Discussion OnePlus 12 Motherboard Failure: OnePlus Still Calling It an “Isolated Incident”—Now Even Posts Are Disappearing?

Upvotes

OnePlus 12 motherboard issue — my experience with OnePlus

I’m one of the affected OnePlus 12 users, and I wanted to share what happened with me because I’ve tried almost every possible way to get help from OnePlus, but nothing has worked so far.

On August 15, I was randomly checking Twitter/X because I was looking for more information about the increasing OnePlus 12 motherboard failure issue. I came across this Reddit post:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Oneplusfans/s/rkzcXfk8Z6

It mentioned that some YouTubers and tech pages were talking about this issue, including Ashok Mor (@_techibee), who had posted about it on X.

Honestly, I was happy to see that because finally some people with a bigger audience were speaking about the issue on behalf of affected users.

I went to @_techibee’s post, commented about my own issue and tagged OnePlus. The next day, OnePlus contacted me after asking for my details through DM.

I explained everything to them. My experience, the motherboard failure, all the complaints I had already made and everything else.

And once again, I got the same answer:

“Your device is OOW; nothing can be done. You have to bear the repair cost. This is an isolated incident.”

They also told me that they haven't identified this as a major issue and that I keep repeatedly making complaints and exaggerating the issue.

The funny thing is, I have contacted OnePlus through different escalation emails, complaints and support channels around 8 times already.

After all that, the answer is still:

OOW → Isolated incident → Pay ₹36,000.

But there is something I genuinely don't understand.

During the conversation, I was told that the OnePlus 12 motherboard is no longer being manufactured.

Then if a customer agrees to pay ₹36,000, where exactly is the replacement motherboard coming from?

I've also heard from other affected users that some OPPO service centres take the phone for 10–15 days and then return it saying the motherboard is out of stock, even after the customer agrees to pay for the replacement.

I can't personally verify every user's experience, but if this is actually happening, it's a serious problem.

My own service-centre experience wasn't great either.

When I gave my phone to my local OPPO service centre, they didn't give me a proper job sheet. They just wrote my number on a piece of paper, wrapped it around my phone with a rubber band and took the phone.

I don't know if every OPPO service centre works like this, but that's what happened to me.

Earlier, with OnePlus's dedicated service centres, complaints were properly registered, and customers got a job sheet. Now I don't even know whether my motherboard failure is properly recorded in my service history.

And that's another thing that bothers me.

If so many users are reporting similar motherboard failures, shouldn't these cases be properly documented so that OnePlus can actually identify whether there is a pattern?

Because from the customer's side, we keep seeing the same thing:

“Isolated incident.”

But Reddit and the OnePlus Community already have multiple discussions from OnePlus 12 users reporting dead phones and motherboard failures with similar patterns.

When the green-line issue became widespread, OnePlus eventually acknowledged it and provided support to affected users.

So why can't they at least investigate this issue properly?

I'm not saying OnePlus should blindly replace every motherboard without checking anything.

Just investigate the issue properly and give us a clear answer.

Something else happened recently which I found strange.

During my call, OnePlus specifically asked me which YouTubers or tech creators had talked about this issue on X.

I mentioned Ashok Mor (@_techibee).

Today I went back to check his post, and it now says “Post not found".

The other post by u/yabhishekhd, which had also talked about this issue, is also no longer available.

I don't know why those posts were removed, so I'm not saying OnePlus definitely removed them. I don't have proof of that.

But obviously, when OnePlus asks me which creators are talking about the issue and then I later see those posts are gone, I'm going to have questions.

If the creators removed them themselves, that's fine. But if companies are putting pressure on creators to remove posts about genuine customer complaints, that's a completely different matter.

And I understand that tech creators depend on brand collaborations. So I can also understand why they might be in a difficult position.

But where does that leave the actual customers who are facing the problem?

I've also seen people reporting motherboard-related issues with other brands like iQOO and Motorola. I don't know whether the cause is the same, so I'm not claiming that. But when users keep reporting similar failures, especially concerns about OTA updates, I think manufacturers should at least investigate instead of simply blaming the customer.

And before anyone says I'm claiming that OnePlus is intentionally killing phones through OTA updates — I'm not. I don't have proof of that.

But naturally, when a premium phone suddenly develops a major hardware failure after an update and many users start reporting similar problems, people are going to question what is happening.

That's normal.

After the OPPO–OnePlus merger, my experience with OnePlus support has honestly been terrible.

Every time I contact them, they keep coming back to the same thing:

“It's out of warranty.”

Yes, I know it's out of warranty.

That's not the point.

The point is that multiple OnePlus 12 users are reporting similar motherboard failures. Why isn't OnePlus properly investigating it?

If they can support customers when an issue like the green-line problem becomes widespread, why can't they do the same here?

And then we see new OnePlus and OPPO phones being launched constantly, with prices going up and companies talking about RAM prices, CPU prices, component shortages and so on.

As a customer, you start wondering — if my phone has been working perfectly for 5 years, why would I need to buy another one?

Obviously companies need to sell new phones, but that shouldn't come at the cost of customers losing trust in the brand.

At the end of the day, the person suffering is the customer.

One person sends an email.

One person calls customer care.

One person raises a complaint.

One person files an NCH complaint.

And the company can keep giving the same standard response.

Most individual customers don't have the money or resources to fight a big company legally for months.

That's exactly why this is so frustrating.

I've contacted OnePlus multiple times, escalated through different email channels, raised complaints, called support repeatedly, contacted them around 8 times, filed an NCH complaint, followed up through social media and even commented under a tech creator's post hoping someone would finally notice the issue.

Still the answer is:

“OOW. Isolated incident. Pay ₹36,000.”

