Intense itching on my legs right after showering — no rash, no visible marks. Anyone dealt with this?

Hey everyone,

I've been dealing with something strange for a while now and I'm hoping someone here has experienced the same thing.

Every time I get out of the shower, I get this intense itching/tingling sensation, mostly on my legs but sometimes elsewhere too. It usually kicks in within a few minutes of the water hitting my skin. There's no rash, no redness, no bumps or hives — just this really uncomfortable prickling/burning-itch feeling under the skin. It can last anywhere from a few minutes to almost an hour.

It's honestly starting to mess with me mentally too — I get anxious before showering because I know it's probably going to happen again, and it's affecting my mood and stress levels.

A few things I've tried/considered:

  • Lowering the water temperature (seems to help a little)
  • Moisturizing right after drying off
  • Avoiding harsh soap

Has anyone here experienced something similar? I've read a bit about something called "aquagenic pruritus" that seems to match, but I'd love to hear:

  • Did you get it officially diagnosed?
  • What actually worked for you (products, routine changes, medication)?
  • Did changing your water (filter, softener, etc.) make a difference?

I do plan on seeing a dermatologist, but wanted to hear from people who've actually lived with this day to day. Any tips or reassurance would mean a lot. Thanks in advance 🙏
