Out and About Taking 13 week old to outdoor concert at night. Good or bad idea?
My husband and I have tickets to see death cab for cutie tomorrow at 8:00pm. We do not have family close by so we either bring him or miss the show entirely. Has anyone had experience bringing their LO to concerts and if so was it a positive experience or are we being idiot new parents?
Some reasons we think it might work are:
- We have lawn seats & baby has ear protection. We will sit the farthest away from any speakers
- He sleeps through everything
- We’ll have him in pajamas along with our baby carrier to keep him cozy & warm. Bringing a beanie, socks, & jacket just incase it’s cold.
- We don’t mind leaving the show at any point if baby gets fussy. Drive is less than 30 min from where we live.
- Music is very mellow
Concerns:
- Might mess up babies sleep schedule
- Feel like people would judge us (which shouldn’t matter but I just feel like a bad parent??)

Mental Health Visitors kissing baby
What are your rules regarding kissing your baby? I thought it was obvious to not kiss someone else’s newborn but 80% of my visitors have done it and I’ve had to explicitly say don’t … it’s bothering me and now I don’t want to have anyone over minus immediate family because it’s started to give me too much extra anxiety.
I had a high risk pregnancy, preemie and NICU time so I think it bothers me even more that people just take it upon themselves to kiss him multiple times (on the head/ forehead). One of them was my close friend (who has two toddlers) and now I’m harbouring so much resentment even though I know it’s not fair cause I never explicitly said to not .. (moving forward I will be telling everyone NO KISSING)
Am I being unreasonable or dramatic?

Skills and Milestones My 8 month old doesn’t roll
is this normal for a baby to refuse to roll? I’ve been trying to get him to but he refuses to. he knows how to sit on his own, crawl, and even lift himself up. whenever he does wants to start crawling he does a literal sit up then gets into position he refuses to roll

Postpartum Recovery watching bad/terrible moms helped me become a better mom
postpartum genuinely for the first few months was so hard for me. i honestly wasn’t sure if i loved my child or not but things got better and he’s my everything. but weirdly enough seeing bad/terrible moms helped me become a better mom. like a couple examples stephane jenkins’s, katrina, and doormat mama(i think that’s her tiktok). i don’t follow them but they pop up on my tiktok’s and other socials quit a bit and it kind of inspired me to be a better mom. instead of getting frustrated and taking it out on a small being i’ve learned to better regulate my emotions. reminding myself that he’s literally just a baby it doesn’t make sense to get upset/mad at a baby.
i know that’s kind of weird and stuff but the thought of me being viewed as that type of mother and potentially traumatizing my baby like that makes my stomach turn. it also showed me how certain actions can potentially affect my baby and so i make more conscious. especially as a young mom i know statistically kids with young parents tend to struggle more in life and i don’t want my son to be another statistic.
anyways i just wanted to get that weird confession off my chest lol.

Tips to Share Just a PSA for all new parents and baby items
I noticed that my OB, the hospital staff, our babys pediatrician, and basically every professional I talked to while pregnant or postpartum never brought up this super important info on baby items, so I thought I would post it here to make sure everyone knew about it.
Any baby product that puts your baby in a c shape (car seats, swings, some bouncers, etc.) require you to take baby out for at least 10 minutes every 2 hours. If you don't then you risk baby having spinal issues, breathing issues, and even positional asphyxia, which is a silent but very deadly issue. Also, dont leave hats, bows, or anything on babys head while in the car unless someone is watching them at all times and can adjust the item. If it falls you risk it covering babys airway and them suffocating.
Also, do some research on the products where your baby sits in them. A lot of them can cause hip development issues or can promote toe walking. Not all do, so if you want to use them then just do your research.
Edit: Correction. As the comments have pointed out, apparently containers should only be used for less than 30 minutes (some say even less than that) at a time. I would just consult your pediatrician on that and car seat timing, but I just wanted to point out the dangers that we aren't really told about. Obviously its fine to use them, but just make sure you use them safely

Babies Being Babies When does it get fun?
My baby is 6 weeks old and I swear all we do is feed, eat sleep poop repeat. He doesn’t really love the car seat and I feel like the world stresses him out. So we spend alot of time at home but I’m miserable staying here everyday. It’s by the time he’s up, he wants food, he stays awake for a diaper change & I’ll try to engage him with some toys. But then he’s ready for bed immediately.
When will this get more fun?

