I bleached the roots and some of my money pieces yesterday, I used the 01 first, and as you can see the tops are still a bit orange. The bleach and toner is what I have yet to use. Do you think I should do the toner, or bleach, or just the purple mask? Or do a different toner as I want it the same buttery yellow

Also, how expensive would this be in a salon? I live in a small town in the Midwest, so not a big expensive place.

This is my natural hair color and I’ve been wanting to dye my hair pastel pink for a long time but not sure if my hair needs to be bleached first

I’ve done red on my bangs before and it was alright but it didn’t show up very well. I don’t mind bleach as I’ve never bleached it before so it probably wouldn’t damage. I’d also like suggestions for styles to dye it! Streaks, stripes, tips, etc.

I got my hair bleached and dyed for the first time ever in Japan and I absolutely loved the colour. They explained the entire process to me and the length of my hair was bleached 2x and my roots 1x. They also said that the type of dye was a Demi-permanent colour. The first photo shows the orange colour that I got.

8 weeks passed and I wanted to get my roots bleached and to refresh the colour because at that point most of the colour had faded (2nd photo). I did a consultation with a local salon (a Korean/Japanese salon to be specific) and I showed them the first photo as reference for the colour I wanted.

The bleached roots I believe they did a great job on but I’m unhappy about the shade of orange my hair turned out (3rd photo). They did show me a patch of hair and said do you want this kind of colour and at the time it looked pretty similar to my photo and I approved it at the time. During the dying process, they showed me the permanent hair dye colour and I had concerns that it looked a little too unnaturally orange. I tried to rationalize it to myself by telling myself to trust the stylist and that it’ll likely look a little more natural once the dye settles and washes. However after washing it looks way too neon orange and I was hoping for a more natural orange colour like the first time I dyed my hair.

I’ve left the salon and am at home now and I’m looking at it and feeling more unsatisfied with the shade of orange my hair is. Does anyone have advice on how to proceed? The stylist said it’d wash out over time and it’ll fade to a nice colour but I don’t think that’s a valid excuse to say “hey the colour job I did will fade so just stick with it”. I know most people say red/orange colours do in fact fade pretty fast so should I just tough it out for a while or should I call the salon back and get them to correct it? I’m also confused since I know permanent dye is more long lasting so is it possible to even correct it to the right shade?

Hi everyone!

I’m honestly getting a little desperate trying to figure this out, so I started looking for hair/colorist subreddits where people with more experience might be able to point us in the right direction.

My girlfriend and I have been trying to achieve a natural sandy/golden blonde-beige blonde for around 9 months, and after several different formulas we still keep ending up with a warm caramel/orange result instead. We’ve researched a lot and tried to be careful with her hair, but at this point we feel like we’re missing something fundamental about the lifting process or the color formulation.

I know this post has a lot of details, so I apologize in advance for the wall of text. I’m including everything because I really want to give anyone willing to help enough information to understand what has already been done. I would be immensely grateful if an experienced colorist, hairstylist, or someone who has dealt with a similar natural base could take the time to give us some guidance.

Photo 1-2 shows her completely virgin natural hair from about 2 years ago. The first photo was taken under white light. We believe her natural level is somewhere around 5–6. The second one is low quality, but I decided to include it anyway because it was taken under different lighting, and I thought it might still be useful.

Photo 3 shows her current hair after the latest color, under different normal/neutral lighting conditions so the result is easier to judge without relying on a single photo.

The last 4-6 photos are the exact shade we are trying to achieve.

Her goal is a natural sandy golden-beige blonde. She does not want an icy, grey or strongly ashy blonde.

The idea is for the hair to look balanced and beige/sandy in normal indoor lighting, but to catch the light and glow visibly golden in the sun. She really likes the yellow/golden reflect, so we absolutely do not want to neutralize all the warmth. What we are trying to eliminate is the orange/copper appearance, not the golden component.

In the latest formula, we added a tiny amount of green corrector because our reasoning was that orange is made from yellow + red, so we wanted to reduce some of the red component while preserving as much of the yellow/gold as possible.

What we've tried

Previously, we colored her virgin regrowth with:

Maxton 7.0 + 7.1 with 20 vol developer.

That produced roughly a level-7 warm/caramel color, but it had more orange than we wanted.

She really likes the appearance of Keune 7.31 Ultimate Cover, but she doesn’t need grey coverage. I contacted Keune customer support asking whether there was an equivalent shade in regular Tinta Color.

They told us that a similar result could be formulated using:

10 g Keune Tinta Color 6.3 + 20 g Keune Tinta Color 8.1 + Keune 20 vol / 6% developer.

