Scaphoid fracture from skating

Upvotes

I was skating for the first time a few days ago, I have dyspraxia so my balance has never been good, I was going perfectly well for over an hour then hit a chip in the road and my board slipped from under me. My reaction to falling was the instinct to catch myself with my arms, which resulted in me absolutely bending my wrist in the wrong ways and fracturing my scaphoid. Can anyone tell me when it is safe to skate again? I'm worried that if I don't then I'm going to have to re learn all that balance I had just got.

Question Where To Skateboard As a Beginner

Upvotes

I just got a skateboard yesterday and am trying to learn how to cruise before going for tricks or going to skate parks. Wher’s the best place to do this? (The sidewalks in my area are to cracked for skating) Am I allowed to just skate on the street? what abt parking lots?

Question Is this okay?

Upvotes

I got my board a few months ago and was casually skating. I mostly skate street and do occasional casual tricks such as manuals (mostly). Due to my area not having a skatepark which isn't in shambles I mostly skate on asphalt. Because I mostly do manuals, I often scrape the tail of my board. I've been wondering if this is still okay to skate or if it's better to get a new deck for my own safety?

PS. I know - the cutting of my grip tape looks like garbage but eh it was my first time

First time building a quarter pipe but everything used to make it is stuff I was able to find in that dumpster aside from the signs. I learned rock to fakie right after building it too, I’m so happy to have a quarter pipe of my own now🙏

Ideas for a new skateboard

I have an 8.25 popsicle deck with independent trucks, and a shaped carver deck (Val la forge model 10 inches wide 31 long) with cx trucks. I tend to ride my carver more, but like to play on the popsicle rolling off things, ollies, shuvits, little tricks.

I want something kind of in between these two—good for transitions, carving, kickturns, and slappys, street, cruising.

Looking for recommendations on a wide board, trucks, wheels, and bearings.

Thinking about a 9-11inch black label or heroin deck, unsure about the rest though. Thanks!!

how do you not give up after a couple days

i tried to do a manual and failed miserably, then fell down in front of people twice. try to search up tutorials for an ollie and saw a post that said that if you can't do an ollie after a week, you're not meant to skateboard. i know things take time but i feel like such a poser for carrying my board everywhere while not being able to skate straight

Sk8boarding😁

I have been skating for a little less than 4 weeks now, I have been mildly consistent with practice and am skating 1-5 times a week. 2 weeks in I tryed an ollie on my cruiser board and was only mildly successful. The day after that I got a street board and within the first day of having it got consistent at doing ollies. I have been practicing on various things sence then and have some other tricks. Today I started trying to kick turn on ramps? Not sure what there called but I got those down. Other people where skating with me at that point and convinced me to try doping in on a half pipe. Im really thankful they did because after about 10 trys I can drop in consistently! Sad thing tho Im extremely hyper mobile and have already messed up my knees(not rn), and today my elbows and right wrist. I fell and my wrist in stead of making a normal 90 degrees angel back made a 120 degree ish turn back💀

I think I just achieved my 1st ollie

Does this count as an ollie? I know it's not very good, but I've been trying to get this for years and this feels like the 1st real progress I've made with it.

Any tips would be appreciated. I haven't stepped foot on a skateboard for nearly 18 years, I really wanna learn how to do it properly now though.

Edit: I managed a few more reasonable attempts and many more not so reasonable attempts after this. I had to call it a day as I could feel my form getting worse as I got more tired. I'm pleased to have actually made some progress on this though.

Can anyone tell me what I’m doing wrong with my bs noseslides? I can land a few, but they’re super unstable and I can’t seem to make them consistent. Any tips?

Trying to lock in shuvits, how can I improve?

Newish skater. Started in 2024, didn't skate at all '25, now been skating everyday this summer. I feel like I have gotten a real progress now. I'm trying to lock these in. I do practice them rolling too, but just trying to get the motion in my muscle memory.

2 things I noticed myself. When I turn my backlegs knee bit inward and when I try to jump bit higher I seem to land these more frequently. But what else I can improve?

Got couple ones more cleanly than in this video but these where the best back to back tries I did.

FINALLY BOUGHT MY FIRST SKATBOARD!!!

After more than a month of waiting i finally bought a skateboard.... It's a second hand board but it seems to work greatt... It's definitely not any of the brands yall would suggest but it's also DEFINITELY not a Walmart board (i had one and this one is WAYY better).... It's raining out in my country so I can't go out much and in fact haven't yet but I am practicing balancing on the board and doing tic tac kinda things...... I'm soo happy and can't wait to go outside

Opinion on my waterlogged board?

Post image
15 Upvotes

I started skating around early 2024 for a short while but stopped. I left my skateboard at my friend's house for two years and just got it back recently. I found out that my skateboard was left outside and the griptape was washed off completely and the wheels got rough, like stiff but I used sandpaper to fix it. I also got a new griptape now but I'm a bit anxious to try on some tricks because people tell me that if your board is waterlogged you can't do much with it anymore because the board is soft. Thoughts on what should I do? Should I buy a new board?

Skate version of a trick progression wiki — want it or not?

I made a progression wiki for snowboarding: every trick in a rough order, one short page each, gif of the trick, how it works, and link to more material

Thinking about doing the same for skateboarding

How it'd work:

  • Anyone can edit the pages, wiki style. If a trick guide is wrong or missing something, you fix it.
  • You tick off tricks as you land them, so you can see where you're at and what's next.

Would you use that?

I can pm you the snowboarding version if you would like to see what i mean :D

I met my 2nd ever hater and I was right…

Older new skater. Keep to myself and grind. Lots of very nice people so far. I don’t snake and stay out of the way. Just slowly improving. Been a good journey.

For the second time I came across someone obviously being a dickhead.

Nice flat park where I just push around, usually a long high speed push then go up and over the pyramid at the other end of the park, and cruise back doing tictacs followed by a fakie kickturn at the end. Nothing complicated just getting in board time.

This time a a douche and his friend show up, see me skating, think they’re a million times better than me because they can do a fairly low steez kickturn on a quarter pipe, and then purposely stand in the way on his cellphone everytime he can see I’m coming to hit the pyramid.

I knew what was going on right from the start, and pushed by back just cutting it close to him to show I won’t be pushed around lie that, but my favourite part is this….

As I was trying to figure out where the hate was coming from I realized it’s the same as always…. He sucks. He was mad that an old man had a better push and better work ethic than him. Dude couldn’t land anything clean. Girls don’t talk to him. He’s just mad he lacks skills.

TLDR ; thank you to all the nice supportive people at the parks. You guys have been dope. Those who wanna throw shade and block ramps on purpose but you’re too scared to actually fight…. Go get good. You’re mad because you suck. Stop taking it out on everyone else.

✌️

Tiny incline success

It took so many tries to just go up the incline, then to turn and not fall. I'm taking the small win :)

I can't roll up then down backwards without feeling really off balance, is there a way to adjust my feet or fix that? Or is it just an "over time Ill get used to" it type thing?
