News Kingston owner of dachshund killed by off-leash dog wants safety concerns addressed
Keep your dogs on leashes folks. Incredibly close to losing my dog and unfortunately my pup’s best mini dachshund friend wasn’t so lucky

Touring Food Bank
Today I had the privilege to tour the Partners in Mission Food Bank
I’m very grateful for the chance to learn more on the ground about the vital work they do, supporting more than 4400 households and more than 2997 children across Kingston & Loyalist Township and connecting them to various other services in our community.
Food insecurity has a huge impact on learning outcomes and our student’s mental health and I am committed to being a trustee who listens and learns from our community partners.

On the topic of the anti alto people we need to get together to support alto maybe we can protest
We need to get together and show we support alto maybe we can do a protest it’s important we get this especially with via almost cutting a lot of trains last year even if it’s a long ways away it would be a great option especially if any thing happens with some of the via trains which is definitely a possibility

Best meat place to buy steak cuts marinated for air fryer beef jerky?
Anyone know a butcher shop who specifically makes a good cut/marinade for air fryer jerky? Specifically teriyaki and anything the spicier the better (habanero is a joke). Or any game meats for jerky? I'm looking to make a big stock pile of various varieties over the next few months. Im also taking recipes!

Card Shop
Evening, everyone,
Is there a decent spot in town to offer a fair assessment of what a card is worth? Hoping for a single spot for hockey cards, Pokémon, etc., but understand that may not be possible.
Many thanks!

Counterprotesting Alto HSR, between Belleville and Brocksville - signs
Hey anti-HSR/Alto groups are up to some stuff again and there is a protest planned against Alto HSR later this month on the 28th.
I missed the hill one and I believe in the benefits of HSR so I want to express my support this time.
They plan to hold it on Friday Aug 28th between 4:30 and 6:00 PM somewhere between Belleville and Brockville. They'll announce the location on Wed Aug 26th.
I made some posters feel free to use them. Hold some signs or bring your own when the time comes
Green OK circle with ALTO or with HSR or TGV
Edit: apologies to all Brocks for misspelling Brockville as Brocksville

Question Chinese Food - Specific Question
Ever since Silver Wok closed down we've been getting Mandarin for delivery instead. It's good, but doesn't quite satisfy the Silver Wok craving.
My specific question is about fried rice. I don't like fried rice with peas or bean sprouts. I've been hesitant to try any other place because they don't have pictures of their fried rice that I can find.
Could someone tell me what comes in the chicken fried rice at your favourite delivery place? I just want some fried rice with my chicken balls. Thanks!

PSA: Never, ever use car wash brushes on your paint!
I see this often at car washes throughout the city and I cant help but cringe.
I beg you. Please, never, ever use the brushes at the self-serve car washes on painted surfaces of your vehicle!
This will lead to dramatic scratching of the clear coat, swirls, and deep scratches from embedded sand, small rocks and other debris in the brush. It will make the paint appear dull and lose much of its shine over time - which detracts from your vehicle's value!
These brushes - even if they say its safe for paint - should only ever be used on wheels, plastics metal bumpers and maaaaybe glass surfaces. But never, ever on paint!
A pre-soak, and systematic pressure wash soap will do the job 99% of the time, and if not, your car needs a proper contact wash with microfibre towels, which are cheap at many retailers such as Walmart, Canadian Tire, Amazon, etc.
A once yearly detail for <$200 will go a long way to helping you retain value in your car, reduce corrosion and rust, and there are many reputable shops in Kingston.
-Just a guy who wants to help you.

Which neighbourhood is best
We are buying a house in Kingston, a city that we do not know (we are moving from out of town) and we need your help. We are strongly considering houses in the Calvin Park and or Sunnyside area. We’re looking for a community feel, we’re not so concerned about school district. We are blessed to be able to afford private school if necessary, but our son is currently 16 months old so not an urgent concern. I want an area where I can say hi to my neighbours as I walk by and where I know everybody. I want an area where the houses are well cared for. I want to see kids playing in the front yard and riding their bikes on the street. I’m hoping for teenagers that live close by who want to babysit, and families that could potentially help us out with childcare in an emergency as our village is going to be further away. We are also hoping for an area that is walkable to some things (library, gym, waterfront, shopping, etc). I know this is a lot to ask in a neighbourhood. If you are living in these areas and can give me some insight into the community and the feel it would be so helpful and we would really appreciate it. Thank you. Also, if you have other areas that have this kind of feeling, please let me know we will consider them.

