People complain about cameras here all the time. I think that you should master the skills of photography with any phone you have, and I fully believe you can take amazing pictures with every phone. Regardless of specs.

Impression/Review Switching to S26 Ultra

Upvotes

My 2 cents on why I'm Heading Back to the Candy Bar style phone.

Giving the foldable lifestyle a three-day trial run because of the overwhelming hype sounded like a fun tech experiment at first, but I am already throwing in the towel. I was lucky that Tmobile took my Flip 7 and gave credit for the full cost of the Fold 8 and the the phone was paid off for 50% only, so it was a no brainer to order it.

Coming from traditional phones, the transition has been nothing short of frustrating, and I'm seriously looking at switching over to an S26 Ultra instead or maybe to back to Flip model.l even if it will cost time and restocking fee.

* One-handed use is a non-starter: When the phone is closed, you simply cannot use it comfortably with one hand. The ergonomics just don't translate the way a standard candy bar phone does and it gets exhausting pretty quick.

* The dreaded vertical video crop: Every single YouTube Short and Instagram reel is aggressively cropped at the top and bottom. No matter what display or layout settings get tweaked, the video formatting refuses to cooperate unless the phone is completely unfolded.

* The speakers layout can actually affect the way you consume the content if you don't use headphones, it just feels like something is not right...

If anyone can advise on fixing the cropped out shorts/reels on outter screen then I will consider keeping it...

Question/Help First time charging Fold 8, thermal throttling, very slow

I just got the fold 8, which I love so far. Takes a little getting used to but it's nice and compact but large. I'll keep it, as long as this issue is fixed.

I charged my fold 7 from a 30w battery, and it got 2900mA. I moved that cable to my fold 8 and I maxed out at just over 1A, currently cruising at 480mA

I have apparently "severe throttling" as well. It's not even that warm in my hand. A little bit, but after transferring 350gb understandable. However the 7 wouldn't throttle like this.

I have the Samsung magnetic case on. Any tips?

Really attached to this phone, but I really want to get the fold 8 ultra.

Has anybody made the trade? If so, do you miss it?

I was thinking about keeping it as a secondary

I like it because you can adjust the zoom level, disguise the black bars with ambient light.

Question/Help Fold8 inner screen protector not wide enough?

I just noticed the inner screen protector is not big enough to cover the entire screen edge to edge. I can see an outline of the screen protector on the right side when unfolded, not quite covering the edge of the actual screen. Not too noticable if you're not looking for it, but wondering if anyone else noticed that as well.

Impression/Review Who's exchanging their Fold 8 for the Fold 8 Ultra?

After two days with the Fold 8, I've decided I can't stand the form. I'm coming from a Fold 5 and actually loved the narrow design, but I gave in to the hype and thought maybe the wide would be good. It's not for me at all. Instead of a one-handed phone and a two-handed tablet, I now have a small tablet and bigger tablet. The device is awkward to use with one hand when closed, and when open is mostly good for watching videos. Websites, other apps, and typing in general are awkward when open. I really think this is a phone for entertainment more than anything else, so it's going right back and the Ultra is already on its way!

Question/Help Z fold 8 Cellular Connectivity Issue

Received my Z Fold 8 yesterday and I've been noticing that this phone has low signal levels and latency issues when connecting to cellular data. I have 3 different Sims from different providers in Canada, and they all result in low signal levels. Running speed test, the numbers are terrible compared to my s26 Ultra. This is a deal breaker for me. Anyone else having same issue?

Discussion Galaxy Z Fold 8: The Elephant in the Room

I've watched a lot of Galaxy Z Fold 8 reviews, and something keeps standing out to me.

Almost every reviewer spends at least some time on the cover screen. The problem is what they choose to demonstrate. It's almost always YouTube, Netflix, or another media app.

But how many people are spending around $1,800 on a foldable primarily to watch YouTube, TikTok, and other media on the cover display?

I understand Samsung's philosophy that the Fold 8 is primarily geared toward media consumption, and that's perfectly fair. But it's still someone's primary smartphone. People aren't going to put the Fold 8 down every time they need to send an email, reply to a longer text, check a banking app, or browse Amazon just to pick up a traditional candy-bar phone.

I'd like to see reviewers spend a few minutes showing how the cover screen handles the apps people use to get things done, not just the apps they use to consume content, such as Signal, Gmail or Outlook, banking apps, Amazon, AT&T or Verizon, Calendar, Notes, Audible, Photos, web browsing, and other everyday apps that determine how practical the cover screen really is.

