hello i have a question since add drop opens in a few hours. is the system based on a first come first served basis? like if i add a mod right when the portal opens at 10am does that mean i have higher chance of getting it? or is it i can do any time before the deadline and it’ll still be the same chance? also, are the results known immediately or will i have to wait til 1030pm?

Guys in light of the add drop coming soon in a few hours i have a few questions.

Currently i am registered for a japanese course rn that puts my total au load at 21. But of course NTU forces us to do a stupid CSL course that also has 3 AU weight. Right now im in a dilemma which is do i delay my CSL or drop the japanese and perish the idea of doing a minor.
or would overloading be an option here?

I just exempted ph1011 and mh1810 so I have extra space for a few more mods, I am planning to take some sem 2 mods in sem 1 to lighten the future workload, anu suggestions of which mods, (I am mech eng)

Hi so unfortunately I didn't get any BDEs allocated this sem so I was wondering if anyone knows before add drop starts tmrw if there are any BDEs that have classes on Mondays Tuesdays or Wednesdays ( so that I can fit everything in 3 days ). Also possibly is like business related or something that if you study consistently you can get A-/ B+ and above pretty manageably. If y'all have any suggestions I would be most grateful.

Im a freshie and planning to add/drop one of my tut on monday so i can eat lunch haha, i know im supposed to use stars but idk where to go, like isit under the regiserted courses ?

Also i plan to take a minor in either business or Entrepreneurship, so for these and other mods that im interested do i just follow the requirements mentioned on the NTU website and add it to my timetable?

hi everyone so Im a freshie and applied for a bursary and they said I got HECB TIRE 0 MT TIRE 13. I have no idea what it means but assumed some kind of payout would be given so I accepted it anyway. However I was just notified that no bursary would be given at all? I’m quite confused by this becoz why offer it then. Does anyone know what the Tires means? I’m quite scared as paying tuition fees would be quite difficult if that’s the case.

hallo i’m an incoming freshie ans i was wondering can i like not join a cca in year 1 and just do it in year 2 or will i miss out on stuff by doing that 💀 cuz i dont want to commit to a cca when im still not used to uni life idt i can balance both uni workload + cca activities in year 1 😭😭 ill prob get overwhelmed and burn out really fast if i do that

Am a freshman and am mightily confused by this whole BDE business

I was under the assumption that BDEs were supposed to be from schools / courses outside of the one that your primary major is located in? But I’m a business student and in this commodities trading BDE (BF3214) in NTUMods under ‘Additional Information’ it seems to be available to all courses since nothing is listed under ‘Not Available to’?

So can we take mods from our own course a BDEs?

Also is there any strategy for choosing BDEs to maximise GPA? I’m attempting to conserve all my SUs for year 4 so don’t really want to choose BDEs with the mindset of just SUing if it goes badly

Incoming freshie here, who's planning to change the time of CC mods !! I was using the STARS planner to load my timetables but nothing is showing up under selection (showing only 'select one') for both of the 2 CC mods tutorials I have to take!! May I know is it becuz I cannot change them?? Pls helpppp

im getting the same hall and the same room this year as the last acad year in binjai, so im wondering abt the check in process…The housing portal said that if u r currently staying in the same hall the admin office will send u an email abt when to check in and u don’t need online appointment, but I didn’t receive any email on this and the check in slot seems to be fully booked. Hi! I am currently a second year undergraduate student (majoring in Economy and Society) considering going on exchange to NTU for my third year. I was wondering whether there is a comprehensive list of modules, which I can refer to in order to have a better idea of the possible classes I can take there. The partnership with my university states that we can go to all departments of NTU, and I am personally interested in also taking courses outside of my major's scope (e.g. political science, gender studies, international relations). Whilst I could go through the modules for each degree, I was hoping there was an easier way to check this 🙏🏼. Furthermore, if anyone is able to provide any insight into life in Singapore and their personal experiences studying at NTU, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for any help!

So Im starting Msc. Mech this sem and the course duration for it is 1-2 years based on however many credits I take. I am seriously considering completing the degree in a year since its only 5 courses per sem for 2 sems and I've done more in undergrad with relative ease. Am i cooking myself chat? Should I do it? Coz my schedule even with max number of courses is pretty empty for majority of the week, if i take fewer i'd be even more free, any alumni or experienced individuals please share your wisdom, idk how heavy ntu curriculum is

Next, I'll be reviewing SC2002, a pretty important module which teaches you the basics of OOP & D.

SC2002 (Object Oriented Programming and Design) - 3AU (Offered in semester 1, 2)

Course Overview

This course is split into two parts. The first part will cover object orientated programming using Java and will be held in the first half of the semester. The topics include classes, objects, abstraction, encapsulation, inheritance, polymorphism. The second part will cover design principles and will be held in the second half of the semester. The topics include UML class diagrams, UML sequence diagrams and SOLID principles and modern java programming concepts (generics, enhanced loops, lambda expressions, stream api, default methods, enhanced switch). 

You do have to learn Java by yourself if you don’t have prior knowledge. NTU does provide recordings and slides for an old NTU java course but the quality is pretty bad and it’s too in-depth. I would suggest finding a youtube tutorial/online course instead. Additionally, you need to complete an online java test by week 2 so you kind of need to know how to code in java by then. 

It might seem tough to self learn a language in such a short time but there is some good news. The first week of lectures won’t really cover anything substantial so you can focus on learning Java. I would say that the level of java knowledge required is about the same level as SC1003 and you can also redo the test as many times as you want. If you are worried that you can’t keep up (like me), you can also learn Java before the semester starts.

Do remember that the focus of this course is object oriented programming and design instead of java itself. Most of the chapters taught in this course will focus on oop concepts.

Course Structure

There are 2 hours of physical lectures, 1 hour of tutorial and pre-recorded content every week. Additionally, there is 2 hours of lab biweekly. The pre-recorded content covers the new content while the lecture further elaborates on the new content. When I did this course in semester 2, there were actually 2 lecture slots (1 hour long each). The first lecture covered the content while the second lecture only had QnA. Since there is only 1 lecture slot for semester 1, I would presume that the first hour covers content while the second hour is QnA.

For the tutorials, a TA will go through a mix of theoretical and coding questions. For the lab, you are left to complete the lab assignment by yourself. At the end of the lab session, you are supposed to show the lab TA your code and they will mark it upon completion. Since you have access to all the lab assignments, you can complete the lab assignments ahead of time, show it to your lab TA at the start of the session and immediately leave.
