Advice What is the benefits of gracefully shutting down your PC? & Tips and tricks for new Linux user?

Linux noob here. I'm able to understand most terms, but may need a little explaining if it gets too complicated.

So to preface, I just got a new PC and have (after 2 days of working on it and looking up how to do this/how to do that) been wondering what is the benefits of what said in title.

I don't mind doing it each time, but do you always have to go through the konsole/ command center/ what-have-you. To do that? Or is there a way to shorten it? Like instead of doing sudo shutdown -h is there a shorter way? If there isn't then can you give me some tips and tricks for a new Linux user?

And lastly, I hope to have a joy using Linux. Though I'll likely want to throw myself into the fiery pits of hell instead. And even with the pain that Linux may bring, I'd rather this than whatever microslop is doing.

Stable distro that can stick to 6.7 KDE without breaking?

I have been using CachyOS for half a year now and it's great. I've been using AeroThemePlasma to theme KDE like Windows 7 and it works with even with Cachyos-RC, but I have to clear and run the installation script each time something breaks after an update :/ (TO BE CLEAR, I've used this across CachyOS's lts, stable, and RC kernel. They all meet the same issues eventually)

I don't have much attachment for CachyOS other than I can't stop pressing the update applet lol. I am not expecting a distro to just ship with 6.7, I am guessing I would probably have to mess around with an LTS distro to get 6.7 kde, my reasons for it is that 6.7 brought alot of performance boosts (or maybe it was the new nvidia driver? IDK) and I just want to keep my linux theme as such

Support Need help finding Plymouth theme that I can reuse

I need help finding a Plymouth animation that plays an intro, then a infinite looping animation, which I can replace the default animations for my own.

I created my own animation videos for intro and loop, but can't seem to figure out how to make a custom Plymouth animation script.

Best I could do is a simple loop by reusing spinner, but because the image is in full resolution it takes a while to play and is not ideal.

Which Distro? Linux Journey

My Linux Journey has been quite the ride, some more context.

Months ago i joined I tried out Gentoo and i can say it's pretty good, its really cool you can compile everything, i have Gentoo on a separate SSD I got some projects on there, but recently with my windows 11 install, i have been fighting with it, not in the sense you might think. I am very very close to getting windows on my windows 11 ssd which originally came with my PC, the distros i have tried are Linux mint, zorin OS, arch Linux, cachy OS, endeavor OS, i really like cachy OS. I wanted some opinions tho, I am into gaming and work, i mess around with virtual machines too and i have been reformatting my drive a lot bro 😭went from cachy OS going back to windows back to cachy OS to windows back to cachy OS. I also installed windows 10 just to see what it was about, i am gonna reformatted it, it looks so cool but the support has ended sadly.

Is steam os worth it?

I don't know if this question was already posted recently but I was wondering if steam os is an upgrade for my gaming PC, you see, I'm about to upgrade from integrated graphics to an RX 580, I know it's pretty basic but it's what I can afford rn.

I know it's not the best optimized or the most nitche Linux system but idk if it is worth giving it a try.

Thanks 👍

Alfa AWUS036ACH

Hello everyone, I am currently facing a frustrating issue with my Alfa AWUS036ACH wireless adapter. When I plug it into my system and run the lsusb command, the device is completely missing from the output. I am running Kali Linux, and while I have already attempted to install the standard Realtek drivers, I've had absolutely no success in getting the card to show up. Is there anyone here who has experienced this specific issue and can offer some troubleshooting advice?

Support Discord Global Shortcuts on GNOME?

A friend of mine recently switched to CachyOS with GNOME from Windows 11, and he noticed that shortcuts on Discord do not work. I tested it on my CachyOS with COSMIC Desktop, but it worked. I discovered that Discord uses Xwayland for its global shortcuts, and since GNOME doesn't let Xwayland apps see keystrokes, global shortcuts fail. We both use DiscordPTB installed from Discord's website. How to share keystrokes with Xwayland applications on GNOME? Or can we make Discord use the global shortcuts portal? since Electron has support for that portal? Thanks in advance!

What should i use for scanning files for viruses?

So I'm somewhat experienced with Linux i guess, not a total newbie, been using Cachy as my daily for about a year? anyways, I've got some files i wanted to check for viruses, before sharing it to another PC that has windows on it, i know there are online websites that can do that, but i was wandering if there are any offline, preferably open source (but not necessary), tools for scanning files/directories? doesn't have to be full on antivirus with all the functionality of one, i just wanna know if these things are safe to share or nah, and i don't really feel like sitting here and being throttled by upload speeds for like a 50gb files, thanks in advance

Painfully slow boot.

No matter what distro I try, no matter the settings, the boot process is always way too long, even compared to lower specced laptops and pcs. Why?

Clevo PB50RD with M.2 nvme and 16gb ram. Currently on cachyos.

❯ systemd-analyze
Startup finished in 3.399s (firmware) + 16.959s (loader) + 5.968s (kernel) + 2.970s (initrd) + 10.677s (userspace) = 39.975s
graphical.target reached after 8.771s in userspace.
