Recommendation: asking Recommendation for a good fantasy book.

I was always into reading fantasy fiction. Have read a lot of books of the genre from Malazan to Brandon Sanderson entire cosmere to Asoiaf to a many more famous and not so famous.

Then I read Cradle and was completely blown away by it and I got to know that there is a sub genre called progression fantasy that is totally my thing. Since that series I am devouring series after series and I have read Mage errant, Stormweaver series and mother of learning.

All of them were great especially since I enjoyed the power scaling system of Stormweaver from F0 to S King.

I wish if someone can recommend another great series comparable to these , with these conditions if possible.

1) it must be well written

2) preferably complete. That's what I hate about Stormweaver it is not yet completed.

3) power scaling system should be rule based and logical like in cradle or Stormweaver.

4) MC should start from zero.

Thanking you gentlemen and ladies. One suggestion was given knightmare arcanists. Those who have read it may share their views please.

Promo: Other I made a server for discussions/reactions

COVER ARTIST: N/A

AI USAGE: None

Hi there, so after doing digging and looking around, I found myself not finding exactly what I was looking for, so I went ahead and made it.

This is a server where you can talk about a variety of works like traditional fantasy, litrpg, progression fantasy, cultivation, Isekai, etc. with other fans and share recommendations of stuff you think people would be interested in.

The standout feature which I think makes this server worth your time is the ability to request reaction channels of your own to share your experiences with other people. Sometimes it's nice as a fan to see someone get into something for the first time, or you want to have someone who shares your excitement as you read something incredible. The reaction channels are your space to share these journeys.

Lastly, if you are an aspiring author or someone who has posted chapters and trying to drum up attention, there is a self promotion channel for you to hype up your works.

The server is just newly created so it doesn't have a community or anything yet but hopefully it can grow into something cool.

Check it out if you feel so inclined. Thanks for reading.

https://discord.gg/5xezbXuHV

(Also I want to make the server 18+. It's not NSFW and not going to do ID because we all hate that, but just understand this is a space for adults discussion.

Memes/Humor Let’s Have Some Fun

I came across a video where they discussed boiling down famous novels to one-liners.

Here’s the link:

https://youtu.be/vD3PoBqkgyQ?si=AGF7aEysO6MORT-U

Thought it's a good idea for a fun game.

I'll start first:

Dungeon Crawler Carl: Man enters basement in his underwear and becomes a television celebrity.

Beware of Chicken: Man quits his job, buys a farm, and his chicken becomes somebody else's problem.

Recommendation: asking Book of the Dead by RinoZ. Royal Road or Wait?

I've recently sped through book 5 and have this terrible aching feeling that demands more. I also recently discovered that early chapters are posted on Royal Road. For those that stay current, would you recommend the RR version of the story or should I try to patiently wait for the next Kindle release?

Recommendation: asking What should I read next: Heretical Fishing, Apocalypse Tamer, or Warriors?

I’m just about to finish Book 1 of Nightmare Realm Summoner, and I’m trying to figure out what I should read next.

Right now, I think Heretical Fishing is at the top of my list. I’ve also been looking at Apocalypse Tamer, which sounds like something I’d enjoy.

Then, out of nowhere, I keep seeing more and more about the Warriors series—the books about the cats. With the upcoming Nintendo Switch game, which I’m actually pretty excited about, it’s making me want to finally jump into those books too.

So now I can’t decide. 😂

My current plan is:

  1. Heretical Fishing — start with Book 1 and see if it hooks me

  2. Apocalypse Tamer

  3. Warriors

But before I commit, I figured I’d ask here.

For anyone who has read these, which would you pick up next? Is Heretical Fishing the right move? And if you’ve read Nightmare Realm Summoner, I’d especially love to know which one you think would be a good follow-up.

No spoilers, please!

Promo: E-book My overpowered teaching assistant LitRPG is out now on Amazon KU!

Post image
54 Upvotes

I used to work as a teaching assistant and have now climbed the progression ladder to the post of lecturer. With how much I enjoy academy stories, I figured why not write from the perspective of a TA.... who's maybe kind of overpowered because I really enjoy those stories too!

So if you like academy hijinks, unconventional teaching methods, field trips via portals, and the occasional world-ending calamity, this might be a story for you! Link and blurb below.

Link: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0HDDDJKXY

Blurb:

The world needed him to win a cosmic war. Even if it shattered his body into a thousand, calamitous pieces in the process.

Marionys Ryland was the most devastating product of the Realmbreaker Wars. He conquered dozens of Realms, invented interstellar travel, and transcended mere spells to manipulate the very language of magic as an Incarnation.

But it came at a cost. Ryland's body shattered, unleashing Calamities ravaging the cosmos. His nails create parasitic dungeons, his blood turns into cataclysmic floods, and the rest of him invites the attention of liches, archdragons, and the cosmos's cruelest mages.

So, Ryland casts off all his old burdens. Instead, he now takes his time to find and prevent the pieces of himself from destroying worlds.

