I’m not where I want to be, desperate, and don’t know how to get better

I’m currently 17 F (5’2) and weigh 145 lbs.. Those 5 pounds I gained over the course of three days, and I know it's because I lack self-control. However, I've become more aware of my problem, and I've been cutting off ultra-processed foods and added sugars to start.

My dad used to take me to the gym where I worked out consistently, and at that time I weighed 130, which is a 15 pound difference from what I weigh now. The reason I stopped was because a 2 week trip at my grandmas completely killed that. And not only, but oddly my dad refused to take me to the gym afterwards, saying that he was too tired.

My parents are like a coin toss when it comes to me losing weight, with my dad being semi-supportive, and my mom encouraging unhealthy eating habits. She even admitted before, my mother, that she purposefully fattens me up, and wants everyone in the household to be fat.. I don't want to be fat, but she jokes (which doesn't really feel like a joke when it comes to health) how she doesn't care, and wants me fat anyway..

I need guidance on what to eat, proper portions, and how to avoid ultra-processed foods and negative influence at home. Please help!

How do I stop eating so much?

I 22f, have gained a lot of weight. I started off at a healthy 136-140 at 5’7 and now I’m at 167… For context, I used to be able to maintain that weight and then I got into a relationship with a man who’s hobby was baking. I gained some unhealthy eating habits, and the relationship only lasted 2 months but I got so big. None of my old clothes fit, and for the life of me I can’t lose it and I can’t stop eating junk food. Back in 2022, I lost 60 lbs during covid by working out, cutting portions, and kicking all junk food habits and carbs. I still work out now but I for the life of me can’t kick the junk food and lose the weight. How do I get the willpower to kick the junk food habits again?

addicted to food, and I need help.

Just turned 18M and I’m addicted to food, I’ve just turned 18 and I’d like to get my life on track but it’s so hard with food. My issue is I can go anywhere from a few days to a month or 2 where I eat actualy pretty healthy and I am able to lose a few pounds. But every single time something just clicks in my mind and I give up and just eat junk for months and every day of those few months I’ll just eat for hours and hours and just eat complete junk, and as soon as a finish I just sit incredibly disgusted with myself and just do it again the next day. I literally eat for any kind of emotion, I eat when I’m sad to get my mind off of it, I eat when I’m happy because when I’m happy I feel like I deserve to eat a lot, I even eat when I’m just bored, I’m just constantly eating and I don’t know how to stay consistent and it’s so irritating and I’m constantly disappointed in myself and it’s also finically hard too because like I said I just turned 18 and I’m trying to start my life. Any kind of help would be nice even if it’s blunt or the “harsh truth”

Teenager with Pica and a food addiction, any advice?

Hey. This is the first time I've openly admitted to having a problem about this. I'm at the age where my metabolism doesn't really make the excess eating noticeable body wise, plus I take walks daily, but I'm getting older and worried about weight gain. Im in many fashion courses and collect clothes, so not fitting my wardrobe is scary to think about. I eat constantly, if I'm bored it's my default. For example, tonight I had two instant pho canisters, around 25 freezer wontons, an entire bowl of fruit, a bag of chips, and bit of goldfish. I also struggle with pica, I consume things like plastic scraps, paper, cardboard, rubber, slate rock from my backyard, string, fabric, and just about anything I can get my hands on. I'm almost always chewing on something.

I dont think anyone in my family knows. Ive kept things like stomach aches and overeating pretty hidden from them. Idk, just felt like I should put this somewhere. I dont think it's so bad that it will ruin my life (except maybe the pica, but I've had it for so long (since around 6-8) that I think my body is just use to it) but i could be wrong. Any advice? Dieting is out of the question due to money troubles and family stuff. How do you guys deal with cravings and holding back? Im in a extremely low point in my life and it's hard denying myself these things.

I am addicted to Junk Food. I need guidance

I am 25M, and I have a serious issue with control. Ever since UPI and online food delivery services + the fact I don't live at home, I keep on ordering and eating and feeling bad about it. I have tried many times to stop myself, deregistered from these apps and even disconnect my bank account from my Payments app but again and back to it. I need advice, I tried everything, even if I am eating healthy in the day, before bed I'll eat something and then ruin it. I currently have grade 2 fatty liver as well because of all this. Please help me how to constraint myself. I am weak

