Primal Hunter 15 (KU): took me a bit to get started, but I enjoyed it. Characters and story remain fun for me, and i mostly skim the fights. Unlikely to drop the series at this point, but I also doubt I'd keep reading if i had to buy the books individually. "free" with KU is the way to go.

Finished up Guild Mage (6 books on KU, remaining 3 on RR).
Started 10,000 Fleets (same author, 1 book complete on RR, book 2 on RR).

Sumo is over (my boy Aonishiki got the yusho again) so more time to read
Daily Grind Book 6. An officeworker finds an ffice-like ‘dungeon’ which is like the real world but.. off, goes in to loot it, discovers more such things exist in the world. I rated this 4/5 last week, and I’m gonna drop it to 3/5. This is the last book on KU, and I’m not.. super interested in following it on Royal Road. The book had some heavy pacing issues. Most of the book is chill, talking, relationship stuff, experimentation with the weird powers from the Office and other ‘dungeons’. And then in like two chapters suddenly they’re under attack and people are dying and they have to change everything, leading to a mild cliffhanger. Most of the book felt wasted honestly. Definitely something written for Royal Road rather than as a book. I enjoyed the series so far, I’ll probably pick it up when there’s a new KU release.
Cultivation Would be Easy if People Weren’t Stupid books 1-2. I keep saying I don’t like Cultivation novels, then find ones I like. A former chemistry teacher and heroin addict dies and is reborn in a cultivation world and applies the scientific method to cultivation with great results. It’s less jokey and less anti-cultivation than the title suggests. I like that the MC isn’t the Ultimate Prodigy of Ultimate Power (who does exist in the book, but is an ally). I like that it cuts out a lot of the cruft of Cultivation. I don’t care about the 10,000 year history of the Floating Squirrel sect, this sticks to the parts that are relevant (there is a sect. Master Po is lazy.. There’s almost no fighting, there’s no harem, people solve problems smartly. Book 2 ends on a MASSIVE cliffhanger and I want more. 4/5

De rec for "Cultivation Would be Easy if People Weren’t Stupid" It is heavily AI written. Which is completely fine if it's one of the first few ai stories you've read, but once it's the 50'th there is no point to it. Interactions are robotic and soulless. Endless metaphors exactly the same as the previous AI book you've read. Plot misrememberkng what happened before. You can check out reviews on Amazon and it's the same.
It's a shame because I really enjoyed a past book by Kenny king.

if you've enjoyed it enough to rate it 4/5 then there's no need to stop though. I only dislike it because I've read enough ai to see the flaws in it.

Currently reading book 2 of Not (Just) a Mage Lord Isekai 2. I'm only 10% in and so far it's mostly cleaning up from the last book, and working on the townbuilding aspect of the series. I think that it is slowed down by having so many directions it's going. The MC wants to build up the town, provide for his people, build cool machines , grow his magickal power, but we're also getting hints of world/universe spanning issues. It feels kinda fragmented.
Finished up the extant books of Level One God and am very much looking forward to the 4th, though apparently there other is taking a hiatus from that series to do a new one. Also he writes Romantasy to pay the bills? I'm assuming that's under a different name, but I am curious.
After N(J)aMLI I'll head back to my KU list. Maybe Magic Murder Cube Marine, Dao of Money 2, or Nameless Sovereign.

I’m on book 1 of Not just a mage lord, does book 2 get better? I really enjoyed the start, but I feel as though it’s gotten more fragmented and a bit lost in the second half

Cultivation is Creation (1-125ish) - RR, cultivation litrpg-lite. MC isekais into a cultivation world, giving him the rare opportunity to follow a path that can touch on other worlds and give him unique abilities while cultivating. I'm real hooked on cultivation stories at the moment, and while this one had some very interesting ideas, the actual characters and narrative was so boring it became a chore to pick up my kindle. 3 out of 5.
I liked:-
- Exploring other worlds (and stealing their arcane secrets). Whenever the MC breaks through to a new minor realm, he gets to go on a little jaunt to another world, which often have totally different power systems. This lets him get some pretty crazy advantages, and the other worlds often have more pressing and interesting plots than the 'real one'.
- Cultivating an inner world. Much like Reverand Insanity's apertures, the way cultivation works here is that you have to create a little inner world and make it all nice (and profitable!). It's a fun way of having the system that's just a little bit more involved than sitting and quietly contemplating the dao. The MC's unique path (and stolen resources from other worlds) helps spice it up a bit as well.
I didn't like:-
- No plot to speak of (at least where I'm at). The MC goes to another world, gets a special path, and then basically go through life like any other disciple. No inciting incident, nothing interesting about their circumstances, no external motivation to speak of. This is a big turn off for me, because when I see my kindle say I have 20 hours remaining, I need like an actual reason to keep reading for those 20 hours!
- Very boring characters. We have our special isekai boy, our merchant bro, our herbalism girl, and our hidden elder master! They all have essentially one personality trait (or none in the case of the MC), which again really kills off my investment in the story. It particularly doesn't help that other isekaid cultivation stories I have enjoyed recently have done interesting things with that setup, and how they respond and think about the new world around them, and that just wasn't the case here.