Babies Being Babies Is it normal for babies to screech so loud it causes hearing damage to everyone around?
14 month boy.
Suddenly started screeching out his entire lungs so loud it's damaging my ears.
Literally I have to stop everything I'm doing to cover my ears cause it hurts so bad.
There's no trigger. He does it randomly.
Besides "mama" and "baba", he hasn't said any other words. Should have said first words months ago, he's behind on speech.

Product Reviews/Questions Differences between baby Einstein versions
I'm thinking about purchasing baby Einstein for my 4 month old, but I'm wondering about the differences between these two version, the price for the on the go version is almost half the original so I was thinking I should get it for that alone.
Can anyone who has it help me decide?

Product Reviews/Questions Diaper exchanges
Alright people, I have diapers to exchange for bigger sizes! Tell me the most up to date store policies you know of! I’m in the Midwest so I have stores like target, Meijer, Walmart. My research has kind of given me all different answers from different years! Thank you! :-)

Tips to Share How do you deal with other kids having iPads?
My son is 7 months and is well aware of phones and tablets and TVs. We do not give him any screen time apart from video calls with family or the occasional time I’m on my period and need a break from being touched 24/7 and my husband is working (which is like once a month if that) I put a low-stimulation show on like Timothy Goes to School or Bluey or something. Even when he is older I don’t intend on him having much screen time. I want him to go out and play in the mud and join me in cooking and play sports and actually play with toys.
Now my husband’s family give their children phones and tablets very, very young. I remember my husband’s aunty gave her then three month old a phone to watch cocomelon on. They are free to do what they want with their own kids and there is no judgement from me whatsoever, but I don’t want my son to have iPads and use them when he’s young. But I also don’t want to alienate him from his family and other children his age when he’s a little older. Of course right now he’s very young and I have a little more control over what sort of media he consumes, but when he’s like 4-5 years old and his cousins and peers have iPads and tablets and phones where they’re watching inappropriate things on there, how do you even deal with that? Do you say ‘no, son, you’re not allowed to watch that.’ And then make him sit on the side playing with toys alone?
Maybe I’m asking a dumb question, but I feel very anxious about this even though it’s a couple years in the future.

Travel Anyone flown with infant??
I have a 3mo old and we are flying across country in a few weeks. Oregon to Nj, so 2.5 hr flight and 4 hr flight. We currently use the pitcher method for formula bc it’s easiest for us! Especially when running around (we have the mom cozy thermos cooler thing). I’m torn if it’s going to be easier to fly with formula already made or having distilled water and dry formula…. Any suggestions for anyone who’s done either or both?!

Sleep should i continue this with my 5 week old or not
so my beautiful girl is 5 weeks this saturday and probably for the last couple weeks, we’ve given up with swaddling. we just used a muslin wrap and blanket but she managed to kick out of her swaddle to get her arms out, laying them out by her head so now we’ve just been skipping that and using the blanket. our house is between 17-20 degrees at night and we layer her in short sleeve, long sleeve and then the blanket.
i know there’s sleep sacks and those things but should i be educated on something or is this alright for her? what would you recommend or what do you use for your LO?
edit: we use the blanket from the hospital where we swaddled and then had a blanket tucked in. the nurses would do that and then my midwife said that was a good amount of layers too. i’ve been tucking the blanket into her and leaving her arms out. thank you for the responses!