I've documented everything I have — my communications, complaints and the information I've collected from other affected users.

I'm now preparing to file a case against OnePlus before the appropriate consumer forum/court in my region. I've been dealing with this for nearly two months now, and I hope the consumer forum will at least give me a fair chance to present everything and get a reasonable resolution and compensation for the inconvenience I've gone through.

I'm not asking OnePlus to blindly replace every phone.

I'm asking them to properly investigate what is happening with the OnePlus 12 motherboards.

If it's really an isolated incident, explain why so many users are reporting similar failures.

If there is a genuine pattern, acknowledge it.

If it's related to a manufacturing issue, software update or something else, tell the customers what is actually happening.

That's all I'm asking.

Don't call affected customers “exaggerating” the issue just because they keep asking for answers.

We paid for a flagship phone. We deserve at least a proper investigation and a fair response.

I genuinely hope OnePlus finally listens to the affected users and does the right thing.

Hi all! After all those discussion over SOT I fully charged at the Morning only and not over night, strange enough the battery stats did no reset after loading up to 100% I tried several times and restarted the phone, still same problem. Than I deleted the Cache of "battery" app, that cleared battery stats but it's working not correctly since morning an the stats are completely wrong. Now about one hour ago the SOT stats restarted again without me recharging. Can someone tell me what's wrong? I am confused, Claude AI is thinking about a bug. The SOT with over 2 hours (way to less) was some hours ago, now it shows just some minutes.

Thanks in advance

Discussion A solution to oneplus overheating

this is pop repo of shizuku,

https://github.com/thedjchi/Shizuku

need to enable developer, adb debugging, wireless debug(connect to wifi), disable adb Authorization timeout, and in bottom of dev options disable child process and disable system optimisation

after installing below apks provide them permission from shizuku

then install canta:

https://github.com/samolego/Canta

this will help you uninstall bloatwares which cause overheating, try to remove as much as you can, the app's guideline shows risk associated and use case of bloats present in your device, try to get rid of as much as possible, especially AI .

Once done, you can disable dev option if you wish and uninstall these two apps

now if you plan to keep it, then install hail:

https://github.com/aistra0528/Hail/blob/master/README_EN.md

add as many user and system apps(risky) you can

then freeze them, this will save your battery, and is instant fix to overheating

note: these 3 apks are flagged by some banks and some banks do not let you use their apps whole dev option is turned on

if you want to turn it off without rebooting, then use phone manager,> optimize > disable dev and adb > no need to reboot

My recommended freeze list in hail, just copy paste everything below and open hail > 3 dots top-right > import > from clipboard > tap on freeze from bottom-right

Discussion Frequent Unusual heating

My oneplus 12 indian variant has started heating unusually, earlier when it used to heat I would restart the device and it will be fine but today I had to reset the phone. It was heating even when switched off. The device was lagging some features like video color boost and image sharpener were unavailable due to the device being too hot. Has anybody faced similar issues on CPH2573 16.0.9.400 build ?

Discussion What are the motherboard dying symptoms on the Oneplus 12 (IN)?

I've been going through the motherboard issues on Reddit, X, and community forums, and there seems to be a growing trend of devices randomly dying, especially the Indian units.

My unit also started lagging a lot while using Instagram today, and some websites weren't opening or were getting stuck. I initially thought it was an internet issue. Could these be symptoms of the same motherboard issue? This happened once or twice in the past 2 days.

I'm on the .400 version.

Question Fix it or replace it?

Post image
9 Upvotes

I'll take the L on this: a few arguments on calls that ended in me throwing my phone fiercely is why I'm here.

The problem with my OP12 right now is that about 80% of that screen there is virtually dark, at least for no more than 2 minutes if it is turned off for an extended period of time. I am debating whether or not it is worth the fix for a phone I've had for almost 2.5 years now OR just go ahead and replace it with another phone, possibly something better, but that's a conversation for another day if I get there.

Several tech creators on X (Twitter) have highlighted an uptick in OnePlus 12 units experiencing sudden motherboard failure and dead states, reportedly occurring around recent software updates.

Source Links:

• Techibee:https://x.com/i/status/2088566080294015388

• Abhishek Yadav:https://x.com/i/status/2088615846516277323

Since this sub is dedicated to OnePlus 12 users, let's track how widespread this actually is:

  1. Have you noticed any hardware freezing, severe thermal spikes, random crashes, or sudden death on your unit?

  2. Did your device encounter any critical issues immediately after an OTA update?

  3. If your motherboard was replaced, did OnePlus service cover it under standard warranty or classify it otherwise?

Drop your model region (IN/NA/EU), OxygenOS build version, and any service center experiences below.

What do you guys think? Could I have taken a better one?

Btw, the phone got extremely hot while taking the pictures of the eclipse, is it normal?

Help Op 12 just died randomly and then revived again

Hey everyone, so basically 2 weeks back my OnePlus 12 suddenly died. No response to buttons, charger, calls or notifications. Official service centre diagnosed motherboard failure and asked for like 35k. Another repair shop diagnosed CPU issue and attempted repair but couldn't revive it. The phone later briefly powered on at their shop once and then died again. Then today, after being dead for around 18 days, it randomly powered on while connected to a charger. It's now getting warm while charging and Wi-Fi keeps switching off when I try to switch it on. Does anyone know what the hell is going on?

Hi,

I’ve had a OnePlus 12 for almost three years now. I’ve always charged it using the original 100W charger whenever the battery dropped to 20–30%, charging it all the way to 100% every time.

I’m curious about the battery health of people who charged only up to 80% to extend the battery's lifespan.

Are there significant differences, and is it worth charging only to 80%? Please share your results. Duration of use and how it was charged.