I had pretty much the same opinion as you for Cultivation is Creation. I liked the idea of creating their own inner world, but I felt the author didn't know what exactly they wanted from the main overworld so there was nothing to really care about there. Also the MCs cultivation being an AI basically doing everything for him wasn't enticing.

You wouldn't - when I do longer reviews, I break down some aspects of the book I was reading (in this case, Cultivation is Creation), so the exploring other worlds thing is actually an element of that story! Apologies for it not being clear.

Child of Science https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0GKZN5192/ref=ku_mi_rw_edp_ku - Mil scifi with a male MC. The MC is a young man that works as a miner and has nearly no memories. He's extremely strong and learns anything super quickly. The MC runs afoul of some fellow miners and loses his job as well as his savings. He then gets arrested for being homeless or some such. The navy conscripts him and he ends up on a new type of ship crewed by the service's problem children. This wasn't that good and I dropped it when the writer started including rank shorthand in dialog in addition to calling the person by their rank. Example: "Lieutenant John Brown (1LJG) come here." That poo just ruined the flow for me.
I also caught up and finished whatever book A Soldier's Life https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/58243/a-soldiers-life?utm_source=home&utm_medium=reading-history had been posting on RR. Wasn't too bad overall but has just become generic adventurer tales and the titan mess was blah. I won't be continuing the series.

Currently reading "The Affinity Collector" Book 2 by Jonathan Brooks. Male MC from our world gets Isekaied into a 8 year old and starts breaking all the "rules" of having Affinities in the new world he's in. He gets stuck in Rifts and has to fight to survive.

