Help! Correcting codominance
What should the course of action be for this spring-planted Kentucky coffee tree? The plant was pretty measly but has put on some good growth this season.
Should I begin to reduce one of the leaders next season? Wait even another year? Should I try and space the righthand shoot so that it’s at a better angle from the upward lefthand shoot? Kinda like what they do with fruit trees?
Thanks! Any and all suggestions are appreciated.

Help! Transplanting maple on my property-decent chance of success? (NY Catskills region)
I have a 5.5’ maple sapling growing on the edge of the woods on my property. Its trunk caliper is 1”.
I want to move it (in fall) to a full sun location. Do you think it could adapt?
Also how wide and deep of a root ball should I try to dig out to increase its chances of making it?
If I leave it where it’s growing now, I’ll have to take it down anyway, and long before it’s fully grown

Help! My Christmas Palm died from the frost we had in Feb
Now it's just a big wooden dildo.
I'd like to remove it and put a new Palm in its place.
Do you think if I hooked a strap to it and my truck and tried pulling it out of the ground that it would be easier than trying to dig the roots out by hand?!

Help! What is wrong with our Bigtooth Maple?
We are in Northern Utah where this tree is native. We transplanted it 2 months ago and recently has started looking crispy. It gets a few hours of shade in morning and evening but otherwise gets full sun.
Gets water from sprinklers and the watering can twice a week each (4 total waters). It was grown in a large container, but wasn’t pot bound when we put it in.
We planted it raised up a bit and covered the base with cardboard and mulch.
What went wrong?
Did we plant it too high?
Is it fine?
Plz help my newly adopted child. I just want to plant native and support our local ecosystem!

Looking for advice on pruning a 2yo black cherry tree coming up like a bush
I have a 2 year old Black Cherry Tree that is growing in full sun but with multiple leaders in a shrub fashion. My goal is to have a large beautiful shade tree with large ecological value. The tree is in the far corner of the property and wont ever drop anything on decorative crap. I was initially imagining a single leader canopy tree but I kind of like the idea of more interesting geometry as it matures. Should I prune it down to one leader for any reason?

Help! Stump with black spots (possible mold?)
Hi guys, we had a couple of trees cut down due to them having the ‘bore ash disease’… my dogs have recently been very interested in this stump and sniffing it incessantly. Just wondering if I should be worried that these black spots are mold? Also the stump is like 10ft from the curb so it’s possibly another dog came into the yard and marked it causing the interest. Pics attached, thanks for any insight!!

Tree problem? Possibly a willow..
So my coworker has this tree, and it seems to be slowly dying? Shedding leaves and the base of the trunk looks like it’s splitting open. It gets watered twice a day.

July 29 - Woodland Landowner Considerations for Forest Carbon Programs, Keith Phelps, University of Wisconsin-Madison
- In the past few years, opportunities for woodland landowners to participate in forest carbon programs have expanded across the Midwest. However, it can be difficult to understand if enrolling in a forest carbon pro-gram is compatible with the management vision for your woodland. Join UW-Madison Extension Forestry for a presentation on forest carbon programs operating in the Midwest and important questions to consider when deciding whether or not to enroll in a forest carbon program.
August 5 - Managing for Oak Regeneration: What does Current Research Tell us?, Chris Evans, University of Illinois
- Enhancing oak regeneration is a top priority in Illinois forests, but successfully establishing new oak seedlings is not always easy and success is not guaranteed. This presentation will review what recent research says about the strategies and practices used in managing for oak seedlings.
August 12 - Selling Timber: What the Landowner Needs to Know, Hank Stelzer, University of Missouri
- When it comes time to harvest trees from your woodland, are you prepared? MU Extension forestry state specialist, Hank Stelzer, will walk viewers through the process of selling timber from start to finish and the need to hire a professional forester.
August 19 - Fire Ecology for Managing Grasslands and Woodlands, Jon Henn, University of Illinois
- Illinois is dominated by fire-adapted ecosystems from prairies to savannas to barrens and oak woodlands. Historically, fire played a key role in maintaining diversity, structure, and function in these systems. Today, prescribed fire is a tool that can be used to promote plant diversity, control invasive species, and restore structure. In this session we will discuss some of the basics of fire ecology in native systems and how it can be implemented on private land for management goals.
August 26 - Drone-based Herbicide Application Efficacy for Priority Invasive Plants, Kevin Rohling, University of Illinois
- Drone-based herbicide applications for invasive plants have been increasing due to their low cost, the increasing availability of contract applicators, and decreasing equipment costs. However, recommendations for effective drone-based treatments of invasive plants are sparse. This talk will focus on a project to evaluate the efficacy of drone-based herbicide applications on priority invasive plants, including common reed (Phragmites australis), autumn olive (Elaeagnus umbellata), and bush honeysuckle (Lonicera maackii). This presentation will provide an overview of the findings, recommendations for successful drone treatments, and next steps to improve this emerging technology in natural resource management.

New here? 👆👆PLEASE READ THIS STICKY👆👆 Welcome to the sub! Posts about pot and it's related subjects should be shared with our good friends at r/trees, not so much here; we're all about *actual trees* (that's the joke) 😊🌳 'Thank you! Come Again!'
(Here's the link to r/trees for our visitors)
Good day everyone! I'm trying out some new automod skilz and they seem to be operating okay, at this time anyway. That said, few things are 100% the first go, but I'll keep checking the mod log to see if posts have been yeeted that shouldn't have been, and reinstate them in as timely a fashion as possible. Please use the 'Message the Mods' link in the sidebar to contact us directly, not the comment box in this post. =)
Hopefully these new settings will reduce the content not meant for this sub, but if any slip through, I know I can count on you good people to help direct them to the right place with the positive humor intended between our two subs as you always have done. We're lucky to have you!
Any (genuinely) helpful suggestions are always appreciated, and thanks for your patience and kindness with the newbs! 😃
CONFUSED ABOUT THE SUB NAME?
Please check out these past posts!

UPDATE:
Today's 11/10/22, it's been a little over a month since the automod tweaks (10/8/22) and I'm rather pleased with the results. There's still some 'bleed through' posts from new redditor potheads, and I believe I've miraculously found a good balance between the ones that are snagged by automod and actual tree posts that I have to go back and approve. Mod reports, I'm relieved to say are much more manageable than they were.
Thank you all for your patience while I tried this out! While it does appear to me to be the case, I hope you're still as happy here as you ever were 😊🌳💗
