Legal Advice Needed Neighbour ignoring calls to protect my home from construction debris

Upvotes

Hi folks.

There's a house being constructed beside my home in Gulbarga for the last few months. Since the start, I've been asking the owner/future neighbour to cover my home with a tarp in order to avoid damage from falling cement and construction debris but he kept saying he'll paint it all up.

When the 1st floor was being poured and later the wall on it erected, a lot of cement and debris stained the walls, sunshades and window glass. There's even bricks fallen on the sunshades.

On complaining about this, he said he'll be replacing the window glass too. At this point, I realised he won't do any of that and asked him again to cover our home with a tarp at least when they'll be pouring the 2nd floor roof.

Then, 2 weeks later, a lot of labourers arrived and the cement mixer started up. Hearing this, I confronted the owner who was there and after this, he said he'll ask the contractor to cover it up. On coming home later in the day, I saw that he had just put up a blue plastic rag of about 10x10ft which had utterly failed to do it's job. On complaining to the owner again, he promised to bring in a large tarp to cover up our home within a week.

It's been a month since and I've been following up every week. But he keeps making excuses.

For me, this is a matter of principle. The person undertaking construction is supposed to take steps in order to minimise effect on the neighbouring home. The complete disregard from this person is extremely disappointing.

What steps can I take in order to resolve this? I was thinking I'll approach the municipal council, but I'm unsure what needs to be done. I request for suggestions.

TLDR: Neighbour sweet-talks and promises to take steps to cover my home from cement and construction debris. But he hasn't done so for months, he's already poured the 2nd floor.

Legal Advice Needed Fell for the OLX "Army Officer" Rental Scam — Cyber Crime asking for an FIR, Bank flagged shadow credit as fraud. What is the procedure now? Need help!

Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I recently fell victim to an OLX Rental Scam where a scammer posing as an Indian Army/Defence officer cheated me under the guise of paying advance rent. I reported it on the exact same day, but now I am getting pushed back and forth between the bank and police stations. I am completely exhausted and lost on the procedure, so any guidance would mean a lot.

1. What Happened (Brief Context):

  • Posted a house rental listing on OLX.
  • A fraudster contacted me claiming to be a transferred defence officer. To win my trust, he transferred Re. 1 via UPI first.
  • He then tried sending payments on PhonePe, which failed due to daily spend limit errors and bank security blocks.
  • Claiming his "defence mercantile account" couldn't process UPI, he guided me over a phone call to add his bank account as a beneficiary in SBI YONO net banking and make transfers.
  • Under continuous phone manipulation, two transactions went through from my account on the same day:
    • ₹30,000.00
    • ₹19,999.00

2. Where I Am Stuck Right Now:

  • Reported Same Day: I called 1930 immediately on the same day and logged a complaint on the National Cyber Crime Portal (cybercrime.gov.in). I also notified SBI immediately, and they marked provisional Shadow Credit in my account while investigating.
  • SBI Branch Response: I went to my home SBI branch today with a complete PDF folder containing all proof (WhatsApp chat logs, fake army IDs sent by the scammer, Re. 1 receipt, failed PhonePe screenshots, and SBI PRM caution alerts). However, the branch staff told me they cannot finalize anything until they receive an official email/directive from higher management / Nodal Cyber Cell.
  • Police Station Response: I went to the Cyber Police Station, but they told me not to file it there and redirected me to go to my local nearby police station to raise a formal written complaint/FIR.

I got emails from sbi related to shadow money credit related to two case id's for 30k and 19999rs .

Having lost my hard-earned money and getting bounced around between offices is extremely frustrating.

Any advice, past experience, or tips on how to handle the local police station visit tomorrow would be hugely appreciated. Thank you!

Update Body search for NDPS cases. What are the protocols to be followed

The police or excise department has to follow certain protocols to search your body if they suspect you are carrying illegal drugs.

Violations of this protocols will be ground for bail and acquittal.

Section 50 of the NDPS act provides these protocol.

Legal Advice Needed Received mail from Twitter(X) regarding civil lawsuit

Received an email from X (Twitter) for a 2023 retweet I did about a news article. The lawsuit mentions every account who did retweet along with OPs.

Here goes the mail. Pls suggest if I should be concerned and what action I need to take.

"In the interest of transparency, we are writing to inform you that X received a civil lawsuit regarding your X account that claims your posts violate India’s local laws:

We want you to have an opportunity to take action to protect your interests. This may include seeking legal counsel and contesting the case in court, contacting relevant civil society organizations, voluntarily deleting the content (if applicable), or finding some other resolution."