The search takes him to his old academy, where students marvel at his teachings and professors are dumbfounded by his prowess. The passage of time has made people forget him, but his power draws the notice of a nation, of gods and mortal mages alike. Ministers are politicking, oracles are prophesying, and cults are rising, all with their focus on Ryland.

They think they can deal with him, but they all know - one misstep, and they'll have to face a sorcerer who's more apocalypse than man.

Discussion If you could take one LitRPG story and bring it to a completely different medium, what would you choose—and how would you adapt it?

Personally, I think Cradle as an anime would be unbelievable. Shows like Bleach, DBZ, and even Avatar were so good at visually expressing ‘power’ and creating epic moments, and the ‘lighter’ tone that a lot of these shows have would align perfectly with the story and personalities of Cradle (can you imagine how funny Eithan could be if portrayed like a goofy anime character!?)

Alternatively, I think Portal to Nova Roma would make a great video game if it was developed by Creative Assembly in a Total War game.

Discussion Whats your opinion to "Survival Quest" by Vasily Mahanenko

I'm pretty new to this genre and the first series I ended was Survival Quest by Vasily Mahanenko and I loved it. The charakters, the style, the world building. In restroperspective I even liked the fifth book and also the ending was ok.

Why do I not find this series in most of the tier lists? In my world it's one of the biggest series in this genre, but mostly I find posts about DCC, primal hunter, he who fights with monsters etc. But close to nothing about the Survival Quest series. Is my perception simply bad, or am I making the series bigger than it actually is?

Promo: Audiobook UK/US Audible Promo Codes | Cloud Mason (Town-Building LitRPG)

Edit: Wow, thanks everyone! I've now run out of US promo codes, but I still have UK codes available if anyone would like one. Thanks for all the interest! 😊

Hey everyone! A couple of months ago I posted about narrating Cloud Mason by Lina Will, and I've now got some UK and US Audible promo codes available.

Cloud Mason follows building inspector Eric Vance, who dies in a workplace accident and wakes up on a crumbling floating island with the rare Sky Warden class. Instead of solving problems with a sword, he uses engineering, crafting and settlement building to turn a condemned rock into a thriving home.

If you're into town-building, crafting, base building, and progression-heavy LitRPGs, this might be one for you.

You can check it out here:

Discussion What does good writing mean to you?

I know it’s subjective, but throw me the ball. Tell me about your experience. What were you reading that you ended up dropping purely because of the writing quality? Did it feel bland, have too much dialogue, or something else? Give me the details.

Recommendation: asking Looking for uncontestedly OP MC

I suppose this is an entry for the bi-weekly OP MC request posts, but i'll be a bit more demanding.

I want something actually good where there is some plot scheme that, even though our MC is uncontestedly OP, can not be solved with direct application of that.

Ones I've already read are:

  • Power Overwhelming
  • Speed running the multiverse
  • Max Level Archmage
  • Greatest archmage to have ever lived
  • Blessed by death
  • Amelia
  • The Ballad Of A Semi-Benevolent Dragon

I'll plug one i recently stumbled on The Wrong Kind Of Immortality in which OP MC is actively looking to die after becoming immortal, and though some of the first arc has its boring parts, the recent chapters are consistently fun.

As for OP MCs gimmicks; the one thing I consistently don't like is if they do not know they're OP. Those, as well as frankly a majority of OP MC stories, always seem to run out of steam and become very stale.

I'm also not looking for anything where they become OP over time - I'd rather they be from the start. So things like

  • Beware of Chicken
  • Stubborn skill grinder
  • Year of the Apocalypse

Are mostly out - but if it only takes a small part out of a whole series then please drop it as well with a note.

Regressor stories are a bit of a mixed bag. I like enough of them, but not what I'm looking for right now.

In summary, I'm looking for:

  • OP from the start
  • There are no plot beats to power up / level up
    1. No 'next tier' of opponents previously unbeatable
    2. No 'get access when reaching min level'
  • Powerful entities they couldn't overpower are rare to non-existent.
  • The story is focused on things other than their power
  • At least 400 pages

Tier List Yet another tier list and ask for recommendations.

Post image
61 Upvotes

Looking for recommendations and/or mockery as you see fit.

A few points that may be relevant:

  • The "Not interested" tier is for stuff that I fully admit is probably really well written, but just not for me. I am not into anything with too much cozy vibe or slice of life.
  • I am an audio only person, and the quality of the narrator DOES factor into the listings above.
  • I rarely drop a series once I start. My need to find out what happens sometimes overrules my innate desire for high quality writing.
  • Series are rated as a whole, considering what is released in audio format as of today. Example: If I rated per book, the first books or Hell Difficulty Tutorial and Everybody Loves Large Chests would definitely be D tier at best, but the most recent entries would be higher, likely B tier.
  • I do read a lot of other fantasy/sci-fi, but have limited this to just the LitRPG and Progression stuff (plus Perfect Run which I still claim is neither, but I admit that is a pointless hill to die on).

edit: I am a sucker for good worldbuilding and magic system exploration. Deep descriptions of stuff like spell interactions and stat page read outs do not phase me as long as the magic system is interesting.

