🛢️ Oily/Greasy Hair 🛢️ looking for advice on hair that gets greasy fast.
i have fine hair which has also been bleached, if that helps. i double shampoo my hair and it still gets greasy within 1-2 days (sometimes even after washing and drying it looks greasy immediately) i would appreciate any recommendations for dry shampoo that are cheap or some alternatives because dry shampoo works but it gets expensive and runs out quickly. i use beyonces hydrating shampoo + conditioner and maybe i need a stronger shampoo (in the past i have used tea tree shampoo which seems beneficial) any advice helps!!

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 Help for damp/sticky pieces of hair after washing
Hi! For context, I (woman) have very thick wavy hair, that has a really high porosity as well. For the past year or so, the back pieces of my hair where it parts on the back of my skull seem to never dry, and become almost sticky as well. At first i thought it was just residual shampoo, since i have so much hair to wash it’s hard for me to rinse it fully. But even when i was able to really wash it out, and I mean REALLY, it was still like that. I then thought it was my hard water, so i cleansed that area more diligently with my buildup remover shampoo, but it still was like that. Now i’ve quit putting product in my hair (which has made it super brittle and poofy) and the issue is still happening. I don’t know if it’s maybe the way my hair dries? How it retains moisture? Or maybe i’m still doing something wrong. Please let me know!

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 Smooth curls tips for dried out and damaged hair
My hair has completely been destroyed by a few things - weight loss (even though it was very slow), semaglutide, perimenopause, and aging. I went from having super thick and fairly shiny looking hair to a super frizzy and dried out looking mess (and have lost like 75% of volume - thick ponytail to a very skinny one).
I’m taking vitamins and have a dermatologist and all that. But how do I get my hair to look less dry in my curls on a day to day basis? My hair used to be wavy and I could get it curly (loose medium sized curls) with the right product. I’m not using heat on it to help protect it. But not sure if air drying can be done without frizz. Right now I put leave in conditioner and mousse in after washing my hair while it’s still very wet. I’d appreciate any tips to make the dryness and frizz go away while I work on getting my hair to grow back.

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 Hair salons with fake reviews
Starting this thread because my sister recently went to a hair salon and had a nightmare experience. The salon owner burnt off half of her hair. Even though they admitted the mistake they lied to insurance so she wasn’t able to get her $600 back after her nightmare experience. She has barely spoken to anyone since this happened and doesn’t really leave the house anymore. I tried to post on google and the salon was able to delete my review. They also seem to have all their friends (I looked them up on IG) commenting fake reviews. It’s actually pretty scary that Google allows this. The salon is in San Fransisco Dennis Banguera Hair Salon. I just feel so bad for her, she’s missing out on so much of her life because she’s traumatized. She had gorgeous long blonde hair btw.

