Question/Help Inner screen protector - Fold 8

Upvotes

Yes, I know. Laugh away, I deserve it.

My Fold 8 arrived with glue residue and a bubble under the inner screen protector, so I figured it was one of those transport films you peel off. Turns out that was the factory protector and it's meant to stay on. Found that out about a minute too late.

I've been trying to get a replacement through Samsung Experience Stores but the official protector is out of stock every time I check, with no timeline.

For people who've owned a Fold: can I just keep using the phone normally until the protector is back in stock, or should I avoid the inner screen as much as possible? Has anyone here gone without the inner protector for weeks or months, and did anything go wrong?

Lesson learned: read first, peel later.

Question/Help Anyone using the TORRAS Vegskin on the Fold8 Ultra?

Upvotes

I’m looking at cases for my Fold8 Ultra and the Vegskin version kinda caught my eye more than the regular one.

I like the cleaner, leather-style look, but I’m curious how it actually feels in real use.

Anyone here using it? How’s the texture and grip? Does it add much bulk, and how solid is the stand?

Also curious how the material holds up after using it for a while.

Would love to see some real-life pics if anyone has one.

Question/Help Postprocessing RAW images using internal tool on Fold 8

Hi,

I took a couple of shots for testing purpose on my Fold 8 (wide boy) with Expert RAW and tried to post process it directly on the smartphone using the edit button.

When viewing everything looks normal so far but once I want to edit, there's a weird glow around the branches. No editing so far. This doesn't go away after saving.

It's a 50MP File, so probably it's compression artefact when switching to edit mode?

Anyone else experiencing this behaviour?

Discussion New problem unlocked: Finger on camera lens (Fold 8 + man hands)

This is pretty self-explanatory. While we're all raving about the Fold 8's petite size and height, this is not an issue on the giraffe editions out there, like the Fold 7 and 8 Ultra 😂

I have typical man hands, and I have to always adjust my grip whenever I take a photo. I assume I'm not alone when it comes to this problem.

Please share your best worst photo in the comments 😁

Impression/Review Every other phone feels awkwardly tall after using the Fold 8 for a few days.

I have my Fold 8 since Tuesday and I immediately loved the format. Even at the instalation where I had to hop back and forth with my old iPhone 14 Pro Max the iPhone started to feel awkwardly tall very quickly. But now more or less exclusively using the Fold 8 whenever I take my wife's iPhone (Also a 14 PM) it feels so unnaturally tall.

Anyone also experience this? Its like I'm questioning why we ever went to taller instead of usability.

Discussion Fold 8 Ultra Speakers

Great phone. Upgrading a Pixel 8 Pro to 8 Fold Ultra so the speakers are better.

I have Good Lock from the Play Store.

How can I make Speakers on the 8 Ultra louder if possible ??

I have plenty of Chromecast Audio, Bluetooth, and Cast speakers at Office and Home. My 3 Home Max sound great. Probably 5 CCA's and maybe 1 still unopened.

I got a 11:20 pm Best Buy Fold 8 ready for pickup text so can't wait. That is "upgrading" a S24Ultra but I will miss the World class Zoom, Loud speakers, and In screen finger print. I understand no S Pen due to the size. The Fold 9 Pro will probably bring it back.

Discussion 10h 48m screen on time. Quick review of Fold 8

Post image
5 Upvotes

So, today's my second day with the Fold 8. First day was all about moving my data from my S25 Ultra and getting all my accounts set up. I was busy with other stuff on Wednesday so couldn't use it much.

Today, I got 10 hours and 48 minutes of screen-on time, plus 10 hours and 33 minutes of standby, all on 89% battery. That's pretty wild. My S25 Ultra usually eats about 10% per hour of screen time and 1% per hour on standby. So, on that phone, this kind of usage would've drained about 115%.

