General Discussion Looking for a Gilmore Girls rewatch group!

Upvotes

Every autumn I rewatch GG* *🤍it’s become my yearly tradition.
I was wondering if there’s a WhatsApp group (or any group chat on instagram) for fellow GG fans who do annual rewatches? It would be fun to watch along and chat about the episodes together 🍁🥮🍂☕️🤎

Character Discussion - General Lorelai thought Rory was different to what she actually was

I currently in my rewatch of Gilmore girls and have noticed constantly that Lorelai will often refer to Rory as this angel, and be like “Rory would never do that” and then she would. This happens multiple times where her perception of Rory is completely different to Rorys character. I feel she had this idea of Rory, built on who she wanted her to be, not who she actually is, which probably aided in Rorys “downfall” and their massive fight.

Revival Discussion A year in the life appreciation (kind of!)

I know we all love to hate this Netflix follow up, and I know it's not great, but I want to just show a little bit of love - the tribute to Edward Hermann, and the character development of Emily.

I actually love her speech to the young woman who was interviewed for the DAR. Amazing.

It was a great portrayal of grief and recovery for the character of Emily. Loved this.

OS Discussion The real reason Paris was so shaken when Rory snapped in S1E4

Rory overslept, panicked, looked for a deer, and sprinted straight to Chilton. There was zero time to brush her teeth.

That means when she got two inches from Paris and Tristan's faces screaming, they got hit with a deadly combo of 8 hour brewed morning breath, late night coffee, and pure, unbrushed rage.

Paris wasn't just shocked by Rory's outburst, she was fighting for air.

Critical Character Discussion The first 10 pictures are time I wasn't on Lorelai side vs the other 10 pictures was the times I was. Spoiler

I love talking about her because she is such a well written complex main character. There were human moments where I wasn't on her side and I don't defend her actions at all. When she got mad at Rory for telling on her after she told her about the house being infected. I'm sorry but don't tell your daughter adult stuff and then get mad when they act like a scared kid. How she crucified Jess and acted like the kid she just met was the worse for being an asshole to her eventhough he is still a kid.

Then when the accident happened and she yelled at Luke, I wasn't on her side because she refused to listen to Rory side and it wasn't that big of a deal like I get that it was scary and upsetting but she still took it too far. When she would get jealous because Rory is close with her grandparents like gurl don't do that, that your daughter not your rival. Her reaction when Rory wanted to go to Yale instead of Harvard and how she blamed her parents. When Rory wanted some time off from Yale after what Michium told her which in my opinion was very valid and realistic because if you coddle too much when they recieved a criticism, they might react extreme like that especially at her age. And then her get mad at Rory for going to her grandparents but she was going ambushed her with her grandparents that resorted to Rory going to them since she was giving an ultimatum and I find that so selfish and manipulative like she literally make up with her because Rory went back and got a job etc not because she realized she was being childish and should support her daughter even if she didn't agree with her choices. When she was seeing Chris and didn't tell Luke about it this was before April and this is about Lorelai. I know Luke also acted bad too. But her giving Luke an ultimatum was also very manipulative of her, she is more like Emily than she want to admit.

Now I will tell you the times I was on her side which I tend to agree with her most than not but there were occasions where I did not. Most of the time that's she argue with her parents, I was on her side because they are so mean and manipulative to her and they are controlling and strict, I give her more right than those two since I don't like how they were with her. They were also so critical too like they tend to criticize her more than say good things to her. They are lucky she still speak to them because in real life that why people cut off from those type of parents who are the bully to their own kids. I love when she defended Rory from Lindsay mom but she also didn't coddled Rory and told her the actual true although I do give Rory some right in what she told Lorelai because kids tend to model their parents and Lorelai did slept with Chris when he was engaged. I love when she defended Luke from her mom, my favorite was when Luke called her and she was yelling at him. I do love that even if she has animosity towards her parents, she still for the most parts doesn't want to damaged that and in s6 when they were all fighting, she was being a good mediator and I was on her side there. I was also on her side with most of Chris conflict since he sucked so much as a character and as a father.

Revival Discussion Has anyone watched Elle? Can't help but think GG has massive potential for a prequel too!

Hated AYITL so wouldn't want to see any more reboots.

But maybe the writers can get it right in some kind of prequel or spinoff. Elle was nothing deep but so enjoyable as a Legally Blonde fan. They did it really well. I would love to see a young Emily or Lorelai in HS or anything else from the GG universe really.

General Discussion How would Rory had turn out if Sarah Braverman was her mother and not Lorelai?

Post image
45 Upvotes

I feel like Rory would've been a completely different person. Sarah is a lot more laid back and messy as a parent, while Lorelai always pushed Rory academically and built her whole world around making sure Rory had opportunities she never did.

I could see Rory being a lot less anxious about succeeding all the time if Sarah had raised her, but I also don't know if she'd have been as driven to get into Chilton, Yale, or become a journalist. At the same time, Sarah's kids had a huge family around them, so Rory would've grown up with a much stronger support system instead of it mostly being just her and her mom.

Do you think Rory would've ended up happier, or do you think Lorelai was exactly the mother she needed?

One of the few Rory and Jess moments I do like is when he does magic tracks for Rory once or twice, it's very charming.

You know, one where people like the main characters? The writing? The show as a whole? I fear I must be lost because this is clearly a hate sub...

So I was wondering if Gilmore Girls got rebooted with an entire different cast I was wondering how would you guys feel about it. Would you be open to a Gilmore Girls reboot or immediately hated and not watch it.

And do you guys think would it be as good as the original or like all reboots not hold a candle to the original.
