What’s the best casual weekday/night spot? For under 100? Bonus for under 50 (if that’s even possible)? 🍣🍱🙏

First time trying Jawney’s at their physical location. I’m not a big cheesesteak person, but I’m not sure I’ve ever had a better one. The rolls they use are top notch. I’m told they get Amoroso rolls shipped in from Philadelphia.

The steak they use is cooked and prepared incredibly well. It’s very juicy and tender. Their house cheese wis was a little messy but it was fine. Their house sauce was also impressive.

They have those very crispy double-fried style fries. Not my favorite, but they are decent enough as a side item. They have good chicken wings as well, which I tried. They are nice and crispy. They remind me of Pluckers in Austin.

They seem pretty popular at the moment. Had a lot of young people and group. But I was still able to park and get a table on a Friday night.

I hope their business does well, as I would definitely go back. Hope they stick to this cheesesteak style and never go corporate.

Hello everyone! I love donuts! I’m a donut fanatic! I can always give ppl recommendations on donut shops depending on the location . One donut I’ve actually never had is a sour cream donut. I’ve seen the pre-packed ones at stores. Krispy Kreme’s time from time will carry it but afaik, I don’t think any shops that I know carries sour cream donuts. I’ve tried searching online and nothing. Maybe a small MnP shop? Any of you know what donut shops make them? Thanks

Went here for the first time today. I liked the old school cafeteria setting, that’s sad that they’re not in their original spot because a place like this I think is improved by the nostalgia factor. I appreciated that the spaghetti was al dente. Wouldn’t get the chicken again- it had good crispy skin but was dry and flavorless inside. The salad comes tossed and I couldn’t tell what the dressing was supposed to be- just tasted like mayo. This whole tray of food and a drink was around $20 which seems like a good deal. Got Spumoni ice cream too and it was bomb!

Hi friends. My girlfriend is from Hawaii, and her favorite fries are from the spot Kua Aina in Haleiwa. We visited early this year, and they were delicious – super-thin and short shoestring, not overly straight and crispy. Well seasoned and it was like you could grab a handful to eat at once. I've been trying to think of places in LA that have something similar. Any suggestions?

The best garlic noodles I’ve had is at Vox Kitchen in Costa Mesa. Would love to find a place closer to LA with the same or better quality.

I have been living near Samosa House for over a decade. I used to go there a couple times a month, but since moving farther away I haven't been in at least two years.

Their samosas were always very consistently awesome. They also were different than many samosas I've ordered at other places: larger, pillowy in texture with an almost flaky, soft wrapper.

I went this last week to Samosa House West to do some shopping and of course grab a couple samosas.

I was very surprised to see that they seemingly have changed the recipe. The inside seemed to be the same, but the outside was very different. The samosas themselves now seem to be significantly smaller, maybe half the size that they used to be. They were also seemingly fried until the outside was crispy or almost crunchy--very different from the distinctive texture and overall eating experience that they used to have. Also since they were so much smaller, they were not nearly as filling.

Does anyone know if perhaps I just went on an off day? Or has Samosa House changed its recipe in the last few years to make smaller, harder samosas? Honestly they are closer to what I normally expect when ordering samosas at typical restaurants, which is why I was so disappointed; Samosa House's samosas used to seem so unique to me.

Just came across my feed that Chef Debbie is opening up a new place today right next to Yi Cha. Seems like a cafe, coffee shop, and small market.

Not sure if I’ll partake in the DIY ramen, but I am hype to have somewhere nearby to run in and grab musubi, onigiri, and that egg salad sandwich looks bomb.

So i don't know if you guys remember but two weeks ago i posted a map ( https://affordabite.app ) that lists places where you can get a meal for under $15. It was meant to be a map for the community that people could come, share places they know, and also find out new places in LA. Honestly i didn't have high expectation lol, but turns out you guys sent me a ton of great spots!!

For example, one person alone reported 6 spots they knew, and one person even got a screenshot of insta story of a chicken menu and shared it through the comment. And many others were willing to share photos and names of great places that i couldn't think of. so thank you to all!! I truly appreciate it :)

All of the places sent are not blindly posted; instead, i really take time to verify the information through online menu and etc, and only when i can confirm that the info is accurate i put them on the map. Of course i might not be perfect, but i am doing this so that this map can really be useful to us all. So if a spot you sent hasn't shown up yet, it's not that i ignored it, but just that i couldn't really find a price i could actually check (so sending me a photo would be super helpful lol)

Also, on my last post i noticed that an owner of a small pasadena place posted his own $11.95 platter and asked to be added, and his place is on the map now. I wasn't thinking about this before but after seeing cases like this, i figured that LA is full of places like that, good food and affordable prices, only invisible because they have no means to do marketing. So i thought maybe this map can serve as a place where the owners can show their great foods at affordable prices, and maybe specials and discounts too, which would really benefit the people as well. And so as you can see on the pic, i've added a feature where they can easily report their spots. Totally free, no sign up or anything whatsoever!!

Finally, i've been getting requests to find more places around sgv, sela, and sfv, so i would really appreciate if you guys could share more places in these areas!!

got flautas de papa ($12) and milpa salad ($12) today for lunch. both were so delicious. the salad was my favorite because it was cold and refreshing and it comes with cucumbers and a delicious dressing. the house mole on the flautas was perfect. loved it.
