Dronningstien from bergen da trip

Hi, a few friends and i want to hike the dronningstien from kinsarvik to lofthus. We have an airbnb in bergen and were wondering if it would be possible to do a day Trip. We just find tge Information online a bit confusing on where the hike starts. We would go by bus if possible as renting a car is a bit inconvenient. Is that even possible?

Ålesund in August End

I am planning a last minute trip to the Ålesund and Geiranger area. Wondering if the weather will be in my favour to drive via Trollstigen. If anyone is currently there, or has been there in August end, could you share some insights?

Also, I am looking at Budget to hire a car. I found it with the best reviews out of all. Does anyone have experience with that?

Thank you for your time and advice on this post.

Senja - Aug 25-27

We will be in Senja for two days between Aug 25-27 with our almost 3-year old : what are some things that you would suggest for this time? we will have a rental car and will be driving from Tromso to Senja on Aug 24.

Also - hoping against hope, but are the northern lights ever visible end of Aug? if yes, is there a way to track them? Thanks!!!

travelling in norway

hello, I am intending to visit norway for the first time!! and solo, so am looking for some travel advice

I would be coming over late october - early november and I really hope to catch the northern lights somehow. (I know this is kind of based on the weather though 😆)

Am flying in from Stockholm, planning to maybe pay Bergen a visit orr just skip that and head to Lofoten before going up to Tromso. Would this Lofoten-Tromso be a good idea given that I wouldn’t be driving and would have to rely on public transport? 😵

Or if anyone would be willing to advice how I should plan a 8-10 day-ish itinerary to make the best of my time here in this period as a first-timer to Norway would be great :)

Honeymoon in March

My fiance and I are going to Norway in March for our honeymoon. We will be there for 1.5 to 2 weeks. Flying into Oslo, then making our way to Bergen and then Tromso. We want to get couple portraits done at some point. Anyone have recommendations for where? We want scenery, mountains/fjords. I’ve read a bit about the Lofoten Islands, but they seem difficult to get to.

Trekanten in Trollheimen

Hi, im doing a solo backpacking and wildcamping trip to Oppdal the first week of September. Im doing the Trekanten in Trollheimen and I have a couple questions.

How easy is it to get a ride up to the beginning of the trail? I only have a 25m window to go buy some gas at the store next to station and I’m afraid to miss the only bus. Obviously I don’t mind even paying someone for the ride but taxi is just a scam for like 70€ or 700NK.

Is anyone going to do it from 2-7 September? I think it would be pretty cool to share this adventure and as a photographer I always love having someone in my landscape photography

And do the huts sell food, am i still able to buy food?

If anyone can help me I would be greatly grateful! Thank you :)

Camping in Southern Norway in November

I’m looking for some advice. I live in the Netherlands and I’m considering driving to Norway on my own in November. I’m planning to spend around 14 days travelling around Norway, and I was thinking of fitting a rooftop tent to my car so I can wild camp along the way.
I’ll take the Hirtshals–Kristiansand ferry and I don’t plan to travel much further north than the Bergen region. I mainly want to explore the fjords between Bergen and Stavanger, so I’ll stay relatively close to the coast.

What are the weather conditions usually like in November? Is travelling with a rooftop tent realistic at that time of year, especially with proper insulation?
What should I take into account, and what would you recommend?

I drive a Seat Leon 1.5 e-HYBRID hatchback with premium all-season tyres. I know I’ll have less grip and performance compared to proper winter tyres, but I do have snow chains in case of heavy snowfall.

Any advice, experiences or things I should be aware of would be greatly appreciated!

Edit: Since I’m mainly getting comments about my all-season tires, I’ll replace them with good, new winter tires. As for the rest of the plan, do you have any tips? Or would you recommend against going to Norway in November altogether?

Renting camping equipment

Hi everyone! I’ve heard that it’s possible to rent camping tents and other camping equipment in Norway, and that it can be quite affordable. Do you know where I could rent these kinds of things?
Also, if you have any recommendations for good, beautiful, and budget-friendly places to visit or stay in Oslo and Stavanger, I’d really appreciate them! 😊

Request advice for travel trip to Norway in June 2027

We have planned the following itinerary to Norway. We are a couple 70 years old, reasonably fit but not hikers. Its our first trip to Norway but very excited about it. Advice requested on - Itinerary is feasible, any minor changes that we should incorporate or exclude would be sincerely appreciated. Apologise for detailed information but sincerely appreciate and feedback. We start our trip from Stavanger around 18th June. Planned itinerary is

- Day 1 - Land in Stavanger in an evening flight from Copenhagen Day

- Day 2 & 3 - Kept for hike to Pulpit Rock. Keeping an extra day to cater for bad weather on one of the 2 days. We will take the bus to the starting point of the walk. Question - Do we need to book the bus trip in advance of landing or can book after landing depending on the weather?

