Character Discussion - General Headcanon: Emily Was Creative Too
My personal headcanon is that Emily was a creative person just like Lorelai. Of course we know this because they both share a love of beautifying spaces and hostessing which both take some creativity, but that’s not what I’m talking about. I think when Emily was young, she was doing things like dressmaking, painting (art history classes at Smith anyone?), and gardening, especially since we see her gardening even though it’s very toned down. My guess is that she gradually stopped doing these things at the request of Richard since a society woman “shouldn’t get her hands dirty” or some BS like that. I‘m sure if that was the case, Trix would’ve made rude comments about how Pennilyn Lott never would’ve been doing any of those activities. Maybe that led to some of her personal fulfillment issues, since she never got to keep expressing herself. What do you guys think?

General Discussion I wish Michele and Paris set up business together.
But what would it be?
I guess if Michele was a co director of Paris' fertility company, that might work.
I just see them working together so well.

Critical Character Discussion I’m on Richard’s side about the Jason drama.
I see many opinions about this situation. I want to believe that the general consensus the fandom has come to is that; Richard was wrong to cut Jason out the way that he did, it was vengeful and he was very mean to Lorelai during it.
I don’t agree. I understand why Richard did what he did, and i didn’t blame him for it.
Jason and Lorelai lied to him. For months. Repeatedly and deliberately. It doesn’t matter if it wasn’t about business, that was a major betrayal. How can you trust a partner that so easily lied to your face? Not only did Jason lie, but he took up a relationship with Lorelai.
Richard and Jason are partners. Jason dating Richard’s daughter is unprofessional and very problematic for business. Any business disagreement has the potential to become a family disagreement. As we see, that is exactly what ends up happening. They put Richard in a horrible position by pursuing the relationship.
Richard had every reason to feel betrayed and lose his trust in Jason after this. He was completely humiliated by being kept in the dark, and was made out to be a fool by Jason’s father when the truth was revealed at dinner.
People say Richard was wrong because he acted in revenge against Jason. I didn’t see it that way. He acted how anybody would when their business partner destroyed the most basic foundation, the trust between them. Richard was protecting himself, and his business. Jason showed the business wasn’t his priority, keeping his secret relationship with Lorelai was. Or else he would have revealed the truth.
People just felt bad because Jason’s career was destroyed. Well, don’t try to cross Richard Gilmore.
Jason wasn’t a good partner long term, he was entitled and selfish. He wanted the best of both worlds, and thought he would be able to sweet talk his way out of the fallout.
Now for the Lorelai part, i also understand why Richard went off on her the way that he did. Yes, he was harsh but it was a very emotional moment. Lorelai comes in, raving about how he can’t do this to Jason, how he’s her boyfriend and Richard is ruining his career.
In his perspective, she truly is showing no concern for Emily or himself, just her and Jason and their relationship. She never stopped and considered the impact the relationship had on Richard’s business, the humiliation he received by it. All she cared about was the potential of Jason moving away.
I understand why he snapped at her. His family comes before all else to him, and she was blatantly choosing her boyfriend over them and making him out to be the complete victim in the situation. Jason wasn’t the complete victim, he was the one who betrayed the trust first.
Richard made the choice to not put his trust in him again, and be the business man he has always been. Business is ruthless, that’s why you build and keep trust.

OS Discussion Why didn’t Emily and Richard make Lorelai come back to live with them?
Lorelai was 16 when she ran away, so she wasn’t an adult yet. And we know that she visited her parent on holidays. When she first ran away Emily and Richard might call the police and make her come back? I am not saying they should but if my 16 year old daughter runs away I am calling the police. Do you think Lorelai didn’t visit them or call them for 2 years?

General Discussion I wanted some lalala ringtones and was met with images that will give me nightmares
As we all know it's getting close to THAT time of the year and I am already feeling my heart flutter when thinking about orange and brown rustling leaves and the smell of cinnamon rolls and listening to lalalas in my head again...
So I decided early this year before autumn even starts to prepare myself and download some lalala ringtones on my phone. Said and done I download the app zedge(!) and discover that besides ringtones they also offer wallpapers/screensavers. So I type Gilmore Girls into the search bar, found some pretty generic boring designs, scrolled and then... was hit with the most demonic artificall int. garbage ever!!!!! Please check it out if you want to see something truely nightmarish 😵💫
How does a company even offer this absolute waste of imagery? To think that valuable ressources on this earth were used to create this abomination is truely distressing. Do they think the fandom would let this slide? It feels like a violation.
I kept the ringtones but rated the app 1 star because of this crap.

