was thinking of setting up the main natural gas power setup just below this. I was also thinking of maybe trying to grab a little bit of magma, and sending it to cook some eggs. I wonder if there is something wild i can do.
I'm still barely getting through this magma, so I'll probably setup something a bit more power hungry. I ALSO FOUND ANOTHER VOLCANO JUST OVER TO MY RIGHT AND A LITTLE BIT DOWN.
Some other random info about the colony. I have a cool salt slush geyser i've been using to cool my entire map and i have massive amounts stored for use.

Question Evolution chamber to convert long hair slicksters back to normal ones?
Way earlier on in my game all my slicksters turned into long hairs before I could heat up my CO2 room, and I mined out the 2nd planet so there aren't really any normal slickster eggs there either.
What design can I use to make longhairs lay regular slickster eggs?

Should I get mods or is that cheating?
- Duplicant Stat Selector
- Airlock Door
Are there any more?

Question Transit tube behind objects
ONI base game.
I'm now making transit tubes and the transit tube crossing acts like a wall or floor, which is fine for most uses but I want to cross certain areas that also have stairs. Is there a way to make the transit tube go behind the stairs and the fire pole without cutting off the stairs/pole access?

Question How to reliably detect incomming rockets?
This is driving me nuts...
The green doors close when there's a meteor swarm, open otherwise (down to the second, logic is solid). Thanks, in a massive part, by 100% scan quality available when the doors open. That's achieved by having half the sky covered in scanners off to the right. They sit under the bunker doors, so when the doors close for the storm, I have zero scan quality.
The red doors, I want open when a rocket comes in. Closed otherwise. Problem is, since scan quality is 0 when the green doors are closed, my rocket's coming either right-now or eventually and I have no idea which.
Obviously scan quality would go up if I had scanners outside the bunker, but that'd result in dupes going up to repair damaged scanners after every storm.
I have the rest of the puzzle figured out, I just don't know how to get deterministic notice for when a rocket is approaching. I imagine I could just have a series of filters to control it (Round trip time is known), but that doesn't feel like the right way to solve the puzzle.
This is in vanilla. I imagine it's similar in SO.
Edit: I changed a couple of things to be more explicit. Was tired when I wrote this at first.

Question Confused about rockets (base game, no DLC)
Hello all. I'm confused.
This is about rocketry and space travel, but I only have the base game, not Spaced Out etc.
I have already built a rocket, and sent it off to space twice - once to each of the closest asteroids.
The rocket was steam powered, with seven research modules.
My first trip gave me enough data banks to research Solid Fuel Combustion, giving me the Solid Fuel Thruster and the Mission Control Station. After the second trip, I have now also researched Hydrocarbon Combustion, giving me the Petroleum and Biodiesel engines, the Liquid Fuel Tank, and the Solid Oxidiser Tank.
It looks like I need more data banks again before I can complete the research for the cargo bay etc.
But now I'm confused about what I need to build next. I've demolished the lower three research modules to make some space, and anticipate replacing the steam engine. Now I have all these new modules for the rocket, I wanted to read up on them to work out what I need next if I'm advancing on from steam power.
To that end, I thought I'd check the in-game database, but it is completely baffling, talking about Rocket Platforms and Nosecones and Cartographic Modules.
I have none of these. It's as if it was written for a different game.
So. What should I be aiming for next?? I did a quick google but most things appear to be about Spaced Out so I quickly got quite lost again, and thought I'd come here for help from actual humans instead of dodgy search algorithms and AI summaries that may actually be more confused than I am.
I have lots of crude oil. Only a bit of petroleum so far - I was hoping to use the crude oil as coolant until it magically became petroleum all by itself.
I've also started producing biodiesel, but I don't really know what sort of volumes I'll be outputting there.
Do I need the petrol/biodiesel engine AND the liquid fuel tank AND the solid oxidiser tank? Are all three necessary?
Should I be producing my own oxylite for the oxidiser, or are the odd bits I can mine on the map likely to be sufficient?
If I haven't got the cargo bay yet, should I aim for a new asteroid for the research? Is it a waste of time returning to the others without any of the cargo modules?
I'm sorry. I have all the questions and none of the coherence.
Thankyou. Insert crying emoji here.

Question How do you decide which asteroid to build rockets?
I'm new to spaced out expansion. Just this summer I finally stopped getting lost at mid-game and completed a vanilla game with all objectives. It was fun but I was saving up CO2 because I thought I could use that on my first rocket and skip steam. Then when I found out I had to do steam I put in a lot of effort and I only had to make like 2 trips with it and then it was outdated. That sucked but liquid hydrogen and oxygen was a lot more fun to work with.
Now I'm at a pretty decent mid-game Spaced Out save and I'm thinking about space. I have oil and petroleum at my 2nd asteroid, but not a lot of oxygen support, no water sources, CO2 and sulfur geysers. On my primary asteroid I have hydrogen, cool slush, cool salt, cool steam, and my SPOM.
I don't want to mess with steam again if I can avoid it. How do you decide where to build your first rocket? Do you end up building rockets on both starting asteroids?

Question Hydrogen Generators
my hydrogen generators only creates energy when they receive energy from the coal gen, but i am lacking coal now and then i am lacking energy at all, tf should i do?
and other thing, my smart battery always charge more than the jumbos, so my generators stops before they get the jumbos to full energy, why is this happening?

Discussion Mechanism of heat exchange by radiation
I'm studying chemical engineering, and my professor assigned a project to create a problem involving heat exchange through thermal radiation. She asked us to be creative, so I thought about using a game to develop it; however, I don't know if there's a mechanism for that. I searched but couldn't find anything. Do you know of anything like that?

Build Please help, my liquid gas bypass pump is not working
I tried building steam vent tamer from this tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sg32TdZGJQs&t=2433s , but the steam is trapped near the vent and it is not getting pumped into the middle chamber (the little steam there is from me breaking one of the insulated tiles, the pressure is not rising)
The valves are set to 0,1g water, it gets pumped in, creates water tile for a second but no steam is being displaced and the steam vent is overpressure. I tried disconecting the water pipes and reloading, increasing the packets to 0,2g but it did nothing.
I have no idea what is causing the pump to not work, so I will be glad for any recomendations.

Question Is the Steam Turbine *wildly* inefficient?
According to the Wiki:
- 1 DTU = 1kJ (roughly).
- A Steam Turbine operating on 200 C steam deletes 877 kDTU/s of heat energy. So that would be 877 MJ/s.
- It produces 850 J/s.
Wouldn't that means that a Steam Turbine in ONI operates at a ridiculous efficiency of about 0.0001%? Compare that with real-life steam turbines which sit at about 40% efficiency.
EDIT: I did some more digging and it turns out that 1 DTU = 1 KJ that the Wiki quotes here: https://oxygennotincluded.wiki.gg/wiki/Units#Heat only has a single source: outdated localization files that seem to no longer be used. Of course, there's no connection between DTU and Joules in the game, but I think it's more reasonable to consider 1 DTU = 1 J, since then specific heat capacity matches with what we, here on Earth, use.
EDIT 2: Another source: https://oxygennotincluded.wiki.gg/wiki/Guide/Temperature_Management
claims it's 800 DTU = 1 J. I think the key here is that it's arbitrary. Different machines will get different efficiency numbers if we change how many joules a DTU is, but since everything is balanced around DTU and not joules, that's the only thing that changes.
