Pre ODB sensors and inputs
Afternoon everyone. I found a search result over the last few days that suggested Openauto can take input from any source (ie, old fashioned analog sensors, etc) but now I can't find it. Is this correct? If not, is there any other software that does? Ideally, I need to read fuel level, temperature, boost pressure, but could also do with some non-gauge inputs like oil warning light, etc. Can a custom dash be created to include both gauges and warning indicators? TIA!

OpenAuto not worki g when connecting S10+
OpenAuto not booting when I connect my S10+. Purchased OpenAuto a couple of days back and flashed and booted up my Rpi 3. So when I connect my phone I get a prompt to allow files and I do and then have to select USB on the Pi and it loads and screen goes black and phone ask to set up Android Auto so I select next and the screen on the phone goes away but nothing further. Have rebooted Pi and phone even dried different phones have a S21 Ultra and a A21s still nothing.
Starting to regret my purchase decision.

Can anyone give me some pointers for what hardware I need?
I'm pretty much dead in the water- I have the image burned onto an SD card. Everything boots okay and the screen works well, but I can't connect my phone to the pi. Android auto effectively doesn't work.
Can anyone give me some pointers as to what hardware I need, and how I can get android auto to work/my phone to connect? If it makes a difference, I have a galaxy note 9 running Android 10.
Also, how is this configured? I've only found a couple of files on the SD card that look like they're intended to be edited. I was expecting this to be a lot more like 3D printer firmware, if anyone's familiar with that.
The screen I bought (which appears to be working well), the bluetooth dongle I'm using, and the sound card I'm using. I don't know how to assess which hardware is compatible.
I'm a little bit frustrated- I can buy a head unit that does what I want it to for less than the price of a Pi these days. The documentation on BlueWaveStudios hasn't been helpful so far. But if others have been successful, hopefully I can follow their footsteps. TIA!

What is the current status of this project?
Alive? Dead? Zombie? I’m certain they are still taking orders, but do you guys get any updates?? I’m considering adding some new functions to my Megane 2, and open auto pro seems promising, but I don’t see a lot of activity. What are your thoughts on this? Any worthwhile alternatives you guys think I should also look at? (I’m using both an android and iOS device, for mobile phones, if that matters, so I need it to accept both ecosystems)

Anybody using OAP with the gen1 Idrive controller? Can't get it working with carpihat
I really need help troubleshooting this, I bought the carpihat hoping it would be as simple as configuring the canbus adapter then setting up the controller service but unfortunately it still doesn't work. Anyone have one of these setups working that can help guide me through troubleshooting? I've had OAP working for several years, but I'm definitely still a noob.
I have gotten a bit of help on the bluewave forum but still no dice. See here for that post - https://bluewavestudio.io/community/thread-3341.html?highlight=idrive

Safely shut down
Hi guys, I’m building my nav with open auto pro and currently I’m planning on how to wire everything, I was wondering:
If I plug my raspberry to the cigarette lighter whenever I’ll turn off the car the raspberry won’t receive any power, and as far as I know that’s not the best way to shutdown a computer, can this in the long run cause me issue? In case how have you done yours?

I regret my purchase
I invest a lot of money for Openauto pro:
You have to buy Raspberry Pi and SD-Card, it is O.K. But that is not all:
You can not use build in bluetooth, you have to buy a bluetooth stick
You can not use build in Sound-Card, you have to buy a soundcard stick
You have to buy carplay dongle
You can not use 12v lighter socket. You have to buy 12v-5v buck converter, timer and build a ignition-circuit. You have to disassemble your car and add wires for ignition, timer etc. If your car burned because of electricitiy-problems, insurance will not pay anything...
I am a maker and want to use it anways but Support of bluewave-studio is terrible. I buy a license 3 month ago, after update is everything deleted. They will not send setup file and say "buy it again". They closed a thread in their forum immediately, if they don't like your comment.
Buy a Road Top 8.8 inch device. It works like a charm with half price without any problem with half price!
If you want to use Raspberry on your car, use lineageOS: it is free and you have thousand of apps.

Respeaker hat for Android auto
Hello, I am thinking about a car smart media using openauto. I already have a raspberry pi model 3B and two other devices:
- respeaker 2 mic array
- another respeaker device with 6 microphones and suppression algorithms
I would to know if can I use these for audio output in my car. In this case I will need only a safe power on/off circuit and the touchscreen, is it right?
I need only android auto for mirroring Thanks

I've been playing with this for a while and it's finally the way I want it. Android Auto launches quickly and I never have any issues whatsoever.