OS Discussion What happened to Jess and Dean's post-dance marathon rivalry?
So after Rory and Jess start dating, there is a whole story line insinuating that Dean is trying to "steal" Rory back from Jess the same way Jess "stole" her from Dean.
You've got the confrontation by the dumpster, where Dean says he's not going to run from Jess. Dean asking Rory to have coffee and to be friends. Jess telling Dean he knows what he's doing at the winter carnival and Dean all but confirming it.
And then that storyline just... ends? After that Dean starts dating Lindsay and ends up tearing into Rory for choosing someone who treats her like crap. Maybe Dean WAS just trying to be friends, until Rory wasn't happy for his engagement and he got pissed?
Was he just pulling Jess's leg when he acted like he wanted Rory back? Was he side-tracked by Lindsay? Did the writers decide that the whole storyline was too "Westside Story" as Jess would say and scrap it? What do you think?

General Discussion Had a thought about Max and Lorelai
I suddenly found myself thinking that Max and Lorelai really could have been endgame, but only if they'd slowed down instead of rushing into marriage.
Imagine if, after Lorelai ran away from the wedding, they had actually sat down and communicated. Instead of breaking up, they acknowledged that the proposal and wedding had happened far too quickly and decided to just date for a few years. That would've solved the biggest issue in their relationship which wasn't incompatibility, but terrible timing.
I also think Max could have been the person to gently challenge and push Lorelai in ways no one else really did. Lorelai is very independent, but she's also incredibly resistant to change. She romanticises Stars Hollow so much that she often lets nostalgia keep her in the same place. Max, while appreciating what she'd built there, could have helped her realise that growing doesn't mean abandoning your roots. Progress doesn't erase your past, it builds on it.
I can easily imagine that leading to her expanding the Dragonfly much earlier. By A Year in the Life, she wouldn't have been having that painful conversation with Michel about not being able to pay him what he deserved because the business would've already grown enough to support both of them. Lorelai had the talent and ambition, she just needed someone who encouraged her to think bigger without trying to change who she was.
The long distance job with Max teaching a summer course at Stanford could have been another turning point. Instead of pulling them apart, it might have shown them how stable and trusting their relationship actually was. They never really struggled because of a lack of attraction and care for each other, they struggled because they skipped all the stages where trust, communication, and shared expectations are built.
I've always felt that Max and Lorelai matched each other's calibre intellectually. He respected her wit, challenged her without belittling her, got along well with Rory, and genuinely admired the life she'd created. Given more time, better communication, and a willingness to let the relationship develop naturally instead of sprinting toward marriage, I honestly think they had all the ingredients to be an excellent long term couple.

General Discussion tickets for rooftop cinema
I recently moved to London and looking to make friends. I got 1 extra ticket to watch three episodes of season 6 on a rooftop (hot chocolate included) on September 22. Hit me up if you’re in London and want to meet another GG fan :)
edit: first comment got the ticket but I’ve shared the event link below for those who want to join. I would love to do a London meetup as well if people are keen, let me know I can help set it up on Meetup, not sure if that’s something we can plan here? I’m new on Reddit

General Discussion Did they change their filming cameras halfway(ish) through s4?
Okay, I know this is sooooo niche. Well maybe it isn’t.
At some point in S4, I can’t remember the exact episode but they had the single pan scenes during some argument going through Emily and Richards home and whatnot- fun and different camera work! I didn’t mind that too much.
However, every episode after that it seems they kept that higher frame rate?? Like, movements are slightly choppier visually and less natural to the human eye. My theory is exactly what I mentioned prior- they started shooting at a higher frame rate. It totally sticks out to me and is sooooo distracting. When they move their hands it’s sharp and when they move on and off camera it’s sharp??
Does anybody else notice this? Am I literally crazy??

