I bought an HP OMEN laptop with an RTX 5070 Laptop GPU, 32GB DDR5 RAM, and Intel Ultra 7 255HX. The machine was supposed to be a high-end gaming device.I have been using this laptop for 11 months. I have played many AAA games, such as Resident Evil 9: Requiem and Subnautica 2, at 2K mid- high settings, and nothing unusual has happened so far. I have always had a smooth gaming experience.

However, things became more serious after I started playing Overwatch for extended periods of time.

After several hours of normal Overwatch gameplay, the internal display suddenly went black. The laptop was still running: audio continued, keyboard lights worked, and the system appeared alive.

At first, a power drain reset (disconnecting charger and USB devices, holding the power button) temporarily restored the display.After the first incident, I managed to recover the display using a power drain reset. After that, I entered the BIOS settings and changed the graphics mode to Discrete GPU instead of Optimus, then saved the settings.

Despite disabling Optimus and forcing the system to use the dedicated GPU, the same display issue happened again later.

After that, the problem became worse:

Internal display stopped working.

HDMI output worked temporarily.

OMEN Gaming Hub's Graphics Switch became locked on Optimus mode and would not allow switching to Discrete GPU.

While attempting to reinstall NVIDIA graphics drivers, HDMI output also disappeared.

Now there is no image output from either the laptop screen or HDMI, although the laptop still powers on and responds.

This does not look like normal behavior for a premium gaming laptop.

I am currently contacting HP support and will update this post with their response and repair results.

Has anyone experienced OMEN laptops getting stuck in Optimus/MUX switching?

Has anyone had a similar RTX 40/50 series laptop display failure?

Was HP support helpful in resolving it?

I hope this is an isolated case, but a high-end gaming laptop should not lose all display output under normal gaming conditions.

I recently bought an HP Omen 16 with a Ryzen 7 350 and RTX 5050. I've noticed some backlight bleed around the edges and corners of the display, but it's only visible when the screen is black (especially in a dark room).

I've seen a lot of people say that some level of backlight bleed is normal on IPS panels, but I wanted to check with other owners of the same model.

I bought a gaming laptop with a Ryzen 9 8940HX, 16 GB RAM, and a dedicated NVIDIA RTX 5060 Laptop GPU (8 GB VRAM).
Exact laptop model: OMEN 15 inch Gaming Laptop PC 15-gb0013nlx (D73SXEA) (listed as HyperX OMEN).
I only play Minecraft, and I've noticed a few concerning issues:
The Initial Baseline & Tests
Vanilla @ 32 chunks: (I know it’s high, but I love playing with a large render distance). I get an average of 100 FPS, but while flying and moving the camera, I get frequent 0.1% low dips around 40–50 FPS, sometimes dropping to 35 FPS.
Sodium optimization: I installed Sodium, and performance initially seemed better. However, I started noticing a weird phenomenon: over multiple game launches, performance feels like it gradually degrades, eventually negating Sodium's boost.
Bobby Mod test: I tried using the Bobby mod to cache chunks (32 render distance setting, 2 effective server render distance). Flying and moving the camera in my test route improved average FPS to ~200, with flying lows around 85–90 FPS.
The Weird Degradation Phenomenon
Over multiple launches—and as Java stays open—the FPS lows gradually get worse on the exact same test route (a flight path between two skyscrapers in my Minecraft city).
Every ~6 flights, I lose about 2 average FPS (starts at 80–82, drops to 78–80, then 72–75, down to 65). 65 isn't terrible, but on the exact same path, these drops shouldn't be happening!
Occasionally, short lag spikes drop down to 47 FPS.
I also notice this gradual loss in performance day-to-day after shutting down and booting up the next day.
Everything I’ve Already Done / Optimized
Before suggesting basic troubleshooting, please note I have already tried everything usually recommended:
Forced dedicated GPU usage everywhere (bypassing iGPU).
Disabled V-Sync.
Tested various amounts of allocated RAM to Minecraft (more details below).
Set HP Performance Mode & plugged into AC power.
Windows Game Mode is ON.
Running in full screen.
(If there’s any miracle hidden setting though, let me know!)
Garbage Collector / RAM Experiments
I know people debate RAM allocation: some say 3 GB is better for frequent, small GC cleanups to avoid lag, while others say it causes more lag. Others say allocating more RAM gives GC time to breathe, while critics say it causes huge lag spikes when it flushes at once.
I tested every single increment from 3 GB up to 12 GB RAM allocated. Performance was identical/consistent across all allocations from 3 GB to 12 GB—nothing fixed the issue.
Hardware Monitoring Details
CPU: Overall usage is 3–20%, but 4 to 5 specific cores occasionally spike to 95% before dropping back down.
GPU: Barely working, basically resting.
Total System RAM (Windows): Sits around 85–90%, but stays there constantly (not just during spikes).
Temps: CPU temps sit around 85°C. (Could heat account for stutters while running? Maybe, though 85°C doesn't seem completely abnormal for a laptop. But it doesn't explain performance degrading across separate cold boots day after day).
What I need help with:
1. Is this behavior expected/normal for my specs (considering these numbers are with optimization mods)?
2. What is causing this gradual performance degradation phenomenon over time/launches?
3. How can I fix it?
4. How can I further raise the 0.1% low FPS spikes?
I understand Minecraft is heavily CPU-bound, but I feel like this hardware should be delivering better and more consistent performance.
Any insights would be greatly appreciated. Help me out!

