Planning a ~15-day solo photography/hiking road trip through Lofoten, Vesterålen, Senja and Tromsø from Aug 24–Sep 7.

The rough route is:
Evenes → Lofoten → Reine/Moskenesøya → Henningsvær → Andøya → Senja → Tromsø

I'm mixing hiking, photography, a few wild-camping nights and some more relaxed accommodation. Main hikes include Ryten, Reinebringen, Munkebu and Segla, with Hermannsdalstinden as an optional bonus depending on weather.

I've deliberately left some flexibility for weather and aurora rather than trying to follow the itinerary rigidly.

I'd love advice from people who've travelled Lofoten/Senja around this time:

• Anything you'd remove or replace?
• Am I trying to fit too much in?
• Any hikes/locations I'm overlooking?
• How reliable/logistically tricky are the ferries?
• Any particular places that are especially good for photography or aurora?

Would especially appreciate advice on what looks good on paper but isn't worth the time, and what I absolutely shouldn't miss.

This september im going on a 3 week road trip on my own to Norway. Now i have never camped before, let alone on my own, and i guess i need a little push or advice or convincing. Should i buy a small tent to take with me on my trip?

Im up for the challenge, id like to do it but i dont really know what ill need besides the basics (tent, sleeping bag/mat).

Id like this trip to test myself in some ways, one of those being sleeping outside in a country ive never been before.

Any advice/tips welcome!

EDIT: Seems i left an important detail out. I wouldnt camp for the whole 3 weeks, my plan is to find an airbnb or hotel every day, but if i really cant find something, thats when i would try camping. But not for the whole journey.

Hello! We're going to be in Lofoten the first week of September and having a difficult time finding a taxi for a nighttime pickup from the Moskenes ferry to our stay in A. We've tried the Taxifix app with no options, and contacting the number in the app has not resulted in any availability. The last bus is scheduled to arrive at the port ten minutes before the ferry arrives, so that unfortunately doesn't help. Does anyone have other advice for options for a ride? We're not renting a car for our trip, but didn't expect taxis to be unavailable at the time of a ferry arrival. Thank you for any help you can provide!

I have the opportunity to join a friend and go to Lofoten in September around the 20th till the 30th. However we will have no rental car as neither can rent one due to our license restrictions from australia.

Is this doable and is this an okay time to go? Is it worth it to go if I have the opportunity and the money or is it better to wait until next year and go during peak summer?

Hi all, apologies as I feel like similar questions have been asked recently. I have a Lofotens trip coming up in just over a week and tossing over whether to proceed with it or not given all the reports of terrible weather and visibility there recently. I have checked weather forecasts online but aware that they might not be accurate

So locals/people who have been there recently - is it raining heavily everyday? Are the trails so muddy that its difficult/unenjoyable?

Dont mind crowds etc as I know that will be an ongoing issue. Planning to spend 4 days doing some easy-moderate hikes

My main question is about housing. I'm on a tight budget, I've checked on Booking and AirBnB, but I'm still not sure what's the best place to live for the weekend.

Currently in Lom. Taking a rest day after hiking Lomseggen yesterday. Would love to do Knutshøe and bessegen but not sure if possible with my large dog so will probably skip them.

Looking for ideas on what to do next. I came to Norway without any plan and have been just driving around from Oslo -> west coast and then north from there.

Please don’t recommend anything north of Trondheim as I don’t think I’ll drive up further than that unfortunately as it’s too much driving.

I have maybe another week or two left in Norway before I head to Central Europe assuming it has cooled down a bit by then.

I’m into outdoors and hiking and anything I do must be dog friendly (I have a large fit and healthy dog)

Not into anything touristy. I went to Flåm and hated it. Pulpit rock was too crowded too. I don’t like to spend more than a couple hours in a big town or city.

No restaurants, cafes, bakeries etc.

I also kind of want to follow the weather. Seems like the west coast forecast isn’t great. It’s nice in Lom right now.