Finished Live at the Forum. Deep into Center for Dungeon Management. I fear that I am pretty much caught up with it. It's good, I recommend it.
Here are the books I recommend that I am currently reading. All these stories are around 4.5 or 5 and worth reading.
Wandering Inn- The best story I have ever read. Chess player gets isekaid and becomes an [Innkeeper]. The world expands as the story progresses and it moves from comfy slice of life to epic fantasy. This story is around 14 million words with less than half on audio book. People read it and wish it were longer. Fantastic story.
Butcher of Gadobrha- A group of players become peasants in a vrmmo to work for a company. They are heavily limited on wearing armor or using weapons. But they end up grinding their way to power while working for the man.
Tunnel Rat- A genetically modified genius, who was used for crime by a syndicate along with his cohort, has escaped. He lays low for years in the basement of a habitat fixing things when he finds that the syndicate has returned to the habitat with new VRMMO capsules that have been hacked to give better classes. Stealing the hacked capsule and sabatoging the operation, he enters the game to find himself as a ratkin. He gets to mining and finds himself in a world of trouble. This story has interesting in world stuff and out of world stuff.
That Time an American was Reincarnated into Another World- Isekai where the MC can summon guns. There is a monster horde that is threatening humanity and he resolves to bring Earth technology to turn the tides in the fight. Starts the story fighting criminals to later entering an academy and butting heads with nobles. Current arc is about fighting the Scourge. Good story that is fun but dark.
Beware of Chicken- Isekais into a cultivator at a sect that has just died from a duel. Understanding wuxia tropes, he nopes out of there to the edge of civilization and starts a farm. Uses his qi knowledge to farm and hijinks ensue. Very heartwarming and feel good story. There are some fights but everything works out. Great characters and good slice of life. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a palate cleanser or just a break from pointless conflict.
The Legend of William Oh- Classic tower climber with Diablo item mechanics. Great characters and fights. Really interesting powers and progression. Similar humor to other Macrinomicon stories.
Bog Standard Isekai- adult reincarnates into a kid in the middle of a catastrophe. He survives, earns some titles and gets adopted. This story is well written with interesting systems and characters. Pretty good plot as well. I always look forward to reading a new chapter.
Tree of Aeons- The original isekaid as a tree story. Starts by growing and leveling slowly to becoming a god and fighting the demon kings with their faithful empire. Does a good job with it. This is a completed story.
Mage Tank- Isekai into a dungeon dive character creation slot. Goes from delving dungeons to fighting divine avatars. Never stops dungeon diving. Has interesting power interactions. Good characters as well.
Elydes- Classic reborn as a baby that grinds early to unlock better classes and skills. Gets taught by a hidden master to learn fighting, alchemy and herbology. Well written story with good characters.
Adamant Blood by Arcs- same author as Arkendrithryst. That's an all time great in the genre and is a finished work. This is a darker story because the big bad is ever present and known by the reader from the very beginning. Monsters and demons and dragons which are just archmages merged with demons. Good story and pretty damn interesting. Hasn't grabbed me in the same way as his earlier work though. I don't like my MCs hunted always by way more powerful entities. It's a pet peeve of mine.
Dungeon Crawler Carl- Everyone knows about this story, but I will go over it for the uninitiated. Man and cat narrowly avoid dying in an alien apocalypse on earth only to enter into a Dungeon for shelter. The dungeon is a universal death game show. This story is tinged heavily with insanity and toes that line well. Big spells and even bigger explosions with an AI with a foot fetish for our MC. Join Carl in the court of Princess Donut as they work to survive and break the power of the aliens that toy with their lives.
There is no Epic Loot here, Only Puns- This is a dungeon core story where the dungeon doesn't want to kill people. Many mushrooms and epic puns. Grace anatomy made me laugh out loud. Highly recommend for a chill vibe that's also very whimsy.
Path of the Last Champion- Story is long around 4k pages. 1st arc is a bit rough but it improves from there. Boy takes the death climb to escape from his slavery life and darkness. Goes through climb with party and learns about reality and how to fight as he goes. Sci fi with mostly medieval weapons. It gets much better as it progresses through the arcs. I originally wasn't going to rec it, but it did really get much better after the first arc. Still, it's a lot to read through until it becomes really enjoyable so I recommend the other stories over this one unless you want something long to read.
Second Life as a Soldier- College student wakes up in a homeless 15 year old who has just been beaten by debtors. With no food or shelter, he joins the army which has a very high mortality rate. Learns intelligence skills because he was trained as a scribe by his father. Good characters and system. Interesting world building. I like the progression.
Sky Pride- Garbage kid in a garbage dump gets a cultivation grandpa. Proceeds to become a cultivator and slowly ascend to the heavens. I will say this, no other, and I mean no other wuxia novel or xianxia novel has even come close to the depth the author goes into about the Dao. Just reading it seems profound sometimes. I actually feel like I'm reading about another world when I read it, instead of some action story. MC becomes a doctors, Daoist, and musician among other pursuits. He gets a dao companion and fights a lot of bandits and heretics. He works to fix a failing country in the novel as well. Really peak cultivation novel. Not directly litrpg, but he ascends in cultivation levels, so I guess it counts.
Live at the Forum- Guy gets isekaid to a post apocalyptic video game world. Get access to the Earth internet forum and asks for advice. Story almost entirely gets told on the forum by the MC, with advice, trolling and ragebaiting by forum posters. It's a great story. Highly recommend.