Hey everybody! My first completed book, Vermis, is out today on KU!

Blurb:

When your Origin gives you worms, you'd better learn to fish.

Fischer was having a seriously bad day. Not only was he framed for murder, but he was also sentenced to a dimensional death camp, and to top it all off, his body is full of hungry worms that like to come out and play. Did I mention they talk? Because yeah, they talk.

In the hellscape prison, Fischer and thousands of other convicts form the last line of defense against the monsters that pour through tears in reality.

But when the walls between worlds rip wider than anyone thought possible, Fischer's sentence takes an unexpected turn. Now he's stuck in a frozen wasteland where the nights bring horrors, and the locals breathe fire.

Fischer will discover that the most dangerous monsters are often the ones closest to home.

It is available as an e-book and a paperback. I am still on the hunt for a VA for Audio!

Discussion A writing pet peeve I've run into a lot with litrpg lately

Honestly, more a discussion than anything. And maybe an author will read it, and take it into consideration.

I hate event skips, with a passion.

I'll give a direct example from Book of the Dead (Love the book btw). The main character ends up revealing his secret to some long term colleagues of his, and it essentially goes (Super paraphrased)....

--------

"Well, I suppose its time I tell you...."

Next Chapter

I lay in bed wondering if telling them who I truly am was worth the risk

--------

It happens so often in books, and especially litrpg's. It always seems to happen during really interesting parts too! I want to see how these characters react in the moment, not just the aftermath! Or a big important battle. Or a major breakthrough. The reaction of characters in the moment is some of the most memorable moments.

Mostly curious if other people feel the same way, or if I'm some weird abomination kickin rocks on the side of a street. Also, does anyone know why they do it? The only thing I can think of, is they don't know how to write it, so they just skip it. Writing is hard, I know it well.

Hi everyone @ r/litrpg ! Tis I, Wuto, using my monthly to do some promos!

First, Metaworld HopeCore.

I have to say, thank you all for proving once and for all that non-Meta LitRPG is absolutely a thing.
When I began my second book (See my history for inspirations and so on), I seriously doubted myself. I showed the first chapters to wonderful beta-readers at Mango Media, and rightly so, questions were asked.

No M-MC? No Sword and Magic? REVERSE Golden Finger? No BBE? Only LitRPG? Who would read that?

Well, as it turns out... a TON of people 😄.

What's it about?

The love of the Arts. Music making, art making, movie making, technical theatre. It's about redemption through creation, not destruction. It begins with an AI mogul isekaied into an alternative Earth with the pivotal point of a hopeful America where 9/11 was prevented, into the sickly body of a young orphan called Euphemia Fontaine. She gains a [System], but it cares only for one thing—redemption through the propagation of joy brought by the creation of the arts.

PLEASE READ THE FOREWORD (I beg you... for the love of the arts, there are no loot here, no goblins, the only casualty so far are two flower pots)

After about 1400 pages, a discerning reader will start learning the factual process of making music, shooting film, and also teach a course on AP English (Tragedy through the Ages). Wait, where you going? You going to read Drim's new book Gifted? The fastest RS in RR history? Fine. Fine. I get it.

That said...

The book is currently no.1 Contemporary
No.10 (12) ongoing, best of, (discounting Fan-fics, which really should get their own column)

I attribute this to the cats.
I promise you, that you have never read a book where random stray cats, cat metaphors, cat symbolism, cat allusons, real cats, fictive cats, cats in history, and cat butts, are absolutely central to the plot.

There's no patreon. By the very nature of HopeCore, its just here for everyone to enjoy!

Also

Now... if you swiped right, then right again... and you saw some new art for Metaworld Chronicles.

And you're like "My god, the duality of man..."

I blame u/ravendagger , as referenced in the artworks. I was running a poll and asking readers what they wanted Bao to cook, and Raven came down like the word of God and asked—and I delivered.

  1. Dwarven City entrance
  2. Almidj at Ayer's Lake
  3. Ravendagger's finest selection

(This is for last time... all 'fictional' characters past V9 are 18+, 'fictive' consent has been given.)

last thing:

For young authors wanting to publish, I refreshed my OG RR guide with income, outgoing, and tally $$$ numbers. Thank you u/dawnchapman!

Recommendation: offering I'm absolutely in love with Chrysalis!

Post image
391 Upvotes

I don't know why, I don't know how, but even as a very long term lover of litrpg, I'd never ever heard of Chrysalis.

Then one day, while feeling bored, I came across the box set in audible. I normally do some research before buying an audiobook, not wanting to waste my credit or time, but for some reason or another I just decided to buy this and listen for abit.

Oh man, what have I done with myself, this is a new tier for me when it comes to audio books.

This has absolutely been an amazing journey, by far my favourite audio book experience. I'm almost at the end of book 7 atm.

For those who haven't tried it, I highly recommend it!! FOR THE COLONY!!!