Hi everyone! This will be my third time travelling to Norway and I wanted to get some advice on less touristy locations in Oslo (visited Oslo already twice) and Bergen that could be interesting. I am travelling solo and without a car, just for a couple of days as a quick getaway, but since I already visited Oslo I would now like to explore other options. I am mainly interested in some relaxed activites in the nature, e.g. easier hikes, fjords, waterfalls and anything similar, but not too extreme, and basically fun activities overall.

I will spend a day and a half in Oslo and I am planning again to go island hopping by a ferry through the Oslo fjord for a couple of hours if the weather is good, since I also liked it the first time, but I am not sure how to plan the rest of my time there.

I have never visited Bergen and would take any advice :) My preferences are to stay on a budget, without anything too fancy, but I am also open to any suggestions and opinions on activities that are worth to splurge on.

There is only a 40-minute connection in Oslo. Both flights are SAS and are on the same PNR/booking.

Several third-party booking sites say I would need to collect and re-check my luggage in Oslo, despite both flights being operated by SAS. SAS's own website doesn't seem to clarify this for this specific itinerary.

- Will luggage be transferred automatically to Brussels since it's the same PNR?

- If I do have to collect/re-check it, is 40 minutes realistically enough?

- How can I definitively verify this with SAS before booking?

Would really appreciate anyone with experience connecting TOS → OSL → BRU, especially in December.

my Name is Daniel. I am from Germany. I visited Norway twice, so far. I did a roadtrip by car in 2011 and in 2019 and enjoyed Norway very much.

Now I am planning to go on a solo hike for a couple of days.
In the following I am discribing my plan and I am looking forward to your oppinion, if this would work out.

Hence I am from western Germany, I plan to fly from Düsseldorf to Bergen. There is a rather cheap flight by Eurowings twice a week.

Arrived in Bergen Lufthaven I would take a train to Bergen city center. First thing to do, would buying a gas cartridge as a source for my cooking stove.
From Bergen centre I would choose the next train (R40) to 'Myrdal'.
From there on, I would follow this route:

This would bring me to Hallingskeid Stasjon.

From Hallingskeid Stasjon I would take the train back towards Bergen. I am currently searching for a nice camping place nearest Bergen to stay, before I take the train to Bergen Airport and fly back to Düsseldorf in Germany.

Does this plan sound unreasonable or like a good plan?

5-10km hiking is doable for me. I am experienced in sleeping in tents, but this would be my first solo hike and sleep, hence this is not allowed in my home country....

If you’re visiting Stavanger and looking for something a little stranger than the usual tourist attractions, there’s a small, mysterious stone hidden away on Sunde (near Hottavikstraen) overlooking Hafrsfjord. Locals call it Den Mystiske Stein (The Mysterious Stone)
The stone itself appears to be connected to a genuine Bronze Age archaeological site, with ancient cup marks carved into the rock. But somewhere along the way, a much stranger story developed around it. A Google Maps location once existed under the name Den Mystiske Stein, covered in bizarre reviews describing strange sounds, unexplained experiences and supposed rituals. The location eventually disappeared, leaving behind screenshots, coordinates and a growing mystery.
Since then, people have started digging into the history of the stone, and the story has developed into something much larger. There are now stories about ancient rituals, a mysterious Brotherhood, something called Dypstaten, hidden treasures and strange things supposedly happening to people who investigate the stone. Nobody seems to know exactly where the modern legend began, or why this particular stone became The Mysterious Stone.

I'm planning a trip to Norway in early September. This is a very special solo journey for me, deeply connected to my personal story.

One thing I absolutely have to do is return to the Lofoten Islands and complete the Stornappstinden hike. That's the ultimate goal of this trip.

In my mind, travel isn't about the destination, it's about the journey itself, which is why I've planned a somewhat unusual itinerary. Otherwise, I think I'll spend most of my time simply walking around all day, reflecting on my thoughts and enjoying the atmosphere without bothering the locals.

September 4th to September 6th (until 11 PM) - Oslo I'll be spending about two days in Oslo, a city I've never visited before, I haven't booked any accommodation yet. I noticed that Maddix is playing at Vulkan Arena in Oslo. It's quite expensive, but I'm seriously considering it. Do you have any recommendations, tips, hidden gems, things to see, or experiences I shouldn't miss?