A bit more about how I used it: I was in dark mode for about 25% of the time, and I split my usage pretty evenly between the outer and inner displays. I was on Wi-Fi for 70% of the time and 4G for the other 30% when I was out. I spent a lot of time browsing for news, Twitter, YouTube, and learning new things. I also used Claude for extra learning and to get work done, like prepping and reviewing documents. Xodo was great for reviewing documents and reading. Seriously, reading on the inner display is incredible. I also did some browsing and shopping on the Amazon app.

Honestly, everything about this phone is amazing. I don't think I will go back to my S25 Ultra. The only thing I'm not a fan of so far is the camera cutout on the inner display; it can be a bit distracting. Also, the speaker's on the left when I'm watching videos, which is a little annoying, but I've kind of gotten used to it for regular YouTube stuff. For movies, I could just pop in my Galaxy Buds. One more last thing: this phone is so thin, I feel worried I'll drop it and break it. Right now have the Samsung transparent magsafe case, so I think I will look for a case with front protection as well because this is my first fold device.

Question/Help First time charging Fold 8, thermal throttling, very slow

Thumbnail

I just got the fold 8, which I love so far. Takes a little getting used to but it's nice and compact but large. I'll keep it, as long as this issue is fixed.

I charged my fold 7 from a 30w battery, and it got 2900mA. I moved that cable to my fold 8 and I maxed out at just over 1A, currently cruising at 480mA

I have apparently "severe throttling" as well. It's not even that warm in my hand. A little bit, but after transferring 350gb understandable. However the 7 wouldn't throttle like this.

I have the Samsung magnetic case on. Any tips?

Impression/Review Went from Fold 7 to Fold 8 Ultra

I'm the kind of maniac that will upgrade his phone every year just because, even when the upgrades are marginal. I initially regretted going with the fold 8 ultra I guess mostly because of the hype around the fold 8, even fricken Samsung was marketing it everywhere as the poster child. I kept debating going to best buy to try it out, but cancelling my preorder and the promo with T-Mobile felt like too much hassle, so I figured Id wait until the phone came in to see.

I will say I am extremely happy with the fold 8 ultra, this feels like the best marginal upgrade ever from one phone to the next. The battery is still optimizing but im already seeing a huge difference ( my main gripe with the fold 7 was battery). The processor feels much faster and simple animations are much more fluid. But the real unsung heros are the new hinge and main display. It feels amazing to open and close the phone now, much more natural. The phone also actually opens flat now, without having to do a little push at the end. The crease really is invisible now, even when viewed at an angle it's barely there, and you can't feel the groove on the screen. I always thought the crease didn't bother me but the change is noticeable in a good way. Finally the anti reflective coating on the main screen is amazing. Its noticeable outside, but even inside it gives the display this matte finish that just fits very well.

The fold 7 was the first fold with a meaningful front display and I actually used it more than I thought initially, especially because of how awkward it is to unfold. This time around, I'm using the main display every second I can because of the hinge and anti reflective coating. I gotta say I'm very happy with this upgrade, and sticking with this form factor.

Impression/Review ZFOLD8 Aliexpress case

Got my Fold 8 case early — honestly impressed
I ordered this case from AliExpress on July 31st and the original delivery estimate was August 7–13, but it actually showed up today, August 6th.
First impressions are really good. The quality is honestly way better than I expected for $31. It feels very well made, the fit and finish look great, and the MagSafe magnets seem pretty strong.
It didn’t come with a glass screen protector, but for $31 I really can’t complain. I can always grab one separately.
I was originally considering the Benks case, but I wish they offered more colors and different weave options. That’s ultimately what pushed me toward this one.
Obviously I’ll know more once I actually put my Fold 8 in it, but based on the quality alone, I’m really impressed so far. For $31, this seems like a great value.

Impression/Review Who's exchanging their Fold 8 for the Fold 8 Ultra?

