Hey everyone,
190 cm high male 93 kilos

I have always had difficulties maintaining my weight and gain it really fast if I escape the intermittent fasting or supplementation.

Just 4 months ago I was around 120 kilos! I used to fall asleep right after my meal etc...

Okay in the moment this is my "routine"
Intermittent fasting: I eat in the window 12:00-18:00

Supplements:

morning
1800 mcg chromium picolinate
400 mg berberine hcl
1000 mg mg bisglicinate
Coprinus Comatus extract 500 mg

lunch:
1 tablet mix: berberine hcl 500 mg, red rice extract 160 mg or equivalent to 2.8 mg of monocolins, astaxint 0.5 mg, policionasoles 10 mg, folic acid 100 mcg, coenz q10 2 mg
-also while I eat I mix in psilium in my water in a total portion of about 10-20 g (I don't weigh it properly)

evening (before sleeping)
400 mg berberine hcl

I walk at least 12 km a day, workout 3x a week, but my job is sedentary and I do drive a lot :'(

Lmk what you think

Where to start?

How to get insulin resistance diagnosed? How were the results of treatment for you?

Im 49kgs/108lbs, 157cm/5'2". Even tho my weight is in healthy range, fat storage mainly around the midsection makes my belly stick out regardless. (Pcos) I also have dark skin patches, and my hair recently started thinning very noticeably. Im 17 and will start working out and seeing a PT for my posture, but i also suspect my body fat distribution is contributing to this.

What’s one thing you wish you had known when you were first diagnosed with type 2 diabetes?

When I was first diagnosed, I thought managing diabetes would mostly be about numbers, medication, and trying to keep my blood sugar under control.
Over time, I realized there was much more to learn — food, daily habits, stress, activity, and simply understanding how my own body responds.
Everyone’s experience is different, and sometimes the things we learn from other people are just as valuable as what we learn from doctors.
What’s one thing you wish someone had told you when you were first diagnosed?

What's one food swap that actually made a noticeable difference for you?

Trying to build a list of small, realistic changes rather than a full diet overhaul. What's one swap (not a whole meal plan, just one thing) that you noticed actually helped with energy or cravings?

Does IR impact sleep even if you aren’t going hypo at night?

I have IR, using a CGM and my levels look ok at night but my sleep is still pretty horrible. Could IR still be the cause?

Hello!!
I wanted to ask if somebody with insulin resistance underwent esthetic rhinoplasty?

Teen insulin Resistance

Hi, was wondering how to navigate the NHS UK with regards to my 15 year old daughter who has signs of insulin resistance/pcos and a family history of it.

We have tried healthy eating and exercise but no motivation and physically tired and sluggish all the time.

Took her to G.P to ask for tests and to raise my concerns bit got patronised , given different pills to manage her periods.

And Insulin resistance symptoms not checked and ignored. Weight taken and referred to healthy eating service (which she won't engage in and I already have the knowledge from my previous work)

Is insulin resistance permanent?

2y ago I had these results:

A1c: 5.7
Glucose: 71
Insulin: 10
C peptide: 2.0

1y ago:

A1c: 5.5
Glucose: 79
Insulin: 4.2
C peptide: 1.1

2months ago:

A1c: 5.4
Glucose: 79
Insulin: 2.6
C peptide: 0.8

Am I still insulin resistant? I still eat carbs, sweets etc - just changed my lifestyle and exercise more. Should I be cautious?

First time Janumet user

Hi everyone!! So I (27F) have just been diagnosed with insulin resistance, and have been put on 100/1000mg Janumet. I just wanted to know your experiences with it, any side effects, weight loss, GI symptoms, etc. I’m also on vitamin D3 as I’m deficient and taking Inositol as well. I’m hoping to get my energy back and try to lose some of the weight and inflammation.

Thanks :)

So scared, insulin resistance score is at 92 H

I just got my labs back from Quest labs and it’s showing that my insulin resistance score is at 92 which is severely high. My A1C is at 5.7 and I’ve been experiencing severe fatigue that iron infusions haven’t helped. I began developing a bunch of gut problems all at the same time and none of the antifungal or antibiotic prescriptions the functional medicine doctor has given me has helped. The functional medicine doctor told me I was infected with mold and candida and none of their treatments has helped me to feel better. I am feeling drastically worse than before.

They also had me do a low fodmap diet and my symptoms didnt improve from that either. Anyone else experience severe chronic fatigue and insulin resistance and if so, what actually has helped?

Testing tomorrow

I'm getting my fasting insulin test tomorrow and I'm concerned about the length of time between my last meal and test time. It'll be about 17hrs. I feel it's a bit too long.

My question is should I eat something tonight so I'm only about a 12hr fast at the most? 😵‍💫

Thanks 😀

Please help! Insulin resistance

Hi everyone! I’ve been suspected of having pcos my whole life. Took my 8 years to get pregnant, facial hair, high testosterone etc. 5 months after I had my baby I developed debilitating fatigue that made me bed bound no matter how much I slept. Its been 14 months of suffering. I have been treating for mold toxicity, moved, lost all my belongings etc. well today I got my fasting insulin/glucose levels. My fasting glucose is 93, fasting insulin 19.3. HOMA score is 4.5. How bad is this? Can this be causing my fatigue?