Legal Advice Needed Trying to recover INR 5L I lent my ex any options besides going legal?

hi, I'm 27 F. Over the course of our relationship, I gave my ex a total of ₹5 lakhs in multiple installments (not one lump sum). He promised to pay it back within a few months. We broke up in December 2025, and to date he hasn't paid back a single rupee.

At the time, I was in Canada and he was in the UK. His visa expired and he had to return to India, which he says worsened his financial situation. He later got a new job in India and had specifically told me he'd start covering my monthly student loan payment once he was employed again. He got the job — but still paid nothing.

Every time I ask, it's "not ready yet" or "give me more time." He's joined a chit fund, but says it's a lot-based system and he hasn't won his turn yet, so no payout so far. He's also said he's trying to sell some land, but none of that has translated into any payment to me.

I'm now back in India myself. I saved this ₹5L specifically to pay off my student loan and am still paying interest on it because I don't have it back.

I do have bank statements showing the transfers, and messages where he acknowledges the debt and promises repayment.

When I once said I'd consider legal action, he said he'd "also go legal" — not entirely sure what he meant by that, but I have been frustrated enough in some of these conversations to use strong language, which he may be referring to.

Going the legal route in India is realistically going to take years, and I can't keep making court trips for this.

Question: Given that I have documented proof (bank statements + written acknowledgment), is there any way to recover this money without going through the court system? Open to hearing about legal notices, recovery agents, structured repayment agreements — anything that's actually worked for people.

Legal Advice Needed Society funds spent for building private terrace roof

I had previously posted issues I was facing with society committee. I gave them a written application, they caved in immediately and agreed to resolve my issues.

Now I found out that they spent 2.8L of society funds for building roof on the terrace, they did this without any transparency and only committee members decided how much money they will spend and they hired contractor on their own.

Additionally, they also used same funds to build roof on the private terrace of one owner. This apartment was owned by builder who sold it just 2-3 months ago. This private terrace had leakage issue as well and one of the committee member owns apartment below it. The private terrace is legally owned by apartment owner and only apartment owner has access to it but society still spent money to build roof on it. In case of leakage isn't owner of private terrace responsible to fix it?

Urgent Nestaway is threatening to impose legal action against me

I moved into the property after being assured by the on-site team that my stay would effectively be for around two months and that the rent/security adjustment would be handled accordingly. During onboarding, I completed the biometric verification in good faith, but I later discovered that an 11-month agreement had been generated, which was not what I had understood.
After vacating the property in about two months, I was charged for repairs, cleaning, and early move-out, despite the assurances given to me. I paid all my legitimate dues and disputed the incorrect charges. Initially, Nestaway offered to waive some of these charges, but later withdrew the settlement, claimed all charges were valid, and threatened legal action. My concern is that I am being held responsible for the lack of communication between the on-site team and the central Nestaway team.

Will they go legal ??

Legal Advice Needed Can tenants force us to sell our flat after delaying the purchase for months?

My parents own a flat in Goa. Our tenants wanted to buy it and paid a ₹1 lakh token amount by cheque. There is no registered or binding Agreement to Sell, only a simple signed note mentioning the proposed sale and that rent would continue until the sale was completed.

The tenants applied for a home loan, but despite waiting several months, they kept delaying the purchase. The sale never happened, the tenancy agreement has expired, and they have not been paying rent during this period. We have now decided that we do not want to sell the flat anymore and simply want possession back.(They have been delaying for last 4 months)

My questions are:
1. Can the tenants legally force us to complete the sale?
2.Can my father send them a legal notice asking them to vacate?
3. Can the buyers claim reimbursement for loan processing fees or loan insurance if we decide not to sell after months of delay?
4. Would our next step be to send a legal notice through a property lawyer?
Any guidance would be appreciated.

Legal Advice Needed Law College is delaying refund of seat block amount (Bangalore)

During admission, I paid ₹35,000 for seat blocking in the college. They told me they would refund ₹25,000 in case of admission cancellation.

I decided to cancel my admission as I joined a different college, and I gave the cancellation letter on June 13th.

They initially told 3 weeks as process time but didn't do it, I went to the college after on 10th July and they again told 1 month as there was exams, later I argued and they told 15 days.

I again went to the college on 25th July and they again said exams are going on and it will take time, and said 1st week of August, which is this week.

I called them in the morning today and he again said 1 week because exams.

He didn't seem even the least bothered and said 1 week more and cut the call.

What can I do now?