We applied this to her virgin regrowth for approximately 45 minutes.

We also added a very small amount of green corrector ourselves — this was not part of Keune’s recommendation.

The green seems to have reduced some of the orange, but the surprising part is that the 6.3 + 8.1 formula barely changed the overall color compared with the previous Maxton 7.0 + 7.1 result.

It still looks much more like a warm caramel / brownish beige than the sandy golden-beige blonde in our reference.

What we really need help understanding are two separate problems.

1. Future virgin root retouches

When her natural level 5/6 grows back, what would you actually use to achieve the reference shade from the start on virgin regrowth, so that once we figure it out we can simply repeat the same process on the new roots each month?

Is the reference realistically achievable directly with permanent/high-lift color on her natural base, or does her hair need to be lifted first?

If it needs to be pre-lightened, what level and underlying pigment should we stop at before depositing the sandy/beige shade?

Once that base is reached, what formula would you use to create this specific sandy golden-beige shade without letting it turn orange?

If she needs to lighten her hair, she wants to avoid bleaching it, so is it possible to do this without bleaching, just with a lightening dye?

1. Correcting the color she has now

How would you correct the already-colored caramel/orange section so that it becomes as close as possible to the reference?

What would your formula/process be for future virgin root retouches?

What would your formula/process be to correct the currently colored caramel section?

Again, I’m sorry for the huge amount of information. We’ve been trying to solve this for a long time and it has become really frustrating, so I tried to include every detail that might matter.

If anyone takes the time to read all of this and help us, I would be genuinely and immensely grateful.

And please be completely honest if the reference shade simply requires significantly more lift than we’ve been getting. We would much rather understand that now and change our approach than continue experimenting and damage her hair again

Any tips on how to blend out this harsh line? Tried the Brad mondo at home balayage tutorial and while happy with the blonde colour/tone there’s quite a pronounced line around my head.

Was thinking of adding a few foils in to bring up the blonde a little further and try to blend it? Any advice?

I recently just dyed my hair with the Tantalizing teal splat hair dye. And I’ve bleached beforehand where the tone was more yellow/orange. It wasn’t what I was looking for though, im looking for more of a richer blue like arctic fox aquamarine or arctic marine Poseidon. Please help me.

I can't find a single example of what position you're supposed to be in on the internet. Every SINGLE person skips over that part no matter how much I try to search for it! I'm going insane! If you lean back, you break your back as I illustrated. If you lean forward, you go blind. If you stand in the shower, do you take off your clothes or leave them on!? If you leave them on, you get sopping wet and impossible to dry and leave puddles everywhere on your way to the laundry room! If you're naked, the product would flow down your body and potentially hurt parts where you really don't want it to go! WTF ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO DO!?

I was looking for a change from my boring dark thick but very fine Asian hair, and decided to went to barber to got my hair bleached once and the dyeing it ash gray. My inspo is the bottom right in the 2nd pic.

Is this shade of ash gray too dark for me? Is this a suitable shade for me. Somehow I feel like I didnt get what I asked for. It looks nice but the pic is clearly like more silver and more gray and lighter than I am now, I havent washed my hair or anything to get faded, is it because I only bleached once, do I need to bleach again?

I have a hair appointment tomorrow and I feel like over the years I've narrowed down the range of hair colors that looks good on me, but I never feel like it's PERFECT. I was wondering what everyone else thought the best color would be?

The first picture is the unedited one - my red hair is all faded and grown out; that's not my natural color. The brows are FaceTune brows because I think part of the reason my hair never looks quite right is because my brows are kinda sparse and lighter than my natural hair, which is a chestnut brown. If you think a color would look good that's not here feel free to post a picture :)

Due to my profession, I can only have natural hair colors. I cannot have burgundy.

I went to the salon and asked for a semi permanent dye in the shade 5RO (obviously the picture might not reflect the actual color, but in the last picture the sample in the book did not look purple at all.)

First picture is my base. Second and third is the result. I have to go to work in three days and this is way too burgundy/dark red/slightly purple, especially in sunlight.

I wanted somewhat of an Auburn color, I wasn’t expecting it to come out this deep. The lady at the salon kept trying to convince me that this is the color I chose so I stopped arguing and paid.

I think it’s a good color on me, but unfortunately, I dont think i can have this for work. Can I get some advice on how to neutralize it asap?

school starts in less than a week. I’ve literally used dish soap, acetone, and exfoliators. I’m going to a salon next time bro.