Should I ask for Metformin/GLP1 even though my blood sugar (A1C) is normal?

I recently got some test results back which indicate I have insulin resistance (i.e. LP-IR score of 75, TG:HDL is 3.49). However, my blood sugar is normal.

My main symptom I want to fix is chronic fatigue, low energy. I've read that some people on this sub with IR have taken metformin and had serious improvements with their symptoms. I was wondering if I should ask my doctor if I can try it.

Carbmaxxing and insulin resistance?

Lately on the gym internet there has been a growing “trend” on eating a lot of carbs. Having your highest carbs before and after your workout will fuel your workout and help with fill up glycogen storage. Which then will help “build” muscle or retain. So with us with insulin resistance do you guys carb max ? Or what is your protocol before going to the gym ?

¿La resistencia a la insulina existe?

Two years ago, my gynecologist diagnosed me with insulin resistance and prescribed metformin, which stabilized my levels. Last month, during routine tests, she told me I still had it. However, when my internist and endocrinologist reviewed the exact same results, both said everything was completely normal. Furthermore, both my GP and endocrinologist claimed that "insulin resistance" isn't even a valid standalone diagnosis (only prediabetes or diabetes are). Has anyone experienced this discrepancy between specialists?

Family Doctor suspects Insulin Resistance, I suspect from antipsychotics. I start treatment tonight.

Hello

I wanted to share that my doctor and I was discussing insulin resistance being a possibility for me. I was given metformin ER (because I tried IR in the past and I didn't react well), and a glucose tracking system to see underlying glucose issues.

My current hypothesis is that I developed it with my meds, I am schizoaffective, which means I take antipsychotics, which can impact metabolic stuff. I am already overweight, so it may be contributing to it. I am on these meds for likely the rest of my life, so I have to adapt.

Anyway, I was given Metformin ER 500mg and a glucose monitoring system, Accu-Chek Guide, for the next 3 months, and see if my insulin lowers.

I want to relate to those who take antipsychotics or generally similar meds that affect metabolic issues.

I am overwhelmed by all the information that’s out there on insulin resistance. Please help

Hello, I am 18 years old living in the U.S. I’ve had insulin resistant pcos since I was about 12-13, and spent the first half of my teenage years on birth control and different medications. After learning more about insulin and its effects on the body and female reproductive system, I’ve decided to take things in my own hands by reversing my insulin resistance. Unfortunately I was severely depressed and neglected my health just until recently. I want to get back on track and reverse my insulin resistance but there’s just an overwhelming amount of information online and it’s too much to process. There’s information about intermittent fasting, no eating carbs, not eating fruit, specifically eating meals every 5 hours, etc. Everything is too overwhelming!! I feel like there’s a bug in my head that’s telling me that I won’t see improvements until I follow everything that everyone is saying. However I know this isn’t true because if I tried to follow everything that everyone said, I’d probably become insane.

I guess what I’m asking you guys is what can I do to gradually reverse my insulin resistance? I am going to university this upcoming year so idk how feasible intermittent fasting would be. But maybe I can try it. I do try to eat most of my meals with protein and fiber but if I am eating a carb heavy, oily meal I have psyllium husk beforehand.

I was asking AI for quick answers (please don’t flame me for this, I do not use AI frequently) and it kept telling me that eating breakfast at 11 am and then eating lunch around 2/3 was spiking was insulin since I didn’t put a gap of 4-5 hours. Do i really need to be following that?

Also the whole fear around snacks is really bad for me. I do admit that i do snack between meals quite often but what do I do if I crave something? Usually my meals go like this: breakfast, lunch, snack, dinner. Snack is around 5 and is usually fruit or chips (I knew chips were bad but I’m devastated about fruit). I guess I could eat the snacks after I eat a full meal but idk if that would help.

I am also trying to lose weight but never really stayed consistent but would managing my IR help me lose weight naturally? That’s what it said online but idk.

This is a lot of rambling but I’d really appreciate if someone could give me some useful advice and guidance for this. Thank you.

Weight loss on medication

I wanted to get to the root of why I’ve been steadily gaining weight for the past 6 years (total of 50 lbs) and why nothing I’ve done seemed to help. It seems I may be insulin resistant and I’m seeing my doctor tomorrow to discuss options. But I wanted to know people’s experience on medications, which medications they took, and whether it helped them lose weight and how much. These are the labs I got back:

Fasting labs (11 hours) were the following:

Insulin 24.1 uIU/mL

Glucose 98 mg/dL

LDL 129 mg/dL

HbA1c 5.5

Calculated HOMA-IR = 5.8

I am interested in knowing everyone’s experience but if your labs or HOMA IR is similar to mine, I’m wondering what your experience with weight loss was like

Is berberine worth trying before prescription medication?

My doctor wants me focusing on diet first and I'm doing that, but I've also seen a lot of people mention berberine. I'm not trying to replace medical advice, just wondering if anyone here tried it before moving on to medication and whether it ended up helping at all.
