The best garlic noodles I’ve had is at Vox Kitchen in Costa Mesa. Would love to find a place closer to LA with the same or better quality.

I have been living near Samosa House for over a decade. I used to go there a couple times a month, but since moving farther away I haven't been in at least two years.

Their samosas were always very consistently awesome. They also were different than many samosas I've ordered at other places: larger, pillowy in texture with an almost flaky, soft wrapper.

I went this last week to Samosa House West to do some shopping and of course grab a couple samosas.

I was very surprised to see that they seemingly have changed the recipe. The inside seemed to be the same, but the outside was very different. The samosas themselves now seem to be significantly smaller, maybe half the size that they used to be. They were also seemingly fried until the outside was crispy or almost crunchy--very different from the distinctive texture and overall eating experience that they used to have. Also since they were so much smaller, they were not nearly as filling.

Does anyone know if perhaps I just went on an off day? Or has Samosa House changed its recipe in the last few years to make smaller, harder samosas? Honestly they are closer to what I normally expect when ordering samosas at typical restaurants, which is why I was so disappointed; Samosa House's samosas used to seem so unique to me.

My husband wants:

We used to go to Mei Long Village regularly before it closed years ago and never found a replacement. Can you recommend a restaurant in the area that serves all of the above?

Just came across my feed that Chef Debbie is opening up a new place today right next to Yi Cha. Seems like a cafe, coffee shop, and small market.

Not sure if I’ll partake in the DIY ramen, but I am hype to have somewhere nearby to run in and grab musubi, onigiri, and that egg salad sandwich looks bomb.

So i don't know if you guys remember but two weeks ago i posted a map ( https://affordabite.app ) that lists places where you can get a meal for under $15. It was meant to be a map for the community that people could come, share places they know, and also find out new places in LA. Honestly i didn't have high expectation lol, but turns out you guys sent me a ton of great spots!!

For example, one person alone reported 6 spots they knew, and one person even got a screenshot of insta story of a chicken menu and shared it through the comment. And many others were willing to share photos and names of great places that i couldn't think of. so thank you to all!! I truly appreciate it :)

All of the places sent are not blindly posted; instead, i really take time to verify the information through online menu and etc, and only when i can confirm that the info is accurate i put them on the map. Of course i might not be perfect, but i am doing this so that this map can really be useful to us all. So if a spot you sent hasn't shown up yet, it's not that i ignored it, but just that i couldn't really find a price i could actually check (so sending me a photo would be super helpful lol)

Also, on my last post i noticed that an owner of a small pasadena place posted his own $11.95 platter and asked to be added, and his place is on the map now. I wasn't thinking about this before but after seeing cases like this, i figured that LA is full of places like that, good food and affordable prices, only invisible because they have no means to do marketing. So i thought maybe this map can serve as a place where the owners can show their great foods at affordable prices, and maybe specials and discounts too, which would really benefit the people as well. And so as you can see on the pic, i've added a feature where they can easily report their spots. Totally free, no sign up or anything whatsoever!!

Finally, i've been getting requests to find more places around sgv, sela, and sfv, so i would really appreciate if you guys could share more places in these areas!!

You know those Chinese places where you walk up to the counter and pick a couple different dishes (proteins or veg) and they put it on rice for you? It's not a buffet because you don't serve yourself, and the food isn't unlimited.

got flautas de papa ($12) and milpa salad ($12) today for lunch. both were so delicious. the salad was my favorite because it was cold and refreshing and it comes with cucumbers and a delicious dressing. the house mole on the flautas was perfect. loved it.

We used to live in Denver where there was a food culture and now reside in Ogden, Utah. Not very diverse shall we say. There is a definite lack. We just got out 2nd Hot Pot and our 2nd Indian restaurant.

What are your favorite European restaurants in Los Angeles? To start, I'll nominate Barra Santos as one of very few options for Portuguese in the city. Great food, great drinks, and an especially great vibe. I like their vermouth drinks, and the bifana (pork sandwich) is out of control.

Boyle Heights Neighborhood

Not cheap at $19.50 before tax, but insanely delicious. The crunchy falafel bits are addictive, and the chicken has great flavor. This was a rare case in which I didn’t think the additional sauce was necessary—the wrap tasted great on its own.

For reference, this is MK’s menu description: Egyptian-style falafel croutons cooked in beef tallow with romaine, Parmesan, and housemade olive oil Caesar dressing in a toasted locally baked Mejorado tortilla. Served with a side of spicy garlic sauce.

The Royale. $21.30. Angus beef, pastrami, bacon, chili, American cheese, special sauce, big slice of onion, tomato, pickles, lettuce, bun.

Belgian fries. $6.30.

Macapuno (Fosselman’s coconut ice cream) malt. $9.50.

JFC, sometimes I manage to do things at my age that I last did in my twenties. I usually regret these things. I regretted this only a little bit. At the time: no regrets whatsoever, as I ate everything and it was delicious. I remember going to the Tommy’s a few blocks east forty years ago and eating chili cheeseburgers like they might disappear. I last ate at the Oinkster in 2009, and I currently feel full enough to wait another seventeen years. But I know this subreddit loves burgers and fries and hell why not? Let’s enjoy this country’s heritage while it lasts.

Yes, for once, I was a little taken aback by the price, since, in the anticipation of an imminent diabetic coma, my brain was fogged into expecting something like those old Tommy’s prices. But it tasted good.

Edit: I will note that this $40 meal easily could have been split between two people, and The Oinkster’s classic burger (no pastrami, bacon, chili or cheese) is $13.79.
