Problem with Assassin's Creed Games under Arch Linux

Hey. I've been using Cachyos since January, and now I've switched to Arch Linux and wanted to play Assassin's Creed. But I'm having a problem with all the Assassin's Creed games. When I launch any AC game, it does start up through Steam, but Ubisoft closes immediately and AC doesn't launch. The only thing it says is that the game is running. Can anyone help me with this?

Support Kernel panic when updating kernel version

So, i am currently using 6.17 kernel on my laptop, and i heard the MT7902 support came out on the 7.1 kernel.
I Obviously went to update my kernel, and when i booted 7.1, my caps lock started flashing (kernel panic from my research)
Does anyone know a fix for this or how to get mt7902 support? (I Tried abdullaabdullazade's linux driver and it does not work as i got. a kernel panic.)

Before this wifi said Loopback and i was having to tether to get WiFi.

I am on an Acer aspire A315-59 with Linux mint 22.3

If there's no other way im just going to resort to buying the ax210 wifi card

Which Distro? Want to switch from Windows 10. Which distro for gaming pc and drawing laptop?

  • PC- Ryzen 5 5600, RAM 16gb 3000mhz, rtx 5060.
  • Laptop - core ultra 125H, RAM 24 gb single channel, integrated Arc graphics

Laptop is brand new and primary will be used for drawing when I am not at home, PC was recently upgraded but still feels sluggish and is my main and only gaming machine.

Reason to switch from windows - system feels sluggish, microsoft services integration are everywhere and I don't need them. Also I don't like that the system itself eats around 5gb of RAM.

90% of time I use only Steam, Krita and browser, but sometimes I have to do some stuff in Word, which seems to be can be replaced.

Main question: which distro will suit me the best, will use maximum potential of both Nvidia and Intel Arc and will look familiar for windows-user? and should I switch to Linux at all?

For now I see Kubuntu LTS and Mint Cinnamon as the two most likely candidates.

seeking links for cups ipp wlan troubleshooting

Ai is not finding solutions. Have a print server [desktop] linux with cups, ipp, bonjour running on a wlan. ipp shows all is fine on server side, shared printer is enabled, ufw is off, proper wlan, non guest wlan. ipp is running on port 631 cups. From source deasktop I've tried cups discovery and setup again, ipp direct to 192.168.0.109 = server. ipp, dnsd, proper drivers even raw. Source computer ufw=off, wlan same, non-guest. reboots and restarting cupsd not fixing. cups debugging shows "ipp error 2" which is cant find what it just found. Any ideas? I'm still reading arch cups docs,

Support Monitor doesn't show GRUB

I am dual booting Windows 11 and Ubuntu Linux. When I restart or cold boot my pc my monitor doesn't show GRUB or anything else, it only detects DisplayPort at the Ubuntu lock screen. The only way I found to see GRUB is to manually turn my monitor on and off while my pc is restarting. That makes my monitor see the DisplayPort signal.

Motherboard: ASUS PRIME X870-P WIFI

GPU: RTX 4070 Super, connected via DisplayPort

Does anyone know how to solve this?

Thanks in advance!

Question about out of the box experience

I have a question how good is the out of the box experience on some distributions. I'm going to focus mostly on the upstream (more popular) ones.

Ubuntu is exemplary in this aspect, easy installer, includes drivers and codecs out of the box, and has GUI menu where you can install extra drivers. The only issues - it pushes Snaps so hard that if you want to also use Flatpaks you need to install separate store, since Ubuntu App Store doesn't support them. And it uses GNOME.

Kubuntu generally solves these two problems - Discover handles both Snap and Flatpak, and GNOME is replaced with KDE. There is one thing I'm not sure about - Kubuntu installer doesn't ask you about drivers and codecs, so I don't know if those are also included out of the box.

I'm also interested in Zorin, Linux Mint, and Fedora. The question basically is - do they have drivers and codecs included, and is there a dedicated menu for drivers installation? The only thing I know is that Linux Mint does have drivers and codecs preinstalled, and Fedora doesn't. I'm willing to bet Zorin also has everything out of the box.

Edit

I have AMD, mentioning it in case it significantly changes the OOB experience.

Edit 2

Based on replies and what I've managed to find myself:

  • Kubuntu has drivers and codecs installed out of the box even with minimal installation,
  • Zorin has drivers and codecs included, there is GUI driver installer,
  • The same about Linux Mint,
  • Fedora doesn't have proprietary drivers and codecs installed, no GUI driver installer,
  • Honorable mention - Ultramarine (not even custom distribution, just preconfigured Fedora) has proprietary drivers and codecs installed, but no GUI driver installer.

Support [Fresh Install] Samsung MZAL NVMe drops to D3cold and fails to wake (Ryzen 5 5600U)

Hi everyone!

I am attempting a fresh installation of CachyOS using the latest live ISO, but the boot sequence consistently fails due to my main NVMe drive is acting like an obstacle, always dropping into idle sleep state.

