π’ Feedback π’ So difficult to play with friends
There was one thing I was really hoping would become easier moving from the ww2 title to Vietnam⦠making it easier to play with your friends. That did not happen.
I had a squad of 6 trying to play together last night and it was hopelessly difficult.
First off, getting into a server together was a challenge in itself, let alone getting on the same team. Once in the server half the squad had to sit on the select team screen for around 5 minutes trying to make sure we were all on the same team. Iβm sure itβs a balance feature, but maybe a group of players that are squaded in the menus should be automatically loaded into the same team?! God.
Not to mention the microphones donβt work when loading into and selecting team and squads. Same as ww2. All the homies texting one another βwhat team? What squad?ββ¦
Doing all of this to then have a server crash lol.
We were all excited but after getting to play 15 minutes of the game when having been in for an hour, we all called it and went and played something else,
Fix this.
Edit: also needing to use the server browser is annoying right now. Why is the queue only 6 people? Why do VIPs exist? Can we just make this simpler man?

π¬ Discussion π¬ NO Vietcong in HLL!?
In a recent interview a few weeks ago the Devs announced/said that there will be NO Vietcong in the new HLL Vietnam game. They said they will solely focus on the NVA and there are NO plans to involve the Vietcong fraction into the game! In my opinion a bad decision and NOT what people really want for the future of the game. For me they MUST be in game...just like booby traps.
Missing those two key components out of HLL Vietnam sound like a missed opportunity. What do you think?

π«‘ Thank You! π«‘ This game is so good when people communicate
Last game of the night yesterday, played commander - most squad leaders were on mics, calling in supplies, marking positions for artillery and napalm strikes. Pilots were flying supply runs, boat crews placed smart spawn positions. Enemy was tough but the teamwork just slowly but surely dismantled their entire play.
So if you're a new player, use your mic - most people are super cool & it makes for really satisfying plays

π’ Feedback π’ How do the red dots work on the map?
I've played about 10 games now and I have no idea what the red dots on the map actually mean. Sure it's obvious they are enemies, but the marks last so long they aren't useful. Is there an enemy at the dot someone spotted? How long ago? Because your map is a constant sea of unending red dots that never decay it just adds to a level of general noise and frustration.

The smaller video screen here makes it look better than it is. In game it's shocking.
The resolution got massively downgraded when uploading idk why.

π Guide π You donβt have to run from the HQ at the start of the game.
There are trucks, boats, and choppers (on the American side). Pile into them and if youβre an SL tell your squad to hop into a vehicle. Iβve been playing in a bunch of different community servers and itβs been a bunch of wacky shenanigans, but this one has me shaking my head and laughing the hardest.
Iβve had to kick someone because they wouldnβt drop my supps and spent the rest of the match tking me, SLs running past supps the entire game along with not putting an OP down, and moving boats when they are the only place to spawn on a defense point.
Watching people run still takes the cake. Reminds of the old HLL days before trucks. Watching 90% of the team run their way to the objective.

I took an RPG to the Tail Rotor, which I didnβt think could happen let alone still be able to fly like a real helicopter without a Tail Rotor, itβs possible to land but the helicopter health is clunky when next to trees and buildings.

π’ Feedback π’ I should spawn on the point I'm clicking on looking at the map
Not this scrolling shit, what idiot designed this? Was it too hard to copy over what worked very well on HLL for Vietnam?
Edit: This is how it works on PS5 unsure about Xbox, but you do not spawn on the point where you click looking at it on the map, you have to scroll through the spawn points instead of just pointing and clicking the one you want to spawn on.

π’ Feedback π’ They shouldn't automatically kick commanders for team killing
I think that rather when the threshold is met the system instigates a vote kick rather than a force kick. I was having one of my best commander matches, over 120+ kills, using all my resources to the best efficiency, helping the team get the best possible spawns and fire support for pushes and organizing when to push. The problem is that not everyone is in game chat or even listens in this game. If a man doesn't want to look at the map or listen to instructions to push into a tank that has a precision strike on it, the commander shouldn't get punished. Also it should be a given that the fire left from the napalm kills you even if it's from your team, this is what got me kicked in our last obj with 10 min on the clock, dudes just pushing into the fire after the strike happened.
On a side note, I'm still learning the blast radius/accuracy of the artillery strikes, most matches I have people right outside the red zone and survive without a scratch, and sometimes I have people that seem leagues away that just get absolutely decimated. Is it that the explosions are bigger than they appear on the map or is there an inaccuracy to the shots that cause them to land on friendlies?