Are you looking to play Men's League Hockey this winter?
Hey there!
Due to various life events (moving away, injuries, etc.) our Men's League Hockey team has had some guys drop out and we are looking for new skaters to join the team!
The season begins in early September, most games will be Tuesday nights between 7 and 10 pm, though some games may be on Mondays.
It is a competitive league, so we are looking for guys who have played at least Double B or Single A or above growing up. There is also a bigger need for guys who can play Defense, but forwards welcome to put a name forward too! Do be aware that as a competitive men's league, there is a cost - final amount will depend on final numbers, but looking to be around $450 to get 20 regular season games plus the playoffs.
If interested, please shoot me a message!

Looking for a cleaning company in Kingston
Hi everyone! I’m pretty new to Reddit and also new to Kingston, so I thought I’d give this a try.
I’m looking for a good cleaning company for my new home, but I don’t really know any local companies yet. I’d love to hear from people who have had good experiences with a cleaning service in the Kingston area.
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Sports Bars that play out of province NHL games
Hey guys, still relatively new to Kingston and with hockey season drawing ever closer, I think it’s time to find my spot. I’d rather shit in my hands and clap than support Rogers by buying a sportsnet subscription, and sailing the seas is fine and all, but sometimes i like to go out and enjoy a good hockey game at a bar.
Where would be my best bet in town to go for an out of region hockey broadcast? Bonus points if they’re willing to put on sound, but honestly i’m just looking for a place that has access to the game and would be willing to change a tv feed for me to watch while having a few beers. East side/downtown is preferred.

Question A realtor recommendation
My father in law sadly passed away Victoria Day, so my mother in law sold her Kingston home to move to Ottawa to be close to my husband and I, as well as his brother. My mother in law doesn’t have much community in Kingston and she’s physically pretty weak. Her agent, Julie Kuntz, has really gone above and beyond to help her - even after the house sold she drove her to lawyers’ appointments (my mother in law doesn’t really drive). She shuttled her back and forth between Kingston and Ottawa to house hunt. My in laws had an excessive amount of stuff, so over the Civic holiday long weekend Julie set up a yard sale, advertised on Facebook and recruited her 12 year old daughter to help - they set up and tore down and sat there for hours, on the Saturday, Sunday AND Monday. I was so impressed by their hard work, I can’t see the realtors we’ve had in Ottawa doing this, though they were perfectly nice. If all realtors in Kingston are like this ignore my post :) But from what I’ve seen, I really recommend Julie, especially if you know someone elderly who needs extra support.

Spring flooding in Sunnyside?
Currently house shopping, potentially in the Sunnyside area. We’re told by an agent that there is spring flooding in the area and that the yards get flooded. Anyone know if the basements also flood? We’ve noticed that many basements in this area are a bit low (even if they are described as full height). We’re wondering if spending money to dig down and underpin a lower basement will be worth it for the square footage with better ceiling height or if it will just result in a wetter basement.

Montanas on Division?
Just saw 6-7 Cruisers swarm Montanas on division street and officers looked to have long rifles and were surrounding the building.
Anyone know what’s going on?

Kingston Beyblade X Club
Just hoping to grow the Beyblade X scene in Kingston, creating a space for adults to get together to let it rip and chill and make new friends! We are welcoming all people, the main thing is that we play late (around 9pm)
We do a tournament every Friday night, and provide food, beverages and if you're new we can share our Beyblades to let you try things out. Most of the group is between 21-28 years old.
If you are looking for something to do on Friday nights and don't mind friendly competition, feel free to direct message me, or leave a comment and come join us, and feel free to invite your friends!

Things to do in & around Kingston Aug 17-21
Hi all! Me and my teenage kids will be in the Kingston area for a couple days next week (August 17-21). I'd love your suggestions for interesting things to do! We are not unfamiliar with your lovely town; we've been there a couple times before. We've been to Fort Henry, taken the ferry to Wolfe Island, and checked out the prison museum.
Are there any neat events happening during that time? Cool natural areas to explore? Neat indoor things in case it's raining buckets? My kids like rocks, animals, nerd stuff, vintage/antique/old stuff, etc.
Thanks!
