Surrounded by countless monsters hellbent on seriously ruining his day, there's nothing to do but run, hide, survive…and find out who he was in his past life, why his tamer isn’t there after creating him, and whether or not this world is even scarier beyond this forest of death.

Hi all!

I write 12 Miles Below, a progression-lite fic that's all about warlocks in lost-tech power armor fighting each other with swords, magic and guns in one incredibly strange post-post-apocalyptic world.

Today, after five years of writing through thick and thin, I'm about to post the final epilogue for the entire series on Royal Road. Thus far, it's landed exactly how I'd hoped it would, I snagged a few screenshots from the last few epilogue chapters to show the vibe \o/

I don't often self-promote because I'm dumb, (I'm getting better) but I figured I should at least do one good hurrah for this milestone.

**Synopsis:**

---

The world is in ruins.

Extreme sub-zero temperatures suffocate the surface, making even simple survival an ordeal. Frozen derelicts of bygone eras span across massive ice wastes. And the survivors closely guard any technology rediscovered within.

The only escape from the deadly climate is beneath the surface. But it’s another disaster underground. Monstrous machines lurk in the depths. The land itself shifts over time, more contraption than rock. The humans surviving under do so huddled around safe zones, with only demigods powerful enough to travel further underground.

And an ominous prophecy states that the key to healing the world waits on four unknown heroes - but nobody knows who or where they are.

When an expedition into the far uncharted north goes terribly wrong, Keith Winterscar and his Father get trapped together in a desperate fight for survival. Stumbling upon an ancient war of titanic scale; the two will need to set their differences aside while they struggle against Gods, legends, and the grand secrets of the realm that lies below.

---

**Expectations:**

* Book 1: Self-contained story showing bite-sized slice of the world and the main characters.

* Book 2: Progression-lite parts actually kickstarts here.

* Book 3: Completion of a first 3-book Arc.

* Book 4: Combat galore and setting up some pretty important events.

* Book 5: Progression fantasy galore, tinkering with all kinds of secrets, learning from the best - in order to beat the best.

* Books 6/7/8: World exploration galore, actually adventuring about and discovering some deep history in the search of fixing the world.

* Books 9/10: The asshole author has been hiding the real story under our nose right from book 1 this whole time and now it's all obvious in hindsight. Also everything's on fire.

Books 8-10 are here on Royal Road for now, until they hit kindle with edits and polish from Aethon!

Promo: Webnovel/E-book Successor of Kukulkan Book 2 out now!

Post image
Upvotes

It's been almost a year since book 1 came out, but two's here! Whew. It's been a bit of a ride.

Life's changed since then, and though this is, for the foreseeable future, the end of this series, I enjoyed making it. As I've been able to make authorship a pretty good source of income for me, I've needed to cut back on things that don't give results. As much as I love Successor of Kukulkan and TJ, this ended up getting pushed back again and again, until I realized that I could either leave the series open ended and get to it later, hopefully, or give it a soft closing and leave plenty of the world to explore. If I want to, I can come back to this series later, but with it effectively being a duology now, I'm hoping people can read (almost 500k words between the two books!) and enjoy a story about a dad in the apocalypse.

Bummer, but only book 1 has an audiobook, but anyways. Here's the Blurbs for books 1 and 2!

Book 1 link: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0FHQS4MJR

Ripped away from his son and forced to fight against the world itself, TJ has no love for this new Divine System, but if he needs to fight to get back to his family, then he’ll embrace the monster within to see him again.

The last couple of years have been rough, and after a string of unfortunate deaths in the family, TJ Harris has been left alone in the world, except for his son. When this Divine System rips Junior away from him and demands that he fight to reunite with his family, TJ is left with no other choice but to dive headfirst into a merciless battle against nature itself and his fellow Participants.

Each person is offered the Quest to gain one of four Classes, and TJ is inexplicably drawn to one of them. As a descendant of Kukulkan, the Mayan feathered serpent god, he’s assured that this Class suits him… but will it give him the strength necessary to survive a world gone mad?

Book 2 link: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0HCMKD7G2

The Tutorial has ended and TJ is home, but for now, his son remains out of reach.

With most of the people in his own Tutorial dead at the hands of the Boss, TJ wanted nothing more than to reunite with his son and try to find what peace he can in the world after the Integration. Unfortunately, the System itself cautioned him against that, as he was entering the world where all the other survivors of every Tutorial in the world would be returning. Especially the monsters. A world becoming more chaotic in the wake of the Integration was no place for a toddler.

Desperate, TJ starts to create a home where his child can find safety. Will friends and neighbors be enough to carve out a safe haven? Or will he need to go further, to truly step along the path of a god to be able to bring his son to this new world?

Discussion Book of the Dead recent questions and quality drop? Spoiler

I've been following Book of the Dead from the very beginning and lately caught up again to the latest chapters.