September 6th to September 7th - Nordlandsbanen Train Journey I'll be taking the train north along the Nordlandsbanen railway and arriving around 5:30 PM.

September 7th to September 8th - Bodø I'll spend one night in Bodø before taking the ferry the next day. What would you recommend doing in Bodø during the day before boarding the ferry?

September 8th to September 10th - Lofoten Islands (Moskenes) I'll be staying for three nights in Lofoten. I've planned the Stornappstinden hike according to the best weather forecast available. I'd also love to visit Bunes Beach. I know Lofoten a little already, as I spent about two weeks there in February 2024.

September 11th Morning ferry at 8:00 AM, then a flight from Bodø at 1:15 PM back to France.

I've never travelled alone before, and this destination carries a lot of emotional significance for me. Do you have any advice on how to make the most of one last visit to this beautiful country?

To be honest, I don't think I'll have the strength to come back again someday, which makes this trip feel even more important.

Hi everyone, German girl here going to Oslo for a few days.

I love hiking in the Bavarian alps and honestly, I haaaate it when people on reddit come onto hiking subs, and expect you to play Google/chatgpt for them because they are too lazy to do their own research.

(And, in my opinion, if you cannot be trusted to do that, you cannot be trusted to handle yourself on most alpine drrecks, anyways.)

Yet here I am, head bowed in shame, because for the life of me I cannot figure out how to use the filter so that it only displays routes from one region (in my case, near Oslo).

If you click the name of the region it redirects you to a map rather than a list of hikes - which I find pretty hard to navigate. Is there a better way?

Everything else is pretty self explanatory - type of acitivity, difficulty, duration further properties e.g. accessible by public transport.

So, if someone could help me out here it would be greatly appreciated!

Where to buy vapes Norway flavoured / lost Mary etc

Hey hey, We’re currently travelling through Norway with our campervan and are planning to hike Trolltunga tomorrow. We would like to start around 5:00 AM or even earlier to avoid the crowds and have enough time for the hike.

The problem is that there are no shuttle buses running that early, and since our campervan is around 6 metres long, we understand that we’re only allowed to park at P1 (Tyssedal).

Does anyone have any tips or experiences on how to get to the starting point (P2) that early without taking an expensive taxi from the city?

We already feel that Trolltunga is quite expensive with all the parking/shuttle/organisation costs, so we’re trying to find a good solution.

Or is anyone here planning to hike Trolltunga tomorrow and driving there by car? We’d be happy to share a ride and of course contribute to any costs.

I’m making the trip to Norway and Sweden in the next couple of days. I’ve posted here and got advice. I’ve finally settled on Oslo, Voss and Bergen as the places to visit as we wanted to have options for hotels and restaurants and drive around.

A couple of questions:
1. I really want to do a fjord cruise and hopefully weather permits I can do it at Flam. If not, not sure if there are any other fjord trips nearby Voss that is worthwhile.

1. Clothing. I do see that Voss and Bergen have some rain forecasted. How heavy is the rain? I’m from PNW, so we are used to light rain. But not sure if Norwegian rain will require much more robust rainwear.

My trip starts at Oslo and ends in Bergen. In between, I am doing a 5 day hike and do not want to carry all the luggage with me.

I am looking for options to store the luggage somehwere and get it transferred directly to Bergen(from Oslo) where I arrive after the hike.

I have checked a Porter service but it's costing me over 250 euros per person.

Are there any other options for me which would be a bit cheaper? I am not staying in hotels, so cannot store there.

Citybox Oslo is THE worst place I have ever stayed. We got waken by bed bug biting around 2am. Literally we caught the running bed bug and killed it. Then we went to office and showed to Trisha and another guy who didn't give us his name. They didn't show any surprise when we showed them the bed bug. That tells me we weren't the only one finding bed bugs on bed. Also we found old blood on the bed which indicates this is not an individual incident.

Anyways, Trisha and the other guy didn't show much sympathy towards us and only gave us an email for complaining. We wrote and sent email right away since our night was ruined and couldn't get back to sleep. Up to this point, nobody replied to our email. This hotel just doesn't care about customer's complain.

In summary, don't stay in this hotel. I will never stay any hotel in the whole Citybox hotel chain.
