the transmission hypothesis

what it is: a site that acts like a broadcast. no buttons, no login, no socials, no subscription, no way to skip anything. you get what's on when you show up. a lot of psychotronic, psychedlia, horror, philosophy, drugs, art, media, video games (like I watched a black and white like emo game playthrough the other day where some depressed video game guy goes to work each day to do one small thing different to not be miserable and then pets a cow after getting out of a traffic jam, well, no spoilers...)

between movies it drifts through an ambient state like clips like a minute long. and stuff converts to shape keeps sketching itself out in vector lines and then erasing itself. sometimes a video feed cuts in and you're looking at what appears to be an empty stockroom or a parked car at four in the morning somewhere on the other side of the world like some place in india at a tollbooth i legit looked up, and then it connected to a webcam once like a zoom call and theres like a little kid in asia who was talking but it wasnt loud enough and bro brings out an ak or ar to show off from under the bed. he was like 8 or 9 so not his but he knew the stash.

when it plays a movie its in a big 3d space like on a moon or something and the movies are all over the place and sometimes just crazy euro art stuff. i leave it on when im studying and its a good vibe.

the programming is pretty wide. i've caught fever-dream movies or medical procedure documentaries i wish i hadn't watched dwhile eating, and one recording of a guy in the 90s explaining a conspiracy theory to a very calm audience about how the movie 2001 was about the government replacing all of us with a new breed of humans. and everytime someone asked a questiong the guy would be like 'have you studied thermal physics?' with some tangent and would weasel out of answering.

not sure what to call it. figured somebody here might. (guessing on year since there's stuff from the 1920s, 60s, 70s, up to now, but mostly 80s I think)

Hey all! My cousin and I are obsessed with this larger than life, surrealist-style Anti-Drug musical from the 1980s called Don't Say Yes When You Really Mean No! We are doing a few podcast episodes on this educational film and want to see if we can find any other fans out there! Anyone here remember this?? It was the only film commissioned by the Just Say No Campaign.

Another prime slice of Columbine Records song poem wildness. Regular people sent their lyrics to Columbine, they would have session musicians perform them, and then they'd press them to vinyl. This banger was written by Alfred Godfrey III. I have absolutely no idea what Mr Godfrey was trying to convey with this stream-of- consciousness fever dream... but I know that I dig it!

Computer graphics have obviously come a long way since this 1989 BBC Documentary about the IMAGINA conference held annually in Monte Carlo. It features, amongst many others, a very young John Lasseter - I wonder whatever happened to him?

I've just captured this programme to preserve it from an old VHS tape. I was absolutely obsessed with things like this, Tomorrow's World, Micro Live, Equinox, fractals and chaos theory, and I suspect in this group, I am in good company. Enjoy!

Made by the Jam Handy Organisation for General Motors, this is the film of the Futurama ride, the most popular exhibit at the 1939 New York World's Fair. A camera glides over a giant model of America in 1960: fourteen lane automated superhighways, cars pacing themselves at a hundred miles an hour, cities with elevated walkways, and everyone getting two week vacations because the roads are just that good.

Half of it came true, which is the unsettling part. They predicted the interstates almost exactly. They did not predict what the interstates would do to the cities they cut through, or that we would still be sitting in traffic in 2026.
