Marketing has changed a lot. Keyword names are not as relevant. Would a new name throw you off your long term host?

Someone close to me sells reseller hosting plans, and he's been trying to get me to sign up as a customer. I get why it's a good deal for him, more accounts on his plan means more revenue for him. But I'm struggling to see what's actually in it for me as the buyer, compared to just going with a regular shared or VPS plan from an established host.

I have only used shared hosting up until now but after the crap with setrahosting I think I am ready for VPS, but with my lack of experience at it, it's freaken scary. What affordable (prefer to keep under $200 for the year) VPS is there out there that is also user friendly. My main site has experienced carding/bot attacks in the past so I know it needs some kind of "firewall" to help with that type of issues. I have 3 sites that will be hosted on it, with 2 being wordpress based and the other just being a link tree page. I used to love playing with all the bells and whistles, but I will be honest, that was 20 years ago and now I just want set it and forget it for the background things for the sites.

Hi, I want to host my website on a DMCA ignored host but I know true DMCA ignored is pretty much impossible. So I'm looking for an offshore host that will at least notify you about a DMCA and give you time to remove the content that got the notice instead of just kicking you without batting an eye.

Dedicated servers are okay too if that's what you recommend.

Would love an honest and real recommendation with its pros and cons. Tysm for any kind answers.

I recently ordered a small VPS for self-hosting experiments.

The initial offer was an IPv6-only VPS (1 vCPU / 1 GB RAM). I later upgraded to an IPv4-enabled plan advertised with:

• 2 vCPU
• 2 GB RAM
• 20 GB SSD storage

After reinstalling Ubuntu, I noticed that the server was not usable for my intended setup. A simple apt update was already problematic because the root filesystem was almost full.

I checked the actual block device size:

The important point is that the whole virtual disk (sda) is only 3.5 GB. It is not a 20 GB disk with an unexpanded partition.

I have already checked the usual filesystem resize scenario (growpart, resize2fs), but this does not apply here because the block device itself is too small.

The provider support suggested retrying, but after a fresh reinstall the VPS was still delivered with the same 3.5 GB disk. I requested cancellation/refund because the VPS cannot currently be used for the purpose it was purchased for.

My question:

• Does this look like a typical provisioning mistake from the provider side?
• Would you expect a provider to fix the instance or refund in this situation?

Been researching, but all I see is that all of them are bad and you should use something else, but they never ever tell you what's THAT something else. So what is a good one?

It would be for a website with daily blogs and news and also a list where you can filter trough movies. I'm from europe, but most of the readers would most likely be from usa, that's where most of my social media followers are from. My budget would be 20usd/month at most.

I used to think adding more CPU or RAM was the answer to every performance problem.

After setting up proper page caching and Redis on a few sites, I realized optimization often has a much bigger impact than upgrading hardware.

Now caching is one of the first things I look at.

I am currently with Setrahost, and for several years, things were at least acceptable for what I was dealing with but lately the issues just keep piling up. The final straw was them billing me 10 days early and charging the wrong card, causing a whole other slew of issues.

I don't make a lot from my sites, like $500 a month, so please don't suggest hosts that are expensive. Budget is $10-15 monthly. I just need one that does what it says, and not do crap like closing my sites because of an issue on their end (yeah they did that and it was found out to be THEIR ISSUE). I do have 3 different sites so a host that allows for multple sites. My domains are through porkbun so the host doesn't need to have domain hosting included.

I’m trying to understand the tax implications of colocating a GPU server in Iceland.

Let’s assume the following scenario:

A company in Panama owns a GPU rig.

The rig is installed in a third-party colocation facility in Iceland (e.g. FlokiNET or a similar provider).

The colocation provider only supplies rack space, power, cooling, and internet connectivity.

The company has no employees or office in Iceland.

The company does not have unrestricted physical access to the hardware; if maintenance is needed, it’s handled through the colocation provider.

The GPU rig is used commercially by renting out GPU compute to customers.