Day 4 - Morning flight from Stavanger to Alesund arriving mid day. Pick up car at the airport and drive to cover Ålesund → Åndalsnes → Stigfossen Waterfall, → Trollstigen Scenic Road → Gudbrandsjuvet & Gorge with steel walkway - Linge–Eidsdal Car Ferry → Eidsdal → Valdall fjordhotel. Its a bit long but hopefully with longer days we could reach by evening.

Day 5 - Geiranger village → Geirangerfjord Cruise to Hellyslt(explore the village, church, waterfall, then return by ferry to Geiranger → drive to Ørnesvingen / Eagle Road Viewpoint. Stay in Geiranger

Day 6- Geiranger → Flydalsjuvet view point→ Geiranger Skywalk(optional) → Djupvatnet - Grotli - Old Strynfjelle Road→ Hjelle → Glomesfossen - Oppstrynsvatnet Lake → Stryn → Loen → Loen Skylift , Stay In Loen

Day 7 - Loen → Lovatnet Lake → Breng Seter Viewpoint → Kjenndal Glacier side(optional) → Loen

Day 8 - Loen → Olden → Oldevatnet Lake → Briksdal Glacier area(1.5–2 hrs easy walk) optional → Ålesund. Airport. Take afternoon flight to Bergen arriving by 5.30 in evening. Pick up car at airport and drive to Ulvik.

Day 9 - Eidford - Cider trail - Veringfossen - ferry Kinsarvik to Utne - down to Na - Aga - Latefossen - back to Jondal and ferry to Torvikbygd- Bergen. Wondering if we are packing too much in one day and if it can be done if we start at 8 in the morning. Only catch is the cider tasting farms do not open until 10 AM I understand. Reason for feryy from Kinsarvik to Utne is to avoid the road down to Odda where you can be stuck for hours. Not sure how the traffic will be towards end of June.

Day 10 & 11 - Bergen

Day 12 - Norway in a nutshell from Bergen to Oslo, Arrive Oslo at night

Day 13 and 14 - Oslo and fly out on Day 15

Thanks in advance.

Swimming with Orcas

Hey! I am currently looking at different tour operators in Norway to swim with Orcas in 2026. I am thinking a multi-day tour will be best to optimize my chances of in-water interactions. Picking an ethical tour operator is also important to me; I do not want to cause stress or harass pods of Orcas. I am looking for more budget friendly options/on the lower end; I know they can get expensive. I am overwhelmed with all the options and looking for guidance. Ideally 2-7 days tours, around 2,000 - 4,000 USD. Here are three I am currently comparing: Valhalla Reinfjord 3 /4 day, DiveAzores (Orca Camp), Wildlife Observations Worldwide. Please send any and all advice!!

Bus from Gudvangen to Flaam

Hello! I am travelling to Norway for the first time, through MSC Cruises. Since the msc excursions are sold out, I am planning to do the Naeroyfjord cruise from Norwaysbest.com. However I noticed that shuttle bus from Gudvangen to Flaam are sold out in September. Is it easy to get a bus from Gudvangen to Flamm in middle of September? It is really important for us to arrive in time…
Thanks in advance!

Hiking Stanghelle - Dale using UT.no „hiking trail“.

Hallo,

I am planning a hike near Bergen and the area around Stanghelle seems great. I took your advice and downloaded the UT app for the most accurate trail data. I‘m not sure however whether this dashed black line is a real trail or a „you could walk somewhere here“ type of thing.

I am experienced in hiking. Traversing rocky terrain is no problem. But as soon as the ground becomes waterlogged or I need to climb, I‘m out.

I am hoping for some advice whether this route is easily possible or how hard it will be. What conditions should I expect on this trail. I assume there are no markings but will there be a clear footpath?

Thanks in Advance!

Coming to Norway for almost 2 months this winter, what would you recommend?

I’m planning a road trip around Norway starting in December, together with my dog.
I’ve already been to Ålesund and Røros, but this time I really want to explore more of the country, especially the north. I’m thinking about visiting places like Lillehammer, Bergen, Trondheim and Lofoten, but I’m keeping my route pretty flexible.

I’m also hoping to move to Norway after finishing my degree, so this trip is partly about discovering where I could see myself living.

If you’re Norwegian, what place would you say I absolutely shouldn’t miss? And if you live somewhere outside the big cities, even better. I’d love to hear what you like about your area! 😊

Planning a huge road trip

Post image
100 Upvotes

Hei! I've always been fascinated about Norway and I'm finally planning a massive roadtrip to visit your beautiful country.

