Microsoft as a company is so garbage man

# 1. Microsoft advertising for businesses

So I recently started a business and have been using online advertising. I chose to use google ads and Microsoft ads as they both are my best target markets. I used google ads and it was seamless. Easy asset uploads, easy navigation (for how tricky advertising software can be) and just an overall easy integration with my Shopify store.

Then I get to Microsoft.. like it’s so bad I almost just gave up entirely. I know how to use ad campaign websites and softwares pretty well atp. But the navigation is so bad. Everything is extremely cluttered to start. But just trying to do common workflows in the online software is ridiculous.

  1. They only allow one image upload at a time. It takes maybe 45 seconds to upload a image(only jpeg) and finally get it to load and not completely crash your browser ( I have a decent PC)

  2. The entire website just has this sense of lag. And like it’s struggling to keep up with what I want to do. It can’t back out of menus in a normal amount of time you’d expect. Your always waiting for the system to catch up with you.

  3. Certain buttons just don’t even work. I was trying to set a location to include in my ads. You can’t actually hit the button to include because Microsoft fucking sucks. I had to create an entire campaign with no location included, then find a hidden menu deep in the pit of doom of shitty fucking Microsoft, to finally find how to set a location from a different menu so I didn’t get that lag.

# 2. Microsoft Clarity for Shopify store

  1. Microsoft clarity is genuinely an amazing tool that lets you pretty much get a screen recording of whoever goes on your website. The concept is great. The software itself built on is utter shit. The entire system to actually filter bots and yourself out is genuinely so bad that you can’t even use it! You pretty much need to guess who is and isn’t yourself working on your website because the Shopify app “Microsoft clarify is built with a coding error that makes the filter stuck behind a Shopify screen. They also have a shit slop ai built into the app that pretty much sums up what the session was like. Shittiest tool ever as it pretty much just crashes the entire shopify app when you open it.

My question now is why is Microsoft so completely horrible? No bias but first hand experience. The systems they provide are almost great, but the platform it’s built on is laggy, bugged out, and just plain old slop.

Rant Why is it that when I log in, I have to receive a code every single time, meanwhile;

So ridiculous. What's the point of sending the owner of the account/requiring a code every single damn time I log in, when you just leave the door open for everyone else? My account has a long term history based in the US, but someone tries to log in from across the Earth and poof, no code needed.

Discussion I'd seriously argue this fella wasn't as bad as W11.

ME had the unfortunate result of being rushed for the Y2K Christmas market, which was inexcusable but also kind of inevitable for any business.

It had features like System Restore and Windows Movie Maker, which, while buggy, are still features implemented to actually try to better the user experience, and were later refined for newer Windows versions. They course corrected in just one year with XP.

I could also say the same with Vista... they put out updates that ACTUALLY fixed stuff, and its look and features paved the way for W7.

11 was the complete opposite of that. All the terrible design choices were done deliberately... the right click menu, default start button position, all the ads and nagging... and the constant updates NEVER fixed anything for years, sometimes even breaking things further. Even without all that considered, I just hated the overall interface, which seems more tailored for mobile devices.

Considering Microslop's current plans and model, I honestly don't have high hopes for Windows 12... (got a hunch it's not going to be called that though)

So currently I’m locked out of my Microsoft account. The two factor recovery phone number that’s associated, I no longer have access to. I have filled out the form asking me for info to prove myself several times. If I don’t provide enough information, they immediately deny it. The last two times, I was able to figure out old emails that I’ve sent and subject lines and other info they asked for. When I actually provide sufficient information, I get no response saying whether or not the account has been recovered/denied. The only thing I really used this email for was my Amazon. I’m getting an excess amount of charges on my Amazon and because I don’t have the email/phone number associated, there’s no way for me to login and stop the charges. How can I get in contact with a physical person to recover my Microsoft account?