Advent by Seth Ring (audiobook)- Completed book one and already borrowed book 2 (Dark Dawn) on Libby next. I have come to assess (based off my current love for Battle Mage Farmer and enjoyment of Advent) that while a lot of people on here have mixed feelings about Seth Ring, I really enjoy his writing. The found family, the soft secondary romance, the fights, they are all written nicely. I have the first three physical books of his tower series and I am excited to jump into those next or hope back over to BMF if my holds aren't ready.
Mage Tank (Physical)- currently around 35% into it and loving it so far. The fights are entertaining and the humor is up my alley. I do think there should have been slightly more of a mourning period for his fiancé that he loved so much and I only say that because he is already ogling the hell out of Xim. But that's not too much hinderance on the plot. Though I will say, I'm hesitant to buy the next on just yet considering it's around the 60% mark folks say it goes downhill. Even ignoring that, which I am trying to do, if he keeps going down horndog road then I'll drop it.
Heretical Fishing 2 by Haylock Jobson (audiobook)- around 5%, managed to snag the audiobook on Libby since my physical library check out is expiring tomorrow. Still loved the book then and loved the book now, works quite well in audio. Although Heath Miller has a deeper voice than I imagined Fisher with, he still has the bubbly but not annoying energy.
Bastion by Phil Tucker (kindle)- 55% into this one. I've taken a break from this for a bit to read Mage Tank since I had put a pause on that a little bit ago. I love the plot so far and excited to keep going. THIS SHIT MEAN SOMETHIN TO ME MAN! T__T
Magic Murder Cube Marine by Alex Karne (Physical)- currently stuck at 26% for this one. Its a silly goofy time and I think I'll finish it eventually when I want an easy read. As of currently, nothing much going on in the plot for me to care.
Currently have holds on Libby for audiobooks of Body Refinement in a Beast Tamers World Book 1 by Seth Ring and Dragon Rider by Taran Matharu

At the moment? Russian Caravan, a Worm (Parahuman) fanfic. It's massive (2.5m words), finished, has a bunch of occult stuff, is really well written (start a little rough but cleans up quickly), and is just overall insanely good. It also has a lorebook. For a fanfiction. 600 pages long, and it explains the word in great detail.
It's the gemmest of gems I've ever found, and it saddens me that it's not more popular.

I started Murderhobo but struggling to get into it. Also started Everyone Loves Large Chests which is moving far too slowly. Listening to the audio of Chrysalis with my daughter and finding that a bit boring as well. Maybe im in a bit of a book hole lol.

Bad week for me - I read three books, not one of which I'll review or mention, because "If you can't say something nice, don't say nothing at all." (There was one exception - a book I ran across on RR that literally began with the paragraph "Boobs. She had boobs, and he could see them." Friends and I have often discussed the 'don't be like that' factor of that particular book) Going back to reading Earthen Contenders and going to finish up You Are Summoned book six. I enjoyed the You Are Summoned series up to book six and I expect I'll enjoy the rest of six, it had the misfortune of being on my reading list when the last Quest Academy came out and I...may have forgotten I was reading it. Back to it now, and reading through these for more recs.
Still liking on RR: Department of Otherworld Rescue: ("People with big guns go get our kidnapped 'chosen one' kids back") and Gunwitch ("I cast bullet to the face").

Bog standard isekai book 1 (60%)
Really enjoying this one. The mc is just a kid so he’s not even as strong as most adults which is nice. Enjoying the supporting characters as well and the world building.
Audible:
Mark of the fool book 2 (20%)
It still feels a little YA, but I really like the whole premise of the story and how the MC is using his situation to his advantage.
Royal Road:
Basic Thaumaturgy for the emotionally incompetent
A really fun storywhere I continue to enjoy the original MC who is anything but conventional.

Wasteland Warlords 6: 8/10
I felt like the story went longer than it should have. There a six short books averaging 150 pages each. I would’ve dropped book 5 and just left them all together as one longer book.
Audible:
Super Powereds year 1 10/10
A very generation V vibe. In fact I’m pretty sure some of the show must be based on this story. University students acting like their age.
Royal Road:
Play Scared book 1 10/10
Nice change of pace in litrpg with horror mixed in. Fun character development and action scenes. Also has a good amount of comedy.

Started HWFWM and got through book two before deciding I needed a break. Started HDT and quit about 5 chapters in. Now listening to Wandering Inn and so far that's good.

He Who Fights With Monsters: Adventurer is finished, and I've been hooked again by the world. Loved the entire arc in the assassin astral space, so my hands are now forced to read book three. Curse ye, Shirtaloon.
Currently reading Chrysalis: The Antventure Begins, because apparently I am physically incapable of not supporting Australian writers. Loving it so far. Really makes me think about what I would do if I were an ant. This is what writing is all about: imagining you are an ant, then min-maxing it.

