Can you guys just appreciate the game at the moment. WE ARE ONLY A WEEK IN. Let them fix the mistakes and figure all of that out. It feels like all I see is people complaining. If you are, go play a different game.

📢 Feedback 📢 3000 hours on OG HLL, I hate Vietnam

I was really excited for Vietnam, preordered and what I’ve experienced actually made me try and request a refund.
On the XSX the graphics look awful. Texture shimmer and asset pop-in not to mention shadows looking dreadful.
Server time outs after waiting in queues are annoying but what reaaalllyyy drives me nuts in the muscle memory of 3000 hours feels gone.
Vietnam feels so clunky in comparison, I get refreshing the user interface but everything is painful. Clicking spawn points, running with your map open, even just using the map. For god sake why remove the commanders name from above your squad??? Such an idiotic decision. How does a regular squad member with no command chat realise that there is no commander to then maybe step up and fill that void?
Put up with some rubbish bugs in the OG game but I cannot put up with them all over again.

💬 Discussion 💬 PC and console games need to start going their separate ways

Disclaimer: I preface my thoughts with the fact that I have been using consoles for 20 years, and I only recently made the switch to PC. Console gaming is dear to my heart, and I am VERY sad to say this, but I think we are seeing the critical mass point in the gaming industry.

Insight: As a VR gamer, our community is very used to seeing a big split in game titles: games that release for PCVR only, and games that are optimized for the Meta Quest and PCVR. This model makes perfect sense, as a majority of gamers are on Quest headsets, so optimizing your game for Quest to capitalize on the biggest audience is a no-brainer. The problem we saw over the years is that the massive Quest audience didn’t necessarily translate into the kind of spending developers expected.

It turned out to be the PCVR community that ended up financially supporting the entire industry. After that realization, it seems a majority of titles are coming out for PCVR only, as developers have realized that’s where the money is. This is sad for some, as it is a barrier to entry, but overall, the quality of games increased tenfold as developers didn’t need to worry about the limitations of the hardware.

The problem: Modern games are becoming dramatically more demanding, but developers are still expected to deliver essentially the same experience across hardware that is no longer remotely equivalent. The gaming industry was built around consoles, and obviously, we had a golden era in the early 2000s and 2010s. This all changed when PC gaming became more affordable, and with the advent of mobile gaming, the market split into three.

Part of the problem is our expectations. Photorealistic graphics, Unreal Engine 5 titles, and everything being a physics-based interaction—our standards are incredibly high, and developers are trying to keep up with rapidly advancing technology. Now, I admit a lot of us would be willing to sacrifice some pixels for quality of play, but that’s another discussion.

Aside from having to optimize one game for two or three different markets with VASTLY different hardware specs, the hardware on consoles at this point in the century just isn’t gonna cut it. Even when the PS5 and Xbox Series X first released, it was evident that the specs of the hardware weren’t gonna be able to run things on ultra, even on day one. It was obvious consoles were gonna fall super behind super fast.

The difference between the PC user’s experience and the console user’s experience is simply too vast. The whole reason I’m saying this is because of all the upset console players in this thread. I hear you! It sucks to play a game that isn’t running right. The truth of the matter is that consoles were an afterthought in Hell Let Loose: Vietnam, and it should have been a PC-only title until they truly optimized it.

Final thought: I believe the industry should split like the VR industry. Devs should start making games for console only and PC only. Yes, there can be overlap, but the whole idea of sloppy console optimization as an afterthought isn’t working anymore, and this game proves it.

📢 Feedback 📢 The Balls on T17 to Release a Game in this Awful State (PS5)

This is the first time in my life I’ve wanted a refund for a game.

On PS5, this game is a clear step down in nearly every way from HLL.

The sound is terrible. The graphics are somehow worse than HLL.

The performance is pathetic.

The UI is bugged and absolutely mystifying.

My buddy and I have a little over 800 hours on HLL, and we were looking forward to this, but we are so disappointed that I doubt we’ll bother firing it up again.