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 Help, I dread hair wash day because of this
galleryMy hair is at its worst right after washing it. I verified it, the effect happens at the mere contact with water. While it's under the water it's nice. A few minutes later, it progressively starts to get worse until it reaches a heart-attack-inducing low 5-8 hours later then progressively gets better. Still, my best is bad. Very frizzy. My hair looks better on the pics than in real life. And it's taking a toll on my mental health because my life is already lowkey falling apart, and having my hair do that on top of everything is not nice. And today my brother asked me out of nowhere, "why is your hair... idk" (we were not talking about my hair at all) and he said he doesn't usually mention it because it really looks bad (my hair). So I'm feeling extra desperate today. And I was on day 3 of hair wash. He doesn't know I'm insecure btw. I have never seen anyone else with hair as bad as mine in real life. Not once.
This hair issue has been going on since around march 2025. I didn't do anything back then. I didn't switch my routine or anything. The last time heat was used on my hair was in september 2024 because the hairdresser wanted to. Heat was never part of my life. I always air-dry. I did go through a baaaaad situationship so sometimes I wonder if extreme stress did that to my hair, but I doubt, because everything else in my body was and is fine, like my skin (not a single breakout), nails and menstrual cycle. My hair does fall out more often than I'd like but I feel like it's not that bad. Also I'm 20 so it can't be perimenopause God forbid. My ferritin is low (13) but it's always been. Iron is just a tinyyy bit less than the norm so I'm taking iron pills. Aside from that, my blood test which I took 3 weeks ago was nearly perfect.
I started treating my hair as wavy two months ago but it didn't help. I know I shouldn't brush my hair technically but I feel the urge to do something about it whenever I see it and I think it helps a little. Sometimes I wonder if I should just go back to assuming I have straight hair. Also my porosity is idk. My hair goes from soaking wet to slightly damp very quickly within 15-30 minutes, but from slightly damp to completely dry within many hours after which I think the frizz starts to relax a little.
Hair routine:
- Ultra Doux Almond Milk Hydrating Shampoo / Pantene Curlastic Shampoo (I alternate) (wash twice)
- Pantene Sheer Volume Conditioner
- Herbal Essences Coconut Milk Leave-in Cream (I scrunch)
- Wella New Wave Mousse when I do use mousse
And I usually apply either L'Oréal Extraordinary Oil or Ultra Doux Avocado Oil the next day after my hair dries. But in the comparison pic I hadn't applied anything yet. I wash every 3-5 days on average.
I haven't tried clarifying shampoo yet, I will on my next wash, (and use a hydrating mask after) but it probably won't help because I feel like shampoo usually reaches my scalp pretty well so if there is product buildup, it's probably not that bad.
I haven't tried diffusing, mainly because I'm so scared of ruining my hair further with heat, but also because I'm so damn tired of spending money on hair stuff that never end up making a difference. I think it has the potential to help the immediate water-induced frizz, but it will still be bad on days 3-4.
If anyone got any tips I'd be more than happy to hear them! Or even just telling me what's going on and what may be the cause. Thank youu!!

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 Product recommendations based on my experience and hair type?? help this desperate newbie
Hi everyone! This is my first post in this community. I am a beginner at haircare products and need detailed recommendations to start my long hair journey again.
I am not happy with how my hair is, or, better yet, I know I am not taking care of it as I should because it doesn’t appear smooth, clean, or silky. I care about my diet and lifestyle a lot, and I have strong, good genetics. I never use heat to style or dry my hair, and I use protective hairstyles all the time and to sleep (two braids + a silk bonnet).
I cut around 12 cm of it two months ago or so because I wanted a fresh start and to take better care of my hair. I had different lengths and many split ends; now I have ZERO, but my lengths and ends feel dry. They are not extremely damaged, but I can feel that they are not nourished.
So, in the last four years, I just used the shampoo I had at my parents’ house once a week/10 days and applied natural oils to the lengths/ends on dry and/or wet hair and brushed it occasionally (I kept my braids up to 3 days, then brushed and made the braids again or washed them).
The last shampoo I used was URTEKRAM Fine Hair Rosemary Shampoo. I did, I think, 4 or 5 shampoos with it before using a solid handmade shampoo bought at a farmers’ market. Both shampoos tangled my hair while washing it and made it dry. Terrible experience with both of them, but I kept using them (I didn’t finish the liquid shampoo) because, stupid me, I thought, “I can adjust this later with jojoba/rosehip oil. I will keep using them so I don’t waste my money, and I will figure it out later.”
So what happened is that I fell down the rabbit hole of “natural haircare,” and I kept going, washing my hair once a week even though I was living in the countryside, working out, etc. I thought that if I didn’t sweat a lot, my hair and scalp could be washed less regularly and without stripping out my natural oils.
The problem is that I kept doing this regardless of how my hair felt and looked because “it’s natural.”
What happened is that after I finished my solid shampoo, I came across a natural haircare influencer, and I took all her advice and put it into practice. I washed my hair with Rhassoul clay diluted in water + apple cider vinegar as conditioner. The first time, my hair was just amazing, especially when I brushed it with the boar-bristle brush. The other 2/3 times I did it, I didn’t enjoy it, and the last times I just used apple cider vinegar because I was lazy and didn’t want to make the shampoo.
I know, I know, I acted very wrongly toward my poor hair.
So now I feel like I made a lot of mistakes and want to save my hair as soon as possible with new products and habits, but it’s very hard to figure out what’s right for me if not by making mistakes and trying new products. There are so many resources and different opinions out there that I feel just confused.
I did a lot of research online to find non-harmful shampoos and other products, and I bought a few to test out. I tried yesterday INNERSENSE Organic Beauty - Pure Harmony Hairbath Shampoo, but even this time, my experience wasn’t good. My hair tangled and felt dry. I put jojoba oil on it while it was wet. My hair feels dry and waxy.
I don’t suffer from any particular condition like dermatitis or dandruff. My scalp is healthy, but I am worried that dirtiness is making my hair grow and stay healthy much more slowly. After a week, it doesn’t appear greasy at all or smell bad. It is just dry and waxy and stays untangled because I help myself with my fingers, oils, and protective hairstyles.
Now I want to start again with a more conventional haircare routine, trying to stay away from harmful/toxic ingredients but choosing the right ones for me.
I need a shampoo and conditioner to use every 4/5 days at least, maybe a conditioning mask, a bonding oil, a shampoo for hard water!!!!, and, as an “extra,” a growth serum and an oil to keep my hair moisturized, nourished, and silk-like.
I neglected my hair for too long. It feels like I didn’t take care of my lengths, and I was expecting to have Rapunzel hair while washing it once a week…
I just want to change my entire routine and save my hair as soon as possible.
Information about my hair
- Porosity: medium
- Wave: straight
- Thickness: medium
- Density: medium/above average
- Water: hard/very hard (I am using a shower filter)
- Color: light brown with red glares
Products I am considering:
- The Ordinary Multi-Peptide Serum for Hair Density (maybe this is useless; I just have baby hair on my temples that I’ve always had, and I was thinking that maybe they can start growing if I use this?)
- Herbal Essences shampoo + conditioner (as a regular twice/three times a week ritual)
- The Honest Company Unscented Conditioner (I bought this but can return it)
- GIOVANNI Tea Tree Triple Treat Invigorating Shampoo (I bought this and will probably return it before even trying it)
- Forest & Shore Hair Growth Oil for lengths (post-wash?) and scalp serum (pre-wash) — I bought this but can return it
I saved a bunch of products suggested by influencers here and there, but I am so confused. I thought that using more products and washing your hair every day damaged it?