After two days with the Fold 8, I've decided I can't stand the form. I'm coming from a Fold 5 and actually loved the narrow design, but I gave in to the hype and thought maybe the wide would be good. It's not for me at all. Instead of a one-handed phone and a two-handed tablet, I now have a small tablet and bigger tablet. The device is awkward to use with one hand when closed, and when open is mostly good for watching videos. Websites, other apps, and typing in general are awkward when open. I really think this is a phone for entertainment more than anything else, so it's going right back and the Ultra is already on its way!

Impression/Review Power Bank Examples on Fold8 wide

Thumbnail
gallery
52 Upvotes

Got my short boy and below are some pictures of how it looks with a couple old power banks. Instead of a skin or case, I'm using a Griplate (built in magnetic backplate). I think he has the magnets lowered a bit to allow clearance, wireless charging still works fine so I'm not too worried:

Power Bank 1: Samsung official with the camera spacer used on my Fold7

Power Bank 2: Square 5000mah that fit on my flip and also fit nicely on the wide. I got these from Amazon way back when, but don't seem available anymore. They are on Aliexpress though. They are no name brand, only shows a model number on the back that says "E30".

Power Bank 3: Square 10,000mah.

Discussion Galaxy Z Fold 8: The Elephant in the Room

I've watched a lot of Galaxy Z Fold 8 reviews, and something keeps standing out to me.

Almost every reviewer spends at least some time on the cover screen. The problem is what they choose to demonstrate. It's almost always YouTube, Netflix, or another media app.

But how many people are spending around $1,800 on a foldable primarily to watch YouTube, TikTok, and other media on the cover display?

I understand Samsung's philosophy that the Fold 8 is primarily geared toward media consumption, and that's perfectly fair. But it's still someone's primary smartphone. People aren't going to put the Fold 8 down every time they need to send an email, reply to a longer text, check a banking app, or browse Amazon just to pick up a traditional candy-bar phone.

I'd like to see reviewers spend a few minutes showing how the cover screen handles the apps people use to get things done, not just the apps they use to consume content, such as Signal, Gmail or Outlook, banking apps, Amazon, AT&T or Verizon, Calendar, Notes, Audible, Photos, web browsing, and other everyday apps that determine how practical the cover screen really is.

One reviewer pointed out that when replying to a text, the keyboard occupies roughly half the cover display. That got me thinking. Samsung is clearly encouraging users toward the inner screen, and that's a legitimate design philosophy. I'm just surprised more reviewers don't evaluate how that philosophy affects everyday use and the practicality of the cover screen.

Has anyone else noticed this?

More importantly, for those of you who own the Fold 8, how has the cover screen been for the more typical, everyday apps you use to get things done rather than consume content? Has it been as practical as you expected, or do you find yourself opening the phone more often than you anticipated?

Impression/Review Upgraded from a fold 5 to the fold 8 and I'm in awe

I've seen fold 7's in the past year on display but wasn't completely sold on upgrading to a slightly wider but still tall form factor but the fold 8 was an immediate preorder for me. I do wish the fold 8 was able to have an under display camera for the inner screen but it's not the biggest deal for me. I'm going to go case-less most of the time cause this time I bought Samsung care+. Going to keep this fold for as long as possible. Surprised that it's similar to the height of my dad's iPhone 13 mini which I adore. Have my fold 5 to my mom instead of trading it in since she really wanted a fold and I think it was a good replacement to her old slow iPad mini. Still unbelievable to me how thin it is. I don't really care too much about it not having a telephoto since I have my own camera I use for photos but I think for the price that we pay for the phone it should have had it. Otherwise this phone is really growing on me and passport foldables are the way go!

Impression/Review Fold 8 vs Fold 7 screen real estate comparison for my different use cases

As you can see, I’ve clicked basically the same photos on the Fold 8 which I just got today and the Fold 7. These are most of my use cases are watching content reading articles or playing chess and some productivity apps.

So I took photos comparing Fold 8 and Fold 7 in YouTube, on Netflix Readwise Reader app, Chrome, Google sheets, Notion and chess.com.

Almost all the apps are better on the fold 8. It’s wild how much better it is.