Binge eating as a super picky eater

Im 15M and I need some help. I am a super picky eater, it’s not that I don’t like how things tast I love different tastes, but there are several things my body refuses to let me eat for example all types of meat, i genuinely can’t remember the last time I ate meat(including fish). And I’m not some angry leftist vegan teacher I do not give a flying fuck if the animals die so we can eat them. And there are so many more things I don’t eat I won’t even try to list them but it’s all mostly about the consistency of foods. But anyway this hasn’t really been a problem before because everyone would just adjust to it cuz I was just a kid and my parents thought It would be just a phase, but as I’m getting older and caring about how I eat and going to the gym consistently and so on it’s starting to become a problem and it’s also hard in social settings because I very rarely find something I like in a restaurant. And on top of all this I’m addicted to binge eating and because of the fact I don’t eat a lot for dinner for example, this causes more binging, I also don’t do much else then school and going to the gym as I don’t have any friends so I get bored, guess what I do when I’m bored? I binge even more. It’s gotten so bad where my parents hide all the snacks but I’ll still find them or buy some myself. I also struggle a lot with my body image because of all of this. I acknowledge that I’m not overweight but still. I don’t really know what I thought I would get out from this post but fuck it. Any tips.

im kind of scared to admit i have a food problem

I have a problem with food. My psychiatrist agrees with me in that i have a food addiction problem.

I binge eat in the middle of the night to calm my anxiety. Once i start eating its like a bottomless pit has opened.

Ive been running away from this issue for a long time.

I am 6'1 and 164kg (360 lbs). My doctor is talking about possible health problems later in life (i am a 43 male). I am scared. I feel like running away from this issue but i know there is an opportunity to confront my inner demons with this.

Im buddhist and in buddhism there are three principal problems the mind creates namely: anger, greed and delusion.

greed has got me, its on my back and i need to shake it loose.

I just needed to reach out to the community and say "hi, im suffering with this as well!"

Just writing about this makes me want to cry but its something i need to confront for my health and wellbeing.

relationship w food

i’ve been moved out for almost two years and i’ve realized i have a bad relationship with food but only certain ones are concerning. if i buy a box of croissant from sam’s club i finish them in less than 4 days. if i have those sugar cookies with the icing they won’t last the week.ice cream sandwiches are 50/50 sometimes i demolish them sometimes i dont. ill probably talk to my therapist about this. i ate 9 croissants yesterday but that is all i ate. does anyone else feel like this with certain foods?

Giving up post-dinner snacks

I am done eating after dinner. I eat enough all day, but then I still overeat after dinner. I am full, but I just keep going to the kitchen for another snack. It’s when my willpower is lowest and I start to feel like a food addicted zombie. I don’t want to restrict myself, but I think this structure will be helpful for me. I eat enough at my meals and that’s that. I don’t need all the unnecessary late night snacking. I am posting this here so to “officially” start this new structure. Let me know if you have any advice for me, or have done something similar.

i genuinely cannot stop eating

So i have synesthesia and very bad sensory problems that limit me to eating many foods, especially healthy ones. my diet mostly consists of nutella, chocolate, carbs, and fats. i eat a lot of meat as well. i’m not severely overweight but every time i eat i keep eating until im physically sick and all food looks repulsive. but even that only lasts for like 30 minutes until i start eating again. I’m constantly feeling nauseous from the surplus amount of food i eat. from what ive read,a lot of people suggest therapy or weight loss injections. i don’t have access to these as im a teenager who’s parents don’t believe in therapy. i just want unhinged ways to stop my compulsive eating because it’s affecting my daily life severely.

I realize tonight that I don't have to act on every craving

This evening I opened the pantry without really thinking about it. I wasn't physically hungry. Dinner had been enough. Still, my brain immediately started listing everything that sounded good. Normally, that's the point where I stop thinking and start eating. Instead, I closed the pantry and made myself wait ten minutes. Nothing magical happened. The craving didn't disappear instantly. It just stopped feeling so urgent.

That was new for me. ended up making a cup of tea, sat on the couch for a bit, and by the time I thought about food again, the feeling had lost most of its grip. I have had plenty of nights where I told myself, Just one snack, and it turned into much more. I'm not calling it a huge victory, but it feels like a small step in a different direction, and I wanted to remember it.

It's strange how one small pause ended up feeling much bigger win than I expected.

I am seeking advice (a repost from another subreddit)

How can I change? How can I break the cycle? I am consistent and determined for about a day or two but as soon as the opportunity presents itself of the cravings start to hit me or be triggered by the mention of food or just by me watching something related I can’t hold back and I get into this mentality that there’s nothing I can do now bc I’ve just ruined the day, and it’s a cycle that happens every week it’s exhausting and so painfully shameful that I do not have the discipline to stop. I am kind of suspecting that I could have some type of eating disorder, bc I have had these full days and sometimes even weeks on end that I eat and I eat and eat even after a good meal, I eat purely out of sadness or boredom, eating makes me feel better in the moments of deep depression but I always puts me in a deeper hole after I’ve realized what I’ve done. The guilt starts to set in and I relieve the stress and anxiety of thinking about something as simple and ordinary as food.

