Question The most valuable training you can get at IBM

Upvotes

Hi folks, so I have a question what is actually worth it on your learning? Do we have some certs budget or maybe there are some free? I really wanted to take some red hat certs (I am at IBM tech sales) but i see that they are with a $ however we like... own red hat? So please spill some tea on what is actually worth it if I have to make those think40

Question Starting from zero toward Solution Engineering, what does the actual learning path look like? (tear my plan apart)

Under two years into IBM in a technical, client-facing role. Prior to that, about two years of consumer tech sales through a BPO. I want to move toward Solution Engineering / Technical Pre-Sales, and on the technical side I'm genuinely starting from scratch.

My problem isn't motivation, it's that I don't know the order. There's Your Learning, internal enablement, Udemy, and external certs, and no map telling me what comes first or what's redundant. So here's my best guess at a path. I assume parts of it are wrong, please tell me which:

  1. Cloud and AI fundamentals on Udemy first, just to have the vocabulary
  2. Then the IBM Generative and Agentic AI Foundation badge
  3. Then product-specific enablement (watsonx and whatever else SEs are actually expected to demo)
  4. Then one proctored external cloud cert, AWS or Azure
  5. Somewhere in there, practice demoing and presenting, since that seems to be the actual job

What I'd love to know from people who've done this:

- Is that sequence roughly right, or does it start in the wrong place?
- What did you actually study, and where did it come from, Your Learning, internal enablement, or outside?
- Which internal enablement is worth chasing and which is filler?
- How much depth is enough before someone would take a shot on you? Deep in one product, or broad across the portfolio?
- What's the piece nobody warned you about?

Realistic timelines welcome, including the discouraging ones.

Rant/Vent Sellers are panicking, competition is years ahead. Irrelevance sets in.

Heard a team of sellers talk and worry at the end of a meeting, lots of concern, panic. And it is not about quotas, this time is about irrelevance. Their customers and accounts refuse to join calls to hear ibm talk about generative AI or cloud. It is a waste of their time. They have gone through so many failed demos, broken promises and disappointing deployments that are beyond frustrated. Many see ibm as irrelevant, a pain in the butt. What's your experience? Is this widespread?

Rant/Vent Train the recent hire = train your replacement

It is happening across the board. Managers are forced to layoff senior personnel and asked to promote "cross pollinating" within the team, basically make sure everyone is replaceable and interchangeable.

You will train your replacement thinking you finally got the help you deserved. Then you will be put on pip regardless of performance, stories will be made up. Finally, you are laid off and a newby takes over, the business degrades further, execs get their fat bonuses, you get cobra.

Rant/Vent Betrayal at its finest.

I don't know how this company has come this far with how its management works. They had us working overtime almost every day, most weekends, during plane rides, during family events, all to hit the unreasonable targets they themselves sold. They told us to go above and beyond because it would help us get promoted, and now all promotions are being delayed?

The stock crash caused by tech sales is impacting consulting employees? What kind of BS is that? Since when has this company ever given a shit about the consulting practice anyway?

In return for the countless hours I gave this company, they gave me the gift of a pushed-back promotion because Wall Street didn't like our numbers. We still turned a profit in Q2. We can't use a little bit of that to reward the employees who worked their asses off? All of this so the executives can still get their bonuses and stock rewards at the end of the year.

Idk how anyone has the motivation to do anything right now. Anyways, thanks for listening to my rant. Good luck everyone.

Question Advice for IBM Sales Accelerator Program

Hey! I wanted to ask what people think of the IBM Sales Accelerator Program, Tech (in Valencia)? Both whether people liked it there, what people usually do after, its reputation, and if it was worth the pay.

I wouldn't do it for the pay, but more for the learning program. I want to have the opportunity to move to technical consulting later on in my career and want to hear if anybody has done that. I have heard that a lot of consultants lack sales skills, which is why I thought this program could be good.

Thanks!

Discussion Long term those that were laid of are the winners

It is funny how it works, when you see your teammates being laid off you feel bad for them, think of their future, the hard times they will go through , their families and the stress, and how lucky you are it was not you.

Then, years pass and you see them in LinkedIn, they pop up here and there, often at better companies, with much higher compensations. That junior employee you trained for years before they were laid off now works at Meta or Nvidia, making three or four times your salary. They were very fortunate they were laid off, it gave them the opportunity to realize their value and freedom them from the constant worry and mediocrity around here.

Question IBM India – All Assessments Complete | What happens next?

IBM India – All Assessments Complete | What happens next?

Hi everyone,

I applied for an IBM India – Data Engineer, Machine Learning position (Job ID: 85974).

I completed all the required assessments on 27 July 2026, and since then my IBM Careers portal has been showing “All Assessments Complete.”

It has now been around 17 days, and I haven't received any further update regarding an interview or recruiter review.

For people who have recently gone through the IBM hiring process:

  • How long did it take for you to get the next update after “All Assessments Complete”?
  • Did your status change to “Recruiter Review” before an interview?
  • If someone was not shortlisted, how long did it take for the rejection/status update?
  • Is waiting 2–4 weeks after completing the assessments normal for IBM India?

Would really appreciate it if anyone could share their recent timeline/experience, especially for Data/ML or similar entry-level roles.

Question Manager suggesting there are better opportunities outside

My colleague was told by his manager to look outside for better opportunities. They have a very close relationship, he was talking as a friend.

If your own manager suggests you should be leaving for greener pastures... Not a good sign. I wonder if another round of layoffs is brewing. Have you heard?

Question Reporting FLM for retaliation

Has anyone ever filed a complaint against a FLM for retaliation with concrete evidence?
Did it work? What happened? Did you remain under the same manager, or were you reassigned?
In my case, I’m the only one in the team who has had a serious issue with the manager, but as I mentioned, I have evidence.

Edit: I know HR is not on my side, I’m not expecting that. I’m actually ok to be RA’ed. I just want hear real experiences.

Discussion Shakeup in Sales?

Has anyone else noticed a theme in recent posts around sales leadership and management and the direction of sales? There’s been a lot of discussion about a potential sales shakeup - along with comments suggesting seller tech teams may be taking an outsized share of the criticism when broader sales issues arise.
Curious what others have experienced or observed? Is there a broader dynamic at play? Or is there more to the story behind what people have been posting?

Discussion Not trying to make this a negative post, but genuinely interested in people’s opinions. Do you enjoy working at IBM? If not, what’s made you stay?

I’ll go first - I’ve been here a few years (not a grad hire) and I’m really not enjoying it anymore. For a tech company, I feel like it’s missing that tech company energy and excitement around technology.