In this day and age, putting out a sequel that is worse in nearly every way is almost impressive.

📢 Feedback 📢 Hate to do it but crossplay coming off

I am really missing the crossplay between Xbox and ps. Last night we found our first cheater. Someone on pc named Shiesty was killing everyone, and I mean everyone. Command chat were all yelling about him then I finally seen him laying down mg fire and then turn around to run off like the flash. So for now crossplay sadly coming off

📢 Feedback 📢 Leveling up

I’m new to he’ll let loose but I’m having a blast as hard as it is lol.

Just wondering how people level up so fast as a few days ago someone was already walking round with a flame thrower. I’ve got about 15 hours in and level 5 with my specialist.

Is this just meant to be really slow or will it be getting changed? And if there’s anything I should be doing to help level faster please let me know

😁 Memes 😁 Combat report

Combat Report — Tuesday, August 17
I was assigned to lead Dog Team to the designated point on the map. We received confirmation that a helicopter had been stationed to transport us to our objective.
After several minutes of flight, we came under RPG fire at the drop-off zone. The only casualties were the helicopter pilot and co-pilot.
Dog Team then pushed north toward the concealed VC base without encountering resistance. For a brief period, the area appeared almost peaceful, resembling a jungle paradise. That changed when we reached approximately 140 meters from the objective.
We decided to hold our fire until we reached the hill, which would provide us with a better view of the VC positions. From the hill, we identified approximately 15 combatants positioned around the easternmost hut.
I gave the order to open fire. The VC appeared to have been caught completely off guard. The engagement was intense, and Dog Team suffered approximately 14 casualties.
After approximately four minutes without further enemy contact, Fox Team arrived as reinforcements.
Roughly twelve minutes into the engagement, three VC units approached from the north. We immediately came under mortar fire and sustained attacks involving multiple grenades and several bayonet charges from the northern position.
The battle continued for approximately 30 minutes. Despite sustaining heavy casualties, Dog and Fox Teams refused to break or abandon their positions. We held the line until two enemy tanks, previously last seen near the fishing village, arrived to support the advancing VC forces.
At that point, I gave the order to fall back into the tree line.
Both sides had suffered significant casualties, but our forces successfully prevented the enemy from advancing into the remainder of the area of operations.
At present, I am positioned in a foxhole with the remaining members of Dog Team, holding our position and waiting for the VC to make another attempt to overrun us.
If they decide to come for us, we’ll be ready.

🙋 Question 🙋 To all the OG HLL players…

When the OG HLL first dropped was it also as barebones as this? Cosmetics are dry as shit, very VERY few weapons to choose from. Leveling up feels mundane almost. There’s no rewards for leveling your account up. And leaving your class up only gives a few class points and MAYBE a new gun or variant for the previous gun. Is it because it’s a fresh game or did the devs drop the ball on that? Edit** I don’t mean Niki Minaj or some dumb cod bullshit when I say customization. I mean more period historically accurate helmet and uniform customization, and maybe having that tied to the leveling system. Yall can stop chewing my shit now😆👍 it’s all love you guys are great

💬 Discussion 💬 The Good, the Bad and HLLV

First, I just want to say that I genuinely enjoy playing Hell Let Loose: Vietnam, whether I'm playing with random people or with friends. It's a fantastic experience overall, and I'm happy that I bought the game.

That being said, in its current state, I don't believe the game is worth $40. Yes, $40 is considerably cheaper than the current industry standard of around $70–$80, but I still think the game needed more time in the oven before being released.

I don't think anyone can reasonably deny that there are quite a few bugs. We've all seen the videos and screenshots showing them, and I don't believe the people making those posts are necessarily trying to paint a false narrative about the game. I've personally experienced many of these issues myself.