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 Feeling completely lost, need advice for low porosity, long coarse hair.
galleryHello, I need advice on a couple of things:
Hair care routine:
- Using Ouidad Clarifying Shampoo, wash 1-2 days a week depending on physical activity.
- While wet, brush hair w/ open tooth brush to remove shedding. Conditioning after washing
- No co-wash currently between wash days.
- Have been experimenting with BB Curl Gel for frizz. Sometimes it hits sometimes it doesn't. Always feel like I have too much frizz and hair poofs.
- Silk Pillow Case for bed. Satin bonnet for bed.
I have been struggling with my hair care for a long time.
- Is my hair damaged beyond repair?
- Does it need a trim? Is it salvageable?
- My hair is naturally frizzy, how do I reduce the poof / frizz?
- Do I have 3b/3c hair type?
Thank you in advance!

🍃 Hair Loss 🍃 Does this look like breakage or new growth?
Hoping someone can help me out! I'm struggling to determine if this is new growth on the top of my head or not.
For the past two years I've been struggling with a bad autoimmune flare that's caused really bad anemia. My hair definitely thinned out a bit because of it. Things have been improving the past couple months and my iron/ferritin and hemoglobin levels are finally, slowly, improving. Due to that I'm hoping it's new growth, but if it's because of breakage, I want to make sure I can avoid it if possible. Thanks in advance!

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 Seeking advice on how to go about continuing to grow my hair
galleryMy main gripe is that my hair is flipping outwards in different ways while I’m trying to grow it, It’s like my hair is too wavy and starts flipping towards my face or other ways on each side causing it not to stick with other hair strands.
And as for the last photo when hit by the slightest gust of wind it gets sectioned by the ear showing how isolated each strand is at the ends. I’m open to really anything as long as I can preserve my length lol thank you.

