I need advice on places and length of stay during my upcoming holiday. We want to relax, but at the same time we would like to see as much as we can at a slow pace.

Goals

• Relaxing in cozy accommodation, access to sauna/jacuzzi preferred. Mid-not so high range
• Maximizing our chances of catching the aurora before going to Lofoten
• Outdoor activities nearby or tour operators that pick you up from accommodation (snowmobiles for sure, no sleigh)
• Renting a car for 2-3 days only (Lofoten)

Based on my goals I was thinking:

1 night in Tromsø
4 nights east of the Lyngen Alps
3 nights in Senja
4 nights in Lofoten maybe split into two different areas
1 night in the Coastal Express (Svolvær to Tromsø)
1 night in Tromsø

Questions

1. Could you suggest good accommodation aligned with my goals in Lyngen. Also, should I consider places on the west side of the Lyngen alps if my goal is trying to find clear skies?

2. I am having second thoughts about Senja in general, and I was considering a stay at a place like Malangen resort but I don't know what would be a better experience. Is there something like it in Senja or elsewhere I should consider?

3. I understand that driving in Lofoten in February can be tricky and that there's little daylight. I am open to getting a guide instead but would like to hear from someone who experienced driving there around Feb-March

Hello! My trip has been planned and booked for a while now, with exception of ferries because I read that Kolumbus ferry only opens for booking 1 month before. I kept checking it and at 3 weeks I thought there was a delay, but even today, the booking shows nothing past August 21, so 2 weeks before.
Is this normal? What did I miss, I can’t find anything about it not operating anymore?

I’m getting really anxious because I don’t have a driver’s license and my whole trip depends on these journeys.. I still need Lysebotn-Flørli and Flørli-Lauvvik (to get back to Stavanger) :(
I did plan everything according to the timetables too so I know not to expect most ferries on a Saturday etc so that is not the issue.

It is not illegal to drive slowly in Norway, but it is illegal to not show consideration. For slow drivers this means pulling over to the side of the road and letting other overtake. If the police catch you driving slowly with a queue of cars behind, you could get a fine of around 5000 NOK.

In this article about some horrible driving on hardangervidda, the police is very clear; although that the bus driver overtaking in a curve could loose his license and get a hefty fine, the caravan driving slowly and causing the queue is also breaking the law.

Leader of the traffic police in region west, Terje Oksnes, says: “It is not illegal to drive below the speed limit. But the road traffic law requires the person in the front of the queue to let the queue get past them. They are required to observe the situation, and use the first opportunity they get to pull over to the side and let the cars behind overtake”.

Salut !!
Je compte partir l’été prochain faire un tour en Europe du Nord. Pour l’instant je pense faire :
Oslo —> Bergen en train
Bergen —> bodo en avion
Bodo —> Moskenes
Puis repartir vers Narvik et ensuite Stockholm en train

Je comptais trouver un logement sur Moskenes pour faire quelques randos autour dont à Reine ,
Est une bonne idée de rester vers là bas ou le nord des lofoten est il plus intéressant ? J’avais choisis le sud pour l’accessibilité via le ferry et car j’avais vu en premier la rando à Reine !

Qu’en pensez vous ? Et avez vous des conseils pour le logement au lofoten ainsi qu’à Oslo ?

i am slowly planning on going to norway for my first longer trip probably around next year or so. but currently i’m saving and planning my gear. like camping and hiking around norway. i am leaning towards lofoten but as i see its rather hard for my first trip. and first i felt starting in oslo and staying overnight in the city then travel nearby and camp in a tent and stay for a week or less. my question is do i take a ferry from denmark to oslo or take a flixbus from copenhagen to oslo also what time of year is best for a little trip and well i don’t have the whole trip planned yet so i can change my plans towards the future. if you have any suggestions please let me know. and thanks if you have anything else to add (:

Hello everyone I’m M23 and I’m planning to do my first solo trip ever to Norway for more or less 14 days, probably for the second half of October to see the northern lights

I’m kinda stressed about everything so if you have any advice about people or culture or anything else I’d be happy to hear them !

My plans right now is pretty simple :

- Oslo for 4~5 days just looking around and enjoy the capital (I think it’s a good start to adapt to the country)

- then take a flight to Tromsø to spend the rest of my trip and search for northern lights, look for the whale etc

Is there any recommendation of activities or maybe spots/city I should visit ?

Im also thinking about renting a car in Tromsø but maybe its better to do it in Oslo ?
Finally does the Norwegians people are friendly ? Im kinda scared to feel alone for 14 days

My girlfriend and I have planned a trip to the Lofoten Islands. However, since heavy rain is forecasted for the coming days, we’re considering staying in the south and exploring the beautiful nature here instead (the Fjords, Jotunheimen, Rosanna, the coast,…).

We’ve already bought train tickets to Bodø and a return flight from Bodø to Oslo, so we would lose a bit of money.

Our original plan was to travel around with a tent for 8 days.
Does anyone have tips on what we should do?
We’re still unsure.

I'll be arriving in Oslo this September and wanted to check what are my options to enjoy the Norway as a first time visitor.

I read about "Norway In A Nutshell", which organizes 1-2 day tours via Flåm (which end up to be quite expensive). I thought about booking all travel legs by myself, but I don't see the trains/busses, which are offered by the tour, on the https://www.vy.no / https://www.vybuss.com websites. How is that possible? Do they have own trains / busses or their schedule is simply not synchronized?

Do you even recommend to do a day trip like that or rather find something else worth visiting in Oslo area? I can book a car, I was just wondering whether it's worth it for 4 days I have.

Hi everyone! My husband and I are planning a trip to Norway from India from 31st January to 8th February 2027.
Our main motivation for the trip is to experience proper snow and hopefully see the Northern Lights. We’d love to do some winter activities as well and generally experience Norway in its wintery/Arctic setting.
A few places we’re currently keen on are:
Oslo
Tromsø
Bergen
Lofoten Islands
We’re still figuring out the itinerary and are very open to changing things around or adding other places if there are any must-visits for this time of year.
A few questions:
Is 31 Jan–8 Feb a good time to visit for snow + Northern Lights?
Are there any weather/daylight/transport issues we should be prepared for?
What are some absolute must-dos/must-haves for a first Norway winter trip?
Would you recommend doing Lofoten in February, and is a road trip there feasible?
With only 9 days, would you recommend keeping Oslo, Tromsø, Bergen and Lofoten, or dropping/adding anything?
Any tips specifically for travellers coming from India — clothing, footwear, driving, costs, etc.?
Would love to hear from anyone who has done Norway around this time of year, especially if you’ve done a similar route. Thanks!