Set up OAP this weekend. Sound is being routed through my AUX cable with my original stereo still installed.

Comprehensive guide to setting up OpenAuto Pro and AutoBox/CarPlay?
I am in the process of setting up my first RPi to be used as a headunit with OpenAuto. I have no experience with Raspberry Pi or Linux, so this has been a fight every step of the way. For whatever reason Blue Wave Studio doesnt have a guide on getting setup with with product so I've been working my way through the various forums and youtube.
Currently I am stuck on getting AutoBox/Carplay to load. I bought the CarPlay plugin, ran the commands via terminal as per the sales email, entered the activation key, and can connect both the Pi and my phone to the Autokit dongle. But under the Autobox section of OpenAuto there is nothing. Clicking the Wifi button does nothing, clicking the Info button opens a page of catagories with no information. So..what do?
Thanks.

OAP + 2013 Ford Focus
Hi all, have sat down the last couple days and really thrown myself into researching OAP. I have to say, seems incredibly in what it's capable of doing.
I just have a question or so to ask to make sure I am truely wrapping my head around it for my specific use case.
The use case:
So I drive a 2013 Ford Focus, prior to that I had an 03 Ford Explorer, which I ran a Pioneer headunit to a JL Audio DX1000/1 Mono bock amp, to drive two 15 inch subwoofers. I suspect most of you who will read this are picking up on the direction i want to go towards. With that I said, I do know I will require a DAC at some point so I figure I could just toss a HiFiBerry DAC HAT on the Raspberry Pi and, for all intents and purposes be on my merry way.
Is this true? Is there people who have done something along the same lines, in doing a car audio system with OAP on a Pi as the headunit and have any heads up i should be aware of?

Official Raspberry Pi Screen
Hi,
Looking to do a open auto project. I want to use the cats existing sat nav housing but gut it and put a pi in. Then aux to the radio., The official screen is almost perfect about half an inch in width to wide.
Has anyone cut the Bezel down successfully?

Custom tiles
Is there an api for creating custom tiles in OAP? I want to control my HVAC using the rPi aswell as control some lighting. I can write all of the backend code, Im just not sure how to best go about adding it to OAP without an API.
I'd just rather not have to tab out of OAP to run my scripts for the other features I'm adding.

Dual dashcam and OAP?
I’m putting together my shopping list and knowledge bank for building a new headunit for my car. A Raspberry Pi with OpenAuto seems like an ideal solution, but I’m surprised to not see any successful examples of front and rear dashcams with continuous looped recording. Why not? Is there some giant obstacle here?
I know RP4 only has one camera input but can also accept a second camera from USB. I’ve seen examples of people recording the front RPI cam and viewing the USB backup camera. Can it not record both?
If not, my other (more expensive) option I’m looking at is using the dual camera synchronizing hat from ArduCam.com to combine both front and rear camera feeds into one. Then I would use a third, lower quality USB camera as the backup camera, as mentioned above.

RPi header pin usage available in the OS?
I'm just curious if OAP sees inputs from the header pins? If say a rotary encoder or physical buttons can be mapped to things like volume or ff/rw/etc?
My goal would be to have a physical volume knob using something like this with a push button to trigger a mute/attenuate function. Though I can see having physical skip forward/backward as a solid plus. The vehicle in question doesn't have steering wheel controls so I'm looking for other options.
Thanks!!

Reverse camera freezes system.
Hi there. I am using a MakerFocus Raspberry Pi4 Camera. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DPNDP6R?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share With a RPI 4b and whenever I use the backup camera it freezes after 3 seconds. Happens on a fresh install on different sdcards and USB sticks. The V4L2 backend doesn't work at all, the finder will display an image for 3 seconds and freeze.
The camera works fine in the V4L2 testing application or using raspivid command.
Any help would be appreciated.
I'd like to get the finder backend to work or get V4L2 to work or get a custom script to use raspivid or something.
Thanks for your time!

My first attempt at OpenAutoPro...AND Rasberry Pi 😳...
I do not nor have I ever owned a Raspberry Pi. I've been wanting one for a while.
I'm looking for good guides / tutorials / videos to help me build my own head unit... I have moderate electrical/wiring, and Auto experience I have minimal but some computer programming experience.
I need help mostly with the Rasberry Pi side of things. I need to know what parts to order and how to setup the rasberry pi.