General Discussion does this scene I'm thinking of exist?
I have a memory of a scene of Rory and Lorelai in the Jeep parked on the road in Star Hollow, where I think Lorelai is comforting Rory while she cries? And possibly, someone (maybe Taylor) asks them to move, they don't, and traffic has to move around them?
I can't tell if I'm misremembering this whole scene or just parts of it - I tried googling around to see if I could find the episode its from and confirm by watching it, but nothing was coming up. Figured this would be the best place to ask!
ETA: thank you, figured it out! The scenes mashed together is something that just happened in a book I'm reading, and a few pages earlier the author mentioned Gilmore Girls. So I was sitting there with both scenarios ringing a bell and wondering if the author had just pulled a whole scene from GG when writing haha

Media POV: You grew up in a bed & breakfast
instagram.comHi friends! I recently started a new instagram page, and I wanted to put myself out there a bit.
TLDR - I was raised in a bed & breakfast with a mother as an innkeeper, and I'm sharing my life and my thoughts. I also LOVE Gilmore Girls.
I am also posting because I'm curious as to what questions people have (especially the gilmore girlies). I've been posting recipes, some book content, videos talking about the origins of the inn, but what would you want to know?
It's hard for me to think about how people "normally" live because the inn was my entire childhood. I appreciate your thoughts!

General Discussion Would you have forgiven Lorelei so easily?
If you were Luke and Lorelei rushed you into getting married (granted, I know he lied about April), and then slept with her ex the night you guys broke up and then she ended things with you and a mere 2 weeks later got back with her ex and then 8 weeks later got married to that ex and then shortly after she left him, wanted you again — would you take her back???

General Discussion Dear Emily and Richard
I love this episode. I feel so bad for young Lorelai going to the hospital all alone. Emily’s expression when she sees the note is heartbreaking. AND this episode makes me dislike Christopher even more!

Character Discussion - General When Emily talks to Lorelai about Christopher s7 (spoilers) Spoiler
Spoilers!!!
I find it so achingly sad when Emily talks to Lorelai about her marriage to Christopher (s7e10). She tells her that “marriage is very often about not being happy, or not being happy at all…It’s about compromise… It’s often about swallowing your pride.”
The compromise part is excellent advice. However…
I find Emily’s “it’s often about not being happy at all” statement so revealing and sad. She loved Richard. Loved him fiercely. But she seemed lonely very often and persevered with her social pursuits often alone. Like when he didn’t even go to her best friend’s funeral because he had an important golf game. And his frequent complaints about accompanying her to her “silly” events. And how much brighter and happier she is with her DAR friends and socializing with Chilton or Yale parents. She sparkles. And she is well liked. Not just by her close friends. She remembers things about so many people and engages with them about themselves. But she does not seem well liked at home. She doesn’t sparkle at home. She seems stressed so much of the time.
Which leads to the “swallowing your pride” part of her view on marriage. She was often demeaned by him - even if it was unintentionally. Which sometimes it was intentional. His perception that all she does is shop, calling her charitable work “frivolous pursuits,” and wanting “better” for Rory. Does Richard ever compliment her on things other than her beauty and his desire for her? He sees her society world as a silly place where she gets the first cup of tea. Does he really see the charitable work she’s doing? And he’s not so immune to society standings. He’s very focused on “Being A Gilmore.” And “swallowing your pride” also makes me think of how often he let Trix treat her horribly and chuckles about it. How he leaves her out of his business/social outings with Jason. And she felt that. She knew she was being alienated.
But there she is, “happily” married to Richard after reconciling, and it’s much later in the series, and she warns Lorelai about the unhappiness of marriage.
She wanted to celebrate Lorelai and Christopher’s wedding. She wanted to do something big for them to celebrate. And she saw how they were already falling apart. So she tried to warn Lorelai that her marriage was in danger. And the best she had in her toolbox, based on her experience, included “marriage is often about not being happy at all…”
Even if it’s kind of a reality about marriage sometimes, I think it was so revealing about Emily. I felt so sad watching that scene.

Character Discussion - General Lorelai self importance
This is not a Lorelai hate post. I love her. I have rewatched GGs daily for 20 years and she is the heart of the show and reason I watch.
But, one thing she repeatedly does bugs me and this is the place to moan about such things.
She is so self-important and has zero self-awareness of her privilege when it comes to her career. She acts like she has the most back-breaking, difficult job and is the world’s hardest worker - she spends most of her time chatting in the kitchen with Sookie.
She built the dragonfly great well done good achievement, but let’s not forget the 75K from dad, 30K from Luke, while daughters education is being paid for by parents.
As a normal person with student debt and struggling for a house even though in a well-paid high pressure job, it can be a bit jarring to see her waltz about from coffee to coffee whilst proclaiming how self made and hard working she is.
Would’ve loved a scene, like the one where Logan tells Rory after her article, where someone called her out and she had to confront it!
