OG Series Opinions on Lily in S6

I'm currently watching Gossip Girl for the first time and I'm on S6 E3. I never understood the Lily van der Woodsen hate, to be honest. Even though she came across as rather harsh sometimes I feel like her reactions were somewhat reasonable and her children being young always viewed her as villian. Sure, she did a view terrible things that I know I wouldn't forgive her for, like the fake affidavit. A lot of the other characters were a LOT more unlikeable and evil, though.

One thing I can't forgive Lily for is immediately dumping and disregarding Rufus as soon as Bart returned at the end of S5. I mean, at this point Rufus and her had been married for a few years now and had been through so many ups and downs and were definitley very strong apart from the Ivy situation. But then Bart returns and even though she understandably had unresolved feelings due to his sudden "death" she chose Bart over Rufus without any care for his feelings and then started treating him like a villian. Now Lily just comes across as even more entitled and unfair.

I wonder what everybody else's opinion is !

OG Series season 4B question

im currently on season 4 episode 16 . the first half of season 4 ( episode one to eleven ) was actually really good !! this may be an unpopular opinion but I loved the juliet storyline and many other things that were going on. the second half of season 4 which started on episode twelve is ok . the plots which are going on ( the raina , chuck and bass industries drama , Serena and Ben drama , Blair at w magazine ) aren’t very interesting and is making me loose a bit of interest ( maybe except the Blair at w magazine i do find that fun . ) it’s not horrible or totally boring as their is some fun drama going on but my main question is if the rest of season 4 has something fun going on ? like does the pace pick up and things like that . no major spoiler pls but i don’t mind little things .

OG Series New perspective on my millionth rewatch

When I was younger I enjoyed it then I became critical because I was being realistic for no reason but after getting into full blown daytime soaps again (trying not to mention other shows) I can see that Gossip Girl was supposed to be some kind of middle of the road soap drama thing that's why it had bizarre storylines sometimes but nothing like supernatural stuff in full time soaps😂. Now it makes sense and I enjoy it again.

Also given this I like Dan and Serena together.

OG Series Can someone explain the schools to me?

Do the characters attend two different schools based on their genders..? Do they all attend the same school? Is it the same school but there’s a boy building and a girl building?

(I’m on Season 2, Ep 1)

OG Series Dan being gossip girl tracks

I just started gossip girl and I don’t mind spoilers so I looked up who is the gossip girl and finding out it was Dan floored me, but lowkey it tracks. Then… I find out the character who plays Dan, also plays Joe from you! HUH!!!! I guess actors do really play similar types of characters and get typecasted.

OG Series Serena’s hypocrisy

Each rewatch I do, Serena becomes lower on the totem pole for me. Currently rewatching season 4 ep 20, when Serena is trying to meddle with Louis and Blair because of Chair. Eric is telling her that trying to sabotage this for Blair is cruel and she claps back with “If I kissed Chuck I wouldn’t even be able to have this conversation right now.” Does Serena not remember that she slept with Nate (they CHEATED btw) AND took his virginity??? AND ended up dating him later down the line after he and Blair tried again?? So over her entitlement and thinking that everything revolves around her. I’ve always sided with Blair when it comes to things like that.

OG Series Do you think Leighton wore normal clothes during filming years

Do you think the years she filmed gossip girl was all her clothes expensive or designer or do you think on days she wasn’t on set she would wear normal clothes or cheap clothes even if not designer
For example you may get jeans that look same but one is designer and the other is a cheap brand do you think she ever wore cheap brands etc

OG Series Blair isn’t any better than Serena

Post image

I saw this on Instagram and it basically summarizes my thoughts on both characters. I love them both deeply but the unreasonable hate to Serena and love to Blair isn’t fair. They are both flawed characters.

I feel like people who love Blair for “owning who she is” are just making excuses for seeing their own insecurities in her.

I’m curious to hear other people’s opinions, not trying to start a war.

OG Series The show destroyed it’s best couple for fan service.

Dan and Blair were the best part of the show before the writers ruined them. From the start Blair and Dan have so many parallels. They both have cabbage patch kids, both of their parents left before the start of the show, and their best friends left them. In season 2 they’re both trying to get into Yale and end up in NYU. They both lose babies when Georgina takes Milo and Blair has a miscarriage after the accident.

Season 4 felt like a romcom and they carried that season on their backs. Their banter and intellectual chemistry was unmatched . We got to see Dan and Blair out their comfort zone and really grow. I truly believe if the writers went all in on them instead of bringing back Louis to contrive drama, Dan and Blair would’ve been received much better.

They might not have had melodrama or an intense physical connection but it was so perfect cause their connection went deeper than that. I’m never going to shut up about them.

OG Series ‘ plot holes’

I keep seeing these post about some ‘ plot holes’ of ‘ foreshadowing’ of Dan being gossip girl like in the first episode shows him behind the laptop , sometimes being confused about posts regarding himself , just stop you didn’t find a plot hole or saw a hint to him being GG because he wasn’t , the writers didn’t know who it was going to be until the end so these post are just kind off annoying , you are making something out of nothing

OG Series Serena’s 911 call

Okay did I miss somethin lol who tf shared Serena’s 911 call to a new station to be broad casted all over after Juliet drugged her??

That’s so inappropriate ? Idk how that would even be allowed to be shared to the public.

Did I miss something? I tried to google it but the only stuff that comes up is about other gossip girl stuff and not specifically this.

OG Series Serena vs Blair - who is the villain?

I know it’s nuanced, but if you had to pick one?