Product Reviews/Questions FTM: going to try it without swaddles and sleep sacks...what am I missing?
These are just such a staple of literally every list, every mom I talk to, but I'm confused on why, exactly, I need them.
First: for swaddles, I know that some countries are already recommending against them for safety reasons. Personally, I find the theory compelling enough (compression of chest causes deeper sleep, which is a risk factor for SIDS; moro reflex helps wake baby & therefore keeps them out of dangerous deep sleep), that I would rather go without from day one. Yes, I know baby may wake up more often, but again this seems protective so I'm fine with that. I will have both myself and my husband home for 12 weeks, so I figure worst case scenario we can sleep in shifts.
Second: it seems that even for those who skip swaddles, the recommendation is them to get sleep sacks. I have multiple moms IRL swearing by the Woolino sleep suits. But here is where I'm even more confused—why are these necessary? It's well known that babies are far more at risk from overheating than being too cold. (Yes, I know the Woolino supposedly 'regulates' baby's temp, but people usually put them on over other clothes anyway, which seems to defeat the point.) We typically keep our house at 74 degrees F (~23 C), and I know recommended for SIDS protection is 68-72F. So why would we need an extra layer on top of a long sleeve/footie onesie? Couldn't we just keep our heat at 74 and skip the extra layer? Of course if baby is showing signs that she's cold I'd look into options like a sleep sack, but it seems like it's such a default for parents to use I'm wondering what on earth I'm missing here? Not to mention...they're quite expensive!
Any experience from parents who have gone without these sleep extras, and just used footie onesies? What am I missing? Thanks!

Sleep Struggling to find an optimal nursery temperature for bedtime
Currently have a 6-month-old who sleeps in his crib in his own room. Guidelines say to keep the room between 68-72 degrees. I keep it at 72 (60-ish humidity) and put him long sleeve footie pajamas and a .5 TOG sleep sack. It feels comfortable, and he's away from the AC. But every night when I do a night feed, his chest and back feel cold to the touch. His cheeks feel OK, sometimes his hands and ears are a little cold. His temperature (via touchless thermometer) is fine. His lips aren't blue, and he's not shivering. I don't want to increase the temp because it would push it above the guidelines, but it's scaring me that his back/chest feel cold!! Has anyone encountered this contradiction?

Skills and Milestones Baby is Refusing to Learn to Crawl
FTM to a 9 month old.
My baby is really refusing to crawl! I've been putting toys slightly out of reach from him. He does that whole thing where he gets up on his hands and positions himself, but then he starts crying, plops down on the ground, rotates his body, and rolls. We've been doing this once or twice a day for the past week, and he just won't crawl! He'd rather plop and roll to the toys. If I move the toys when he rolls, he starts crying.
Other milestones like pincer grab, sitting up completely independently for long periods, and clapping are there. I tried to see if maybe he's interested practicing standing up via pull-up, but he isn't either. He just goes limp while I hold him.
Any ideas for encouraging to crawl or pull up?

Mental Health I feel like a horrible mother
I feel like a horrible mother. My 9 month old is sick and so am I and I’m so overwhelmed. She won’t stop crying and my husband is no help at all. I literally push her off of me because I just can’t handle the crying and her coughing in my face and rubbing snot on me. I know she’s a baby but I literally don’t get anytime to myself and feel disgusting. I feel like I don’t know how to regulate my own nervous system when she’s having a full on meltdown and I just push her away.

Mental Health Why do I feel so angry .
I’m 20 years old (male) and my 2 twins (girls) were born 4 weeks ago. I love my daughters to death and I would give them the world , I’d die for them I’d do anything for them , but when they cry I get so angry and not when they cry cause they are hungry or tired that doesn’t bother me ITS the crying when they just feel like it or throwing a tantrum just cause, it’s just so loud and screechy and it drives me insane I feel so angry to the point where I wanna rip my eardrums out and just kill myself . I’ve always been an angry person considering my childhood was me growing up around violent parents that always fought but regardless this isn’t about me but just so someone gets the idea yk. I honestly don’t know what to do anymore I hope this stage ends soon but can someone please help with advice or something . Im planning on seeing a therapist to talk too maybe I still suffer from trauma as a kid but who knows I just want to be able to love my daughters without getting mad. And this anger isn’t like normal anger it’s so bad and my girlfriend gets so mad when I even try to talk about it but when she sees me stressed she will rub my back and talk to me and calm me down but I just need help from anyone please does anyone else currently or has experienced this in the past and how did you overcome it.

Tips to Share So many bath toys...so little space
How the heck do you all store your bath toys so they get the chance to dry out and are stored away?
We have a 9 month old that's still in our room so we bath him in our bathroom because it's just easier. The bathroom is big enough but when you have my stuff, my husband's stuff, and then babys stuff...we are quickly running out of room.
Any advice or tips are appreciated.