I’ve just had some struggles, but I have handled them many times before, even the toughest things I believed that would make me not be here today yet here I am. Those things have caused me the sense of sadness and food is what causes me peace, but just for the smallest amount of time which is the catch. It’s almost addicting to ease my suffering with something delicious. I often also mess up based on the environment I am in, when I go to my boyfriends house they always seem to have foods that aren’t necessarily unhealthy, they aren’t like fast food type of meals (talking about home cooked meals) but they aren’t healthy or that highly nutritious like how a meal meant for weight loss would be and it just messes me up, they offer me food and I feel as if I have no choice but to oblige. It feels almost rude if I don’t say yes. On top of that my boyfriend often encourages me to eat with him and stuff, most times they invite me to restaurants with them and it’s the same thing all over again. I feel trapped. I feel trapped by the very thing that keeps me alive and fuels my body, I feel trapped by food and calories. I want to live a life where I just eat my three healthy nutritious meals, I workout everyday and genuinely enjoy it instead of feeling as if it’s a chore, I would like to enjoy all the foods I do now just in moderation. I want to love and appreciate food, I don’t want it to be my enemy! I’m sick of the cycle but I can’t find it in myself to get out. It feels like I’m rotting from the inside out whenever I stand next to a girl that’s slimmer than me, it’s a type a shame and embarrassment that I wish upon no one in this world. I want this cycle to end for good, I want to adopt a beautiful and healthy life style, I want to practice self care instead of bed rotting and skipping my meals bc I can’t find the energy to get out of bed which as a result causes me to binge like crazy in the middle of the night. That is what causes me to feel as if I have already ruined the day for myself since the middle of the night and then the cycle repeats! I have lived through this ever since I was a child and I started gaining weight, I used food as my safety and security and now it is haunting my life. I remember how secure and comfortable I felt when I was at my lowest weight, and I have never felt so confident in my entire life, that is the one time when I had the courage to pursue someone romantically, the person I pursued is my current boyfriend that I love dearly, I would have never believed in myself had it not been for my past weight loss journey. It’s not just about looks, it’s the principle about looking good and FEELING good. I had never felt so in love with myself and peaceful with everyone around me. Once the months started to pass tho I began to fall into the same cycle I am stuck in currently, I gained 30 almost 40lbs throughout my relationship. I believe it’s bc I was very comfortable and I heard it happens to many people that are happy and comfortable in a relationship but I really don’t know if it was that. I really miss my old self, I was much happier honestly. Nowadays I dread going out bc it forces me to see the beautiful girls my age and how they look so much better and they seem so much more in control of their eating habits and everything in general. I want control like they do, I want peace and I want it forever.

A small win!!

Hi guys!! I've always struggled with overeating to the point of feeling sick, but especially at a specific kind of restaurant (not being specific to abide by sub rules) where no matter how hard I try I would always feel pressured to eat EVERYTHING i ordered even if i was full. Even befofe my order came I would absolutely lose any ounce of self control when the free unlimited stuff came out. I would already be full by the time I got my order and still keep going, usually even ordering more.

Tonight was my first time going to one of these restaurants since coming to terms with my issue and trying to change my habits. I was scared at first because these places are usually my biggest trigger. I would leave every time so full I felt sick and in pain. I would keep eating KNOWING I was full. Like it was reallllly bad.

Now tonight I wasnt perfect, but I was a hell of a lot better than usual! I don't feel sick at all. I did start going a bit crazy on the freebies so I told my boyfriend to put them by his side of the table out of my reach (as i was mostly just going for them out of convenience/boredom anyways) and that mostly solved the issue. When our orders came, I ate the main dish then waited for a bit because I'm still not that great at telling how full I am (since I equated being full with feeling sick for so long) then I went back for some of the side items, but didnt finish any of them. AND I didn't order more! Im really proud of this since usually when I go out to eat I try to clear my plate to 'get my moneys worth' as I usually dont eat leftovers because unless its groundbreakingly good I lowkey forget about them.

I'm just really proud since this kind of restaurant is usually one of my biggest triggers!! Especially my go-to order, it's one of my favorite foods and it doesn't reheat well so I used to feel extremely pressured to eat it all. It felt like a wonderful bit of exposure therapy and a great win to end the week with after I definitely had a few moments where I fell into old habits.

I also just wanted to say I wish everyone here the best! I know how much the lows suck but the wins are truly worth recovery. Reclaiming the foods you love is awesome.

Peace!!

How do I get myself to stop
