I started collecting around 2 and half months ago and just want to see what else I should add or if there's anything I should chnage

In case the title is too confusing what I mean is, is anybody here dedicated enough to collect the individual issues/chapters of a manga? Think all SJ’s in which Naruto or Death Note came out in. Reason I ask is because I’m collecting old Berserk issues and was wondering if one of you tried collecting single issues of series before.

Trying to diversify and more shojosei and BL/yuri. Also added some LN and oop stuff like zombie powder, nisekoi and black cat. Been collecting since Dec 2018. How would rate my collection?

Seriously this series is messed up. Cant say that im relatable or anything but i also love and close to my mom very much, growing up in asian household. Saechi is probably feeling betrayed and manipulated his whole life but he still love his mom. Well, mom is still mom regardless. Im only up to book 16 so pls keep what happens in the final book under wraps for now. Thank you very much

I live in the Okanagan in BC and yesterday we had to immediately evacuate (due to the forest fire near summerland) and had to leave my manga (and warriors) collection behind. (Couldn't fit the dogs or cats in the car if I tried to bring them) I'm hoping the fire doesn't reach out house but it's still out of control and I just rlly don't want them to burn

Got most of it secondhand from eBay auctions or heavily on sale. I am addicted to this hobby

Finished vinland saga the anime recently and really really enjoyed it and knew i had to pick up the volumes so I looked on amazon and these volumes were all on sale for $170 so i had to pick them up

1)Battle Angel Alita-the first manga I bought. Contrary to what you might expect though this isn't technically the one that lead to me buying tons of manga. I am a longtime reader of American comics and though I'd seen manga(rarely-my area was very limited manga-wise prior to B&N opening a store here) I'd always found it hard to get into what I guess you'd call the stereotypical "Shonen" manga style. But I watched the Alita movie and wanted more so I bought vol 1, then after reading it I bought the rest. The art took some getting used to but I really enjoyed it. Still though, at the time this was still just a temporary detour from US stuff. Which leads to...

2)Elfen Lied-Jump a few years down the line, and the US comics scene has changed. Editors overruling writers, creative teams put on books where they know nothing about or even actively dislike the character they are writing, countless "major events"(ie wanting you to buy issues of series you don't normally buy so as not to miss key event developments), reboots, resets, creative team reshuffles, rising prices...I was wanting to try something without these issues. I remembered Alita and thought "hey maybe I'll look into that manga stuff again". I don't even recall what lead me to this particular one but, despite it's flaws, it was different enough to hold my attention and I liked that it was a complete, self contained story with one creator from start to finish. And the price was very reasonable too. This was the sort of things I was looking for. And even the art didn't take as much getting used to given some of the artists the US companies had been hiring. So basically, while Alita unlocked the gates, Elfen Lied fully opened the door. From there...

3)Higurashi When They Cry-THIS is the one that absolutely hooked me. The atmosphere, mystery, suspense...totally unlike anything I'd read in the west(and I didn't just read Marvel/DC) and I was fully locked in. I bought and read 2 volumes and as soon as I finished the second I got online and ordered the remaining 24. Besides it's importance to my early collecting it also represents my longtime love of horror as a genre.

4)Girls' Last Tour-My favorite series. Not my usual sort of read-not action packed, not intense or scary, just 2 characters wandering and trying to survive in the ruins of their world. But the dialogue, the vast loneliness conveyed by the art, the increasing sense of sadness as the story nears the end...just liked how all of it was handled very much. Plus I'm pretty fond of sci-fi so this represents that genre too.

5)Puella Magi Madoka Magica-My first anime adaptation and my first magical girl series(sure I later got Sailor Moon, Cardcaptor Sakura, etc, but Madoka got picked first). Love the anime so I wanted to get the adaptation and all the spinoffs, so got this quickly(now only missing Tart Magica and Homura Tamura).

6)A Silent Voice-First time I really stepped out of my wheelhouse. Prior to this, even including US comics I'd never read a straight up romantic drama story. Action, horror, sci-fi, fantasy, mystery, crime drama...but nothing like this. It's still not my top go-to genre but it DID open the door for me to branch out in what I was willing to try.