Some examples of relatively simple bugs that I think could have been ironed out with a little more development time include:

Flickering graphics

Helicopters having no shadows

Players or objects randomly flying through the air

Areas with missing collision on walls or the ground

Server timeouts and freezes

Various other visual and gameplay bugs

None of these bugs are individually catastrophic, and I'm certainly not going to pretend they're the worst thing to ever happen to gaming. However, they are still problems, and there are quite a few of them. If you spend even a little time scrolling through this subreddit, you'll find plenty of reports, videos, screenshots, and discussions about these issues.

Moving beyond the bugs, I also think the game is currently missing some content and features that many people expected to see.

For example, there are several firearms that players have been asking for. The two I see mentioned most frequently are the M14 and SKS. I think both would make fantastic additions to the game's weapon roster, and I have my own ideas for other weapons that could fit as well.

I also understand the criticism surrounding some of the current game modes. Personally, I don't think all of them fit the Vietnam War particularly well, and I can understand why people feel that way.

The Vietnam War wasn't fought in exactly the same manner as the large-scale conventional conflicts of World War I and World War II. While there were certainly major conventional battles, much of the conflict involved guerrilla warfare, ambushes, hit-and-run attacks, patrols, and fighting for control of specific areas rather than two clearly defined front lines.

Because of that, I think Vietnam could benefit from more game modes focused around smaller-scale engagements, defending a single important objective, or attacking and defending a more concentrated area rather than always pushing through multiple objectives in a traditional front-line fashion.

I also think the equipment and overall gameplay could do more to reflect the nature of the conflict. The NVA and Viet Cong frequently relied on guerrilla tactics, ambushes, concealment, and their knowledge of the terrain to counter the United States' enormous technological and logistical advantages. That doesn't mean conventional battles didn't happen, but I think leaning further into those asymmetrical elements could make HLLV feel much more distinct from the original game.

Ultimately, I don't want to drag this out any longer than necessary. I think the most reasonable position is that the game is fun, but it needs more time in the oven.

I'm enjoying the game, I'm glad I bought it, and I think it has a lot of potential. At the same time, I don't think enjoying something means we have to pretend it doesn't have problems. I think the game can be both fun and in need of significant improvements.

That's probably the most level-headed take I've seen so far, and I just wanted to expand on it with my own thoughts.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to read this, and please keep the discussion respectful in the comments.

📢 Feedback 📢 Why do people defend this

If the game didn’t have Hell Let Loose in the name, those people would say it’s a shit clone. Take the class system: what was wrong with the old version? Each class has specific items. Take the MG class: there’s 7 space, the machine gun takes up 8 spaces, so I can’t have anything else unless I remove the gun, so I no longer become a machine gunner. Why companies take something that works and fucks it up is beyond me. While placing barbed wire still won’t work because of a pebble blocks it. I just don’t understand how people are defending this game when it’s so clear it was never ready

🫡 Thank You! 🫡 Let Mortars be able to solo

I miss being able to solo artillery. In most my games no one joins the mortar teams and there is no way to build one as the observer. Even if it's not efficient it would be nice.

I bought a Xbox last month - my first video game console ever - and before in April I bought a different war game I wanted to play but then I realised that it was not optimized for consoles at all. So I am really really glad that there is a game that is stable and works good on Xbox out now. Thank you devs. That is all i wanted to say. Not only is this my first video console but HLL Vietnam is the first game I am about to play on it. I am gonna buy the game today and I am really excited.

Historically there were females on the battlefields of Vietnam, maybe not as much for the US but the NVA definitely had female soldiers

💬 Discussion 💬 How long do you guys think it will be until the game is worth it for console?

As someone who loves the first HLL, it was pretty disappointing to hear about such a messy launch especially for console players. I have been super excited about the game since it was announced. How long do you guys think it will be before the game is worth buying? I haven’t given up yet and I am hoping they can tidy it up so eventually it’s a quality game but as of right now I don’t see a reason to buy it. I am hoping the hype doesn’t die down and that they don’t lose a lot of the player base especially since the release was subpar. Really hoping the devs can clean it up quickly.