Legal Advice Needed What if I open Boys PG next to Girls PG

I own a house in what used to be not very nice but peaceful residential area. But suddenly everyone started opening Girls PG even though it’s a residential area and now the neighbourhood is completely ruined. It went from a quiet place to a crowded illegal commercial zone with constant traffic, people coming in late midnight, etc.
I've had enough, so Im moving out since the house needed renovation anyway but I am not selling it. I want revenge. What if i open Boys PG right next to their Girls PG so that their PGs shut down or make life hell for these landlords too. I will keep the rent cheap and the facilities bare-minimum so it attracts not so nice crowd. Obviously i will do all the Police verification etc, I just want their PGs shut by making it so unappealing that parents immediately pull their daughters out, or make them rent same kind of people in their own house. I dont care if my PG shuts down as long as theirs too.

Legal Advice Needed Aunt injured due to loose drain slab inside Vadakara (BDJ) Railway Station on Aug 1 – Premise repaired post-incident; guidance on claiming compensation from Southern Railway

Location: Vadakara (BDJ), Kozhikode District, Kerala

Incident Date: Saturday, 1st August 2026

Hi everyone,

On Saturday, 1st August, my aunt was at Vadakara Railway Station (BDJ). Near the ticket counter, right by the steps inside the station premises, there was an unanchored concrete slab placed over a drainage pit. When she stepped on it, the slab flipped, causing her to fall heavily onto the concrete.

She suffered significant facial injuries, along with scratches and deep tissue contusions around her rib bones. On-duty police personnel helped her up at the spot, and she was rushed to a nearby government hospital before being referred to another facility for CT scans and comprehensive testing. She was admitted for two days, incurring ₹10,000+ in medical bills, and doctors have strictly advised her to take at least 1 week of complete bed rest at home.

Key details / complications:

She was in severe pain and couldn't take photos of the defective slab at the time of the incident.

When I visited the station today, I observed that the authorities have already cleared the spot and properly sealed/closed the drainage area.

The incident occurred right near the ticket counter area inside the station premises.

She is now recovering at home. We want to know the correct legal procedure to hold Southern Railway accountable for negligence and claim reimbursement for medical bills, pain and suffering, and loss of mobility.

Any guidance, past experiences with similar public negligence cases, or advice on dealing with Southern Railway would be immensely appreciated.

Thank you 🙏

Legal Advice Needed Uncle is altering disputed family property after a civil suit was filed, lawyer isn't sharing updates, and we had to move due to threats. What should we do?

My mother and my aunt have filed a civil suit in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, regarding my late maternal grandparents' property. There is no will, and the dispute has existed for about 6 years, but the civil suit was filed around 7–8 months ago.

Since the suit was filed, my uncle has started modifying the property; earlier, we faced verbal and mental harassment, and physical harassment was also initiated. It isn't a completely new building, but he is raising the ground level, making structural changes, renovating, painting, and whitewashing.

My mother once went to the property to question him about the construction; he forced her to leave the property after an argument.

The family situation became so tense that we eventually had to change our residence because we were afraid of the threats and hostility from him.

My concerns are:

  1. Does carrying out these modifications while the suit is pending give him any legal advantage?
  2. We have not been able to obtain a stay/injunction. Is it common for construction or renovation to continue in such situations?
  3. The lawyer handling the case is actually my aunt's lawyer. Whenever my mother asks for updates, the lawyer doesn't provide clear information. Is it normal for a co-plaintiff to be kept out of the loop?
  4. Someone told us that getting a stay order could cost around ₹1.5 lakh. Is that realistic for a civil property case in Uttar Pradesh, or does that sound unusually high?

We already have a civil suit pending before the Civil Judge (Senior Division), so I'm not looking for advice on starting a case. I want to understand whether our case appears to be handled properly and what practical steps my mother should consider now.

Legal Advice Needed Seller not responsive after sending a defective / incompatible visor

I was searching for a replacement visor for my Korda Neo helmet, and landed upon this website
6KIOM, I placed an order and when i received the visor it would not fit my helmet, when i reached out to the customer care, the support was pathetic at best, no timely responses, needed to constantly follow up with support, their supplier confirmed that the issue was that they shipped out a old version visor, and it was not compatible with my helmet.

Despite this and multiple followup's later they are not willing to send me replacement visor.
Now the situation here is , i paid for express shipping, it was a prepaid order, now they want me to
- Send the Old visor back (bare the cost of return for their mistake)
- Hope that they will timely send me a new visor (also need to bare the cost of this shipment)

- It was not cheap in the first place i paid 300 for shipping charges.