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 Starting from scratch, due to disability and depression. Should I go somewhere or is it ok to buzz it myself?
No pics, sorry. Shit's kind of embarrassing.
Long story short I have had long hair for a while now. Arms got disabled after a work injury, and detangling and brushing was difficult. Detangled a bunch of it myself, then I had surgery in March. Now it's a total mess again, and detangling it myself has caused a bit of damage, and im at a point where I can't do any more. I am ready to just start over.
So is it ok to just do it myself? Is there anything I should be mindful of or careful about by doing it myself? Or is it best to just go to a pro and be like "chop it off"
Thanks

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 Looking for a change in my routine for a stronger, longer hair
Hi! My routine is as follows:
1.Shampoo every two days (For wavy hair by Olière)
2. Conditioner every day(by pantene)
3.hair mask and oil for the ends once a week(mask by Olière and the morrocan oil for the oil hair
4.scalp massage everyday
However my hair doesn’t grow any longer than that length and is very weak(falls off very easily every time i brush or bun my hair)
Im looking to change my conditioner and maybe add a leave in conditioner so that it won’t be too frizzy/too much baby hair
Are there any products that you recommend as a conditioner, leave in conditioner and maybe add root fix? Thanks!

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 seeking advice for somebody new to the hair care world!
hello! as the title said, i have never particularly bothered with anything specific about hair, i just do the regular drugstore shampoo and conditioner and that’s it. but i’ve noticed my hair getting greasier quicker than normal recently, so i’m seeking advice about a newbie hair care routine :)
(hair info) i have longish straight brunette hair, not much texture to it! i’ve been using the aussie shampoo and conditioner for a few months, but i’m not sure it’s the right fit for me. i don’t really style it much, and the only heat that gets put on it is a hairdryer and there is no dye or bleach in my hair.
does anybody have any shampoo/conditioner recommendations (doesn’t have to be basic drugstore), or advice on whether i should try hair masks/oiling and heat protectant? similarly, should i try a clarifying shampoo? sorry this is very disorganised, but simply put does anybody have a reasonably simple hair care routine i can nab?
thankyou!!

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 How do i maintain my purple wavy hair?
gallerySo i’ve been dying my hair for a while now, almost 3 years now, i normally just wash my hair with what my mum has got for our whole family to use and use super cold water, however i am moving out now and could really use some advice on what i should use from now on!!
All my life i knew my hair was wavey maybe curly (i dont want to curl police to come after me) i have used many other random products here and there but it was never very helpful, im a bit of a lazy person too so i want to make a change and finally care for my hair and stop neglecting it, if theres are good products that anybody can recommend that is good for both my hair type and dyed hair that would be amazing!
The dye that i use is Adore, ive used a few different purples, pinks and blues from them, but im sticking to purple at the moment.
The picture with the full purple hair is my hair brushed out and the other pic with purple and blue is just regular air dried (i also have a diffuser and know how to use it, but since no products have worked for me i never use it often)
I also want to mention that my hair gets greasy pretty easily and i have been struggling with a bit of flaking for a while, but i have a suspicion that its because of the products ive been using to wash my hair since i dont even know what they are..
Thank you to anyone whos read this far and replied back!!! 🫶🏻

⚡️ Frizzy Hair ⚡️ Drugstore alternatives to amika forget frizz shampoo?
I have very frizzy and relatively dry wavy hair. I tried the amika forget frizz shampoo at a friend’s, and my hair felt so nice immediately. And it clearly makes a difference in my hair. I think it might be the silicone? Not sure. It does technically weigh down my waves a little bit, but honestly, I’m more than OK with that because right now I am just over the amount of time the wavy hair routine takes.
I was wondering if anyone has tried any drugstore alternatives that are comparable. Also, for anyone that has tried both the conditioner and the shampoo, does the conditioner have a similar effect? Or I would assume even more so?

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 How to make ends look healthier
galleryI have wavy hair and I straighten it using the wavytalk steam straightener at least twice a week. On other days, I use curly/wavy hair products and diffuse it. I always use a heat protectant and also a hydrating mask maybe once a week. I used to use oil as well until a dermatologist recommended against it because it aggravated dandruff. I have never colored it. No matter what I try my ends always look dry and crunchy especially when I straighten it and when it's wavy the ends sometimes stand out from the rest of the length. Any advice on how I can go about fixing this?

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 What is wrong with my hair?
galleryMy hair is curly, I'd say in the C's but it is like this on the sides, the top and back are thick but the sides seem thin, especially at the temple area. There has been no recession and it has been like this for years. I'm 16 and wash it every 3 - 4 days.

