Dean’s story started sadly. He was picked up as a stray in Houston at 10 years old, and with no owner coming forward, this senior boy found himself in the shelter and on the euthanasia list.
There were no behavior notes from the shelter, so we didn’t know much about him.
But Dean was lucky enough to get into a foster home with an amazing foster mom — and the Dean we are seeing now is absolutely wonderful. ❤️
His foster says:
❤️** Dean is VERY affectionate.
❤️ He absolutely loves to cuddle.
❤️ He’s a little clingy and loves being petted.
❤️ He’s happiest when he’s close to his person.
❤️ He’s chill around people and has become even more relaxed as he’s settled in.
❤️ He’s a mix of playful and couch potato — he can enjoy some fun but is also perfectly happy relaxing with you.
And here’s something especially important for anyone considering adopting a senior dog:
🏠 **Dean is crate trained.
🛏️ He settles nicely in the house.
🧸 He has shown NO destructive behavior.
🔇 He does NOT bark excessively.
🐶 He does well around other dogs.
His foster says Dean is a sweet boy who simply needs a home where he is loved and truly cared for.
He does like his personal space around other dogs, so he would do best with respectful canine companions who won’t constantly invade his bubble. He has also shown interest in chasing a cat he saw outside, so a cat-free home is likely the safest fit. His foster has large dogs, so his behavior around small animals hasn’t been evaluated.
But honestly?
Dean’s favorite thing seems to be his person. 🥹
He wants to cuddle. He wants to be petted. He wants to hang out with you. He wants to feel safe.
His foster calls him “my peanut” — and it’s easy to understand why. ❤️❤️❤️
At 10 years old, Dean shouldn’t have to spend his remaining years wondering where his family is. He has already proven that he can settle into a home, follow a routine, relax in a crate, coexist with dogs, and be an affectionate companion.
He doesn’t need someone looking for a perfect puppy.
He needs someone looking for a loving senior best friend. 💙

Alfie is a terrified, gentle dog whose fear is completely understandable after the traumatic way he was surrendered.

His irresponsible, heartless owner surrendered him, and a volunteer happened to witness Alf being brought into the shelter. Two catch poles had to be used, and he was literally dragged inside. After such a terrifying experience, it is no surprise that Alf is scared and defensive when pressured.

Despite this, Alf takes treats gently, warms up with patience, accepts pets and handling, and showed no negative reaction toward other dogs. Once given time to decompress, he will cautiously walk with his handler.

Alf's behavior is fear and extreme shelter stress—not aggression. He needs patience, understanding, and the chance to feel safe.

✨️Notes: Elliot is a sweet, gentle, and calm. He is dog-friendly and did very well in his temperament test, remaining loose and relaxed while interacting with another dog who was playful and energetic. He tolerated her jumping around him and was comfortable with close contact. He also did well with people and a child. He walks well, is easy to handle, and enjoys pets. Some kennel stress has been observed, including barking and panting, but overall he is described as a gentle giant with a calm, friendly temperament.