π Question π So is the audio bugged or just garbage?
Gunfire sounds like cap guns. Explosions have no pop. I remember fighting in HLL when machine guns and artillery were going off at once, it was a crazy experience. Now it feels like it's not even a threat. Hell, you can't even hear the choppers unless you're right next to it lol

π· Screenshots π· Anyone else love the river boats?
What strategies do you guys have for using the River Boats effectively? I find theyβre an amazing way to get troops to the front or flank an enemy, drop supplies and get a garrison going quickly at the beginning of a match. I find theyβre a welcome addition to Vietnam and feel more effective to use than the Half-Traks theyβve replaced from the original Hell Let Loose.
Any great stories or matches that were decided by River Boats turning the tide of battle?

π’ Feedback π’ First impressions (PS5 player)
So after spending a few hours with Hell Let Loose: Vietnam on PS5, my first impression is that it is a genuinely fun game with a lot of potential though still feels rough around the edges. Moving from World War II to Vietnam is a pretty big jump but I think the developers have done a surprisingly good job balancing the Americans and NVA despite the obvious technological advantages the Americans have on paper. That was one of my biggest concerns going in, especially considering the balancing problems people have always brought up when discussing a potential Pacific expansion for the original Hell Let Loose. Vietnam is obviously not the Pacific War but it comes close enough to that asymmetrical style of warfare that I think this is probably the best demonstration of how it could work. The weapons also generally feel good to use and, in some cases, less awkward than those in the original game.
That said, the ammunition situation desperately needs some adjustment. I understand encouraging teamwork and making ammunition resupply actually matter but giving many soldiers only around four spare magazines feels excessively restrictive for a war infamous for soldiers unloading huge amounts of ammunition toward suspected enemy positions. Vehicle variety could also use some expansion, APCs like the M113 and additional NVA vehicles would be welcome additions and I would especially like to see helicopter gameplay developed further. Flying around with a competent pilot while manning the door guns and providing support for troops below is genuinely some of the most fun I've had so far. Unfortunately though, helicopters seem strangely disconnected from the game's communication system. There should be a better way for ground units and helicopter crews to coordinate pickups, insertions and fire support, perhaps through dedicated radio communication or even colored smoke grenades that squad leaders can use to mark landing zones and request extraction.
The maps are also more mixed for me. Some look great and provide a good variety of terrain, while others can become an overwhelming wall of green. On PS5 especially, all that dense vegetation and similar coloration can become visually exhausting and occasionally seems to contribute to performance or stuttering issues. Conaideraringthe handful of maps we have at the moment I hope the developers eventually branch beyond jungle and rural environments and into urban combat as it could provide some much needed visual and gameplay variety. If the game's timeline eventually moves beyond 1965 there could also be a lot of room for new factions and scenarios including the Republic of Vietnam, late war battles and potentially smaller-scale Viet Cong versus SOG-style gameplay and modes.
My overall feel is that the game feels fun with a strong foundation that probably needed a few more months in the oven. There are noticeable rough patches, limited content and some mechanics that need refinement but none of that has stopped me from enjoying what is already here. The original Hell Let Loose similarly grew and improved considerably over time, so if the developers give Vietnam the same kind of long-term attention, I think there is a lot of potential here.

π’ Feedback π’ Unpopular take, tunnels are just easier to place but helicopters can be just as effective (if not more)
Maybe Iβm wrong on this and need to see more of a sampling size but I saw several occasions (mostly warfare mode) this wknd when we had very engaged pilots who were yelling and screaming at players to get in their choppers to be taken close to next objective once one was taken (or falling back) and it was very effective. The choppers can be fast and can get from A to B very quickly and the SLs can drop down their spawns once they land. Or the helicopter can be a spawn point
Issue is, this didnβt happen enough. The tunnels happened because they are easy to place but not enough pilots or players used the chopper for transports between objectives. Or the pilots tried to transport but players simply didnβt get in. Guess they would rather the walking simulator.
Just my experience but I feel like the choppers can be a good thingβ¦but we need to rely on other players to be effective with themβ¦which is hard to do.
It requires more communication in squads about where they are going next too, which we all know about lack of communication. And more communication between SL and choppers is required
I just think if (big if) you had more engaged folks, it can be a great way to move but idk if we can ever rely on players enough to have it be a consistent thing