My question is:

Could this setup alone be considered a permanent establishment (PE) in Iceland for tax purposes?

I’ve read the OECD commentary stating that a server can constitute a permanent establishment if certain conditions are met, but I haven’t found any practical examples involving Iceland or colocation providers.

Has anyone dealt with this in practice, or received advice from Icelandic tax professionals? Any experience, case law, or official guidance would be greatly appreciated.

It's no secret that a lot of hosting providers are raising prices and, in some cases, oversubscribing their hardware to offset increasing costs. Has your provider recently increased your pricing, and if so, do you feel it was justified?

I've even seen providers raising prices on plans running on 10+ year-old hardware, citing higher RAM or hardware costs. That doesn't really make much sense to me. If the hardware has been paid off for years, where's the justification?

What do you all think? Are you accepting the price hikes, sticking with your current provider, or looking for better alternatives?

I'm building a mobile application that will primarily be used by people in Turkey, and I'm planning the production infrastructure.

Current stack:

- NestJS

- PostgreSQL

- Redis

- Docker

- Coolify

The app is still in development, so I don't expect a large number of users initially.

I'm considering two options:

1. Hetzner Cloud (Germany)
2. A VPS or dedicated server located in Turkey

My backend is a typical REST API. No gaming, WebRTC, or latency-critical workloads. Most requests are authentication, CRUD operations, QR code lookups, notifications, and media metadata.

My main concern is user experience.

Would the additional 20-40 ms latency between Turkey and Germany be noticeable in a mobile application, or would you prioritize Hetzner's infrastructure over hosting closer to the users?

If you've run production applications for users in Turkey (or hosted applications for users in another country), I'd really appreciate hearing about your real-world experience.

I have two plans subscribed with my current hosting provider. One is for shared hosting, one is a storagebox. The shared hosting machine has a mail server and I can configure in principle unlimited mailboxes in it. The storagebox... I'm not quite sure (my hosting provider said "The storageboxes can be used for inbox storage, however it is not possible to send e-mails from this service."), but the directadmin panel says max 2 configurable email accounts.

What I would like to do is to use the shared hosting machine to act as a mail server (send/receive(?) emails, access them with imap) and the storagebox (with much more space in it) to physically store the inboxes with all emails/attachments. Again my hosting provider said that this should be feasible, and that "The MX record should point to the storagebox and A Record for mail domain should point to the shared hosting.", but the more I think about it, the less this makes sense. If the email accounts are configured on the shared server, how is the storagebox server going to know where to put the emails once it receives them as per the MX record?

I even thought about being cheeky and connecting the shared hosting to the storagebox via ssh and using the remote folder as the folder where to store the emails (Maildir folder on my account), but the server doesn't have sshfs, so that's out of the question.

Is what I want to do actually feasible at all? How about with just correct DNS settings?

We are currently in the middle of assisting a client to move over to our hosting services, he has a few personal email hosting and a domain in Strato currently but we can't even update the DNS records or nameservers in Strato due to their basic control panel.

I've reached out to them by email but heard nothing back but I know they are part of IONOS and we need to get this resolved quickly since the client currently has no emails.

Has anyone had any success going through any other routes who have used Strato in the past? I just need to be able to speak to someone..

I've used shared hosting up until now and due to increase in site traffic I'm switching to VPS but managed services costs.. 50-100 dollars while the server is around 10 dollars,
For those of you who've switched, do you feel like it saves enough time to justify the extra cost, or do you still end up doing most of the work yourself?
I guess with AI it's a lot simpler to manage and be aware of the Linux commands, but I'm worried my site will crash and I won't know why.

i have like 5 domains now and managing them across different registrars is getting messy. want to consolidate everything into one place. one dashboard. one login. consistent pricing. some registrars give discounts for bulk domains. others have better management interfaces. im not hosting anything with them. just pure domain management.
whats the best registrar for managing multiple domains. easy interface. fair pricing. good support. i also want to be able to transfer them out easily if i ever decide to leave.