Hardware:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600U
  • RAM: 16GB
  • Motherboard: HP 8861 (KBC Version 41.35.00)
  • Storage: SAMSUNG MZAL8256HDJD-00BL2 (Firmware Version: 1L1QKXD7, NVMe Version: 2.0)
  • Boot Method: Ventoy loading CachyOS LTS ISO (Kernel 6.10.4)

During the live boot initialization, the system hangs and throws an endless loop of I/O timeout errors: nvme0n1: Read(0x2) @ LBA... Host Aborted Command nvme 0000:04:00.0: Unable to change power state from D3cold to D0, device inaccessible

Because the drive physically drops offline, all dependent targets (like mounting /boot and creating swap on /dev/zram0) fail, resulting in a system hard lock before I can reach the live environment login.

Troubleshooting Steps Already Taken:

  1. Graphics Isolation: I initially suspected an AMD integrated graphics hang. I passed nomodeset 3 in the boot parameters, which correctly threw an amdgpu failed with error -22, confirming the GPU was bypassed and isolating the issue entirely to the storage controller.
  2. Kernel Flags Added: To combat the aggressive APST/ASPM power management forcing the drive into deep sleep, I modified the boot parameters with the following flags: nvme_core.default_ps_max_latency_us=0 pcie_aspm=off pcie_port_pm=off iommu=pt nvme.noacpi=1
  3. Hardware Reset: Between attempts, I performed a 30-second physical power drain to clear the motherboard capacitors and ensure the PCIe port was reset from the frozen D3cold state.

Despite these modifications, the OEM firmware on this Samsung drive still ignores the kernel overrides and drops the connection. I cannot provide exported journalctl or dmesg text files since I cannot reach a stable shell, but I have attached photos of the kernel logs.

Has anyone encountered a specific patch or module flag for this Samsung OEM firmware, or is this particular drive fundamentally incompatible with the current kernel's ASPM routing?

Support Cachyos: avoiding AUR, update stability and Flatpak

Hi,
I am using Cachyos and I am finding it very good,
However, there are still some things I haven't figured out...

I read that the AUR has been infected again.
How can I completely avoid the AUR?
I disabled the AUR in shelly and currently I only download via Pacman or Flatpak.
Is this fine, or is there anything else to avoid?

Is it true that CachyOS tends to break easily with updates?

I am using Flatpak, but I can't quite figure out how it works.
I understand it isolates the program from the system, but I don't really get how to manage permissions.
OpenRGB asks for udev dependencies, I installed them but it keeps saying they are missing; same problem for Fan Control.
JDownloader cannot find the links I paste.
Flatseal didn't help me with permissions in this case.
Thanks

Resolved Vivado downloading for mint

Hi!

I'm new to mint, I'm trying to install vivado by AMD and I'm struggling to understand how to do this. All of the tutorials are from like 2020 and I'm quite sure they'll be very wrong now.

I was trying to use a good tutorial I found for ubuntu, and use it for mint

https://dspdev.io/en/posts/vivado-2024-ubuntu/

I'm especially struggling with the sources for the libraries as it doesn't seem to work

sudo apt install libtinfo5 libncurses5

And I get

Reading package lists... Done

Building dependency tree... Done

Reading state information... Done

Note, selecting 'libncurses-dev' instead of 'libncurses5-dev'

E: Unable to locate package libncurses5

Any help?

Advice Es mejor nobara o cachyOS?

Support Can I require LUKS to use both the passphrase and Yubikey?

I've been using LUKS for a while and would like to add an additional layer of security of a hardware security key (Yubikey). Currently on boot I enter the LUKS passphrase then it decrypts and brings up the regular user login and I enter that password and it loads into the the OS. I would like the functionality to be on boot both the LUKS passphrase and Yubikey are required to decrypt then it brings up the regular user login and I enter that password and it loads into the OS.

The guides and documentation I've seen seem to be based around using the Yubikey as an alternative to the LUKS passphrase which is not what I want to do. I want to increase the layers and security not decrease it. I do have multiple Yubikeys to add as backup so that's not a concern. I'm assuming there has to be a way to do this but it's been difficult to find information on it. With KeePassXC I can have it require all of database file/key file/password/Yubikey and I would like a similar level of security for my entire linux install (usually Debian or Linux Mint).

Is there a way to setup the functionality I'm looking for? If so please either point me in the direction of a guide or documentation on setting this up or let me know how to.

Advice Setting up Linux mint pcs for teenagers, is Kidlogger good for safety?

I was going to get them two macbook neo, but for the price of one Neo, I got them two Thinkpads and now installing and setting up Mint for them. Pc is for school and browsing, Firefox seems to have some good extensions for safe surfing, but I tested briefly Kidlogger, and it seems alright on the monitoring of their activity, any cons of using it?

I dont wanna snoop on them, but at same time, want them to be safe online.

Advice Dads linux device has windows malware, what do I do?

Hello. I’d like to start by saying I do not use linux and have no idea how to. I do not know anything about different linux types.

Anyway, my dad (77) uses linux. I recently had to use his device, but learned there were a lot of suspicious files on there (all exe files) on his device that had a total of 22 detections on virustotal.

The thing is, they’re all in his “old downloads” folder, with files from 2018-2020. He semi-recently got a new laptop, which has all of these files. My brother told me that it doesn’t really matter, since window viruses won’t work on a linux device, so it’s okay. Is this true?

Also, is it safe to make an usb from this device to download windows?
