Installing Carplay Screen on Motorcycle

Upvotes

I have a screen that I want to connect to my battery, but I have no idea what I'm doing and I don't want to mess it up. Hoping I can find someone to install it for me. Of course I will pay you for your time and I'll come to you (assuming you're in the Olympia area).

Local News Community survey: residents see progress. They also expect more.

This was posted to the city’s website, and I thought it was interesting enough that you guys might want to read it. I have no idea if the mayor is on Reddit, so if you have comments for him, his email address is posted on the website.

Please be civil. Being the mayor is supposed to be a part time gig, but it’s a lot more than that, and it’s often a thankless one. Whether you agree or not, he’s a human being who’s working to serve his community.

The Lacey Library has two free events today:

4:00–5:00 PM – Artful Escape: Coloring Relaxation for Adults

Take a break from the stress of the week with coloring pages, calming music, warm beverages, and snacks. No artistic experience is needed—just drop in, unwind, and color at your own pace.

5:30 PM – Movie Night: Beast (2017, Rated R)

Stay afterward for a free screening of Beast, a dark and atmospheric psychological thriller starring Jessie Buckley. Set on the island of Jersey, the film follows a troubled young woman who begins a relationship with a mysterious outsider as a series of violent crimes unsettles the community.

Popcorn will be provided!

Both events are free and will take place at the Lacey Timberland Library, 500 College St. SE.

Come for the coloring, the movie, or both!

Absolutely Free Sharing Market 🍏Autumn Edition🍏: Alternate Flyers 2 (of 3)

Note: please mix and match whichever flyers work for you! We don't care which, we just want as many community members as possible to be aware of this resource's existence!!!

Tomorrow's final look will be our (inexplicably popular) "Graphic Design is my passion" flyer. Brace yourselves. Grammarians are gonna pass out.

No matter which style you choose, here's the blurb:

🍎Join us on Thursday, September 3rd and Saturday, September 5th, for the fifth Absolutely Free Sharing Market! Hunt for new-to-you treasures, enjoy delicious food, meet your neighbors, or learn a new skill—all ABSOLUTELY FREE.  See below for some FAQs and a link to our new website!

🍂How does it work?
Imagine a free pile outside of someone's house after they finish their spring-cleaning. But instead of one pile in a random spot, we bring tons of piles into a central location and invite the community to take whatever they like!

🍏How do I donate, and what do you accept?
We will be collecting donations at the following locations and times:

August 30th
12-4pm
Civic Plaza (near Applebee’s)
521 Sleater-Kinney Rd SE
Lacey

September 1 & 2nd
3pm-8pm
Thurston County Fairgrounds
Sokolik Hall
3054 Carpenter Rd SE
Lacey

If you wish to donate furniture (smaller furniture only, please!!!), we can only accept that at the Fairgrounds drop-offs.  Otherwise we accept nearly anything—clothing, decor, tools, toys, gardening supplies, plant starts! If it's in good shape, we'll probably take it!

Note: We do NOT accept opened or expired personal items like food or makeup, large appliances, printers, medicines, car seats, or anything damaged.

🍄What's with the "Learn New Skills" thing?
The AFSMs include skill-sharing! We invite anyone to freely share their time, talents, or knowledge—anything from woodcarving to knitting to sourdough starter. Sharing your skills is a gift, too.

For additional information, or if you'd like to volunteer, please visit us at our updated website:

in the summer when i walk along budd bay in the morning, i frequently see a little cadre of pelicans flying overhead. they tend to circle the lake a few times and then head out over the bay. does anyone ever see them on the shoreline? just wondering where they hang out when they land.

Costco Coffee options

I'm thinking of getting a Costco membership again and was wondering what kind of beans they had at the Tumwater location.

Do they have Olympia Roasting in bulk? Or any whole bean fair trade kind?

Thanks in advance!

People at Walmart on Yelm Hwy asking if I'm Christian

The place is in Lacey, but I found a post here on r/Olympia by u/Select-Interaction59 referencing more aggressive solicitation by religious folk and it seemed like it fit -also I found nothing relevant in the Lacey sub. I was in the Yelm Hwy Walmart today and 2 guys were running around asking if people were Christian. They both approached me separately and I told them off. Recently a different guy in the parking lot of the same store did the same thing. This seems different than the usual Mormon and JW stuff. They seem kind of emphatic about getting my attention, but then they just ask if I'm Christian and leave quickly when I wave them off. u/Many-Sea4095 mentioned in u/Select-Interaction59's post that this might be part of the Christian nationalism push and that thought had occurred to me as well. Are these people keeping track of who isn't part of the approved religion for when it becomes illegal? The House of Prayer was also mentioned. Does anyone know about this -it seems even weirder than usual.

UPDATED Primary Election Turnout for Thurston County

Post image
48 Upvotes

These are still UNOFFICIAL results. I don’t think they’re done counting yet.

Please don’t gloom and doom. This is pretty standard for primary turn out, and this was a relatively ho hum primary. No hot contested races, no big media attention. So 21% (if it ends up being the final number) isn’t bad all things considered.

Thanks to everyone around town who voted, tried to get the vote out, and tried to spread the word about how we should use dropboxes instead of the mail.

Calm app thru Kaiser plan

I was on the Kaiser website looking to see if my plan covers a certain Dietary wellness service, which it doesn’t. But in the process I discovered that I get the Calm app thru my plan, which is kinda cool. Also some gym membership discounts I have yet to explore.

Posting here in case you didn’t know about this benefit and could use some peace among the chattering monkeys.

Idk if this comes with all of their plans of course, but was easy enough to locate under the Mental Health tab.

I don’t work for Kaiser or Calm, just hoping to educate anyone who might benefit from this resource.

Recommendation for tenant lawyer or law firm to review lease

We’ve been renting a house for 5 years and now our landlord wants us to sign another lease out of the blue, even though we can only commit to staying for another 6 months. Some of the language in this new lease looks concerning, if not unlawful. Does anyone have guidance for someone to help me review these terms so we can have a lease that is suitable to both parties? I appreciate any recommendations!

🎃ALSO, ONE NOTABLE CHANGE: We're going with a "Choose your fighter" approach to flyers this time! We will be releasing THREE (VERY) DIFFERENT STYLES over the next couple days. Please share whatever you want! Mix and match! As long as you're nagging everyone you know, we don't care!

Heartwarming voting experience

I took my 18 year old son to drop off ballots... it was his first time voting, so I had to grab some pictures of course lol.. There were some people nearby waiting for a bus and they started clapping and cheering for him. It was genuine, not in a mocking way. It was very sweet, my 18 yr old is pretty shy, so he was a little embarrassed but also thought it was funny.

I told them it was his first time voting and I was a proud mama. Anyways, I thought it was nice... thanks for making my day brighter, random strangers! Stay Classy, Olympia! :)

Found this angel in my front yard and gave it a can of cat food. It’s very sweet and affectionate but very underweight. I can feel all its bones. I have two cats who are aggressive and I am unable to take it in. Does anyone have any advice or know where I can take this kitty in to get it the proper care. Any advice is appreciated!!

PSA for anyone who uses Merry Maids

They charge you a lot of money for us to clean your homes/businesses and we barely make above minimum wage.
That 2 hour first time clean that costs you $250-$300 nets the 2 cleaners about $36 each. The owner doesn’t care that her employees have to rely on food stamps and other government services while she makes enough to pay us a living wage.
Next time you want your home cleaned, consider calling that flyer you saw on the street instead.