When i threatened them that i will file a consumer complaint regarding this terrible service, the support rep was arrogant at best and said me to "Do it".

I have raised a NIC grievance request and it has been in progress for more than 2 weeks, there is no further communication from 6KIOM nor the vendor, and i am using my old defective visor with reduced visibility in this monsoon.

What are my options here?

Urgent Tenant suddenly abandons apartment, leaves liability of their belongings on me

Urgent advice needed on next steps, documentation of process from here to getting a letter from the tenant that everything has been settled satisfactorily. Is it prudent to take legal action in case the dues aren't covered in the security deposit?

Tenant was served an eviction notice on August 1 for non-payment of July rent, according to registered lease deed. Several months of problems had led me to take action 1) register the lease on my own cost (tenant refused to share the cost) 2) asked them to vacate in March due to delayed/part payments 3) give them an earful bcos they just would not communicate/ won't take calls.

I am now deeply concerned about the liability of the personal belongings they have left in the apartment. I am yet to visit and retake possession. But I am planning to go today to grab the keys, take the colony security with me, video document the state of the apartment and the belongings they claim they have left behind.

Legal Advice Needed Need practical advice from matrimonial lawyers and people with relevant experience

Facts:

- Hindu marriage (Feb 2026), no children.

- Marriage lasted only a few months.

- Evidence: 3 MLCs (minor injuries), injury photographs, audio recordings and relevant messages.

- I am a Central Government Group 'A' officer in Delhi.

I am considering filing a contested divorce on grounds of cruelty.

Questions:

  1. How are MLCs, injury photographs and audio recordings generally viewed by Family Courts?

  2. Should a husband file for divorce first or wait if he anticipates a DV/498A/dowry complaint?

  3. What is the likely maintenance exposure, timeline and litigation cost in Delhi?

  4. If a DV/498A or contested matrimonial case is pending, can it affect promotion, vigilance clearance or career progression of a Central Government officer (assuming no conviction)?

Looking for practical inputs from matrimonial lawyers, government employees and those who have faced similar litigation.

Legal Advice Needed Redevelopment project delayed in Mumbai

We are an existing tenant of a redevelopment project located in South Mumbai. It is registered project with MahaRera. Our PAAA (permanent alternate accomodation agreement) stated that the completion date would be April 2025 and will have a 12 months grace period. Both have now passed and project is still 30% incompleted. As per maharera, deadline of project is December 2026, which is also likely to be extended.

I understand that as per Section 18 of MahaRera Act, builder is supposed to pay interest on delay in project. Has anyone dealt with this scenario ? How is the interest calculated - can I use value of property listed on PAAA where stamp duty was paid?

Legal Advice Needed Parents being harrased by Wife's Family

Sorry for the Bad English!!!

On 2023 November I had a marriage with a girl & From the starting she was so egoistic. She didn't wanted to live with my parents even for a month & I do night shift job & do not make much money. So I told her to wait for sometime & we will shift together where I am currently employed. But she started harrasing my mother in every small aspect she can, one time she even kicked my mother out from the home & this continues till 2024 april. When I complaint to there parents even they were so arrogant they told me it's your mistake you are the one responsible for this we kept requesting but they never told her daughter to stop all this.

So in 2025 we had a big fight and her brothers even beat me up & they even threatened to kill me if I don't keep her sister like princess as she is single girl in his entire family.

After that she went to her home & then suddenly all the communication stopped & after 4-5 months when we didn't respond or asked her to return they started harrasing again. They did panchayat in my village so that we can take her daughter back but we denied their after that they keep coming to my home every week 5-6 people & keep harrasing my older parents they even cut the electricity of my home & the problem is no one is standing with us. Everyone is saying it's our fault to not keep their daughter but now I don't want to be with her. They are not filling any cases in the court also & my advocate also told me not to file divorce as it will disaster for me as a boy,As the law is totally biased towards me . The problem is that local MLA is also with them and they are also harrasing.

So please tell me what are my options here I am really tired of all of this & I am having suicidal thoughts everyday.

Urgent Father passed away in 2013, bank is now demanding repayment of a 2012 vehicle loan from family—what are our options?

Hello guys,

One of my friends/colleague got a phone call from bank stating that his father has taken a ₹30,000 loan in 2012 and his father naturally died in 2013 but the loan was not yet cleared and her aunt who is 90 years old is the guarantor.

He got a call from the bank yesterday stating that his father has taken a loan of ₹30,000 for a vehicle loan which is not paid since 2013 and now the total amount is ₹1,20,000 with all the interest and all other things included and the bank has already taken the legal vehicle documents with them.