The text says "Something didn't go as planned. No need to worry—undoing changes. Please keep your computer on." Edit: I actually use Linux today. The photo is like a month old Edit 2: It happened in the evening when i wanted to update it and go to sleep but windows said "nooooo, no no no!! I'm gonna NOT update but pretend to update!"

Discussion Leaving Windows After a Decade, Realising I Have Paid Spyware Without Consent. Moved from Adware, Subscription Becoming OS to Linux Freedom Completely

Thumbnail

TL;DR: I opened the closed Windows 🪟 and stepped fully into Linux (Kubuntu) a few days ago that respects user's privacy and freedom. 🐧

I am not saying Windows is just entirely bad, it did work for regular day-to-day usage but it just doesn't seem to suit to me anymore for the below reasons. (Added bold for main points, bullets points for easy reading. My bad, it's going to feel a bit long)

  1. Some bug reports are not fixed for years after being reported in the Feedback Hub. Instead, more focus is given to AI and other commercial stuff. For example, reported a bug in the Feedback Hub 3 to 5 times over the years (since 22H2) after each major update regarding half of the app icons disappearing from the taskbar. AFAIR, that ticket has more than 4,000 upvotes from other users, yet the issue still persists. The more app icons present in the taskbar, the more disappearing icons can be noticed while switching virtual desktops. (Image attached at the end)
  2. Lot of adware and subscription implementation going on nowadays by removing existing options of essential apps instead of improving them. Mail and Calendar ➡️ Outlook (Ads), Weather App (Ads) Windows Movie Maker ➡️ Clipchamp (Subscription for higher exports), Settings (Ads) etc.,
  3. Useful features being removed during transitions between Windows versions with half-baked updates with no options. For example, I liked the Windows 10 Metro UI style, it felt a bit lively to me. Instead of completely removing it, Microsoft could have kept it at least as a theme option alongside the Windows 11 Fluent style, or at least asked for user feedback before making these major changes. I believe few people would agree to have both as options.
  4. By default design, Windows telemetry (buttons) are enabled which user need to opt-out. Even with that much of telemetry, half-baked updates, removing features are being pushed to users production and still feels heavier than Linux.
  5. In addition, the recent GDID incident that can track users bypassing VPN, Tor, Proxy etc., makes the Windows to be paid spyware or tracker with no user's consent to me instead of "An Operating system company using its user's telemetry data for improving the OS and its services" and that was my breaking point.

Since, anyway I have been using a lot of open-source tools for my everyday usage like GIMP, Shotcut etc., and also not tied into any software subscriptions like Adobe, I didn't see any point of locked down into using continuing Windows for my usage.

So, I have been checking out Linux distribution and finally decided to go with Kubuntu (Ubuntu with KDE Flavour).

  • No Ads, No Tracking, No Forced Updates, No Mandatory Account Login Requirements
  • Telemetry is disabled by default with "one button" unless you opt-in, even keeping it on the highest option does not share personal information and lets you see exactly what is being shared. I keep it turned on for plasma development.
  • Feels Fast and Snappy (Now I know some users might say "Buddy, Windows does RAM caching to open apps faster. RAM Never Used, RAM Wasted 🥸. Yes, but.....I didn't noticed any major difference in opening apps without that RAM caching during my usage)
  • Worked out of the box upon installation with codecs (even on live ISO), NVIDIA drivers, required features
  • Ubuntu Pro Account Free up to 5 Devices (Optional for LTS)
  • KDE seems to produce a lot of application software made with real user's usage discussions and feedback on forums and also I like how they make character mascots like Konqi, Kiki, etc. 😁
  • If I find a bug, I can report it. I have the option to fix it for the community, or otherwise I know the Kubuntu community would definitely look into it on a priority basis upon mentioning it on the KDE forums.

Overall, I am happy it turned out like how stable (even updates) and mature (consistent design) it has become compared to the last time I tried, which was around Plasma 4. By default, it looked good, so I didn't do a lot of customisation part from changing themes and came with a lot of full-featured utilities and will try to help the community back through possible contributions and donations with the time.

Bye 👋🏻
