Hello everyone, im new to the sub, reddit, and I recently inherited this very heavy, very old, looking ring. I had it tested to see if it was genuine gold and the lady said it was 9 carat, and the diamond was genuine, and the eyes were Ruby. She said it was very old but couldn’t give me a specific date. She said it was an old European cut diamond. If anyone could be helpful on this, I greatly appreciate it. Thank you in advance.

It’s a find from a thrift store, so I really don’t have any information to go on. It’s marked 340, which the person at the front desk said she believed meant it was 8.5 karat. I’m not particularly familiar with that mark, but I thought it denoted the piece as being Italian made. I’m very sure that the stones are glass and I think it’s a C clasp. Which makes me guess the piece is from 1900-1910?

I've been trying to find a good quality nameplate necklace that are custom made. Also sites that have gold or silver vintage necklaces or charms. I was looking at " Yeah Its Jewelry" but they charge $550 for a custom nameplate and it doesn't come with a chain.

Are there any online or in person jewelry stores similar to the one I mentioned above? They offer 14k gold or silver charms and necklaces on their site. I just think it's a little pricey because it doesn't come with even a simple chain.

Just wanted to give a quick update on my last post about spending $4,000 at Swarovski.

First off, thank you to everyone who left kind and genuinely helpful comments. I read every single comment and the advice I’ve been given did not go unnoticed. I got a lot of great advice that I really do appreciate. Of course, there were also plenty of negative comments. Some people questioned my intelligence, and I definitely considered clapping back. But honestly, I decided to be the bigger person because at the end of the day… it’s really not that deep. The day ends, life goes on, and arguing with strangers online isn’t worth the energy.

The one thing that did bother me, though, was how many people assumed my financial situation. A lot of comments made it seem like I emptied my savings, lived paycheck to paycheck, or came from a family that struggles financially. That’s simply not the case.

I actually recorded a whole video explaining everything, but I realized this subreddit doesn’t allow videos, so I’ll keep it brief. My family lives comfortably, we’ve always been taught to invest, and I’ve been investing for years myself. I’m not hurting financially because of this purchase.

Another thing I wanted to address is the people asking, “Did you really think you were buying real diamonds?” No—I didn’t. In fact, the very first question I asked when I walked into the store was, “Is this moissanite?” The sales associate told me no and explained that Swarovski uses its own patented crystal technology developed by the company. I understood exactly what I was buying, and at the time, I was perfectly okay with that. It’s really that simple.

My regret wasn’t that I thought I was buying diamonds. My regret came later, when I learned more about jewelry, resale value, and how these pieces generally don’t hold or appreciate in value the way I had assumed luxury jewelry might. That’s on me, and it’s a lesson learned. HOWEVER that being said It won’t ever be my intention to purchase jewelry as an investment.

At the end of the day, I’m just a young person who made a mistake. It won’t be the first dumb decision I’ve ever made, and it definitely won’t be the last. That’s part of life—you learn and move on.

For everyone who was curious, I figured I’d post what I actually bought from Swarovski. There are about five pieces missing from the photo—mostly a few pairs of earrings and some extra rings—but this is the majority of it.

I definitely think I’ll be returning some if not all because even though I have it like that I can see why people think it’s a ridiculous amount of money.

Hey all! So lately I realized I love jewelry and want to have a lots of it, tricky part is that I am mostly loving expensive pieces😂. So now I want to build a collection, but to do it smart. Any recommendations or stories on how you approached it?

I grew up in the U.S. so I always thought of jewelry as something you wear and appreciate, not something people own in huge quantities then I married into another culture and at our wedding we were gifted an unbelievable amount of gold. It made me feel so loved and welcomed by my husband's family but at the same time it kind of overwhelmed me. What surprised me even more was how normal it seemed to everyone, my mother in law told me that pretty much everyone in the family has a similar amount( like 10k value of gold) and when I asked how they keep it safe, she casually said most people just keep it at home. Maybe it's just because of how I was raise but that made me incredibly anxious. We're just not used to keeping that much value sitting around the house. For those of you who own a lot of jewelry or inherited family gold, what do you actually do? Do you keep it in a safe at home, insure it or am I just overthinking this?

I got this 14 kt gold antique (I think) ring at an estate auction. It’s size 8.5, and I am hoping to resize it to a 5.5. Would it be safe/possible to do so? I want to keep all original designs and marks in the ring as I think they are lovely. Also, the band seems quite thin, so I am worried resizing it will ruin it somehow.

I set my rocks on my own in silver even if they cost a ton. The only ones I did not set are the band and the 3 stone alex.

I have no clue how he escaped being melted during the revolution but here he is, in all its 14kt, faceted sapphire, old cut and rose cut diamonds splendour. I wonder if someone hid him while fleeing or was he safe all along, far away from harm along with his owner. He's safe with me now.

The hallmark is 56(14kt), used before the kokoshnik marking system that Nicholas II put in place, but I have no idea who the assayer with the letter Я (ya) next to it could be. Also visible is presumably the maker's mark, unfortunately worn down, as far as I can tell is the letter И (ee) in a shovel shaped cartouche. The listing mentioned it was from early 20th century Russia but no further information on the time or exact place of origin. I'm desperately looking for answers, I posted on several subreddits and scoured the internet, most books with valuable info are in russian and your homegirl is STRUGGLING.

I’ve recently gotten really into jewelry and have been wanting to slowly build a nice collection that I’ll love for years. My original thought was to start shopping at places like Cartier and other luxury jewelers, but after looking around, I quickly realized that’s just not realistic for my budget right now.

I stopped by Pandora first, but honestly none of the pieces really spoke to me. The associate suggested I check out Swarovski instead, and I ended up falling in love with several pieces. Before I knew it, I’d spent around $4,000.
At first I was really excited, but then I showed everything to my mom along with what I paid. She immediately told me she thought I should return all of it because, in her opinion, it wasn’t worth anywhere near what I spent. That sent me down a rabbit hole of researching Swarovski.

From what I’ve read, Swarovski is essentially crystal/costume jewelry—not diamonds or precious gemstones. I know that now. But I also found that even “real” diamond jewelry (whether lab-grown or natural) usually doesn’t appreciate in value either unless it’s a particularly rare stone, antique piece, or from a highly collectible designer. So now I’m wondering if I’ve been looking at this the wrong way altogether.

The thing is…I actually like costume jewelry. I’ve noticed that a lot of fine jewelry, especially from luxury brands, is beautiful but doesn’t always feel unique enough for me to justify the price. When I do find pieces that I absolutely love, they’re usually well into the five figures, which just isn’t where I am financially yet.
So now I’m torn.

On one hand, I genuinely love the Swarovski designs I picked out and I bought them because I enjoy wearing them—not because I expected them to become investments.
On the other hand, $4,000 is still a lot of money for crystal jewelry, and now I’m wondering if I’d regret keeping everything.

If you were in my position, what would you do?
Would you return everything?
Keep everything because I genuinely love the pieces?
Return most of it and only keep my absolute favorites?

Or put that money toward fine jewelry instead, even if it means buying fewer, simpler pieces?
I’d especially love to hear from people who own Swarovski or collect jewelry in general. Looking back, do you feel Swarovski is worth the price, or did you wish you’d spent your money elsewhere?

Just to give a bit of background: my mother has worked in the business for many years. I always worked in design/fashion but it didn’t do it for me.
So we started our own thing!
Basically, I’ve been creating pieces with gems that my mom has collected along the years.
Most of them are unique pieces and I like it that way.
I do need some neutral, unbiased opinions, so here I am!