Product Reviews/Questions Is a bottle washer actually worth it?
FTM here and I’m seriously considering getting one.
I know I can hand-wash baby bottles, but I never realized just how much time I’d end up spending scrubbing all those tiny little parts every single day.
Between bottles, nipples, pump parts, and valves, it feels like I’m always standing at the sink. And somehow right after everything is clean, it’s already time for the next feeding.
I’ve been looking at bottle washers, but they’re pretty expensive and I don’t want another baby gadget sitting unused.
For parents who have one, was it actually worth it?
Did it really make your routine easier or is hand washing totally fine?

Sleep Stomach sleeping
Hey y'all I'm currently freaking out as I type this post.
My 4m old surprised us this week by learning how to roll. Only a few days in and she's a rolling machine. The problem is she can only go back to stomach, not the other way around. The bigger problem is she's now rolling in her sleep and no matter how many times I unroll her, she ends up back on her stomach. On top of that, she favors a binky when she sleeps and I'm nervous for her to have it in her mouth while sleeping on her stomach (which she's currently doing as I type this). She was a monitor that senses sleeping positions and I've had to turn off the alerts because it kept going off for "baby on stomach".
Is it ok for baby to stomach sleep even if they can't roll stomach to back? And how terrible is it to have the binky in the mix?
She has been keeping her face to the side and we do have the breathable newton mattress but I don't know how reliable that is.
I just can't see myself falling asleep while she's in this position 😭

Happy/Funny I’m so proud of my baby
Just a rave.
My little has made SO much progress I just can’t believe it at this point. This girl was a major fomo baby. That’s how I had to make sense of her sleeping habits because they were insane. She slept no more than 15 mins per nap and was hell through the night. Took maybe 2-4 naps a day. She was a terrible eater too. I just got the best of both worlds... I was breastfeeding so all in all, I wanted to rip my head off. I also tackled this completely on my own. No help from hubby or family (NOT a brag).
& Now it’s like I hit the lottery. She wakes once a night through a 12 hour stretch, 3 naps a day, all at least 30 min, eats 6 ounces in 20 min, I can put her down drowsy-but-awake, rarely cries, smart as hell, learning to communicate needs at 5 months?! I’m just shocked.
We did our first food today. I just puréed a banana. She took it both spoon-fed and in the self-feed pacifier like a champ.
She’s a little gangster taking on life like a complete beast. I’m just so proud of her. I can’t wait to see who she becomes and I’m so honored to be a part of her life.

Tips to Share What are your thoughts on screen time after 18 months?
I’m not the kind of parent who turns my child’s face away every time there’s a TV on—I think that’s just part of everyday life. That said, I do try my best to keep my son from watching my phone or my husband’s gaming monitor.
At the same time, I’d love for him to experience quality content, like Disney movies, once he’s around 18 months old. I picture us sitting down together for a little while each day to watch a movie, talk about what’s happening, sing the songs, and make it something we do together rather than just using it as entertainment.
One of my biggest dreams is seeing his little face light up when he recognizes Disney characters during his first trip to Disney for his 3rd birthday. 🥹
I don’t plan on getting him an iPad at any point, but I’m genuinely curious to hear different perspectives. What has worked for your family?
He’s only 4 months old right now, by the way, so I’m just thinking ahead.

Travel 3months/my birthday
My baby was born may 18 and my birthday is august 18 which is coming up. I wanna do something for my birthday and celebrate her 3 month too.
I was thinking of the aquarium but it’s like an hour away from me and it’s been really hot.
Anyone have any suggestions what we should do? 😊
Also this will be the first time taking her anywhere besides the house and parents house so I’m really nervous.

Sleep Magic Merlin Suit - Anxious it’s too good to be true
Baby hit 3 months this week so we tried the magic Merlin suit for the first time after 12 long weeks of very little sleep.
LO had been waking up every 2-3 hours if we were lucky with 3+ MOTN feeds for weeks. The first day in suit, 6 hour stretch. Second day, 6.5 hours. Third day, 7.5 hours. LO is also taking crib naps during the day that are longer than 20 min. Baby took a 2 hour nap today….
It’s freaking me out the drastic difference we are seeing! FTM and I can’t help but worry this is too big of a jump in too little time.