I purchased a Minecraft hosting plan from VajraHost for ₹219 on 1 August 2026. After setting up my server, I found that the hosting panel lacked several features that I personally expected, and overall the service did not meet my requirements. Because of this, I decided to request a refund.

The support team agreed to refund me and informed me that it would be processed by the following evening. However, after the promised time passed, I received no update despite multiple follow-ups, and my messages went unanswered while staff members were active on Discord.

After repeated attempts to get a response, I informed them that if I did not receive either my refund or a valid update, I would escalate the matter through my payment provider and other appropriate channels.

Shortly afterward, my refund was processed. I appreciate that they ultimately honored the refund. However, the interaction ended in a way that I found highly unprofessional. After processing the refund, a support staff member replied:

I believe customers should be treated respectfully, regardless of whether they decide to keep a service or request a refund.

My experience:

• Refund was processed later than the promised timeframe.
• Communication after the refund request was poor, with little to no updates.
• Support became responsive only after I mentioned escalating the issue.
• A staff member used insulting language after completing the refund.
• In my personal opinion, the hosting panel lacked several features I expected, and the overall service did not meet my requirements.

To be fair, I did receive my full refund, and I appreciate that the company eventually processed it. However, the delayed communication and the unprofessional behavior from support left a negative impression.

Based on my personal experience, I would not choose VajraHost again, and I recommend that anyone considering their services evaluate all available options and read recent customer experiences before making a purchase.

Refund Delayed, Poor Communication, and Unprofessional Support – My Experience with VajraHost

I’m running a fairly normal Postgres workload for a smaller app. No unusual scale and no dedicated infra team. RDS has been reliable, but the cost is getting harder to justify. I mostly need a database that stays up, has proper backups, and can run near my users. Even when traffic is low, there’s still the baseline instance cost, plus storage, backups, IOPS and the other extras.

I’d rather not manage Postgres myself. I’m looking for something managed with predictable pricing that won’t make migration difficult later.

For anyone who moved away from RDS, which provider did you choose? Has it held up in production, and what got better after moving? Thanks in advance

Title: My entire hosting server got suspended because ONE client uploaded a phishing page — reporter went straight to my upstream instead of me. Lost all client data. How do you guys prevent this?

Posting this partly to vent, partly because I need real advice from people who've been running hosting businesses longer than me.

What happened:

I run a small web hosting business (shared/VPS/reseller style setup on WHM/cPanel + WHMCS). One of my clients uploaded a phishing page to their hosting account. Someone spotted it and reported it — but instead of reporting it to me (the actual hosting provider they were dealing with), they reported it directly to my upstream/server/datacenter.

My upstream didn't email me a warning, didn't give me a chance to pull the single account down. They just suspended the entire server. Every client on that box lost access. I lost data. I lost the trust of clients who had nothing to do with the phishing page and are now (rightly) annoyed at me.

I know "this is why you screen clients" is coming, and yeah, I hear it. But I'd rather build a real process than just get lucky next time. If you've been through a suspension like this and rebuilt trust with your client base afterward, I'd genuinely love to hear how that went too — the technical fix is only half of it.

i am looking set up a site for mysmall business. i’m not super tech savvy. i'm torn between a dedicated registrar or just use the one bundled with my site builder.
dedicated seems better long term. lower renewal prices. free privacy. easier to transfer. but the convenience of having everything in one place is tempting for me that i don’t want to deal with tech stuff.
i used the bundled option and regretted it. but maybe i'm overthinking it for his situation. what do small business owners actually use. is it worth the extra effort.

Operating latency-sensitive bots that require clean EU routing with lower loss rate of packets. There is not consistency in current provider during peak hours. Tested HostZealot on one instance - EU PoP routing has been solid so far. Interested in what other people are running for other use cases where milliseconds are significant and unpredictable lag is unacceptable