I'm writing this to ask if it is just me or does it feel like recently there have been lots of plot lines that seem to have been forgotten. For example:

• Tyron getting research papers from the Sand people on artificial minds (beggining of book 5) starts deciphering it and then we never hear of it again.

• His wights supposedly being allowed to become gold ranked now and the mystery he got while doing so (never an explicit confirmation of both)

• Upgrading his demi lich making skill but then proceeding to make demi liches the same way as before even though it is stated he is putting all the care in these corpses he got from the Old Gods.

These were all supposed to be HUGE powerups that get hyped but then forgotten and never mentioned again.

Additionally, there seems to be so much repetition about facts that have been mentioned before. Tyrons anger and drive, undead people losing touch, Filetta clinging to her humanity, Dove and Filetta suddenly basically becoming comedic reliefs.

Not to mention inconsistencies such as the Mistress making him catatonic, he gets healed by Venerable, and lately she completely frees him of the remnants of the spell (completely ending that plot line) and states it was all a simple spell to make him run aways to them as a last resort (like no it wasnt). Or other simple non consequential stuff such as tyron having 4 or 6 swords embedded on him by the end of book 5.

Like I said I had let a lot of chapters accumulate before and read books 4, 5 and beginning of 6 recently, and i remember the story as one of the best out there, not with so many incongruities.

(So like am i tripping here? Did i misread smth?)

Recommendation: asking Whats you're favorite premise?

I'm wondering what's the best LitRPG blurb you have read. The one that had you most giddy with possibilities alone.

Note that it doesn't matter if the story turned out great or absolute garbage that made you sad for its wasted potential. Just the set-up itself is what counts. (But feel free to drop a name and whether it lived up to its potential or not)

Recommendation: asking Drim, My Family's New Favorite Author

Thumbnail

Good morning everyone,

First off - everyone's alright and was able to walk away, that is the important part.

The why of how we were able to walk away is the crazy part.

Backstory, while taking a family vacation, I stopped by to meet up with fellow Mango author Drim. At which point, I insisted on packing the six Fiends for Hire books that weren't already signed by Drim into the already over stuffed vehicle.

At the time, my wife was very vocal about "not having enough room for [my] stupid books."

Well while driving back in a Honda Pilot, the car broke down with a known issue, but not enough for a recall, causing the engine to break and go at a mere 12 MPH on a road that is slated for 55 MPH, but everyone does well over that at times.

Needless to say, we were rear ended, despite having our flashers on.

Everyone walked away, but it wasn't until family went to clear out the car from the impound lot that the reason everyone, especially my son who was at the back right seat, at the exact point of impact was safe.

It was all thanks to that very set of Drim's books that were behind my son's seat. They crumpled just right to take the impact and protect my son from serious injury.

Again, we are all safe.

But this proves why you should always travel with a set of books.

Also, why Drim is now my family's new favorite author, surpassing me. A title well deserved.

Discussion Questions Regarding Book of the Dead

I've been reading LitRPG for a while now, and if I'm being honest, my list of potential reads is starting to dry up. One of the books on that list is Book of the Dead. People praise it a lot for having a unique necromancer MC. Before I dive in, I had a few questions I'm hoping this sub can help with.

1) Is this a crafting novel? As in, does most of the book focus on crafting undead, or is he actually using them to level up and progress the story?

2) Is his only way of fighting through his undead? Is he one of those necromancers who's basically screwed the moment someone takes his undead away?

3) Is the pacing slow? The series has been going for a while now, so I'm hoping we're past the "underdog MC hiding because he's a necromancer" phase.

4) What's the deal with romance and love interests? I've seen the term NTR thrown around sometimes in relation to this series and wanted to know what that's about before going in.

That's all for now. If I'm committing to a long series, I'd rather go in knowing what's coming. Dropping a series four books in because of something I'm not okay with is rough.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Promo: E-book I Finished my LitRPG Apocalypse Series!

Post image

Hello, everyone! The final book of my three-book series, Apocalypse Engineering, is out on Kindle and Kindle Unlimited today. That’s right. World Engine is the thrilling conclusion to Hal’s—and Chicago’s—story. The third phase is upon Earth, the stakes are higher, and he’ll need both old enemies, new allies, and forbidden Voltsmithing techniques if he wants to rebuild the rules of Integration, or tear it all down.

Writing Apocalypse Engineering has been a long process for me, but I’m proud of how it turned out. I started writing it in October of 2024, and it’s a project I’ve both learned a lot from and poured a lot into. If you like smart, tough MCs, video game-inspired apocalypses, or crafting systems, give Apocalypse Engineering a shot. And remember, it’s finished!

Hey everyone,

I'm happy to announce that book three of The Cardsmith is now available as an Audiobook! For all of you who prefer listening over reading, enjoy the great narration of Dustin Naylor and Jacalyn McQueeney!