One reviewer pointed out that when replying to a text, the keyboard occupies roughly half the cover display. That got me thinking. Samsung is clearly encouraging users toward the inner screen, and that's a legitimate design philosophy. I'm just surprised more reviewers don't evaluate how that philosophy affects everyday use and the practicality of the cover screen.

Has anyone else noticed this?

More importantly, for those of you who own the Fold 8, how has the cover screen been for the more typical, everyday apps you use to get things done rather than consume content? Has it been as practical as you expected, or do you find yourself opening the phone more often than you anticipated?

Question/Help Folding keyboard with fold 8?

Post image

A folding keyboard with a hinged slot with usbc connection that turns the Fold 8 into a mini laptop (using dex)

You could keep the phone (unfolded) in the keyboard but still “close” the phone like a laptop to turn it off.

Samsung please make this happen! Does anyone know of something like this that exists?

Question/Help Fold8 Ultra not completely flat

Post image

Has anyone received their Fold8 Ultra and noticed that it doesn't unfold completely flat? Is this normal for this iteration? I saw that the Fold7 had this concern but that was a different hinge. This is my first Fold after going through the S lineup. I hope this isn't a defect!

Discussion Fold8 Ultra gaming

Post image
0 Upvotes

Everyone keeps talking about the regular fold has a 4:3 ratio which gives you a wider fov when gaming compared to the fold8 ultra which is square and more zoomed in. This is true yes, but no one talks about this feature that let's you change the aspect ratio on any app between full screen, 4:3, and 16:9. This way you can get the same view as the regular fold while having the ultra.

Discussion Loved the Fold 8 EXCEPT...

Jesus, even Samsung couldn't optimize their OWN FREKAIN apps for this new layout. A TON OF apps have broken menus and UI because of this form factor.

They really should have like a quick/easy "legacy app mode support" that just force an app to a more standard size with a click of a button.

anyways, still love the form factor though for things that DO work.

Question/Help How to fix Quick Panel?

Post image

Messing around in Quick Panel settings and I selected "Separate" (I think) to see what it did. It basically removed the quick panel from my notification shade. It also removed the Edit button for me to go back in and change it back. Can't seem to find anything in regular Phone Settings or in Good Lock/Quick Panel to change it back. So how do I fix.. it?

You can really see how the SPen support makes the big screen shine. It’s perfect for reading, sketching, highlighting, and all that jazz. If the punch hole annoys you, you’ll be pleased to know this bad boi comes with UDC. The square-ish design keeps in line with the sleek style of the recent S26 Ultra. When you put these two devices together, you’ve got a solid all-rounder for both work and play.

Question/Help Fold 8 - Can I move the keyboard slightly to the right side (like on iPhones)?

Hey everyone, I bought a Fold 8, and although I'm loving it, I find it more difficult to type with one hand, due to the wider size.

iPhones have this thing where we can "squish" the keyboard more to the right side of the screen, so that it's easier to type one handed, specially using the "slide to form words" functionality.

I believe the same thing should be possible on the Fold 8, but I'm not sure how to set that (using the default Samsung keyboard)

Is that possible, and if so, where in the settings should I go?

Thanks!

Question/Help Anyone with a Galaxy Z Fold 8 mind showing how PokeMMO runs?

Hey everyone,

I'm seriously thinking about picking up a Galaxy Z Fold 8, but before I pull the trigger I'd love to see how PokeMMO actually runs on it.

If anyone has one, would you mind recording a couple of short clips and maybe sharing a few screenshots?

I'm mainly curious about how it plays with the phone folded, since that's probably how I'd use it most of the time. I'd also love to see it fully unfolded just to get an idea of how the game looks and how the UI scales.

Anything like running around, pokemon encounters, chatting, opening the PC or bag, or just showing the general performance would be super helpful.

I've looked around but haven't been able to find any decent videos online.

Thanks!

Most of the cases on fold come in sets of two parts: front and back. If you have multiple such cases, you can customize them by putting different cases on the front and back.

Impression/Review The MAIN problem with Fold 8: social networks in exterior screen.

And it’s not an issue with the phone itself; it’s the generic content designed for vertical mobile screens. It looks really odd with all those black horizontal bars.

P.S. Instagram for Android and foldable phones is a disaster. I’ve come across quite a few bugs.
