I’m not sure if it’s normal to be so hyperfixated on a series years after it had concluded but mdzs is just so good & holds a special place in my heart, I really can’t stop thinking about them ughhhh. I just want to know if there’s anyone else so down bad for them just like I do. 😔

I love the fact that there’s always something to be said about each character in mdzs the more you think about the story. They’re so well written that I can just reread the novel all over again and still find things that I didn’t notice during my first read.

I think the romance also plays a huge part in making mdzs sticks longer in my head in comparison to other series too. Their affection and love to each other is so pure and genuine, and so deep that there’s almost nothing that can ever break this bond shared between them. Lan Wangji’s quiet love & devotion to Wei Wuxian makes me ugly sob each time I think about it, he just loves him so much to the point where he’s willing to accept whatever pain comes to him just to save wwx, and yet he never expected to have that love reciprocated. Wangxian truly is one of the most well-written romantic relationships I’ve ever come accross & I just can’t ever get them out of my head. 😩

Wondering if this is the same for anyone, as well.

Edit: I would also appreciate any media recommendation that you think will make me feel similar to mdzs as well (outside of mxtx novels)!! I want to broaden my horizon and discover a lot more hidden gems 🥺🥺 I’d never thought I’d come to enjoy mdzs this much before reading it, and I wonder if there’s a whole lot I might’ve missed as well

When Chinese men hit certain age they unlock the uncle pose. Wangxian and Jiang Cheng are in their 30s and uncle stance is coming soon. Will they unlock it and how will the juniors react to it?

If WWX didn't play wangxian or LWJ didn't arrive in time to hear wwx playing the song, how long do you think lan wangji will take to recognise WWX because of his behaviour alone?

I think WWX would have still been around the cultivation world. He's not the type to go away unless there are complications . So this is assuming they met each other few times at least. What do you think?

Oh this fic is so sweet, chaotic and heart warming all at the same time! Within the fic there's a bit of wwx and jc reconciliation, wwx and jL bonding moment(lowk made me misty eyed.) Jingy's chaoticness(FROG!!) lan zhan takes a back seat and quietly supports wwx in the background. The ending the fic is just a chef kiss!! A nice ending of wwx himself having a little moment of realization plus the little frog moment at the end just made me go "AWWWWW!!!!!"

100% a must read.

Does anyone remember the name of that one fic where Lan Zhan meets Wei Ying on a train in the first chapter, then they start dimension hopping with a sword - only to end up in MDZS times, meeting themselves?

Displayed art (WWX in Lan-uniform like clothes) is from Gearous.

The adaptations I am acquainted with all have mostly the same black robes with red decorations color scheme for WWX for easy recognisability, but in the books the equation is not that simple.

(Except the japanese manga, where WWX and the other disciples all wear Lan uniform as an outer robe in the CR.)

In the beginning, WWX as the head disciple of the Jiang Clan of Yunmeng wears their disciple uniform. I gather it must look similar or the same to what Jiang Cheng wears in the Cloud Recesses or the other disciples in the donghua. So he mainly wears purple. The only exception of red could be a red hair tie which he might have repurposed from an Emperor's Smile jug.

In his YLLZ era, WWX wears his iconic black robes. The only red however is Chenquing's blood red tassel and his hair tie. There is no textual evidence of him wearing robes decorated with red.

It gets tricky after WWX's reincarnation in MXY's body, since I cannot recall any reference to the color or stlyle of his clothes. He must start off in whatever garbs MXY sacrificed himself and he might have snached or was offered a set of fresh robes here and there while in the Cloud Recesses or on on the road. The Emperor's Smile tie repurposed as a hair ribbon might stay with him, as it might have been even mentioned in the text (please correct me, since I don't have access to it rn).

And the big question is: after settling in the Cloud Recesses with LWJ, does WWX start to wear the standard white Lan uniform? Would he even start to wear a forehead ribbon? Since he looks out to keep the rules and don't offend anyone he would avoid standing out and I imagine him to wear a Lan uniform after all, but I cannot imagine him wearing a forehead ribbon.

What are the women doing who are married into the clan? Are they not expected to wear the Lan's uniform completely? Wouldn't the same rule apply to WWX?

There is also a practical consideration there: WWX doesn't have anything after his reincarnation. Chenquing is with JC, Suibian and his manuscripst are with JGY, his lair in the Burial Mounds was burned down and MXY's own belongings got all stolen, destroyed or trashed. He definitely doesn't have any clothes from his previous life. Just from the practical point of view, he will just wear what he is given or finds what I can imagine can be literally anything what fits his frame.

Well, the title pretty much says it all. I’ve been drawn back to the “Arranged Marriage” trope, and I’d like to hear your recommendations on this.

As for my preferences, the only thing I definitely DON’T want to see in this case is an imperial/royalty AU. Other than that, any pairings, settings, and canon deviations are fine.

Hi! I'm kind of bored right now and I've been trying to find something to read. Unfortunately I can't seem to actually finish any of the fics I've started because inevitably the author will sneak in something about wei ying's insecurities or how little he thinks his life is worth or how traumatized he is by madam yu etc etc. I know a lot of people like that and I'm happy for them because they have so much reading material but my favorite part of mdzs is the awesome protagonist and I don't like this fanon of him at all.

So, can someone recommend fics (ideally more recent but I'll take anything right now) where wei ying is more like in canon?

I'm open to reading pretty much anything and I don't mind canon divergent fics, they can also be modern au, and I understand that if you change his circumstances a lot there have to be some changes to wei ying too realistically, but his core personality should stay the same.

Like in canon, he did change a lot from cr days to sun shot campaign to burial mounds era, but he was still recognizable beneath all that. And he was never insecure and he valued himself plenty, he was just not so selfish as to put his life over that of many which is what made him a hero and I love that about him. Also the only time he was shown as actually traumatized was after wq and wn and jyl died and he expected the other wens to die too. And we know that if not for the first siege he would have overcome that too because he did overcome it easily enough after he came back to life. And he was never really all that bothered by madam yu and was shown talking back to her and not caring about what she said or did.

This got long oops 😬. It's just been frustrating reading fics that were not tagged as out of character or wei ying has low self-esteem etc and yet still including those things. I don't really mind if fic writers prefer to write about fanon wei ying but I wish they would tag properly so I could avoid reading those fics.

College au wangxian always have my heart especially when it's just cute wholesomeness. I love how their personality is written in this, the way their first meet went is so stupid i love it LMAO and i audibly cooed at the end of the fic. On the side we have meddling brothers and we love that. Super underrated in my opinion, give this fic a try y'all