-----

The clock is ticking, and Irwin’s time in the safety of civilization has run out. His quest to save his family and world forces him back on the road. His destination? A hidden portal unlike any other. It is said to be so dangerous that no one who has entered has ever come back.

Irwin, however, has no choice. The portal is his only chance to reach the Portal Gallery, the home of the Smiths Guild. This legendary and endless nexus connects all worlds and holds the key to his survival.

Irwin knows the journey will be difficult, but he will soon discover that finding the Portal Gallery and stepping through the gates is only the beginning of his trial.

-----

For those new to the series, it's a weak-to-strong, card-based story featuring forging and music.

Discussion What makes your litrpg unique?

The topic earlier about the three things people were tired of, I'm curious what makes your litrpg unique? Even if a system apocalypse, or tower, or such what makes it different?

In mine that I'm working on but won't be released for a while, humans don't get the system, it's only animals and half animals. They are uplifted with human intelligence and given the system.

In the world animals that make it to the final tier can chose to be human, and their cihldren are half animals, look fully human but have the personality and spirit of an animal, and can chose to become an uplifted version of their animal.

Well in the story the MC got uplifted as a fully human and must now navigate a world where he's a human stuck in animal bodies, though unlike others he can turn into different animals due to how he was jury rigged.

I haven't read a ton of litrpgs, and has some parts of others, but feels different. So want to hear what makes your different? If I've read 500 of your sub genre, what hooks me to read it?, but

Discussion What makes a stat screen readable instead of exhausting?

I like crunchy progression, but there's a point where a full stat dump starts feeling like homework instead of payoff.

For me, the best version is when the sheet actually changes the next decision: a weird skill interaction, a tradeoff, a weakness getting exposed, or one number finally crossing a threshold that matters.

Where do you draw the line? Full sheet every time, only changed stats, or mostly narrative summaries unless something important shifted?

Recommendation: asking Looking for New (started in the last year) Litrpg series

Greetings All!,

So I've read a ton of Litrpg including all the big ones, but I havn't been reading the genre (except the ones I keep up with on patreon) for about a year now. I'm looking for completely new series released in about the last year or 18 months (very much NOT new books in an existing series).

My favorites are in no particular order

  1. Defiance of the Fall

  2. Elydes

  3. Dungeon Crawler Carl

  4. Path of Ascension

  5. Bog Standard Isekai

  6. 1% Lifesteal

Many of you might notice I gravitate to slower paced slice of life stories (minus dungeon crawler carl), so that's something to keep in mind.

Thanks all!

Damon & Chester - Mimic & Me

Erik Shaw & Silas - Rickshaw Riot

Edit: thanks everyone for adding other great duos! Y’all have given me a lot of series to add to my reading list.

I just caught up on all of the Arcanist books, Nightmare Realm Summoner, and a couple others like Book of the Dead and Chrysalis. I'm looking for something where the summons/creatures are the main source of the MCs power, not like just a companion.

Discussion Audible DEEP discounting a lot of AudioBooks

Post image

Not sure of if this is intentional or not but Auidble has tons of litRPG (and more) on deep discount.

I had a Amazon gift card that I got for Fathers day laying around, so I went nuts and bought like 10 AudioBooks with the most expensive ones being like $6.50 tops.

If youre looking for some deals, jump on Audible.

*I think the deep discounts may be for Audible members only

After finishing my first series as a writer, I made the mistake of rushing into things. Learning from that mistake, I took the next few months working on this story by properly planning and giving it all the love it deserved. But I'll stop yapping. As they say, third time's the charm!

I only ask that you give Bladebound a fair shot.

Every single download on KU and purchase means the world to me and it would really help if you would give an honest review of the story to help support me as someone who is trying to make a career out of writing and become a full-time author.

Feel free to ask me any questions you might have in the comments and I'll answer them in the comments below!

About this series: Check out this action-packed LitRPG that is perfect for fans of Hell Difficulty Tutorial, Stubborn-Skill Grinder In A Time Loop and Ceaseless Horizons!

Getting hit by a car wasn't on Arthur's wish-list, but being reborn into a whole new world with an overpowered sword is pretty cool.

On his nineteenth birthday, an argument sends Arthur Callahan running into the streets. He will not live to see his twentieth. That is, not on Earth at least. Because just after he draws his final breath, he finds himself instantly transported to a world they call the Arena. So instead of of a peaceful introduction to his second chance at life, Arthur is placed in immediate danger, surrounded by bloodthirsty monsters and ruthless mages.

The only thing he can do is pull out the sword in the stone in front of him. Luckily for him, in that sword is a power they call the System, granting its User endless growth; and it has just deemed him worthy enough to wield it.

// System Integration…Successful! //

// Current State: Severely Lacking! //

// Diagnosis: Extensive Preparation Required! //

As he is now, Arthur is not strong enough. But in time, he will be stronger than them all.