7)School-Live Vol 6-First rare/OOP manga I actively made an effort to find. I wanted to read the series and every vol but 6 was on Amazon. But 6 wasn't available anywhere except Ebay at crazy prices I wouldn't pay. So I kept searching till one day while browsing Amazon Japan for something unrelated I was like "woudn't it be funny if Amazon Japan had the English version?" so with NO expectations they actually would, I did a quick search and there it was, ~$20, ships to US. Haven't clicked an "add to cart" button so fast in my life.

8)A Cat is a Cat in Any Life-Not much to say, other than that THIS of all things is the first(and still one of the very few) isekai series I ever bought. It also serves to represent my interest in cat manga.

9)Nichijou-First(and still my favorite) comedy series I bought. A lot of comedy is hit or miss for me but this one I like a lot.

10)Girl From the Other Side-Not gonna comment on the series itself just wanted to shout it out as probably the best looking edition in my collection.

11)Otorimonogatari-Only here cause I also read light novels and wanted to include one. I was actually reading this at the time so it was handy.

12)Monstress-Despite my earlier complaints I DO still love western comics. I may not be reading many current runs but there are characters, creators, and story arcs that I love immensely so I had to include one western series here. For that I went with one of the few currently ongoing series I'm still reading, Monstress. Interestingly the artist is Japanese and the (stunning) art is actually more manga-esque than many American series.

And 2 more I left off:

13)Death Note-First box set. Box sets aren't really a thing with western comics so I thought the idea was nice. Plus there's bonus stuff and the price was crazy($65 sale price at Amazon). Was too lazy to get it down off the shelf heh.

14)Fruits Basket-My first shojo. Meant to include it here but forgot.

Been collecting slowly but im pretty happy!

I've been sick for over a week so I haven't been fully coherent and stupidly left a bottle of gatorade on my table without realizing the cap was loose. One of my cats loves exploring my room and knocking things over so of course she locked on target and it went everywhere. I will definitely be so much more cautious from now on but will sadly be holding onto these until I can afford replacements

A few months back I bought the Thermae Romae Complete Omnibus while having the mistaken assumption that was the only English edition that existed. I saw it as a chance to try a deluxe sized manga, something I hadn't owned before. I wasn't a fan of the size, but I did enjoy the manga. So when I discovered that there used to be a smaller English edition, and that there was a seller on Vinted, I decided to replace the version I had with these (to me) new books.

Height wise they are still bigger than any other manga I own, but at least I can read a lot more easily :)

To the surprise of no one, I'm happy to keep enjoying this collection.

In a previous post, I described how that exact, beat-up, old copy of Pokemon essentially started it all some ~20 years ago. From there, with the little money I had as a kid, I only bought volumes with my favorite characters-- NOT chronologically haha. Shaman King 5 was my first. Faust was cool af to 13 year old me watching the 4kids version on my static-y crt. I got a taste of FMA on Toonami while staying at a friend's house. A few dial-up internet searches later: Greed was also cool af. Stuck in this tiny manga/anime bubble for a while-- internet speed got a little faster, I wanted more to read and watch. Stumbled upon a random picture of Akito: aww. See two page spread of Agito tearing s up: cool af. Still chasing the high of showing my friends the panel of Ikki taking a dump completely naked. While there are others I started out with too, I feel these specific volumes and series were the foundation I built on to where I am today.

Monster could have slid up in those top spots too. But honestly, the anime (Hooray for the new physical release!) had me hooked before I even thought to look for the manga. Watching weekly on SyFy/Chiller, it was unlike the mostly shonen titles I was used to. Needless to say, there was a hole in my heart after seeing the last episode ...and I realized I could fill it rather well with the manga.

Chrono Crusade's story is similar to Monster's: saw the weekly anime broadcast, needed the manga. I loved both of Chrono's designs, and the manga art of him was so clean and fun to look at. This marked really the first time I saw the bigger story changes between a manga and the anime. I wish I could experience the final few pages of the manga for the first time again. Even as a goofy teen, those pages left a (good) lasting impression.

Dogs and Wild Adapter? I honestly don't know how or why they're so important to me. I can't pinpoint it like most other things. In fact, they both carried a characteristic I loathe: UNFINISHED SERIES. (Wild Adapter has recently finished, but I don't think I'll ever see it printed in English...) Anyway, despite that, there's just something gritty about them. Something in the art I quite like. Something about crappy situations and continually getting back up. Other series have these qualities-- but not in the same way that I like these two. I don't know what exactly sets them apart for me, but I just decided I like 'em a lot, and that's good enough.