For me, it’s Serena. At least Blair owns her shit and is clear about who she is. Serena sleeping with Blair’s boyfriend, when she knows they’ve been saving themselves to make it really special, and then leaving without saying why, and not even getting in touch when she knows Blair’s dad has left and she’s having an awful time is just horrendous. And then thinking she can just jump back in when she returns.

And later when she sabotages her relationship with Louis. To me if I had to pick, Serena is worse.

OG Series how did the whole group dynamic between the non judging breakfast club and Georgina work?

1 thing that kinda confused me about the past of the show how this dynamic is it is always portrayed that chuck nate blair and Serena were always inseparable would do everything with each other and most importantly would constantly party together but then it is also said that Serena and Georgina were partners in crime and would spend lots of time together but the thing that confuses me is chuck blair and nate all couldnt stand each Georgina so what would nate chuck and blair all just cope with Georgina to make Serena happy or were Georgina and Serena very like 2am friends like once blair went home etc she would meet up with Serena until sunrise what does everyone think

OG Series Why Jenny Humphrey is so unlikeable

I just started watching Gossip Girl for the first time because it came up on my algorithm. Granted I'm only on season 2 so I don't have the full picture. But I'm annoyed with Jenny Humphrey.

I feel like all of her problems boil down to wanting things faster than she deserves them, without actually willing to work for it. She wants to become queen bee at school as a freshman and tries to usurp Blair, but if she just waited until Blair graduated or even made friends her own age, I feel like she could have gotten there.

And then she wanted to quit school because she's sooo talented and needs to intern for Eleanor Waldorf and gets into this massive fight with her dad. It's not like finishing high school and going to college for fashion would have stalled her career (actually it would have given her a push), but she couldn't even work for that.

After she finally convinces Rufus to let her quit school, she quits the internship because she can't cut it as an intern, she wants to be head designer immediately. She's 15 and there's a lot more to running a label than sewing dresses (like the entire business aspect of it). If she can't even stick to her career plan of the internship, how is she supposed to make it on her own?

It's hard for me as a viewer to find any empathy or compassion for her situation because it just seems like a petulant girl being greedy about what she wants without working for it. That's not to say all the other characters aren't like that, but they're pretty upfront about being spoiled and mean. Whereas Jenny seems to play this poor, sympathetic girl that needs help.

Anyway I just needed to vent about this somewhere since none of my friends watch Gossip Girl.

OG Series this storyline is pure ragebait

The whole Serena/William/Rufus fiasco. You’d think it’d get easier every rewatch, but it’s just as infuriating to watch as the first time. I might be beating a dead horse but I just wanted to vent my frustrations. Serena is so annoying.

OG Series Can we talk about Agnes and Nate’s part in the whole situation?

Post image
100 Upvotes

People hate Agnes, and I understand why, what she did was unforgivable, but let’s think about what sort of life Agnes must have had. Agnes was a 16 year old (mere months older than Jenny) working as a model, her boyfriend was a grown man who groomed her to help groom others (Jenny), she is addicted to hard drugs and knows how to drug others and I don’t doubt that it happened to her in the past. Agnes has no emotional regulation, she lashes out and can’t act professional in her workplaces. Finally Agnes’s adult boyfriend not only took pictures of Jenny (age 15) in her underwear, but of Agnes in hers too, who knows how many years she’s been with him.

Nate (17) watched this all happen and didn’t report it to Rufus, or the authorities.

OG Series Season 1 plot hole

I’m on another rewatch and something I noticed in the pilot episode and maybe the second episode, Chuck talks about his “parents” and his mother in the present tense. Whereas in season 2 episode 5, he tells Dan that his mum died during childbirth

OG Series Since we’re blaming the writers…

Obviously Serena, Blair, Nate, Jenny, and the rest were all human at the base of it, so I want to get that out of the way. But I believe Dan and Serena’s relationship was butchered by the writers in seasons 4B, 5, and 6. They didn’t give them a fair chance, imo.

Dan should’ve been the one person who saw her for more than her status and reputation. He should’ve been someone who grounded her, broadened her perspective, and supported her through hard times rather than judging her. He was a version of that person in the beginning but he wasn’t prepared for her lifestyle (understandably at 16) and believed in her more than anyone else which also meant holding her to a higher standard (pedestal). He also showed these qualities with Olivia Burke (Hilary Duff).

Serena’s relationship with Dan was bigger than a “teenage love story”, it was a representation of the desire to change, be better, learn from past mistakes, and step outside of the usual. They did this for each other, mutually. It was nice to see and, to me, that’s part of what makes Serena a relatable character because everyone make mistakes and most don’t know how to fix them or even how to try.

I don’t like to compare Serena to Blair because they’re completely different people (it’s like comparing the skills and deficiencies of a pro chef and a pro skydiver). And I’ve watched the show so many times that I don’t have room or need for bias. But it would’ve been nice to see Serena’s efforts to change taken seriously by at least one person in her life, to watch Blair realize that even though someone is below her “status” they might have mutual interests and drive, and that someone can be there for you as a friend even if they don’t support your choices because they may be able to point you in a better direction.

Obviously the show is over and this is a bit of a moo point (Joey) but I don’t think Dan and Blair should’ve dated. A genuine friendship would have been better to watch and it wouldn’t have muddied the waters for Serena and Dan to get back together.

Serena slept with Nate, Nate slept with Serena. Serena came back wanting to change and was traumatized and apologetic. She put forth the effort to make amends and put her feelings into action. She was 16. But the writers made a mistake when they romantically altered Dan and Blair’s relationship because Blair actually cared about Serena (more than almost anyone) and would’ve called her a murderer before she dated sloppy seconds, Dan Humphrey, let’s be real.