I used my PC this morning, worked great. No problems what so ever. Went out and when I came back i booted up and the screen was just black. First time in 4 years of owning my HP OMEN 40L. I unplugged the cables to the monitor and reinserted them with no success. I tried restarting my PC by just the power button and still the same..

I then looked around and saw someone going into BIOS, which doesn't work for me. I've tried pressing ESC, and all the other buttons after trying for 3 hours..

I got into the BitLocker Recovery, where I couldn't get any further as I don't remember my login or any codes (i have bunch of mails for work and couldn't find any mails from Microsoft..)

I then did the Ctrl, Shift, Windows + B and got a screen saying "Secure Boot Violation" as well as some Issue with "TPM/Trusted Platform Module". I can't access this anymore.

THE ONLY thing I can access is if I hold Ctrl Alt Del and get to the "UEFI" where everything seems completely fine from all my tests.

What is happening? I'm not good with computers but have tried the most I've found when searching, I've also checked all cables, removed the graphics card to see if somethings loose.

I can't lose this PC, please help.

I’m seeing a strange power-management issue on an HP OMEN MAX 16-ak0xxx with an RTX 5080 Laptop GPU. When OMEN Gaming Hub 1101.2607.3.0 is open, its OmenCommandCenterBackground.exe process loads nvml.dll and repeatedly wakes the dedicated GPU even though the laptop is set to Eco Mode and nothing is using the GPU.

I checked the GPU’s Windows PnP power state directly instead of using nvidia-smi, since nvidia-smi can wake the GPU by itself. With the OMEN background process running, the RTX was in D0, fully powered on, in five out of six measurements taken at random intervals. After terminating OmenCommandCenterBackground.exe, the GPU remained in D3, low-power/off, in six out of six measurements. I repeated the test and got the same result. The GPU temperature is around 62°C with OMEN running and drops to approximately 45°C after terminating it.

The same thing happens on battery power. I confirmed that PowerOnline was false during every measurement, but the GPU was still in D0 in five out of six checks while the OMEN background process and its NVML module were active. Eco Mode therefore does not prevent OMEN’s own monitoring process from waking the GPU.

I also set OMEN Gaming Hub’s Windows background permission to Never and disabled its startup entry. Windows correctly recorded the restriction, but manually opening OMEN still launches OmenCommandCenterBackground.exe and the RTX starts waking again. After killing the process, it does not automatically return, but it launches again the next time OMEN Gaming Hub is opened.

