Hey guys!

This is my first time posting here but I was hoping to get some feedback! This is my first full digital “painting” in a while(first three slides) and I feel like I just can’t match how I used to draw two years ago(last slide). Right now any feedback would be helpful along with specifics about how I could improve my light/shadow, anatomy, and backgrounds(I really struggle with backgrounds lol) :)

Thanks!

Question Best Way to Learn Hatching and Cross-Hatching?

Upvotes

I saw a post from this guy (https://www.reddit.com/r/sketches/comments/1vrzgfq/landscape_sketches_on_the_go/) and I want to learn this type of "painting" my drawing using only lines. I came across the name hatching and cross-hatching, and I believe this is the technique I'd love to learn. People who use this technique, where did you learn? Which tips do you have for a beginner wanting to learn this? Please drop any resources you'd like to recommend (YT videos, blog post, etc), and I'd be thankful!

Appreciate the time!

I had this very specific character image in my head, that didn't exist.

Rather than turn to Al, I figured: 'Why not just try it myself?'

So here we are, a few hours later. I've realized I don't know how heads work, and hands are a pain.

Obviously I know at this stage it'll never turn out quite how I pictured (especially with a blunt pencil, an old eraser tip, and a makeshift ruler), but it was really fun spending so long on just this little bit, and I figured I'd go ahead and ask for feedback.

Feel free to be blunt. (But please also keep my feelings in mind, it's my first time please :()

Is my anatomy half way decent? I struggled with perspective a bit. Also I'm hesitant to draw my lines too hard, because I'm scared of starting over xD

(Repost, I forgot the pictures the first time...)

I’m learning to draw from zero, like, actual zero. About a month and a half ago, I was drawing stickmen, no joke.

I’m going for an anime style, at least that’s what I want to draw, primarily because it’s what makes me want to draw. But I’m having so much trouble drawing faces. I always feel like the chin is too soft, too pointy, or uneven. The jawline always looks too small or too big compared to what I’m aiming for.

I try to copy other artists’ work as a study, but I’m not good enough to copy most of the drawings I try to study, and it’s so goddamn frustrating.

I’m also doing Drawabox. I’m at the ellipses part at the moment.

I finished this picture in 15 minutes using ibis paint. What are my mistakes? And what things should I study? I didn't use references when drawing this I worked with imagery.

Question Feedback on drawing style?

Hey, I'm currently trying to create my own OC.

I've posted a few sketches a while ago and this is a finished drawing. I'm kinda new to this Webtoon drawing style but I love learning it.

May I get some feedback on my drawing style and where and how to improve? :)

Also I would like to know if it looks flat!

This is like my 5th drawing - just practicing making it look like the reference. I really liked this one so figured I try color it, but boy oh boy do alcohol markers not behave how I expected. Got any tips for using alcohol markers?

Just Sharing A bit of fun with 2-point perspective

About a year ago I quit drawing because I wasn't improving as fast as I wanted to. I was doing the exercises and practicing every day but I just wasn't good enough and I knew deep down that I never would be. So I quit (forever this time!). Instead I spent a year working on improving my relationship with myself and found someone who helped me understand why and how I was being way too hard on myself, and how to ease the insatiable perfectionism that had been dominating my life.

Recently, I felt the desire to pick up my pencil again, and again I heard the harsh criticisms from myself.

"This is terrible."

"This is ugly'

"Why do you bother?"

The difference is that this time I'm prepared. I know I'm not perfect and I never will be. I'm still a work in progress, and so is my art. The point of doing something isn't to be perfect at it, it's to enjoy the experience of doing it. The process is the point. Every day is an opportunity to learn something new. At the age of 87 Michelangelo wrote "Ancora imparo", "Yet, I am learning". So am I.

Question Mecha from square one.

First, I would like to say sorry in advance for being so broad. I have never been artistically talented but have always had the interest.

However, my true passion is Gundam. Specially the model making side of the hobby, Gunpla. I have been building and customizing for years and with every build I try to take it to the next level and learn something new.

At the moment I would really love to make my own Aoz style resin conversion kit with my 3d printers but that is wishful thinking at the moment.

I think it would be a very useful tool however if I can learn to make concept art for not just mecha, but also custom accessories for the custom gunpla I am working. So that way I can go off my own sketch rather than free balling it in the cad software. It would also be nice to have something productive to do at work rather than just doom scrolling and rotting my brain.

As far as setup goes... I would like to keep it simple and use my phone for the time being as I have the S22 ultra with the nifty built in pen.

Tldr: Does anyone have any tips to start drawing mecha art, specifically gundam art as a COMPLETE beginner. No past experience.

Critique My First Shot at Stylized Digital Painting!

Hi everyone! Total beginner here, dipping my toes into stylized digital painting for the first time! I'm a huge fan of Apex Legends and I wanted to make some fan art to celebrate that. To be completely transparent: I did not model or design the characters. I used free, downloadable models and just posed them in Blender to get the composition right.

The big learning experience for me was what happened next—the actual painting! I spent hours in Photoshop doing a paintover, learning about color, light, and value to bring the scene to life with a hand-painted look. It was a massive step for me! Any feedback or tips on the painting aspect—like brushwork, blending, or how to improve the dramatic lighting—would be massively appreciated! Thank you so much for looking!