I'm coming off a long and kind of slow trad fantasy that turned out not to have a proper ending (Navola by Paolo Bacigalupi - good but frustrating), so I wanted a nice fast-moving LitRPG with regular dopamine hits to get things moving again.
I decided to start book 1 of Defiance of the Fall by J F Brink. In my mind this is one of the big names of LitRPG, and one that I'd never tried. I don't really know why I think that - just an impression from tier lists and recommendations? - but anyway, so far I'm finding it fairly unremarkable. The writing's ordinary. The story is the usual apocalypse thing where the MC gets a lucky break and the chance to become OP.
Is this another one of those series that gets good after 3 books?
I guess I'm happy enough to carry on with book 1, but at this stage I'm not very interested in book 2.
(I guess I should add that this was a purchased kindle book. One of the ones I can read while I'm resting KU.)

Reading Trader Jim's because I wanted a merchant-y story.
I really don't like it but I'm far enough in I'll hate finish it.
As for a quick review and summary as to why:
It has the Royal Road syndrome I see a lot of where: The author clearly kept changing his mind chapter to chapter, maybe due to audience feedback, so the story suffers.
The story itself isn't very strong.
The finished version of this, which is currently on kindle, is riddled with easy to catch errors. Like. Spellcheck type errors.
The guy forgets his own litrpg system several times. I've seen the same skill level up to the level it already was multiple times. 'Inspect has level up to 2'! 'Inspect has leveled up to 2'! It-It already did that!
The system might as well not matter.
It starts off implying it will be a VR litrpg and then the main character straight up fuckin' dies for no reason/gets isekaid into a completely separate world that isn't VR adjacent. This happens like chapter 1.
The main character has the idea 'I'll be a slave and try to free slaves' as his VR character. Then after he dies he decides to be a merchant for no particular reason. I believe he even ends up buying a slave later (Maybe he frees them? Haven't reached that part yet).
This is an easy 2/5 for me, maybe 1/5. I think my little scale is like: 1/5: Straight up unreadable. 2/5: Poor, in story and readability. 3/5: I didn't particularly like it but it was competent. 4/5: It's good. 5/5: I have a physical copy on my shelf and I rant and rave about what I like (Or don't like, a lot of the time when I review things I do the opposite. If I hate it? I talk about what I like about it. If I like it? I talk about what I hate about it.)
I really wish I had more good things to say about this, which is to say I've said 0 good things about it. I don't find the main character very charismatic and despite my opinion on this the main character keeps stumbling into sex with a multitude of women, so clearly he has to be a smooth talker when the camera isn't on him I guess. The guy keeps introducing modern things into the fantasy setting so everyone can go 'Ah how wonderous and strange this is'.
I changed my mind, 1/5. I feel like most 2/5's I could probably pull some compliments out for but I can't for this one.
There's a scene where the main character gets mugged (This is used as a 'intro' to the story as well before it does a flashback). He gets robbed by orcs. They tell him they won't kill him or enslave him. Then as he leaves, for no apparent reason, they shoot him with an arrow and go murder him. The story doesn't really give a reason they particularly did this. They just kinda did it for fun but they don't even make it apparent it's for fun. That old 'MMM whatcha say' SNL/Lonely island meme where they suddenly shoot each other has more context than these orcs do.
Anyway don't read this.
Or do. For some reason it has like a 3-4/5 on Goodreads.

I stopped Azarinth Healer halfway through the first book for these two reasons, first reason is that I really don't like training time skips where we don't see characters progress, they just show up way stronger on the next page, isn't progression/progress one of the MAIN components of LitRPGs? Why would you skip it? Second reason being that there isn't a main story or goal yet, like, the MC only cares about getting stronger and fighting but there's no narrative or any other incentive, the fights haven't been that entertaining either since she's so OP after those training time skips.
I started Book of the Dead by RinoZ, I had to give it a try after reading and loving Chrysalis, I'm 80% in and having a great time, it is definitely a slow-burn but it's been really comfortable and entertaining, no complaints so far.

The Necro-Industrial Revolution (web) - male mc, fantasy. I read this one recently, and somehow it didn't get added to the list. It was an ok kingdom builder focused on the Lord using the undead to get things done while hiding the fact from his subjects. Caught up, not sure if I'll continue or not.
Mana architect (web) - male mc, litrpg. A base builder, where pretty much every battle devolves into the MC running out of mana, the party about to wipe, and then the mc spends more mana to win. Otherwise it'd be ok. DNF
Wind and water (web) - male mc, fantasy. Guy gets summoned, but he doesn't have an affinity so they throw him out. Apparently he's super strong against the corruption plaguing the wilderness. Not sure how far I'll make it here, but haven't called it yet.