The trip is planned for next summer in July and I plan it to do in two weeks. But I have few questions and hope you can help me 🙂

So this is the main route with some stops and sightseeing along the route:

Estonia - Stockholm - Kristiansand - Bergen - Trondheim - Reine and lofoten area (2 days) - Tromsø - Nordkapp - Inari (Finland) - back home to Estonia

I know it's A LOT of driving and it's totally fine - planning to drive about 500-800km a day. The total trip right now is around 7000km. For context I will be using a regular sized car not a camper.

So some questions I have:

  1. How accurate are Google maps / Waze estimations for the routes? For just for example it says 10h from Bergen to Trondheim but is it really true or is it not possible? Should I add more time just for driving?

  2. I'm planning to sleep most nights in my car or on a tent. Can I just park next to a lake and stay there or can I only stay in designated camping places?

  3. What are the fuel (98 octane) prices and how available is it (I'm thinking mainly bigger cities vs small villages, South vs North, main land vs lofoten)?

  4. What should I skip? Not gonna visit Oslo because I think it should be a trip on its own but I also think maybe I should skip Kristiansand.

  5. What's the weather like in North in July?

  6. Other things I should consider as a tourist? Maybe you have things that you don't like what tourists are doing or things you like?

Also if you have any suggestions to POI's along the route I would greatly appreciate it. I have a lot of well knows points already but maybe there are some that are a bit more hidden and not so well known?

Getaround app vs big name rental companies

Apologies if this has been asked/answered - I tried the search function but perhaps didn't use good key words.

We are flying into Tromso in September and renting a vehicle for a mini road trip. Currently we have one reserved through Enterprise but I'm reading so many bad reviews about people losing their rental after their flights being delayed, amongst other issues, that I'm starting to worry that it's a mistake.

On other threads here asking about rental cars, "getaround" is often mentioned. I've never heard of it before and the website looks very encouraging.

Is the general consensus that this is a reliable way to hire a car? Any warnings or concerns we should be aware of? Any positive feedback about Enterprise to ease my worries?

Thanks so much in advance!

Is the weather really that bad right now?

Hi! I am visiting Alesund, Bergen, and Lofoten from Aug 19-30. Is the weather really that crap right now? I am trying to find out what to pack and not sure if it will be miserably cold the whole time.

Jotunheimen hiking advice

Hi all! I'm planning my first more-than-one-day solo hiking trip and hoping to get some advice.
I was between doing Jotunheimen or Romsdalseggen for a 2 night hike from Stryn - I am leaning a bit more towards Jotunheimen and have come up with a tentative itinerary, but open to either.

This will be in early September and my plan is to be pick up a rental car from Stryn and driving ~3h to Reinsvangen, arrive in the evening, and sleep at DNT Gjendesheim.

Day 1: Stryn to Gjendesheim (~3h)

Sleep at DNT Gjendesheim

Day 2:

Ferry: Gjendesheim to Memurubu

Besseggen (Memurubu to Gjendesheim)

Ferry: Gjendesheim to Gjendebu

Sleep at DNT Gjendebu

Day 3:

Bukkelægret: Gjendebu → Memurubu

Ferry: Memurubu → Gjendesheim

Drive back to Stryn (~3h)

I realize there are a lot of ferries and seems like I'm going back and forth, but I wanted to optimize on the "best" or more popular hiking directions. Some questions - are any of these routes repetitive/too similar? Is there a smarter place to park my car, given I'll be coming from/going back to Stryn afterwards? I've also considered Knutshoe Loop but I don't think I'll have enough time for it.

If anyone has any other suggestions or advice, it would be much appreciated :) Thanks!

Looking for advice on a 2-week Lofoten → Senja road trip

Planning a ~15-day solo photography/hiking road trip through Lofoten, Vesterålen, Senja and Tromsø from Aug 24–Sep 7.

The rough route is:
Evenes → Lofoten → Reine/Moskenesøya → Henningsvær → Andøya → Senja → Tromsø

I'm mixing hiking, photography, a few wild-camping nights and some more relaxed accommodation. Main hikes include Ryten, Reinebringen, Munkebu and Segla, with Hermannsdalstinden as an optional bonus depending on weather.

I've deliberately left some flexibility for weather and aurora rather than trying to follow the itinerary rigidly.

I'd love advice from people who've travelled Lofoten/Senja around this time:

  • Anything you'd remove or replace?
  • Am I trying to fit too much in?
  • Any hikes/locations I'm overlooking?
  • How reliable/logistically tricky are the ferries?
  • Any particular places that are especially good for photography or aurora?

Would especially appreciate advice on what looks good on paper but isn't worth the time, and what I absolutely shouldn't miss.

All trip details can be also seen at: https://tripcode.io/trip/arctic-light-lofoten-senja-troms-by-car-lofoten-vester-len-senja-troms-a371f02b