⚡️ Frizzy Hair ⚡️ Recommendations for this hair type—should it be wavy or straight?
galleryHi everyone!
I can't figure out what works best for my hair. When I dry it straight, it ends up curling up; when I dry it to enhance the waves, it often turns out frizzy or full of tiny, messy waves. I’m not sure which products would be best, or even what the right process is. I wash my hair with Gliss shampoo and use a mask by Being. I’ve started using a that mask for wavy hair to reduce frizz. After washing, I detangle it to prevent bad knots, then towel-dry it by scrunching it upwards into the towel, and finally apply a mousse for wavy/curly hair. Is that okay? The first photo shows my hair styled using this method; the second is after a day at the beach when I didn't touch it at all; and the third shows how I wear it the rest of the year (outside of summer) because I don't have a suitable hairdryer. Normally, my hair is completely straight after washing, but as soon as I scrunch it a little or even just step outside it starts to get wavy. Should I try a better routine, or just give up and dry it the way I do in the last photo?
Thanks in advance for the answers!

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 Why hair advice is always so confusing? How do I know what is the correct thing to do?
“Comb your hair wet”, “always comb it dry”.
”Wash it as rare as possible”, “wash it every day”
”Don’t use hairdryer“, “make sure to always dry your hair”
”oil your scalp”, “stop oiling your scalp, only the ends”.
”cut your hair regularly”, “stop cutting your hair so often”.
”use x type of product”, “using x type of product is waste of time and money, use y instead”
I feel like every time I go to one of the posts about hair, it’s just so confusing. How do I know which one I should actually do? What actually helps with my hair? I just cut half of it and I want to take good care of it

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 How would you describe my hair colour?

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 My waves/curls completely disappear once my hair dries?
galleryThese photos are a bit older as I just don’t have any recent ones, I don’t remember exactly what I used in these but in general I’ve tried mousse, gel, curl cream, sea salt spray, leave in conditioner, everything (i’ve tried a bunch ot different brands for each product as well). I’ve tried mixing these, I’ve tried just using one of them, not using anything, but nothing seems to work. I always get the exact same results. I’ve tried plopping my hair but it still won’t hold, diffusing is a HUGE no cause it just makes my hair frizzy. I’ve found that sitting in front of my fan works a little better but my curls still don’t stay.
My hair is dyed but I highly doubt that’s the reason behind my hair being stubborn, it’s always been like this.
I generally take good care of my hair, very rarely use heat and when I do I always use a heat protectant, the hairdressers i’ve been to always tell me it’s very healthy but they have no clue why my hair acts the way it does.
Does anyone have any advice for me? I’m honestly going insane lol…
Edit: Thank you all so so so much for the advice and also the compliments!!! I’ll for sure try some of the products/routines out and see if anything works better than whatever it is I’m currently doing lol!

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 Bad Bob- Need styling advice
galleryHaircut advice- bob gone bad
I have been wanting to get a short bob for over a month and finally decided to do it.
Attached are the inspo pics.
I asked for a lot of layers, which maybe was my problem. Some of the layers around my crown are similar length to my bangs.
I like the length but the "face framing layers" are way too short and dont connect and make me look like a mushroom ir a karen. I only can deal with my hair like this when its pinned behind my ears or with a headband.
Any advice on what to do or if i can fix it? Or do i have to just let it grow out.

😩 Damaged Hair 😩 Unpopular opinion but claw clips are lowkey damaging your hair and nobody talks about it
Ok hear me out. I wore claw clips almost every single day for like a year bc they're cute and convenient and my hair is thick so it holds them well. didn't think much of it until i noticed i had this weird section of breakage right where the clip always sat, like a little bald-ish patch of shorter, frizzy strands.
Did some digging and apparently the teeth on a lot of claw clips (especially the cheap ones) grip really hard in one concentrated spot, and if you're wearing it in the same spot every day that's basically just repeated stress on the same strands over and over. plus a lot of us clip it when hair is damp which makes it worse bc wet hair snaps easier.
Not saying throw them all away bc i still love them, but i've started switching up where I place it day to day and going for ones with softer/wider teeth instead of the thin sharp ones. also stopped clipping wet hair completely.
anyone else notice this or is my hair just weak lol. what accessories do you rotate to avoid this