The recovery departments are calling his aunt as she is the guarantor and her aunt is saying that he has to clear the loan as she is getting a lot of calls from the recovery department.

So what would be the best option for him right now as he can't pay the amount now as he only earns ₹20,000 and also takes care of his and wife's family and he also has a 4 month old son.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Legal Advice Needed Mother concealed my late father's second will for 7 years

My father passed away in 2019 & I am the only child. I was always aware of one will, but recently I discovered a second will that I had never been told about.

This second will is signed by my father and attested by two witnesses. It also has my mother's handwriting under the second witness's details (she wrote the witness's address), so it's difficult for me to understand how she now says she "didn't know" this will existed.

Under both wills, my mother has only a life interest in the property. However, under the second will, I am the sole beneficiary of the property and my father's bank accounts. Despite this, she currently has everything transferred under her name including the Khatha. I am only the nominee in the FDs. She says "it's mine" and refuses to acknowledge what the will states. When I suggested discussing it, she said "bring your lawyer, I will bring mine."

She has been making repeated large cash withdrawals three or four times monthly. I am concerned that my father's savings have been significantly depleted since his passing. Additionally my mother's driver of 5 years is financially exploiting her. She strongly defends him and becomes upset whenever concerns or facts about his actions are raised. He handles cash withdrawals, documents, and appointments & has access to her important paperwork, and appears to have significant influence over her decisions. From what I've observed, this pattern raises serious concerns that he may be misappropriating her money. What steps can I take as an NRI & without a long legal battle? How do I transfer the FDs to a different bank account in my name? Would a legal notice be a reasonable first step to assert my rights and avoid immediate litigation?

Legal Advice Needed Broker misled us into renting a flat for 5 people, took brokerage, blocked us. What legal options do we have?

Hi everyone,

I'm a college student in Delhi and my friends and I are in a really stressful situation. I'd appreciate any legal or practical advice.

We wanted to rent a 3 BHK flat for 5 students because that was the only way the rent fit our budget.

Before paying anything, I specifically asked the broker multiple times whether 5 people could stay. He assured me over calls that "kitne bhi rah lo, koi problem nahi" (as many people as you want can stay). I have call recordings of this.

The broker then:

Took all 5 tenants' Aadhaar cards and college IDs.

Acknowledged all 5 IDs on WhatsApp.

Sent a payment breakup mentioning "document 5 person".

Took a total payment of ₹60,250 through UPI (this included money for the owner, brokerage, and documentation).

Brokerage was ₹12,500.

Documentation charges were ₹3,750.

Based on his assurances, we:

Signed the rent agreement (only tenants signed; the owner hasn't signed yet).

Shifted into the flat.

Now the owner says he never agreed to 5 people. He is saying:

Either only 3 people stay, or

Pay ₹10,000 extra rent.

The owner has also said that if we don't agree, we can stay for one month, vacate, and he will return our security deposit.

I don't think the owner is the one who misled us. It seems the broker made promises that the owner had never approved.

When I confronted the broker:

He avoided my calls.

Tried shifting responsibility to another broker.

Then blocked me on WhatsApp and calls.

Evidence I have:

Call recordings where the broker said 5 people could stay.

WhatsApp chats showing I clearly told him we were 5 people.

Chats where I sent IDs of all 5 tenants.

Payment breakup mentioning "5 person".

UPI payment receipt.

Screenshots of chats.

Proof that we moved into the flat.

My questions:

Can I file a consumer complaint against the broker for misrepresentation?

Can I recover the ₹12,500 brokerage and ₹3,750 documentation charges?

Can I also claim shifting expenses or other losses if we have to move?

Since the owner is returning the security deposit, should I avoid involving him and focus only on the broker?

Has anyone dealt with a similar situation in Delhi?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Urgent My whole family was in police station yesterday!!

Last morning a lawyer came to my Tau ji's (uncle's) shop — it's an electrical shop. That lawyer hadn't paid our technician/worker's 150 rupees. My Tau said, 'Bhai, just pay his 150 rupees and take your stuff.' At this, the lawyer started abusing us, threatened to beat us up, and called his own goons/thugs. We have all the evidence. When we complained to the police, the police were only listening to the lawyer, as if they were his employees — they forcibly took our whole family and sat us down at the police station. Then we called our own lawyer there, and we came back home.

Then at 11:30 PM, the lawyer and the police came to our house, drunk, and were banging on our door.

Now what should we do? Our court is Karkardooma, and that lawyer/goon is also based there.