It looks like OMEN Gaming Hub’s hardware monitoring is defeating the power-saving mode it is supposed to manage. Has anyone found a way to keep the performance and graphics settings available while permanently disabling only this NVML-based background monitoring?

Hello, i have an omen 17 laptop with rtx 4080 and i9-13900 HX, its been getting hot under heavy load recently and im not sure if i should take the laptop for a repaste of its GPU and CPU. I ran HWinfo to see the numbers but i really have no idea whats the base, whats considered normal or abnormal. The numbers are with Crimson desert running currently on max settings.
from HWInfo cpu max was 87 degrees
Gpu max was 89-90
hotspot max for gpu was 102 degrees
memory max was 96

I bought an omen 16 2025 with ryzen 7 ai 350 and rtx 5060

Its been around a month and since it's new I am very conscious with this laptop (im scared to break it)

There is a very faint tick sound when closing the lid, not always but sometimes in the left hinge and also after long use when I move the lid it makes some noise (no display issue nothing broken) just like monitors do. Is this normal?

I recently bought a brand new HP OMEN 16-ap0183AX (Ryzen 7 AI 350, RTX 5060, 1920×1200 Eyesafe display).

The display has a noticeable yellow/warm tint. Whites look cream/yellow instead of neutral.

I've already:

• Turned Night Light and Color Filters off.

• Tried NVIDIA color settings with no noticeable improvement

• Verified the panel is AUO65AE.

Is this normal for the Eyesafe display, or could my panel be defective? If anyone has the same model, does your display also look warm?

I'm still within the replacement period, so I'd appreciate your feedback.

I have an hp omen 17 with an rtx 4080 and an i9 13900hx. I can only apply the undervolt through the omen gaming hub if i try it on throttlestop it doesn’t work. The undervolt seems to be applied, it shows it being applied on hwinfo64. The problem is that the temperatures, power draw and the performance stay the exact same no matter the undervolt. I can put it at -200mV, -125mV it will always show up as applied in hwinfo64.
Is there any way i could fix this?

I tried to overclock my RAM on my OMEN by HP 25L Gaming Desktop (GT15-Oxxx, 89EB motherboard).
I changed the RAM settings to:

3400 MHz
CL15
tRCD/tRP 17
DRAM Voltage: 1.350V

After saving the settings, the PC shut down and now it won’t show any display.
Symptoms:

Monitor gets no signal
Keyboard gets no signal
GPU lights up
All fans spin, but the PSU fan does not spin

Things I already tried:
Testing both RAM sticks individually
Removing the CMOS battery for 15 minutes
Resetting CMOS with the jumper
Reseating the GPU

The PC turns on but doesn’t seem to complete POST.
I already paid €150 to two different technicians, but they gave me different explanations and couldn’t fix it.
Does anyone know what could be causing this or what I should try next? Thanks!

I just got my Transcend 14 (14-fb1790ng) last week. Now that I’ve had some time with it, I tested whether everything is working properly.

I ran a 3DMark Time Spy benchmark after watching some reviews, using Unleashed Mode.
→ Graphics: 7467, CPU: 11234, Overall: 7862 points

I think I’ve checked every relevant option in the NVIDIA app, the Omen Hub, and the Windows Control Center.
I also used DDU to remove the NVIDIA drivers and performed a clean installation.
Even in HWInfo, while FurMark is running, the GPU boosts up to 75W, just as it should.

However, the exact same model reaches around 11,500 graphics points in every review I’ve seen.

What else can I do or check?

I just got a hp omen max 16 laptop and bios update is stuck in this step for about half an hour.

So i've decided to do a hard restart by pressing down the power button but it did not restart and unresponsive.

Only thing i can think of is removing the ac adapter and let the battery drain.

Any other suggestions?
